Maikadilwen, your'e right again.

Maikadilwen 05-29-2002 07:14 AM

Heh heh. Let's have some more. Since I can't come up with any myself, I'll just have to guess yours. I'm not good at this sort of thing.

Manwe 05-30-2002 12:42 AM

Well, here's one more...

In the dawn I'm small and bright,
bathing in the spring light,
in the noon I'm as the grass green,
and everywhere I'm seen,
by sunset I continue my run,
and change to color of blood or sun,
when the night comes I turn to brown,
and the fall dead down,
what am I?

NOTE:The day-times is metaphorical.

Joy 05-30-2002 12:47 AM

Manw, is yours "leaves?"

Kettle of fish 05-30-2002 04:30 AM

It's not my turn to post. But...

Three-fourths of a cross and a circle complete,
Two semi-circles with a perpendicular meet.
Then add a triangle that stands on 2 feet,
Two semi-circles and a circle complete.
What am I?

Manwe 05-30-2002 04:55 AM

Yep, Joy, you're right

Joy 05-31-2002 11:37 PM

There's no way I actually got that right Wow!

I have never been good at riddles.

Lostgaeriel 06-05-2002 12:40 AM

Hey Kettle of fish!

Even though it wasn't your turn to ask a riddle yet, I think I've figured it out.

Three-fourths of a cross and a circle complete,
Two semi-circles with a perpendicular meet.
Then add a triangle that stands on 2 feet,
Two semi-circles and a circle complete.

TOBACCO (aka pipeweed!)

Now it's Joy's turn to ask a riddle.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-05-2002 07:03 PM

1. A fish
6. Fear
7. A river

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-05-2002 07:12 PM

Here's a riddle: Teeth I have
but I never bite,
You use them to do something that makes you look just right!

Nevfeniel 06-05-2002 07:19 PM

A comb?

Celebmundoiel 06-06-2002 05:52 AM

Quote:

5.
Never tired, never still.
Moving quietly from hill to hill.
Does not run or even walk,
life it gives and sometimes take,
when its hand is gone you feel the chill it leaves behind.
What is it?
I think its the sun.

Susan Delgado 06-07-2002 11:51 PM

Don't forget mine!

Susan Delgado 06-09-2002 01:32 PM

Yes, "sqirrel" is correct

Susan Delgado 06-12-2002 07:34 PM

I'm very tempting, so it's said.
I have a lovely coat of red,
And my flesh is white beneath.
I smell so sweet,
Taste good to eat,
And help to guard your teeth.

Belin 06-12-2002 10:43 PM

An apple!!!

(Um, wow, how did I wander over to this thread?.... )

Hullo Belin,

Regarding your riddle,

Quote:

(Um, wow, how did I wander over to this thread?.... )
I'd say the answer would be "in yellow stockings" from the looks of you.

Gandalf the Grey

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 12:58 AM

I'd say it's your turn, Belin

Belin 06-13-2002 10:28 AM

Hullo Mithrandir,

Ah! Of course! My thanks to you! After all, "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em," right?

*Stumbles over to the wizard and does him an odd little reverence by way of a belated greeting*

So, a riddle, let's see... maybe I can make one up on the spot. How about:

I walk a high road
As anything you please
I fly but I fall
And where I land, flowers bloom.

Now if I could only make it rhyme...

Is it rain? Or sunlight?

Belin 06-13-2002 10:34 AM

Both very close.... Or, I should say, one of them is half the answer.

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 10:53 AM

Rainclouds?

Belin 06-13-2002 11:15 AM

Rainclouds is right!...

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 12:48 PM

Yay!

More eyes have I than I do need for sight.
I have a cry both sharp and clear.
I have a tail more fit for show than flight.
Admired I am whenever I appear.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-13-2002 08:06 PM

It's a peacock.

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 08:15 PM

Right! and Welcome to the Downs!

Your turn

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-14-2002 09:09 PM

Thanks!!!!

"The beginning of eternity,
the end of time and space
The beginning of every end,
and the end of every place."

It's a common one, I know. BTW, there's a great riddle in "Is Underground" by Joan Aiken, but it's irrelevant outside the book, so I couldn't use that.

Nevtalathiel 06-15-2002 12:24 PM

A hoard of rings am I,
but no fit gift for a bride;
I await a sword's kiss.

I got this from a website, whic had a whole section on J.R.R. Tolkein's riddles (No cheating though!)

Laiedheliel 06-15-2002 12:31 PM

Nev, it's a mail shirt!

Nevtalathiel 06-15-2002 12:42 PM

Correct (but you know that already). Post away.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-15-2002 02:07 PM

Hey, I know that website!

Susan Delgado 06-20-2002 11:41 AM

I will post one.

We capture light, and yet we don't.
We reflect rays of the sun, and yet we don't.
Without us, the world is grey and dull.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-20-2002 06:36 PM

It's colors.

Susan Delgado 06-21-2002 03:27 AM

right

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-22-2002 11:10 AM

I pass down knowledge through the ages,
I have a spine and leaves
I speak with words but not a voice.
