Alcarillo
08-11-2005, 06:42 PM
There's Fingolfin, Fingon, Turgon, and Gil-Galad. There were four who lived in Middle-earth.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-11-2005, 06:54 PM
Wrong! It's a trick question! :p

Alcarillo
08-11-2005, 06:58 PM
Beleriand is in Middle-earth. Right? Or do you mean those who lived their whole lives in Middle-earth and weren't born elsewhere?

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-11-2005, 07:07 PM
As long as he lived in Middle-earth, and as long as he became a High-King (of the Noldor), yeah. So pretty much that. ;)

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-15-2005, 07:37 PM
Anybody at all? I only need the one last name now.

Joy
08-15-2005, 08:33 PM
I would say Feanor.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-15-2005, 08:38 PM
Two more names. Fëanor is correct, but I'm looking for another High-King of the Noldor who lived in Middle-earth.

(He didn't necessarily have to have been a king while he was living there. ;) )

Alcarillo
08-15-2005, 08:52 PM
Finwe!

Joy
08-15-2005, 08:53 PM
Finwë - he awoke in ME and then in Valinor became High-King. So tecnically, he was in ME, though not king at that time.

Dang!! I would have had this one if dad hadn't called me to the TV :o :o

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-15-2005, 08:58 PM
Sorry, Ms. Joy. Alcarillo got it first.

Your thread. And welcome back to the Quiz Room. Werewolves eating too much of your time? :D (I crack me up.)

Oh, brother.

Alcarillo
08-15-2005, 09:02 PM
And not after I was killed the second night. :(

Name at least five Elves whose names end in -wë.

Joy
08-15-2005, 09:07 PM
Finwë, Elwë, Olwë, Voronwë, Lenwë

Alcarillo
08-15-2005, 09:08 PM
Yep. Your turn. :)

Joy
08-15-2005, 09:54 PM
And I forgot Aranwë :)

Who was considered "The Father of Speech" by Men?

NightKnight
08-16-2005, 08:33 AM
Taking a wild shot would be Nóm the Wise, AKA Finrod Felagund.

Joy
08-16-2005, 12:26 PM
Sorry, close though. This Elf was one that awoke at Cuivienien.

Alcarillo
08-16-2005, 11:06 PM
Ingwë, perhaps?

Joy
08-16-2005, 11:41 PM
Again, no. :(

Alcarillo
08-16-2005, 11:43 PM
Finwë?

Joy
08-17-2005, 12:04 AM
I didn't plan on it being this tough. He is a Telerien Elf. That will narrow it down some.

Alcarillo
08-17-2005, 12:20 AM
After an extensive online search I have discovered one called Nuin. Is he the one?

Joy
08-17-2005, 12:25 AM
Yep, he's the one :) I really didn't expect that to be this hard. My bad!

Alcarillo
08-17-2005, 12:32 AM
What do you expect when you choose an elf out of HoME? ;)

Whose ship was also called the Gil-Estel?

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-17-2005, 12:35 AM
Vingilot?

Alcarillo
08-17-2005, 12:38 AM
Yep. Your turn once more.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-17-2005, 12:50 AM
So, name two Sindar who participated in the Fifth Battle of Beleriand.

NightKnight
08-17-2005, 01:51 PM
Mablung and Beleg.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-17-2005, 08:32 PM
Your thread. :)

NightKnight
08-18-2005, 02:42 PM
Thanks.

What's the name of Fingolfin's sword?

Alcarillo
08-18-2005, 02:44 PM
Ringil was Fingolfin's sword.

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-04-2005, 11:30 PM
Hey, NK, you forgot this one!

NightKnight
09-05-2005, 01:34 PM
You're right, Nilp. *Smacks self with trout*

Yes Alcarillo, you are perfectly right. Ask on!

Alcarillo
09-05-2005, 01:37 PM
Name at least six great-grandchildren of Finwe.

NightKnight
09-05-2005, 01:39 PM
Easy.

Celebrimbor, Idril, Gil-Galad, Maeglin, Finduilas, Celebrian, (Nilpaurion).

Alcarillo
09-05-2005, 01:43 PM
Yep. Your turn.

NightKnight
09-06-2005, 08:56 AM
Who led the Nandor over the Ered Luin?

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-07-2005, 04:37 AM
Denethor.

NightKnight
09-11-2005, 12:19 PM
Yep. Your turn.

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-11-2005, 06:41 PM
An easy one: Who led Túrin and his two guardians into Doriath?

NightKnight
09-12-2005, 10:36 AM
Beleg, of course!

Nilpaurion Felagund
09-12-2005, 08:15 PM
Thread is yours. :)

NightKnight
09-13-2005, 08:54 AM
How did Eöl die?

Telchar
09-13-2005, 09:44 AM
He was cast from the caragdur...

NightKnight
09-13-2005, 12:40 PM
Yes indeed, and well deserved it was, I guess. Your turn.

Telchar
09-14-2005, 12:22 AM
Keeping the topic in mind... whose son became the first prince on Dol Amroth?

The Perky Ent
09-14-2005, 12:05 PM
Hmm....Imrazor and Mithrellas?

Telchar
09-15-2005, 12:17 AM
yep!

Telchar
09-19-2005, 03:31 AM
Perky????

The Perky Ent
09-22-2005, 01:43 PM
...I knew that! List the elves have that had a simaril!

Telchar
09-22-2005, 03:18 PM
That question is very hard to answer correctly - or at least: who do you define elves? ... Problem being Dior, Elwing and Earendil

The Perky Ent
09-22-2005, 03:36 PM
Well, I'd assume the person answering would give both. But, since you want clarification, I think I will count half-elves as well :D

Glirdan
09-22-2005, 04:40 PM
If I'm correct that would be Fëanor, Maehdros (sp?), Earendil and Maglor.

Rune Son of Bjarne
09-22-2005, 04:51 PM
Is it Fëanor, Maehdros, Earendil, Maglor, Thingol, Dior and Elwing

Telchar
09-22-2005, 11:30 PM
Fëanor, Maehdros, Maglor, Luthien, Mablung Thingol, Dior, Elwing and Earendil + a lord of the Green-elves from Ossiriand

I hope those three extras fill the tale :)

The Perky Ent
09-22-2005, 11:34 PM
Meh, I'll give it to you Telchar. I expect Finwe would have handeled them as well, but this is not told in the Quenta Simarilion. Your turn :D

Rune Son of Bjarne
09-23-2005, 04:49 AM
How could i do that ? ? ?

I should be punished for forgetting about Luthien !

Telchar
09-23-2005, 05:02 AM
How could i do that ? ? ?

I should be punished for forgetting about Luthien !

You should be! :D
I wondered myself if Perky had remembered Mablund and the Greenelf but we will probably never know ;)
It was however a good question, so I will continue with an even easier:

Which elves handeled the ring of Barahir?

Rune Son of Bjarne
09-23-2005, 05:13 AM
I am missing something, but i can not figure out what.
The only one i can remember is Finrod

Telchar
09-23-2005, 05:16 AM
Thats half the answer :) Find the other half and you got it...

NightKnight
09-23-2005, 10:40 AM
Finrod and Elrond?

The Perky Ent
09-23-2005, 10:43 AM
I wondered myself if Perky had remembered Mablund and the Greenelf but we will probably never know ;) Which elves handeled the ring of Barahir?

There is only one who knows of what I know. And he is more powerful than any other being in existance. He rules the heavens, and is more powerful than all! ME :D

Telchar
09-23-2005, 02:47 PM
Nightknights got it.
Elrond himself gave the ring to Aragorn.

NightKnight
09-27-2005, 01:45 PM
Hey look, my memory is right for once. :p

Who led the elves of Mirkwood during the attack on Mordor at the time of the Last Alliance?

Telchar
09-27-2005, 02:17 PM
According to memory :p Orophor, Tranduils father

NightKnight
09-28-2005, 02:22 PM
Yep, your turn.

Telchar
09-29-2005, 01:53 AM
What was the elvish name for those elves that followed Denethor over Ered Luin?

NightKnight
09-29-2005, 09:45 AM
The Nandor?

Telchar
09-29-2005, 10:56 AM
Sorry No
The Nandor were those who followed Lenwë. His son led part of that people over Ered Luin. Those are the ones Im looking for.

Rune Son of Bjarne
09-29-2005, 01:38 PM
Laiquendi ?

Telchar
09-30-2005, 02:06 AM
Correct Rune!
:)

Rune Son of Bjarne
09-30-2005, 07:50 AM
who spoke for the part of Turin in the enquiry of the death of Saeros ?

NightKnight
09-30-2005, 10:21 AM
Nellas?

Rune Son of Bjarne
09-30-2005, 10:36 AM
svaret er rigtigt (it is the right answer)

I yield the thread to you

Rune Son of Bjarne
10-26-2005, 02:16 PM
Who was the lord of Gwaith-i-Mirdain?

Gothmog
10-26-2005, 02:20 PM
Celembrimbor was the mightiest among them I think. Lord? Guess so...

Rune Son of Bjarne
10-26-2005, 02:32 PM
Your thread Gothmog.

(face it elves need kings, they cannot exist with out them)

Gothmog
10-26-2005, 02:51 PM
Right! This one might be too easy:

Who was the brave elf who "named Morgoth craven, and lord of slaves"?

Rune Son of Bjarne
10-28-2005, 03:31 AM
I remember that Fingolfin calls Morgoth "Lord of Slaves" as he challenges him, but I don't know if he is the one to name him that.

Telchar
10-28-2005, 03:37 AM
Fingolfin looks good to me, and his older brother called him jail-crow of Mandos – those guys really did what they could to **** him off didnt they? :D

Gothmog
10-28-2005, 04:51 AM
Rune is absolutely correct. The word "named" is gathered from the actual context, so I think he did that... And what a mighty scene, Fingolfin like a silvery flash under a dark cloud! It's my background picture on the computer right now...

The thread is yours Rune :)

Rune Son of Bjarne
10-28-2005, 07:47 PM
And what a mighty scene, Fingolfin like a silvery flash under a dark cloud! It's my background picture on the computer right now...

It is the part of the Silmarillion I love the most!, any chance
you could send me that picture?

Who came from Cirdan bearing a message of warning to the king of Nargothrond ?

NightKnight
10-29-2005, 03:35 AM
Gelmir and Arminas, wasn't it?

A very nice scene indeed. There's a song about that battle, made by Blind Guardian. It's called When Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill). It's very good, you should listen to it.

Rune Son of Bjarne
10-29-2005, 09:49 AM
It was as you say Gelmir and Arminas; your turn NightKnight.

and thanks for the mentioning of Blind Guardian :p

NightKnight
10-30-2005, 02:49 AM
Hmm, quite a lot of Scandinavians in this thread, it seems.

Enedwaith... Who was Egalmoth?

Rune Son of Bjarne
10-30-2005, 10:06 AM
He was the eighteent ruling steward of Gondor, but what does it have to do with Elvorama

NightKnight
10-31-2005, 04:38 AM
You got the right guy. I'm thinking of another Egalmoth.

Alphaelin
11-01-2005, 12:42 AM
Would you be thinking of Egalmoth of Gondolin, chieftan of the fighters of the Heavenly Arch?

- Alphaelin

NightKnight
11-06-2005, 01:29 PM
I would indeed. Please ask us another question, Alphaelin.

Alphaelin
11-07-2005, 01:37 AM
Thank-you, NightKnight.

Okay, which elf was considered the second-best singer in Middle Earth?

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-07-2005, 04:38 AM
Was it Maglor ?

Gothmog
11-07-2005, 06:02 AM
Or was it Daeron? (I never remember this, though I know I read it multiple times)

Alphaelin
11-11-2005, 01:45 AM
Computer problems...ugh.

Rune got it. Daeron was #1, Maglor was second.

So, your turn to ask a question.

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-11-2005, 03:39 AM
Oh I really can't think of anything. . . .

What was the name of the mightiest ring made by Celebrimbor

Gothmog
11-11-2005, 06:01 AM
I'mnot 100% sure but I think it is Galadriel's Ring of Adamant, the Ring of Water: Nenya.

Thinlómien
11-11-2005, 06:46 AM
I'd say it was Vilya, the ring Elrond was using.

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-11-2005, 12:03 PM
your right Thin (you sweet little penguin) it is Vilya, the ring of air, first used by Gil-galad and the Elrond.

Thinlómien
11-16-2005, 09:37 AM
your right Thin (you sweet little penguin) it is Vilya, the ring of air, first used by Gil-galad and the Elrond. :)

Who was Anairë?

Fingolfin II
11-17-2005, 12:35 AM
Fingolfin's (:)) wife?

Thinlómien
11-17-2005, 09:10 AM
Should have known that you know...

Yes, it's correct, please take the thread :)

Fingolfin II
11-18-2005, 12:03 AM
Cheers.

I have a bit of a brain-freeze at the moment, so I'll choose something easy-

Who was the herald of Gil-Galad during the Last Alliance?

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-18-2005, 03:32 AM
I have a bit of a brain-freeze at the moment, so I'll choose something easy-

aparently so do I!

I just cant remember it so I am going to guess:
Elrond

I dont remember what titel he had during the last aliance, but he was serving Gil-galad.

Fingolfin II
11-19-2005, 01:33 AM
That's the one!

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-19-2005, 05:39 AM
Name the sons of Guilin

Gothmog
11-19-2005, 05:47 AM
Gelmir and Gwindor?

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-19-2005, 06:52 AM
hmm, I am starting to get suspicious of you Gothmog. . . But nevermind that, you are correct !

Carry on

Gothmog
11-19-2005, 06:58 AM
Suspicious? What do you mean? I'm more often wrong than right, if you're implying something ;) The last two answer I've given on this thread was wrong (Daeron and Nenya)! And who can forget those two brothers, as unlucky as they were. I actually voted for Gwindor in a thread trying to decide the most tragic (or was it unlucky?) character, but that was a long time ago...

Ok, here comes a new one: What/who is Faelivrin? There's two possible answer and I want them both...

EDIT: Only one answer. Sorry, I was mistaken on something...

NightKnight
11-19-2005, 05:12 PM
Wasn't that Turin's nickname for Finduilas?

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-19-2005, 05:13 PM
now I remember, it is Gwindor’s name for Finduilas !

Thanks NightKnight

Gothmog
11-19-2005, 06:38 PM
Oh, you were so close NightKnight, but I must give this to our southern neighbour. Your turn Rune!

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-19-2005, 06:55 PM
Thanks.

Time for an easy one: Were did Caranthir dwell ?

NightKnight
11-20-2005, 01:16 PM
Oh bugger.

Caranthir dwelt in Thargelion.

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-20-2005, 03:35 PM
yup thats right.

NightKnight
11-21-2005, 10:54 AM
What was depicted on Turgon's standard?

Fingolfin II
11-22-2005, 04:35 AM
Could be totally wrong here, but is it something like Fingolfin's heart? I remember reading something about that before.....

NightKnight
11-23-2005, 06:55 AM
Close. :)

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-26-2005, 11:11 AM
the moon and the sun and the scarlet heart ?

I read somwhere that those were the embelms of Turgons house (the hart representing Fingolfin), but I don't know if it was on his standart.

NightKnight
11-27-2005, 06:38 AM
You're pretty close. Who's heart was it?

Rune Son of Bjarne
11-27-2005, 06:40 AM
the moon and the sun and Fingolfins heart ?

NightKnight
11-28-2005, 01:12 PM
Nope.

Nilpaurion Felagund
12-05-2005, 02:39 AM
The Scarlet Heart of Finwë Nolemë. :)

NightKnight
12-06-2005, 12:36 AM
Yep. Your turn, Nil.

Nilpaurion Felagund
12-07-2005, 05:27 AM
A very easy one: Who is the king of all Elves?

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-07-2005, 05:43 AM
Ingwë

Nilpaurion Felagund
12-07-2005, 06:15 AM
Your turn.

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-07-2005, 06:25 AM
It was rather easy. . .

Where did Caranthir, Celegorm and Curufin often go to hunt ?

Beleg
12-08-2005, 01:05 PM
Talath Dirnen

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-08-2005, 03:15 PM
Thats not it.

Beleg
12-11-2005, 12:08 PM
Rhaaa

Is it Himlad?

I cannot think of something else than the Guarded Plain for now, but I have to read some parts again.

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-11-2005, 12:31 PM
Himlad is not the Guarded Plain. . .

Anyways I have forgotten the answer, it is either Himlad or Thargelion.

Let's just say you were right.

Beleg
12-12-2005, 04:16 AM
I didn't mean Himlad was the Guarded Plain. I answered in the post before Talath Dirnen and it is the Guarded Plain.
The other possibility was Himlad, but I was more convinced about Talath Dirnen and couldn't think about something else.
I was wrong obviously, as you said it might be Himlad.

Is it said in the Silmarillion? Searching a bit longer, I can try to find the answer.

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-12-2005, 05:45 AM
I cant remember where I read it, because I am not sure I rule that your answer was correct.

Please procede.

Beleg
12-12-2005, 08:41 AM
Here we go.

The name of the golden tree in Gondolin?

NightKnight
12-12-2005, 02:25 PM
Glingal?

Beleg
12-13-2005, 04:37 AM
Yep yep.

Your turn I guess :)

NightKnight
12-13-2005, 01:45 PM
Wow, my memory was right for once. :p

Who did Barahir rescue from Dagor Bragollach?

Dimturiel
12-13-2005, 01:50 PM
That should be Finrod Felagund.

NightKnight
12-14-2005, 02:17 AM
So it was. I surrender the thread to you.

Dimturiel
12-14-2005, 08:39 AM
And I thank you for it :). How were the Elves that refused to come with Orome called?

Valier
12-14-2005, 10:28 AM
The Avari.

Dimturiel
12-14-2005, 10:58 AM
Right you are. Oh, and welcome to the Downs. :)

Valier
12-14-2005, 11:06 AM
May I ask one? What are the 2 names of Turin's female companion?

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-14-2005, 05:00 PM
Nienor and Níniel

She is allso known as Nienor Níniel with Níniel beeing her surname.
(The Tear-maiden)

I think that is all. . .

And welcome to the downs Valier, I hope you will be a frequent poster in the Quiz Room.

Valier
12-14-2005, 06:01 PM
Your right! your turn!!

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-14-2005, 06:08 PM
Name a member of the House of the Golden Flower

NightKnight
12-15-2005, 11:23 AM
Glorfindel, being their leader.

And another welcome to you, Valier. May your stay be long and enjoyable. :)

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-15-2005, 08:32 PM
Thats right!

Actually I can't remember anyone els than Glorfindel from that house right now, so I am pleased that was your answer. (otherwise I would have to find my companion and thereby break my rule to never use it in the quiz room)

NightKnight
12-16-2005, 01:31 PM
The only one I know as well. ;)

Who was it that picked up the crown of Finrod Felagund when he threw it on the floor?

Gothmog
12-17-2005, 11:30 AM
Tricky... Edahil picked up the crown but it was given Orodreth so that he could govern Nargothrond until the day Finrod returned. But the name you seek is Edrahil, I think...

NightKnight
12-18-2005, 03:53 PM
It was him, yes. Your turn, Lord of Balrogs.

Gothmog
12-20-2005, 08:53 AM
Thank you my Swedish friend! And I hope you can accept my apologize for keeping you waiting with my question. As I've said before, right now there's simply not enough time... But here I go, even if it'll be an easy one:

Give an other (old) name for Lothlorien and it's meaning!

Good luck you Masters of Quiz! (By the way, who is King of Quiz? We all know who's the king of quotes, so there should be a king of quiz! Vote? :) )

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-20-2005, 09:09 AM
are you thinking of Laurelindórenan a name used by tree-beard (he is old) and Faramir. . .

It means: Land of the Valley of Singing Gold ( I had to look that up :o)

Gothmog
12-21-2005, 10:14 AM
Correct as always :)

Your turn!

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-21-2005, 05:47 PM

Thanks.

Ok give me the sindarin name for orc and it's actual meaning.

Telchar
12-22-2005, 03:46 AM
The Sindarin name for orc is orch, plural yrch. Boths meaning simply orc and orcs. But I guess you're looking for an older word only used in SILM: Glamhoth which means "noise-horde" or "noise-host" - The word is reflected in the name of Gandalfs sword: Glamdring: "Foe-hammer" / "Noise-horde-hammer" ... hope that is accurate enough for you ;)

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-22-2005, 05:34 AM
Of course it is my good Telchar, please continue the thread.

Telchar
12-22-2005, 05:57 AM
If Andwise had been a Silvan elf, what material would he have used for his craft?

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-22-2005, 06:20 AM
hithlain

The difficult part was who Andwise was (at least for me)

Gothmog
12-22-2005, 07:50 PM
Elu Thingol?

Och ha en God jul och ett Gott Nytt År (Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year)

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-22-2005, 08:15 PM
he is sertenly one of them, but the question was: wich kings ;)

Gothmog
12-22-2005, 08:31 PM
Oh, sorry... I'd say Finrod Felagund and Elu Thingol.. It must be someone else too, but at least I've helped someone with the correct answer :) That's the only kings I can think of right now...

Telchar
12-23-2005, 05:38 AM
Besides the obvious Finrod Felagund, and later Thingol, the list has to contain Dior Thingols Heir - and probably also Orodreth who ruled Nargothrond, though he is reffered to as "lord of Nargothrond" and not king ...

This is actually an interesting question... because it (to me) raises other questions...

What happend to the Nauglamir? Was the Silmaril ever seperated from the Nauglamír? Could we count Eärendil to the list above? He was lord of the people that survived the fall of Gondolin and the Sack of Doriath, and he chose to be counted among the elves... But I can find no reference to the Nauglamir at the Mouth of Sirion or being with Eärendil later - It is said that he bore the Silmaril on his brow - The Nauglamír is not a thing one would wear on ones brow is it? So maybe the Nauglamír never left Doriath - only the Silmaril?

These were my thoughts :)

Rune Son of Bjarne
12-23-2005, 05:56 AM
I can do nothing, but hand the thread over to you.

With out turning this into a discution I would like to say: I think the Nauglamir left ME with the silmaril, We know that the silmaril was meant to bee worn around the neck(when it was a part of the Nauglamir), but the first time ever we hear of it beeing used otherwise (the silmaril) is when Earendil where it on his brows. Sureley if they had been seperatet and worn as to different pieces Tolkien would have written about it and It would not have been such a big deal that Earendil choses to wear it like that.

Gothmog
12-23-2005, 08:00 AM
Oh yeah, I forgot Dior but I left Orodreth out on purpose. I didn't consider him a king, even if he was a ruler for some time. He was like the Stewards of Gondor... Sorry for this off-topic post, please proceed like nothing ever happened :)

NightKnight
12-25-2005, 05:52 PM
Adding to the off topic discussion, I somehow recall reading Elwing having the necklace. Though i might be way off though. ;)

Which elf feared to be stricken in the darkness?

NightKnight
12-28-2005, 04:58 PM
Was it Finrod?

Telchar
12-29-2005, 01:37 AM
Nope...

Tuor in Gondolin
12-29-2005, 09:19 AM
Was it Maedhros?

Telchar
12-29-2005, 06:24 PM
No - No... are you guys just guessing at random??? lol

Valier
01-09-2006, 10:18 PM
Is it Eol?

Telchar
01-10-2006, 03:46 PM
Nope + Eol doesn't seem to be the type that fears anything, having too much pride for that... The Elf we're looking for is a more, ... shall we say fearfull caracter, though that might be going a bit too far.

Rune Son of Bjarne
01-10-2006, 03:54 PM
Random guess: Gwindor ?

Telchar
01-10-2006, 04:17 PM

Probably Galdor ?

Rune Son of Bjarne

;) Second quess is Erestor?

Rune Son of Bjarne
01-22-2006, 07:56 AM

Telchar
01-22-2006, 10:14 AM
No, It's not / nut just you, but some / alot of people seem to suck it in ;)

Q: The Elves woke up to the sound of running water - from which mountains did the streams and rivers near Cuiviénen come?

Rune Son of Bjarne

Telchar

Can I? I was waiting for somebody to do so, i quite like this thread, but it's quiet since few days... And anyway, I always arrive too late to answer.

Bah..

Q: Who is Aikanaro?

Rune Son of Bjarne
01-30-2006, 11:07 AM
Well Beleg we do have a 10 day rule. . . Next time you cannot wait for me (or anybody els) to reply please make a *Bump*

But since I cannot think of anything better to ask I will let your question stand.

Thinlómien

Aikanaro is Aegnor, one of the sons of Finarfin.

The Saucepan Man

What linguistic change partly affected the history of noldor?

Elu Ancalime
02-14-2006, 07:38 PM
Thingol said for no Sinda to use Quenya tounge....so that didnt start things out all warm and fuzzy...and the Sons of Feanor eventually sacked Menengroth....I guess....

Rune Son of Bjarne
06-14-2006, 04:22 PM
Are you thinking about the lies that Melkor spread amongst the Noldor and let to the rivalry of Feanor and Fingolfin ? Before that the Noldor had not spoken lies (if I remember correct), with a bit of good will you could call it a linguistic change.

Rune Son of Bjarne
01-31-2008, 04:14 PM
Hey Lommy you never answered my question. . .

Legate of Amon Lanc
01-31-2008, 04:31 PM
I believe she referred to the movement when Noldor separated from Vanyar... the so-called "Shibboleth of Fëanor". :smokin:

Thinlómien
02-01-2008, 03:05 AM
Rune - so sorry. :D But I wasn't thinking about that.
Legate - heh, hmmm...., I'm not actually sure if you're right because honestly, I can't remember what the answer was :o :D, only what it was related to. But if you can wait for several hours, I'll check it late this evening when I come home...

Thinlómien

Yes, you were right, Legate. Please take the thread. :)

Yay, great. Now I have to check what this thread is even supposed to be about...

So Elves, hmm? (Who would have expected that  )

What was the original function of talan?

Nerwen
02-15-2008, 05:59 AM
Telain (plural!:p) were originally refuges and outlook posts.

...What are the rules? Is it just anything about Elves?

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-15-2008, 06:59 AM
Anything about Elves, I guess.

And btw, I was speaking in singular, as in "how does a guitar work". :p

Nerwen
02-15-2008, 07:54 AM
Then I believe you should have said "a talan".:p (We're such a mature lot around here, aren't we?)

Who was Thingol's chief captain?

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-15-2008, 08:16 AM
Mablung?

02-15-2008, 08:56 AM
Yes.

Which Elven King liked jewels the most of all?

Rune Son of Bjarne

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-16-2008, 02:42 AM
No, not exactly.

Nerwen
02-16-2008, 05:41 AM
Thranduil?

02-16-2008, 05:53 AM
Yes, that's him. Your turn.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-16-2008, 06:17 AM
Was it bronze?

Nerwen
02-16-2008, 06:33 AM
It was indeed.:)

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-16-2008, 06:55 AM
All right, when you are so clever - who entered Gondolin on a grey horse?

Nerwen
02-16-2008, 07:35 AM
Was it Tuor? I don't remember it saying what colour his horse was.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-16-2008, 07:44 AM
Yes, it was him. The Elves gave him a horse, of course, he did not arrive on it.

Your turn.

Nerwen
02-16-2008, 07:49 AM
But how do you know it was a grey horse? They had white ones too– I just looked it up. (Unless you're going with the horse-breeders thing of calling white horses "greys".)

Anyway.

The pillars of Menegroth were made in the shape of what kind of tree?

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-16-2008, 08:01 AM
Hmm... beeches?

And it's specifically written there that they brought out a grey one for Tuor.

Nerwen
02-16-2008, 08:08 AM
Aha! I just found the bit you mean.

And yes, they were beeches.:)

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-16-2008, 08:18 AM
Great, now I have to make a new one :p

Okay, at the risk of looking too self-centered: What and when was the reason for the Elves to abandon Amon Lanc? ;)

Nerwen
02-16-2008, 09:10 AM
Second Age. Oropher didn't like the neighbours... and he wasn't keen on the rising power of Sauron... and there was this one really smug Elf called Legate who got on his nerves.:D

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-18-2008, 09:15 AM
 Of course, you are right... at least in the first two, that is. Please continue.

How many High Kings of the Noldor had initials other than F?

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-19-2008, 05:59 AM
That's a very interesting question. I'll try... two?

Nerwen
02-19-2008, 06:07 AM
Yes.

Your turn.:)

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-19-2008, 06:29 AM
Oh, good, I wasn't that sure if I didn't miss some secret branch in there :)

Okay... hmm... what about this. Kind of a speciality. We all know Eöl was called "the Dark Elf". However, once, a certain Elf named someone else as "Dark Elf", although he was also called "Dark" himself. Who were these two - the one who spoke and the one who this Elf spoke about?

Nerwen
02-19-2008, 07:18 AM
Caranthir, referring to Thingol.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-19-2008, 07:20 AM

At last! I thought nobody was ever going to answer.

Over to you.:D

Thinlómien
02-29-2008, 07:39 AM
Yeah, I can't understand what took so long. I mean, I knew that Balan was Bëor's original name and that Bëor served Finrod but somehow I was unable to connect the two facts... :D

Anyway, the next question is

Who taught his daughter's husband?

Nerwen
02-29-2008, 08:22 AM
Mahtan.

Thinlómien
03-01-2008, 05:49 AM
Yes.
