I am sure you are correct, Beren87, since anything else would be plain SCARY.... Bruce? You agree?
Bruce MacCulloch

No.
Beren87

" I do not know, but it seems clear to me that this is what happened. Their captain remained in secret away south of Bree, while two rode ahead through the village, and four more invaded the Shire.

You're right. Sorry, I was thinking of a question on another thread when I answered you. Your turn, Beren.
Beren87
02-10-2003, 10:20 PM
Ah, no problem at all good sir.
'Into the gateway!'
Dondagnirion
02-11-2003, 10:31 AM
That would be Gandalf out loud to the nine walkers as the watcher in the water attacked them at the gate of Moria.
Beren87
02-11-2003, 03:32 PM
That's it! Your turn.
Dondagnirion

Thankee Beren87,
"No, he will not laugh."
Easy one again, but my friend is borrowing my books and its all I can quote off of the top of my head without a possibility of mis-qouting. Good Luck.

May I join the guessing-team? smilies/smile.gif
It's Legolas to Gandalf in Fangorn, when he tells them they have to go to Edoras. ("The white rider")

You are correct about Legolas being the speaker. But as for who he says it to...um, I can´t remember! *laughs*
Anyway, we´ll say you are correct, so please proceed! smilies/biggrin.gif

"How shall a man judge what to do in such times?"

Ah, good quote!
It was Eomer to Aragorn about the world changing and his indecision about what to do with the three walkers.
Guinevere
03-04-2003, 04:53 AM
Correct, Beren. smilies/smile.gif Your turn!

There it is! Who said it to whom?
Guinevere
03-05-2003, 03:31 AM
It was Eowyn who said this to Faramir, standing on the walls of Minas Tirith and looking eastwards.

The grass is deep and springy
Guinevere
03-09-2003, 03:53 AM
Hm, that one took me quite a lot of searching in the book, but finally I found it! smilies/smile.gif
It is Legolas who says this to Gimli, when they look for bootprints of the old man they have seen in the night.
" Maybe", said the elf "but a heavy boot might leave no print here: the grass is deep and springy"
eleanor_niphredil

Here's a quote from the fotr movie : "It's moving fast...against the wind" Who said that? smilies/wink.gif
Guinevere
06-02-2003, 12:45 PM
huh?! Legolas would certainly never say "That I ain't" !!!
It's only Sam (and the Gaffer) that use such language!
Though I can't say exactly where this quote is in the book, I'd say Narduewen was right.
Elentarimir
06-02-2003, 01:32 PM
Yeah, it has to be Sam, he is the only one to call Frodo "Mr. Frodo". (Legolas wouldn't be caught dead saying the word "ain't"!)
gilraën
06-02-2003, 02:14 PM
I don't remember ever reading anything remotely like that in Lord of the Rings. I'd like to see the full and proper quote to convince me.

Narduewen
06-04-2003, 04:26 PM
Thank you Edie! Hopefully you can give gilraën the information of where it is, because I don't know. Anyway, for the next quote.
"It will have to be paid for."

I believe it was an anonymous 'they' who said it...it may be on the first page if I'm not mistaken.

Correct alaklondewen! Your turn.

Em, I don't know that one, but I have accidentally come across the quote by Edie that you were curious about, Gilraën:
It's in the scouring of the Shire, when Farmer Cotton sees Sam for the first time again: "We feared you were dead." "That I ain't" said Sam "Nor Mr.Frodo. He's here and his friends."

Thanks Guinevere. smilies/smile.gif

06-07-2003, 02:46 AM
Theoric this is the current, unanswered quote, and as the title of the thread suggests, it is from LotR. If you guess it right you can post your own, but in this thread it must be LotR.
and all shall be ended.

The Saucepan Man

I´m confused....doesn´t the 10 days rule count in here too??
My interpretation of the 10 day rule is that when someone's answer is confirmed they have 10 days within which to ask the next one. Otherwise, it's a bit unfair on the person giving the answer if that answer is not confirmed until the end of the 10 day period. So, if mordor136 has not asked a question by 2 July, you may continue, Manardiel. smilies/smile.gif
I will clarify this in the Quiz Room rules.
Guinevere
07-06-2003, 04:02 AM
Well, 10 days have passed now since the confirmation of Mordor136's answer!
Therefore I assume that I may proceed now with answering Manardariel's quote: I am ready
That was Frodo to Sam in Rivendell ("Many meetings") when he had just gotten up and Sam came to show him around in Elrond's house.
Manardariel
07-11-2003, 01:04 PM

Meaning we're not, I take you.
Eressië Ailin
07-18-2003, 01:12 AM
Oh! I love that quote! Sam to Faramir and his men~
`Elves? ' said a third, doubtfully.
`Nay! Not Elves,' said the fourth, the tallest, and as it appeared the chief among them. `Elves do not walk in Ithilien in these days. And Elves are wondrous fair to look upon, or so 'tis said.'
'Meaning we're not, I take you,' said Sam. `Thank you kindly.'
Typical Sam!

Hm, I think that is someone at the last debate. Is it Imrahil?
Lostgaeriel
09-27-2003, 11:04 PM
No, it's Éomer in The Last Debate.
'But how is this? asked Éomer. 'All is vain, you say, if he has the Ring. Why should he think it not vain to assail us, if we have it?'

Yes, Mariska Greenleaf, you are correct. [That was quick!]
For those who aren't sure where this quote comes from, here's some context:
... If he screws himself up to go, he'll want to go alone. Mark my words! We're going to have trouble when he comes back. For he'll screw himself up all right, as sure as his name's Baggins.'
'I believe you speak more wisely than any of us, Sam,' said Aragorn. 'And what shall we do, if you prove right?'
'Stop him! don't let him go!' cried Pippin.
