View Full Version : The Blessing in the Curse
The Perky Ent

Hello everyone! If you like what if... games, you might like this :) The way the game works is, a person states a misfortune that happened to someone or something. Then, people guess the good fortune that came out of it. Here's an example:
Curse: Frodo lost a finger
The blessing is that Frodo destoryed the ring in the process! Get the idea? I hope so! Well, here's the first question:
Curse: Boromir's Death
Now what's the Blessing?
Firefoot
08-06-2004, 01:49 PM
Pippin became a guard of Minas Tirith, and saved Faramir from death?
The Perky Ent
08-06-2004, 01:52 PM
Close but no. The Faramir part was close though :D

The blessing Faramir let Frodo go
The Perky Ent
08-06-2004, 09:15 PM
nope
Morsul the Dark
08-06-2004, 09:46 PM
THis is farfetched and i will explain my reasoning
Faramir met Eowyn
Faramir was Dentor's son and he thought he died so he tried to burn him Faramir met Eowyn in the houses of healing
The Perky Ent
08-06-2004, 09:51 PM
That's not farfected. That's the reasoning you use for a game like this. Your really close with Faramir, but it's not with Eowyn.
And BTW, Faramir wasn't the son of Dentor. It's Denethor. (I'm just joking! Typos happen! Especially to me!)
Morsul the Dark
08-06-2004, 09:53 PM
Merry he wouldn't have met merry
The Perky Ent
08-06-2004, 09:56 PM
Nope. think love.
Morsul the Dark
08-06-2004, 10:01 PM
Hmm...thats odd... Faramir+love=eowyn grabs book time to cheat and still get it wrong :D
Faramir met Lorith who brought forth Aragorn with "oh that thwere kings here like the days of old" so Aragorn finally trully accepted kingly responsibility((not that he didnt already have it)
NightKnight

Faramir finally got his father's love?

Good job it is so obvious now "smacks head" oh well I'll have to try again next time good game i like it

08-09-2004, 08:17 AM
Now that wasn't too hard, was it? :p
Curse: The attack on the elven dwelling at the Havens of Sirion by the sons of Fëanor. What's the blessing?
The Perky Ent
08-09-2004, 10:05 PM
Hmm...that's a tricky! I'm gonna have to work on that one :smokin: Better get in the mood.
*******************A couple of hours (aka seconds) later********************
Is the blessing that the simaril came to Earendil?
NightKnight
08-10-2004, 01:37 AM
A very good guess, and quite close, but not exactly what I had in mind.
The Perky Ent
08-10-2004, 09:19 AM
How about that the simaril escaped the hands of Maehdros and Maeglin?
NightKnight
08-11-2004, 02:28 AM
Nope. The other question was closer.
The Perky Ent
08-14-2004, 10:33 PM
Earendil was given the opportunity to become a star?
NightKnight
08-15-2004, 04:57 AM
Close again, but nope. ;)
The Perky Ent
08-15-2004, 04:59 AM
Elwing escaped what could of been her death?
NightKnight
08-15-2004, 05:04 AM
You were closer with Earendil.
The Perky Ent
08-26-2004, 07:54 PM
Hmm...uh...Earendil survived to slay Anacalagon?
NightKnight
08-27-2004, 05:39 AM
Nope.
The Perky Ent
09-06-2004, 06:59 PM
Earendil was able to summon the Valar?
Gil-Galad
09-06-2004, 07:17 PM
Very good thread Perky
Elros and Elrond were still treated good
NightKnight
09-07-2004, 08:33 AM
Perks, you got it. If the sons of Fëanor hadn't attacked, Elwing wouldn't have fled and taken the Silmaril to Eärendil, and without he wouldn't have come to Valinor to summon the Valar.
The Perky Ent
09-07-2004, 04:36 PM
Sweet! Alright! Here's the next one:
Curse: Isildur kept the ring
Blessing: ?
Gil-Galad
09-07-2004, 04:53 PM
United North and South again?
The Perky Ent
09-07-2004, 05:18 PM
Nope, but good guess :D
Gil-Galad
09-07-2004, 05:27 PM
elves regained hope in man as they fought off sauron under aragorn?
The Perky Ent
09-07-2004, 05:37 PM
Um...but the ring and Aragorn comming to the throne weren't really related, so no :D
NightKnight
09-08-2004, 05:21 AM
Sauron didn't get the Ring?
Gil-Galad
09-08-2004, 07:10 AM
Actually, if Isildur threw teh ring in Mt.Doom, then most orcs would be mindless, so then maybe Isildurs eldest son survived, and he had a son, then only the eldest line would be king, so then aragorn would never had been king!
The Perky Ent
09-08-2004, 04:12 PM
nope, and even if he survived, the fate of Eärnur would still be the same with his heirs. Well, no one really knows. It's just a what if. And this is based on fact. So, the answer is wrong. This is something that had a clear impact :D
Gil-Galad
09-08-2004, 04:49 PM
Fate of Earnur? keep is mind Earnur was on Aldarions line... so Arnor probaly would still be standing... and maybe since with Sauron the Witch-King is gone so Earnur might have a different fate?
The Perky Ent
09-08-2004, 04:50 PM
Maybe yes, maybe know. If you want to pursue the topic further, why don't you start a thread about it in the books? As for me, I'd like to stick to the yes or no basic the rules suggest :D
Gil-Galad
09-08-2004, 04:53 PM
very well.. i;ve already gotten to Mr.Opus's bad side, i better not temper him too much...

Aragorn met Arwen?( Once the Ring was destroyed, Elrond and his family would have left Valinor not long after.)
The Perky Ent
09-10-2004, 03:07 PM

09-20-2004, 07:51 PM
Bilbo would have died in the tunnels under the Misty Mountains?
The Perky Ent
09-20-2004, 07:56 PM
Correct! Congraduations!
Nanedhel
09-20-2004, 08:13 PM
Wow, really?
That caught me off guard, so I will start with a fairly easy one.
Maedhros was taken captive by Morgoth
Tuor of Gondolin
09-20-2004, 08:40 PM
The exiled elves were reconciled?
Nanedhel
09-20-2004, 08:53 PM
Correct, Tuor of Gondolin
Tuor of Gondolin
09-21-2004, 08:21 AM
How about:
BB forgetting to send Gandalf's letter to Frodo?
The Saucepan Man
09-21-2004, 08:56 AM
Because they left the Shire later than Gandalf intended, the Hobbits met Gildor and his companions, who were able to send word to Elrond in Rivendell of Frodo's plight, thus ensuring that Glorfindel was abroad searching for them. But for this chain of events, Frodo would almost certainly have succumbed to the Witch-king's blade.
Tuor of Gondolin
09-21-2004, 11:08 AM
An excellent, well-thought out answer. But not what I'm thinking of. :)
And also, if Frodo had left earlier the Nine wouldn't have been in Eriador when he
was going to Rivendell. (Which would have led to a rather boring trip to
Rivendell). :D
NightKnight
09-21-2004, 12:32 PM
Aragorn came with them?
paavo
09-21-2004, 12:52 PM
they met bill the pony? :D
Tuor of Gondolin
09-21-2004, 02:55 PM
Aragorn. Nope. I believe (?) he was going to meet the hobbits and
Gandalf anyway.
Bill the Pony? Nope. Actually, that is a possible answer, but not the specific
positive thing (at least for many people) I'm thinking of that was an eventual
plus thing that happened later relating to the letter not being sent on time.
Nanedhel
10-11-2004, 07:40 AM
Frodo's delay due to the letter not reaching him on time gave the 'conspirators' a chance to formulate a plan to go with him when he left. If he had left earlier, Merry, Pippin and Sam would not have gone with him. All three played important roles later, but the main one that comes to my mind is that Pippin was involved in the death of the Lord of the Nazgul.
Nanedhel
12-02-2004, 09:06 PM
:) Yoo-hoo, Tuor of Gondolin. Is anyone close to the answer, or do we need a nudge in the right direction?
Tuor of Gondolin
12-02-2004, 09:58 PM
Sorry about that.
The answers above are actually much better then the rather
frivolous one I have in mind.
A clue:
It certainly helped BB professionally.

Gandalf blessed Butterbur's beer?
Tuor of Gondolin
12-04-2004, 03:29 PM
Correct.
Although it seems a questionable boon, since Barliman was, in effect,
rewarded for screwing up having Gandalf's letter forwarded. :)

How about Morgoth cursing Húrin & co?
NightKnight
12-05-2004, 02:12 PM
Glaurung was slain? If they hadn't been killed, Turin would probably never had been sent to Thingol, and would probably not have ended up killing Glaurung.
