1. Alternate Universe = AU = Gold?
6. Silver?

Nope.

'Turn' isn't an anagram indicator, possible for the first time ever. But:

Yes to gold, no to silver.

GOLD - No, I don't mean Alternate Universe
2. - Weapons on which graphs turn (these ones are red)
3. - Stonework that pulls you from the mud
4. - Number one deus ex machina (now featuring heavy metal)
5. - I would tell you the answer, but -- just a second.
6. - Air is to corundum as water is to...? (Now, about that crown.)
7. - You! Yes, you! Fire! (& look up into the light)

(Comments in parenthesis relate solely to the theme; they are not useful for the password letter.)

I have an inkling on what the password could be, but I am not sure how to fit the rest of the clues in...

Could 7 be me, that is, ME. Ur for fire and erm...ewn?

Urwen 07-24-2020 07:29 AM

And uranium for 6? (mostly for wedging the answer into the password)

Hah, I like your thinking, but no, the answer isn't 'ME' or 'URWEN'. The anser is you, I said that. :)

Nope. (Though I bet I could concoct a theory about the role of radioactivity in Middle-earth.)

If my reasoning is correct, then 7 has the initial R, so Rana, fire in the sky?

Urwen 07-24-2020 07:55 AM

Or maybe just UR, for fire?

Neither of these, and it doesn't start with R.

But the ansewr is you. :)

Urwen 07-24-2020 08:31 AM

Is the answer YOU/U?

Otherwise, I am drawing a blank there...

Unless you mean my avatar, which is Glindur...hanging from a cliff...?

No, the answer isn't YOU; the reasoning for U is closer (but not right).

Consider what "Fire!" might mean, other than... y'know, fire.

hS

Urwen 07-24-2020 08:47 AM

Well, it could mean 'shoot'...

Urwen 07-24-2020 08:48 AM

6. Iron?

Well, of course! The anser is you, but not 'YOU'. Obvs. ;)

Nope. Have you looked up what corundum is? Not the sort with chromium, the other kind.

The one ruby and sapphire are derived from?

Urwen 07-24-2020 11:29 AM

Oh, and that torch-bearing Orc at Helm's deep comes to mind. Also Fingon, before shooting an arrow.

That's corundum, right enough. Rubies are the ones with chromium in, so ignore those.

Well, there's something very relevant in the latter example. :)

I can't see the connection between sapphires and air. I am not that well-versed in chemistry, so any references to that fly right above my head.

This is no longer a chemistry question; it's straight Tolkien.

Bingo.

(But not Bingo Bolger-Baggins. That's going too far.)

GOLD - No, I don't mean Alternate Universe
2. - Weapons on which graphs turn (these ones are red)
3. - Stonework that pulls you from the mud
4. - Number one deus ex machina (now featuring heavy metal)

I will confess that the source text uses 'diamonds', but I needed the A.

2. Axes, as one Rene would tell you.

Axes it is.

GOLD - No, I don't mean Alternate Universe
AXES - Weapons on which graphs turn (these ones are red)

What does 5 even mean? That you will tell us the answer? Well, go ahead... :D

Urwen 07-24-2020 03:31 PM

Maybe 5 is WAIT.

No, not I WILL tell you the answer - I WOULD tell you the answer. In a second.

It is not. :D This one and #7 work along very similar lines.

Maybe a hint or a small nudge in right direction for both could help...?

Um. That's really difficult. Hang on, let me think.

Okay:

I don’t want to spell out the answer.

Please give one for 7 too... :(

Urwen 07-24-2020 06:10 PM

Wait, maybe Indis. I would = I'd = ID. ID + IN + S = INDIS. So 5 is Indis. Or DIS for same reasons.

Galadriel55 07-24-2020 07:03 PM

Ok, I'll bite and try the pun game for 5. Is the answer "Second"? Or "Axe", a singular form of the second clue?

That's really clever! Possibly cleverer than what I actually did.

Also cleverer than what I actually did.

To be strictly honest, the clue should say 'just the second'.

Urwen 07-25-2020 02:59 PM

Still have got no clue...

Galadriel55 07-25-2020 03:11 PM

Lord Voldemort!...

...ummmm. "WOULD"? or perhaps WOOD?

I knew there was a "mellon" involved somewhere. Just needed the hints to find the right spot. :) That was a good one!

I wonder if 7 is some sort of YEW. Yew bow? I don't recall yew arrows being a thing...

It is YEW (I said it was you!). Tolkien actually just says bows, but... I needed the Y.

3. Makes me wanna do a literal pull - but that leaves me with "themd", the form of masonry used by Petty-Dwarves to build the foundations of their hidden houses. A detailed description can be found in HOMEXIII, The Weird Bits.
