Gandalf called Barliman an *** when Barliman said he had tried to keep Frodo away from Strider.
Frodo called Sam an *** when Sam tried to clime down the cliff in the Emyn Muil.

Sam said "What did I tell you? Something's happening!" to Frodo when they gazed westward and saw and heard the cry of one of the Nazgûl flying back towards the Dark Tower announcing the fall of the Lord of the Ringwraiths. (Of course they didn't know what had happened, but Sam knew from Gorbag & Shagrat's argument that the war wasn't going well for Sauron.)

Lostgaeriel
12-19-2001, 03:29 AM
Oooh...that was tricky. I thought at first it was about Aragorn, but then I remembered Théoden. Aragorn said this to Éowyn about Théoden to reassure her as they prepared to go to Isengard. (Though they had to make a stand in Helm's Deep first.) (And of course, Éowyn wasn't really as concerned about Théoden not returning as she was about Aragorn. Poor girl - the guy just had too much charisma. SIGH)

That would be Gandalf about the Palantir being his downfall talking about "how it seemed clear to him" that he made contact with Sauron when using it and that caused his downfall, e.t.c.
