Ouch.

You know you're terribly addicted when you post a Crazy Caption on the Deathday thread. :o :D

Go figure how that happened.

Computer passwords for work

When the easiest to remember alpha-numeric combinations for passwords are barrow-downers screen names? When you need an eight letter password and your RPG spouse's name works perfectly....

Yes I know.. I need to get out more.....

Kath 01-28-2006 09:27 AM

When you're writing an RPG post in the middle of a very boring lesson, and then realise that you've written your characters name on the piece of work you've just handed in instead of your own.

Getting it back was interesting!

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-29-2006 04:39 AM

A sign you're addicted to . . . something . . .

You still remember--even use--the very first password BD gave you.

Yeah, that random six-letter thing, it's permanently engraved in my head. :smokin:

Hookbill the Goomba 01-29-2006 07:08 AM

When you see a picture of anyone looking surprised or horrified, you instantly say that they have just seen Gandalf the grey uncloaked.

I've had some very strange looks.

Or

At school / collage, you attach small wheels to a paper mashie volcano someone in another class has made and label it 'Mount Zoom'. Yes, I did do it! :D

Or indeed:

Whenever asked to write your occupation, you nearly write 'Downer'. :p Not guilty... yet.

Lhunardawen 01-30-2006 12:55 AM

When your Chem lab instructor asked you to come up with a code name for your unknown analysis, you choose Aluměne Umfuěl - partly because you just realized the wittiness of the name the previous night (thanks to your brother), but for a larger part because you want to hear your lab instructor fumble as he tries to pronounce the name. *insert evil smilie here* :D

Fea, if you ever read this, I want you to know that you are one of the most brilliant people I had the honor to know. ;)

Glirdan 01-30-2006 10:07 PM

When you start thinking twenty four/sevem about who the Wolves will decide to attack at Night and if they'll get lucky and get a Gifted. Oh, and lets not forget when you start talking out loud to yourself about the games. I admit it, I'm obsessed. :o

Lhunardawen 02-06-2006 03:21 AM

I think this is not so much what an "addict" does...maybe more like masochist.

Out of sheer boredom, you search for your oldest posts that the Search function can come up with, and spend a lot of time cringing at the posts of your newly-deceased self.

Hasn't this been mentioned before?

elfearz1 02-07-2006 09:11 PM

You rush to downs as soon as you recieve a message that there was a reply to a thread you're subscribed to. :D

elronds_daughter 02-08-2006 07:52 AM

You lose sleep on account of the latest game of Werewolf....did you vote to lynch the wrong person!?!??

Thinlómien 02-14-2006 12:19 PM

Hanging the whole day after school in the 'downs with a few pauses of max.15 minutes. That's 7 hours and 20 minutes by now...

Completely mad. ;)

the guy who be short 02-20-2006 12:19 PM

You have an MSN group on Messenger called "Downers."

Guilty. :D
Adding to that: At least 40% of your contacts are in that group. ;)

Valier 02-20-2006 02:08 PM

When your partner tells you to be quiet, he's heard enough about the Downs!:D

Hookbill the Goomba 02-21-2006 03:19 AM

You actually plan for 'Downs Time' in your daily routine.

Guilty as charged. My everyday to-do list always has something Downs-related in it.

Rune Son of Bjarne 02-23-2006 03:06 PM

You travel half way around the world to be in one of the most magnificent citys ever, you are only 500 meters away from beaches and all kinds of fun, yet you still have to check what is going on at the downs once in a while.

Eonwe 02-25-2006 04:03 PM

You fully intend to join the next werewolf game, even though you can calculate an actaully percent your grade will drop as a result. ;)

Celuien 02-25-2006 04:08 PM

You've been awake for about 30 hours, you're dead tired and have reading to do, and you're still clicking the refresh button on the forums index.

You work on posts by saving them in your email so that so you can work on them while away from home.

You once typed a fairly long RPG post on your tiny PDA screen while you were supposed to be listening to a lecture. Granted, it was a very borrrrring lecture that I had absolutely no interest in hearing and that had no educational value for me, but still... :)

Cailín 02-28-2006 04:15 PM

1) When you have a folder on your computer named 'Werewolves'.

2) When you jump up every time you hear someone say anything vaguely Tolkien-related.

3) When you try to think of a way to subtly incorporate in a post that you have finished the Silmarillion, just so you will always remember the exact date.

4) When you know the screen-names of all members on the first and second page by heart, including their personal titles - if they have one. (Though this is not as obsessive as it may sound - I have an extremely good memory when it comes to names. No really!).

5) When, on a rather uneventful night, you start reading ancient threads to know what all the 'oldies' are always referring to. I must say, it was a revelation. It's quite unbelievable to see how many Downers, now greatly esteemed for their eloquence, used to type things as lol and u every once in a while (I shan't name names). And ha - he might hate me forever for this - but the guy who be short was so cute!

6) When you start writing posts like these, just to have something to say even though you are too weary to make much sense.

7) When a 'Downers MSN group' and 'Downs Time' sound strangely appealing.

I'm sure there are more points to come some other day. :o

--

P.S. I know, I know. I cringe when I read some of my earlier posts as well.

P.P.S. I am clearly guilty of all the above, with the possible exception of the first since I just saw it isn't actually called werewolves, but plain wolves.

P.P.P.S.

Add those as 8 & 9.

Glad to hear I'm not alone. I swear, it scares me how I remember names and personal titles...

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-01-2006 04:31 AM

Addicted?

When you have Downers on your phonebook.

Typing "u" and "lol" make me cute? Bewildering, but a distinct lack of hatred. ;) I also remember having something of an aversion to capital letters.

You know you're obsessed when you have recurring BDs dreams. Well, the dreams don't recur, but the BDs theme does.

Hookbill the Goomba 03-01-2006 12:30 PM

When you spend a lot of your time messing with Lord of the Rings related pictures and editing them for amusement with he sole purpose of posting them on the Downs.

OR

Whenever you see snoopy on the Television you feel inclined to say "Wow, Eomer!"

You're working on your online schoolwork, when suddenly you realize something wonderful you could do for your RPG over on the Downs!!

You're supposed to be studying for said online class' midterm tomorrow, and somehow you magically find yourself on the Downs, talking about how you're supposed to be studying for an online class... waaaaaait...

Out of interest Cailín, how do you arrange your member list? By last visit, number of posts or reputation? What about the rest of you?

Glowing Stone 03-01-2006 05:00 PM

Okay, I got some!

You are here for more than four hours...

Your mom or husband or whoever you have always assummes where you are on the internet.

They have gone accustomed to you talking about certain people on here...

If you go somewhere else, ( huh, me??? ) then you hear the explitave," The world is coming to an end!!!." and very oh-so- tentavily correct them that "Arda is coming to an end."

People who see what your Christmas tree looks like politely offer to buy you another one.

The only friends you now have know about this site.

This is your first post on the 'Downs...

You're hooked already?

I'm impressed. It took me eight months of membership to achieve that level of 'Downs 'Ddiction.

Which, I'm sure, coincided with your first Werewolf game.

Did it not?

It helped.

Actually, to be perfectly honest, it wasn't the first Werewolf game I played that got me addicted, but the second one... which was actually my worst showing thus far!

I arrange it by reputation… Guess it's the most practical because it instantly show the most active Downers all together.

Actually, it was more the things you were trying to say beneath all the chat speak. ;)

Thinlómien 03-10-2006 07:04 AM

...when you start enjoying maths lessons.

Lhunardawen 03-12-2006 02:17 AM

You will consider it one of your life's most satisfying moments when you see Anguirel include a smilie in one of his posts. Hint, hint. ;)

Can't believe this! When and where?

Lhunardawen 03-14-2006 01:59 AM

It hasn't happened yet; hence, the "hint, hint." ;)

Thinlómien 03-14-2006 05:01 AM

So I was too utopistic, I see.
