Those Firefoot link things are rubbish. Anybody with an ounce of sense would press control-alt-delete and end task. I don't see why people bother making them.
Mith's is appropriate. Hardly cheerful, but appropriate. |

Haha! Awesome, Gil!
One of the best lines from the best lines. Ever. The link in Gurthang's sig sounds like a muted television to me. Grrr is it frustrating to hear that for long periods of time and no one around you has a clue whats up! I guess a television is at an even higher pitch though, but look at me I'm babbling. ...It's interesting!

While that is generally true it wan't what I was thinking of in this instance. This will be a rare really serious post from me but I do want to explain. What I really wanted to do was focus on the individuals and what they meant to the people who were bereaved by their deaths. While their deaths, by their cause, became a national tragedy and we all felt sorrow, the true grief was sufffered by the families and friends of those murdered and I think that fact sometimes get lost in events which become matter of public and political concern. However the bombings did have a wider effect and that was the intention of the Coward quote. The bombings were an attack on Londoners & commuters, the nation generally ( the symbolic value of hitting the Capital), and since London is home of the Mother of Parliaments there is a sense in which anyone who values freedom is a Londoner and so a target. The victims were the ones who happened to be there at the time. You don't have to look very closely at the obituaries to see that they were of many races and nationalities. To loosely paraphase a woman whose daughter died, in an interview I heard this morning, it is most important to not let the differences (ie of religion) get in the way of the remembrance of our shared humanity.

Hey, ya’ll do you remember Firefoot’s signature? Something like - Challenge of the week: Plug your nose and hum Row, Row, Row Your Boat.
Well, last week, when I was working at camp, four of us staff members were cleaning up after a special dinner and dance for the girls there, and we were cracking jokes, and so I had them do it. It was so funny! They couldn’t do it. The three of them plugged there nose and there was a looong pause, before Sir Oso gave up and we all started laughing. Thanks, Firefoot, for providing me with a rather humorous joke. -- Folwren

We declared ourselves independent. Having declared that, and I know this sounds crazy, we actually viewed ourselves as such. I know, I know, why declare something you actually think is true? England just thought they were still ruling us after that. And staying on topic, I like Mith's sig. I don't even know what it's from, I just like it.

Maybe it is that "can do" attitude....
but to answer your question ..... it is from a Tennyson poem called Lady Clara Vere deVere but I looked that op becasue "Kind Hearts and Coronets" is one of my favourite films. It is a classic black comedy and Alec Guinness pays 8 roles. Basically it is about a chap who avenges his mother's mistreatment at the hands of her noble family by killing htem off systematically but then gets arrested for a murder he didn't actually commit.... well I did say it was a black comedy!

In the introduction thread all the way up in "Novices and Newcomers", I mentioned something about "Whatever floats your oyster", and now, I'm afraid it's time for me to come clean.
Way back when, when I was still a wee lurker, one of my favorite posters here had that phrase as a sig, and I stole it from (I'm pretty sure it was a 'her') and started using it in my everyday conversation. It gets you some weird looks, that's for sure. So if a newbie's nomination counts, I'm definitely gonna have to go with whoever had that. THANK YOU UNKNOWN POSTER! Oh yeah. I can't forget the only other signature I remember from those days of yore: "Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and they ask me to spend my time on this forum. And by the way, for any of you turning into a penguin, stop it."I assume that that was eleanor_niphredil's; at least, somebody mentioned her and that quote on the first page, so I'm going with that.

If the link in Brinniel's sig is what I think it is (slow connection, don't have time to view it right now), that's a great animation, I remember that from a while back.
And Firefoot - yay! Thank you! That was incredibly fun to do.
