Welcome to the Downs, Who in all Felturn is That?, and enjoy being d.ead.

Muwahahaha! I've been waiting to say that...

When you sit in your living room with nothing to do waiting for your older sister to get off the computer so that you can get to the Downs.

When you see the word 'tinny' and immediately think of the name given you on chat.

Finwe 08-09-2003 03:32 PM

When the only exercise that you get is the Walk to Rivendell challenge.

Tinuviel of Denton 08-09-2003 09:38 PM

When your mother refuses to let you stay home because she says (correctly) that you will spend the entire time on the computer.

When you have decided that you are going to be like one of the Maikas (at least, I think it was one of the ones whose name starts with Maika) and Cuthalion and marry a Downer. (Haven't decided who yet ...)

Luthien_ Tinuviel 08-12-2003 09:41 AM

When you get really bored when the Barrow-Downs were down for construction yesterday (I was so bored!).

I went through several stages. First anger, then despair, the boredom, then near-death.

When you nearly die when the BD's crashes for a day.

Yep, me too. I just can't live without you guys!

Yeah. Same here, except it was more like: Shock, frustration, anger, dispair, boredom, dead. Soon to be ressurected. Woo!

Of course, then my computer decided to play some mean little trick on me and kicked me off the internet EVERY time I went on... But it seems fine now...

-When you suffer from Barrow-Downs withdrawal.
Symptoms: talking excessively about the Downs when not on the computer, quoting random posts, Thinking of posts every 5 minutes, checking back at the Downs every 5 minutes... ect. *Not that I did any of that... *

spirit_detective 08-12-2003 06:55 PM

*falls out of chair laughing* hahahaha! *wipes tears from eyes* hehe...that's was hilarious...

sorry, I don't have any as of now, seeing as I'm kinda new here but...yeah

You know you're obsessed when you tried to go to the Forum at least thirty times, hoping it was already up, even if the notice said it will be closed through 8/11/03

How did you know that?! Are you watching me? You people know me too well. I've done, like...everything here...

-When you're at a sleepover and you totally abandon your real-life friends for your friends at the Downs

-When you tell yourself you won't go on the computer...then you make yourself a sandwich, pour a glass of lemonade, say "Screw it" and go on the computer anyway...

-When you write ideas for posts on your arms because you had no paper at the time...

When you (shh, don't tell) get onto the chat just so that you can talk to BDers without going crazy from BD withdrawal. This was during the forum problems, btw.

When you're at an amusement park and all you can think of is what your RPG characters would think of the rides.

You can name more Downers than you can name people at your school.

Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! So the people on this thread follow me too... You guys seriously need to stop. I'm not that interesting. REally. Spend some more time on the Barrow-Downs or something.

Oh yeah! I was at a sleepover where I stayed up far past everyone else (was it three in the morning? Or was it five? I don't remember.) using your friend's computer, I think mostly on the Barrow-Downs.

Yes... I admit. I always try to practice will power and fail. ("I will not get online until this afternoon. Oh, forget it, I'm getting on NOW!").

Well, considering that it's summer and I've conveniently forgotten about a lot of people at my school, I think I could.

So what if it's summer? I can name more Downers than school people during the school year too.

When you check your email six or seven times a day, just to see if someone's replied to your favorite threads on the Downs.

When you start to think in computer talk(You know *action* or "lol," that sort of thing) and before you discovered the Downs, you spent most of your computer time playing solitaire.

Amarantha_Daisy 08-13-2003 09:18 PM

-When you are sure you will die tomorrow because you won't be home all day, and that means *gasp* No Downs!

*sniffles* For a whole day! How will I live? I'll have to bug my friends by talking about it. Mua ha ha ha... And bring a notebook in case I have an idea for a post, which is sure to happen...

Yep. That's me... I never was on the computer much before, but now I'm never bored! And sometimes I actually say stuff like "gasp" rather than actually doing it...

You visit the airport and begin to daydream about the day you will be meeting a fellow Downer.

or

You intentionally help plan a family vacation in location where several Downers dwell. (I attempted to do this, but failed. )

Yeah, I've started talking in asterisks, like when the 'downs wasn't working, I told my friend, and I said "*sniffles*" (And I think with smilies. )

elfearz1 08-16-2003 05:35 PM

*looks around nervously* Ok, I know you guys are watching me! I do a lot of those things

guilty, guilty!

Also, I think real life really needs the BD's smilies. It's hard to communicate without them.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 08-16-2003 09:16 PM

Well, the other day I was at Borders looking at their Tolkien selection. There was a woman there who was also looking at Tolkien books, and I thought "Could that be someone from the Downs?"

elfearz1 08-17-2003 03:22 PM

Luthien_Tinuviel:I do that all the time.

...In all your oscar acceptance speeches you write, you mention the downs. (I don't do that... I swear...Ok, you dragged it out of me, I *do* do that )

When you proudly show this site to distant relatives and scare them. Then you shout at them for getting the website name wrong.
When you add somebody to MSN Instant Massenger. It's the wrong person. You recomend the Downs to them and leave.
Guilty, guilty.

Guilty as charged I suppose it counts as addiction to spend several hours almost every week where your mum works, because they've got broadband, so you can stay on the Downs as long as you like?

And printing out copies of the already mentioned Barrow-Quotes file, giving them to your friends who like Tolkien and saying "See? This is a great place, join!"

You've just started at a new school where you don't know anyone, and wish you'd had some friends there with you, half of the people you think of are Barrow-Downers.

You get more upset if you say something stupid here than in real life, and here you can just delete the post!

Printing out pics of Barrow-Downers and putting quotes from their posts under makes for good decorations by the way

One Axe to Rule them All 08-19-2003 08:57 AM

You tried every twelve, ten, and five step program out there to simply cut back on your time spent on the downs.

the guy who be short 08-20-2003 06:01 AM

When getting 4 PM's for the first time ever is the most exciting thing that happened to you all day. And you had a very exciting day.

Tinuviel of Denton 08-20-2003 05:09 PM

When the majority of the people on your MSN messenger list are Downies.

When you go to the library, ostensibly to find a book for school, and find yourself on the Downs before you quite know what happened.

elfearz1 08-24-2003 08:33 PM

the first place you go when you're upset is the downs... (this should go under you know your obsessed when... to )

the guy who be short 08-25-2003 09:10 AM

You creep here when nobody is home.

the guy who be short 08-25-2003 10:03 AM

You see something in the newspaper about "One Account" and crack up.

Hilde Bracegirdle 08-26-2003 07:08 AM

You know your addicted when your brother has to teach your child to refer to the Barrow Downs as your "scholarly interest" instead of your "obsession".

elfearz1 08-26-2003 04:13 PM

when you are looking for a site on your computors history and you search by most visited sites and the barrow downs is on their 10 different times hehe.

Tinuviel of Denton 08-26-2003 05:41 PM

Only ten?

When you write your RPG posts in your English class. (Hey, it's writing, isn't it?)

When your siblings refuse to let you get on the computer before them because you'll get on the Downs and they won't ever get on.

the guy who be short 08-27-2003 06:53 AM

When you have nightmares about the BW shutting your account. When I woke up, I thanked God it was only a dream. I'm sure it's the worst nightmare I've ever had.

Elennar Starfire 08-27-2003 05:36 PM

When your typing speed improves by 10 WPM over the summer, due to all the typing you do on the 'downs.

When you start as late as I have, its quite a lot of exercise! It feels more like a race than exercise...I've got that real pursued feeling, like the Ringwraiths will get me if I don't walk at least 4 miles today!

Cheers,
Lyta

I've had a dream like that before, too. Actually, I posted about that nightmare early in this thread.

Here's part of the post:

Quote:

I dreamt that the BW deleted my account. Strange enough, the next day I found out that inactive accounts were being deleted. Luckily, my nightmare did not follow through because my account is way too active to be deleted.
