There is a new article in Salon.com's Books section concerning a new edition of The Silmarillion.

You have to watch a short commercial to read the entire thing (unless you already subscribe to Salon, of course), and you may not agree with all of it, but it is such a warm article that I had to share it with you.

Cool article. I loved this quote from it:

Reading Tolkien's "Silmarillion" is like looking at a frayed and faded picture of your grandfather and all of a sudden recognizing why your nose is shaped just the way it is.

I've seen that edition; it's lovely. I already have one version with illustrations by Ted Nasmith, but there are a lot of new ones in this new edition... I'm wondering if it's worth buying this just so I can look at the pretty pictures... :rolleyes:
