Spoil could be rot-decay-mould, ruin-wreck-damage, or (if Pervinca is a big fan of Time Team) something like earth, dirt, or even slag (heap, as in blast furnace). Or of course 'soil', but that seems a bit too on the nose.

Beam could be a noun or a verb, and could be light or wood. I think it's used in ships, too.

I know what #1 is now, and I know your secret weakness too, Pervinca. Just as I am fond of Maeglin, you are fond of Maglor (GLOW-W inside of MAR). And we both used our secret weaknesses quite a lot in our puzzles recently.

Well, Maglor is probably my favourite of Feanor's sons, and I sympathise with all of them regarding that stupid oath their father pretty much forced on them. But it's really a coincidence that he has ended up in *so* many of my puzzles.
