Around Christmas. :( Which means I won't be able to see it until September 2005 probably, since I won't be in the country...

I would not think it would be very close to Christmas! The pattern has been the "wimpy" DVD in August, and then the special extended edition in November. Since the crew at New Line has moved the wimpy RotK DVD up to May 25th, I would think the logical conclusion is for the extended edition's release to move up.

I was on TORn the other day and they had an interview with a New Line executive and he was talking about a Christmas release, but I'm assuming that it means Christmas season. In the city I live near, that rush begins the day after Thanksgiving and the other two EE's were released at the end of November right after Thanksgiving. I would like it if they moved it up, but I hope they at least release about the same time as they did the others.

Bad New Line! BAD New Line! Bad enough that they release RotK during my family vacation, but to wait extra long for the EE?

Note to Starkat: I like your signature. Have you been to the forum I mention in my signature? "Aslan is on the move", you know!

Yup! I've been there!
I wish we didn't have to wait so long for the RotK EE either.

Well, of course they should move up the release of the EE, since the moved up the original, but I'm pretty sure that you guys are right in saying it'll be released in the later part of Nov. Can't pass up the bucks they'll get from sales for X-Mas gifts :p.

Well, I'm not questioning that New Line have their eyes on the money. But there's another (possible) reason that the RotK EE won't come out sooner than November - namely, that it isn't finished yet! It's easy enough to release the theatrical version earlier, since it's already been made. But they do have to do quite a bit of extra work on the EE - and remember, all involved have other projects to work on as well, including PJ. So the EE will have to be made in the 'gabs' in the other work...

True. I was also wondering that they weren't releasing it earlier because they didn't want to compete with the Star Wars trilogy coming out on DVD in September.

Wonder if the later EE release date means it will have have even more extra stuff than the others had.............

Does anyone have a specific quote from me on how long the EE will be? As far as I know, no one knows, but I don't want to read what's going to be added, so maybe I've skipped over the time .

Atleast 4:15

Isn't that a bit hard to say if the cut is incomplete...well, TORn is quite safe source though.

Actually this time around the cut was pretty much complete before the theatrical was! (Meaning they had this long cut they intended for the dvd, then had to cut stuff from it...with varying degress of noticability;))

But it's definately done; John Howe's seen it for a start. I'dimagine tweaking effects shots and doing all the extras would take a while.

In fact, when the new Line rep said Christmassy time, he did say that one large reason for this was the commentaries: seeing as the castwerne'tcoming back for pickups this time, getting them toghtehrter for commentaries is a lot more difficultinterms of finding dates they can all make.

I thought what Olorin just said, that the cutting was done, & I'm pretty sure it is.

I'd heard 4 hours 15 minutes too, but that's 45 minutes extra, just like TTT, & I thought that PJ might put on a little more since it was the next movie :D. Oh well, hopefully ToRn is wrong, not that it won't be long enough anyway if they're not :p...

I heard ~4:20 for the extended, making it about an hour longer than the theatrical version. If that's true, the 3 EE versions will last over 11 hours in all. Should make for a good, long day of LotR watching :)

Yay! Only a few more months to go and the EE will be out! (Then a year after that Narnia!) Less than 7 days until the theatrical release comes out!

Wow is it only 3 days now!?!

Basically this thread is beginning to sound like the Support Group for RotK EE (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=10223&page=1) thread, so you should probably post there for the final 3 days. Since the original reason for this thread being started was answered long ago, it really should be dead in the water (at least IMO).
