Lindon: The green land to the west of the Blue Mountains; the only region to survive the destruction of Beleriand during the War of Wrath. Gil-galad, last High King of the Noldor, dwelt there during the Second Age.

Rivers. Seven. Lindon was a name of Ossiriand. Thus, seven rivers.

Taur-im-Duinath, the Forest Between Rivers, that lay between the River Gelion of Ossiriand and the River Sirion.

the dark elves

Quote:
a wild land of tangled forest in which no folk went, save here and there a few dark elves wandering; Taur-im-Duinath it was named, the forest between the rivers.

Avari: 'The Unwilling'; those of the Elves who refused the summons of the Valar to dwell in Valinor, and remained in the dark wilds of Middle-earth. Some of the Avari, it is said, were corrupted by Melkor in ancient days to become the progenitors of the race of Orcs.

Inland Sea of Helcar: The inland sea in the east of ancient Middle-earth, on the eastern shores of which lay Cuiviénen. Oromë led the Elves of the Great Journey around the northern end of this sea as they set out for Valinor.

Elu Thingol: Is one who is considered to be Calaquendi. In his early life, millennia before the beginning of the First Age, Thingol journeyed to Valinor with Ingwë and Finwë, and was returned to the Eldar who dwelt at Cuiviënen. From the travellers' reports of the Blessed Realm, many of the Elves marched westward across Middle-earth, seeking the land of the Valar, and the third and greatest host of the Elves, the Teleri, were led by Thingol and his brother Olwë.

As they neared the western coasts of Middle-earth, Thingol came upon Melian the Maia in the wood of Nan Elmoth. Long years passed, and at length he remained with Melian in Beleriand, though many of the Teleri passed West over the Great Sea. With Melian, Thingol founded the woodland realm of Doriath in the central regions of Beleriand, and there ruled the Sindar for many years. Thingol's doom came upon him when Beren brought him a Silmaril from Morgoth's crown as the bride-price of his daughter Lúthien. He summoned Dwarves from the Blue Mountains to set the jewel in the necklace Nauglamír, and the Dwarves became so enamoured of their work that they slew Thingol in his own treasury.

Luthien Tivuviel, Daughter to Elu Thinglol.

Born in the "Midday" of Arda, she was the most beautiful women ever to walk in ME. Love and wife of Beren. The two succeeded in stealing a Silmaril from Morgoth together, but Beren was killed afterwards in a fíght with Sauron´s great werewolf. Luthien wept bitterly, and she came before Mandos and sang for him a song so heavenly, he went to Manwe and asked what to do with Beren. It was Manwe who, with Eru´s blessing, gave Beren away, but under the condition that Luthien chose a mortal life, and would in the end die. She chose to do so, and so she and Beren returned, an, with their son Dior, Thingol´s heir, lived happily ever after in Ossiriand.

Beren Erchamion: The great hero of the First Age who, with the aid of Lúthien Tinúviel and Finrod Felagund, succeeded in gaining a Silmaril from the Iron Crown of Morgoth.

I am closing this lengthy thread down to conserve band-width.

If anyone really feels the need for a Word Association game, please start a new thread.

Edit: There is in fact another Word Association thread already in existence, so I will *bump* it to the top. Please feel free to continue there.
