People keep telling me I have a strange accent, but I've lived in NZ all my life.

So my voice is just weird, I guess. I don't know its distinguishing characteristics, either....

Cheers,

~ Elentari II

P.S. I'm still in NZ. Even in the same city I was born in....

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-10-2004 07:22 AM

I simply loooooooove the way people fail to notice their own accents, even when exposed to others. A bunch of my friends went to NYC a few months back, and they came back talking about people's accents in the city. My favorite great-aunt has a New Hampshire accent. My favorite uncle lives near Olympia, WA... yep. Accent. And yet, people in my general vicinity rarely realize that we all have an accent too. It's barely perceptable to anyone of the area, but if you go anywhere else in the world (or just speak to someone else), it's obvious. My "local accent" is that of speaking rather quickly and leaving the occasional letter off the end of words. There are very few people around here that actually pronounce the letter 't' if it doesn't come at the beginning of the word. A double 't' in the middle of a word becomes closer to a 'd'. The sound of 't' becomes more of a breath in the back of your throat. And yet I love my accent. That's just the way we speak here. :D

But I suppose, as a King (if you've ever read the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, you'll understand why I have no issues with this title) of the World Barrowdowner, I suppose I could simply pass a law or something, saying that everyone must be fully aware (and appreciative) of their accents. Mwahahahahaha.

Time to get back to my morning quest: that of actually waking up.

Fea

Heh...who wants to be a Queen? Lousy job... (I love those books!)

My accent is...a strange mixture...since I like to speak in accents not my original, I've become used to them, and my normal speech has changed somewhat. But lets see...Rs are very hard, and As are somewhat nasal...um...I do the T to D thing too...that's all I can think of now...stupid brain...

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-10-2004 11:21 AM

Hmmm, fangirls....

Elennar Starfire 08-10-2004 11:25 AM

And just what is that supposed to mean, Eomer?

Gil-Galad 08-10-2004 11:38 AM

Congratulations! You are- A Cheeky British Barrowdowner!

You're better than everyone on the entire forum, and you know it. I hate you. Will you marry me?

strange how i'm not even british though most people think i am...

Elennar Starfire 08-10-2004 11:47 AM

I'm not British either, but I am cheeky!

If you have a Scottish accent, Eomer, I'll probably join the ranks of those stalking you. For some reason I can't resist Scottish or Irish accents...

It certainly looks like it Eomer. Myself, I can fake a great British one to the point that people from the UK think I am also.

Oh, and I fall for the Scottish accents as well. :D

*Saraphim joins the Uber-Dork sub-clan of Eomer Stalkers*

Elennar Starfire 08-10-2004 07:09 PM

Heehee! I have argyle socks! :D Two pairs!

Esgallhugwen 08-13-2004 01:00 PM

Alas I have no argyle socks.
And I too shall join the ranks of Eomer Stalker's for I too cannot resist Scottish, Irish, or Australian accents.

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-13-2004 04:01 PM

I wonder if any other Downer is blessed with as many stalkers as I? :D

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-13-2004 04:28 PM

Not likely, Eomer, not likely. I don't know if you should feel honored or terrified. ;)

Fea

Gil-Galad 08-13-2004 08:13 PM

Maybe even both?

Esgallhugwen 08-13-2004 10:55 PM

I'd have to say both, for instance:

Exibit A what you should feel honoured about) Lots of people like you and therefore want to follow you around

Exibit B what you should be terrified about) Lots of people like you and therfore want to follow you around

Saraphim 08-13-2004 11:37 PM

Did you know that it is near impossible to find decent argyle socks in Las Vegas? I had to settle with brown argyle stockings. They just aren't the same, but at least I can show my Uber-Dork spirit.

Oh, and I nearly forgot. :D

*Swoons over Eomer's accent*
Do I smell a restraining order?

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-14-2004 11:23 AM

No swooning from this girl, Eomer. I follow you specifically for your sense of humor. But shouldn't our Eomer-stalking go in the Are You A Stalker? thread? ;)

Fea

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-14-2004 02:01 PM

Yes. Because then I can start to enjoy this thread again and be fully aware of the terror which lurks in Heren's thread.

Who am I kidding? Oh, and Esgal, when you put it like that, there's only one option to take. Run away.

Esgallhugwen 08-14-2004 02:13 PM

You may run but we will follow! mwahahahaa
Once a Stalker picks up a scent it never relents in the chase!

Morsul the Dark 08-14-2004 02:56 PM

Eomer-what are they?

Argaorn- They were people once but the BarrowWight gave them the Downs forever cursing them they are the stalkers Parmahil neither living nor dead, they will never stop following you...

Ok that sounded WAY better in my head

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-15-2004 11:21 AM

That gives me the chills M.

Sirithheruwen 08-15-2004 06:19 PM

Esga's right: once stalked, always stalked. (Confusticate and bebother the lack of devil smilies!)

Esgallhugwen 08-17-2004 01:46 PM

*rubs hands together evilly*
That is a very good description Morsul, beware of the Stalkers, for we see you but you cannot see us!
That should be our motto Sirithheruwen Once Stalked, Always Stalked.

Elennar Starfire 08-17-2004 07:50 PM

I'd say, that unless Orlando Bloom is secretly a BDer, you're probably the BDer with the most fangirls. Doesn't that make ye feel special?

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-18-2004 05:08 AM

Orlando Bloom is just about the only actor good looking enough to play me. :D

But seriously, I feel very touched.

Esgallhugwen 08-18-2004 12:53 PM

Awww, if I wasn't one of your Stalkers I'd hug you but alas I must stay in the shadows. *two glistening eyes peer out from behind a bush*

Elennar Starfire 08-19-2004 08:07 PM

I'll hug you, then retreat quickly back to the shadows...*does so*

Saraphim 08-20-2004 12:59 AM

WOW! Almost this whole page is off topic! Isn't that some sort of record? Not that I'm complaining....:D

Quote:

Somehow, I don't think Orli would sound right with a scottish accent.

By the way, I won't hug you, I'll just come at you out of nowhere, push up my glasses, and nervously ask you to sign my Karl Urban poster. Then you'll make me laugh until I snort, and I'll retreat mysteriously back into the shadows to make all of your other Uber-Dork stalkers drool over your autograph.

Once Stalked, Always Stalked.:D

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-20-2004 08:58 AM

Oh...my...goodness.

We really need some new people to take Lush's test! Come on, there's new people joining every day, don't they want to see what type of Barrowdowner they are? Well? Don't they?

I guess not. On a side note, there hasn't been a new quiz for a while. Aren't there usually new quizzes popping up every so often?

On another side note, I do not own a digital camera.

And in a desperate attempt to stay on topic, how many other Cheeky Brits actually listen to The Beatles like Lush supposes? I certainly do!

*collapses into fits of laughter*

Eomer has a point, we ought to stay on topic. I can't be bothered right now, but next time I visit the Downs I'll delete all my off-topic posts on this thread. Too tired right now.

How many people discovered that they were Pretentious Prats? Or Uber Dorks? Or both together? Why are we not fighting for these titles?

On second thoughts, I don't know why I bothered asking that last question.....

~ Elentari II

P.S. Changed my mind, I'm deleting them now. Who's not entirely sure what they are?

Sirithheruwen 08-26-2004 12:17 PM

Argyle...

For those female fans of argyle.

Elennar Starfire 08-26-2004 07:12 PM

I think...I might...be scared...or I might buy that...

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-27-2004 09:08 AM

I wish I was a girl.....

Seriously though, very nice Sirith. The lengths you go to keep us up-to-date eh? ;)

Sirithheruwen 08-27-2004 09:45 AM

I just really didn't want to see that go to waste. And I wanted to see your reactions. :p

New uber-dork

*grins shyly ar Eomer's scottish accent...* LOL What *IS* it about scottish accents? I'm a little shy to be a stalker, though, hehe.

Anyway, Eomer, ask and ye shall recieve...a new person to take the test. I'm not exactly new here, but I haven't come across this thread before.
I am an uber-dork barrowdowner. I'm not quite sure that's right: I have only once ever gotten the right answer in the quiz room, and even then didn't post it because I didn't think I could come up with a good enough question! I love reading LOTR, but I'm far from an expert, especially compared to all you others! I took the quiz multiple times, and each time came out with that same answer. I guess my uber-dork self is just taking some time to grow, hehe. :D

Morsul the Dark 08-28-2004 11:50 PM

Hey you dont need to know the answer to play the quizes(look at my posts im living proof of it :D )

Lush 08-29-2004 02:27 PM

Guys,

Listen to Bekah and Eomer. The quiz is kind of old and irrelevant by now, yeah, but must it all end in infamy?

Please make Auntie Lush happy and be good from now. I'm no moderator, so I can't really boss you around (darn it), but I did work semi-hard on that quiz, so, you know...

Furthermore, even if you do technically "stay on topic" but have nothing actual to contribute to the thread, then there's no real point in posting. Unless you're posting to say how great I am.

Hardy har har.

P.S. I don't know if Squatter likes the Beatles, but he's got a taste for Metallica. And Cypress Hill. And if you want to know more, you can harrass him through PM.

Son of Númenor 08-29-2004 02:32 PM

You're so great, Lush! What a quiz! :D

I'm sorry, Auntie Lush, I'll be good. Your quiz was fantabulous, to say the least. The only quiz I ever linked to was one I found sheerly through accident, and that was met with nearly as much popularity. Fea hastily tries to renew interest in her old thread Of LotR Characters and Their Personality Flaws.

Reeeeeeally. After trying and likely failing to renew interest in an old thread, Fea sniffs out another Metallica fan. Ooh boy. :D

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-30-2004 08:57 AM

I must say I have been waiting for Lush to return to this thread and lecture some people. I am shocked, however, to discover that it wasn't me being lectured! It is blatantly obvious that I have been the one keeping the thread alive by coercing the other Downers to say nice things about me simply to stroke my ego. Oh, the underhanded methods of this boy. *insert devil smiley a la Saraphim (again). My apologies Lush, I have acted disgracefully.

But to right a wrong (because Fea seems anxious about it) I take back the earlier statement - even though it was only in jest. But we all have to admit, there are gender-based advantages either way. Sirith's amazing discovery is but one of them.

Esgallhugwen 08-30-2004 12:33 PM

Mayhaps if it was in a different colour, for a girl I'm not too fond of the colour pink, its too girly, maybe blue or green and darker, i'm not one to wear bright or loud colours. But anyway,

Oh but Eomer your ego is all cute fuzzy and cuddly, who wouldn't want to give it a pet now and then? Although it does drool alot....
