righty away

who were the original holders of the 3 elven rings AND what happened too them

Lyta_Underhill
07-24-2003, 09:39 PM
As far as I can recall, the Three Rings were held by:
Narya: Gil-Galad, given to Cirdan, thence to Gandalf
Vilya: Elrond
Nenya: Galadriel

All three lost their power when the One Ring was destroyed. as for what happened to the holders: Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf passed West, while Gil-Galad perished at the Great Battle of Elves and Men at the end of the Second Age; Cirdan sailed the ship out of the Grey Havens. Is that good?

Cheers,
Lyta

Meneltarmacil
07-24-2003, 09:47 PM
The original holders of the Three Rings...

VILYA belonged to Gil-Galad. When Gil-Galad died in the battle of the Last Alliance, Elrond recieved his ring, which he kept until he sailed into the West.

NENYA belonged to Galadriel, who kept it until she sailed into the West.

NARYA belonged to Cirdan, who gave it to Gandalf when he first arrived in Middle Earth. Gandalf kept the ring until he sailed into the West. Cirdan sailed into the West later.

This is what Tolkien said about himself, so Amanaduial is correct. smilies/smile.gif

O.K. In this thread you can only ask very easy questions. You shouldn't have to look them up. This is for all of the Newbies and people who don't own all of the books.

Samwise wonders, looking back at the last 7 pages, why this thread is called Very Easy Trivia

Without checking back over every page, most of the questions look to come from LotR and the Hobbit. That seems to me to be a fairly good rule of thumb, with perhaps the occasional very easy question from the Silm or the Appendices to LotR.

But Samwise does have a point. Try not to keep the questions fairly straightforward and avoid asking anything too obscure (however tempting it might be smilies/wink.gif ).

NightKnight
01-08-2004, 01:30 PM
So, an easy question it is!

In what two places did the hosts of Rohan and Gondor fight together during the War of the Ring?

Elrond of Rivendell
01-08-2004, 02:18 PM
Didn't they fight together a) on the Pelennor Fields before Minas Tirith and b) before the Black Gate?

Well done Heni. You could have added that Gwaihir took Gandalf from Orthanc to Edoras and from Zirakzigil to Lothlórien, but let us not be mean in this thread. smilies/wink.gif

Fingolfin II

The Silmarils?

Fingolfin II
03-21-2004, 02:00 AM
Assuming I'm right, I'll ask another easy question. What is the name of Gimli's father?

NightKnight
03-21-2004, 05:08 AM
Actually, you're supposed to wait for confirmation. But the answer to your question is Gloin.

Fingolfin II

Right on both counts.

NightKnight
03-23-2004, 12:59 AM
Who was the son of king Thranduil of Mirkwood?

Gil-Galad
03-23-2004, 04:43 PM
Legolas, son of Thranduil, Son of Orodreth

NightKnight
03-24-2004, 01:36 AM
Correct. But Thranduil's father was Oropher, not Orodreth. Orodreth lived in the First Age.

Gil-Galad
03-24-2004, 10:07 PM
yah i get those mixed up all the time...

How did Oropher die!? and why?

Gil Galad
03-24-2004, 10:14 PM
Oropher died in the battle of the last allience, along with two thirds of his army. Thranduil survived and returned to found Mirkwood. Am I right?

NightKnight
03-25-2004, 11:46 AM
Two Gil-Galads...confusing. Anyway, he was killed during the battle of Dagorlad, and since Gil Galad hasn't stated why, I'll say it: It was because he and his army rushed forward before Gil-galad had given signal, and so they were cut off from the army.

Gil-Galad
03-25-2004, 06:15 PM
Gil Galad(i'm still the original) is rrrrrrrrrrrrrwrong!
NightKnight has it! Oropher died because he rushed too quick AND was ill-armed so, the NK man its your go!

Edit: Oropher founded Greenwood i believe, then Thranduil just became the new king

NightKnight

The Perky Ent
04-11-2004, 08:32 PM

Fingolfin II
04-11-2004, 10:15 PM
I think it's 70 days- He was imprisoned July 10th and escaped September 18th.

The original Very Easy Trivia has reached its 10-page limit and so i'm reviving it. Rules for the game are:
O.K. In this thread you can only ask very easy questions. You shouldn't have to look them up. This is for all of the Newbies and people who don't own all of the books.

So you basically say easy things that people should be able to obtain easily, hense the title.

Lutien-Elvenprincess asked the question:How many days was Gandalf imprisioned at Orthanc?

I guessed
2 months so like 62 days?

while Fingolfin II guessed: I think it's 70 days- He was imprisoned July 10th and escaped September 18th.

That about covers it! Carry on :D

Nynnd1, as you will see from the Quiz Room rules (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=6003), it is the person who correctly answers a question who gets to ask the next one. So it is ***gandalf***'s turn. But if he hasn't asked a question within 10 days from his answer being confirmed, then anyone can go.

Bullroarer Took?

The Perky Ent

Pippin? :D (remember ent draught sceen)

The Squatter of Amon Rûdh
06-20-2004, 07:11 AM
From Concerning Hobbits:
Bandobras Took, son of Isengrim the Second was four foot five and able to ride a horse. He was surpassed in all Hobbit records only by two famous characters of old

The answer depends on how loosely you define 'canon'. According to this forum, the world's tallest hobbit is Lindolirian, but if you want to be boring and insist on sticking to the books, Merry and Pippin were the tallest. I don't think Tolkien says which of them had the most inches.

Kath
06-20-2004, 10:42 AM
Well I was looking for Merry (I assumed he'd be taller since he was always taller than Pippin originally) so the Squatter of Amon Rudh can go.

The Squatter of Amon Rûdh
