View Full Version : Lalwende & davem wish to announce their engagement

davem
03-08-2005, 04:47 PM
Yes, its true. Lalwende has agreed to make an honest man of me.

For those who are interested, we met up in December after pm'ing each other for a few months & discovering we only lived 20 miles from each other. We got engaged on Sunday & are both very happy.

We're now hoping all our rep points can be amalgamated so that no-one has a hope in hell of beating us :p

Wow! I thought you two were getting on well together.

I am very happy for you both and may I wish you every happiness together. Marriage is certainly something that I can heartily recommend. :)

Will it be a Tolkien-themed wedding, perhaps? I can well imagine Hobbit page-boys and bridesmaids and a wing-crowned davem and Elven-gowned Lalwende walking back down the aisle together ... :smokin:

Goodness gracious me! That's two enagements announced on the Downs in the space of a month or so! I shall have to buy a new Saucepan hat. :D

My congratulations are being mentally (oh look! AND visually) sent to you. :) I wish you all the happiness and that good stuff. Having never been married, I can offer no good advice, but will this shindig involve mathoms?

*Fea has thought* Now wouldn't it be fun if Lal and davem had an RP wedding with all the members involved? Kinda like the birthday parties.

Aww, that's so cool. You'll be having a marvelously long courtship to get things worked out, so it's probably too soon to know if you've got a date set, I hope. ;) After all you two have been together only as long as my leg has been broken... now that's odd.
Good luck to you both!:D

Anyways, I wish you both a wonderful relationship. :)

This is wonderful news! Congratulations to both of you, and hopefully all your arguments will be good-natured! (I don't think this was altogether a surprise, but only because I read the ghost of a hint a little while back and passed it off...I should trust my instincts more!) :D I'm raising my glass to you both as I speak (no mean feat, as I have to type this as well!). Unfortunately, although the beverage is solidly alcoholic, it is but a salve to a sore throat and nagging cough...anyway "thag you very buch" for sharing the great news!

Congratulations!

I only hope that this relationship works out well, and is of as much joy to the two of you as the relationships of Tolkien's couples were.

Wait...

Tarannon&Beruthiel
Aldarion&Erendis
Denethor&Finduilas (ended in tragedy, if naught else)
Turambar&Niniel (ewww!!!)
Aredhel&Eol

Okay... maybe not all of Tolkien's couples. May the blessing of Sam and Rosie be upon you!

Wait again!

That might not work either....

Okay, we can't go wrong with the Master's own allegory: Beren and Luthien. May your lives be full of happiness, and your spirits be entwined beyond the ending of this life.

I am absolutely delighted for both of you, Lalwendė and davem! You've been walking hand-in-hand on the reputation list for awhile now, so to have you find each other in real life is a wonderful continuation. What is it they say about life imitating art (or was that the other way around? ;) )... I wish you all the very best - and this gives me just one more reason to look forward to meeting the two of you at "Tolkien 2005" this summer!

Congratulations Lalwendė and davem. It is an institution that I too can thoroughly recommend (even after 28 years!!) Best wishes to you both :D

I'd like to share the following good advice, from Ogden Nash:

To keep your marriage brimming,
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you're wrong, admit it;
Whenever you're right, shut up!

Congratulations! May your life together be filled with moments of bliss. Note that, from experience, the only thing better than finding your love with whom to share your life is to create a family with the same.

And I assume that you both are on the same side of the 'Balrog's wings' debate, surely, and if not, then there's a plan to resolve the issue before the big day? ;)

Best wishes!

Wow. . .and. . .

Wow. . .

That's wonderful news! Best I've heard in a long time. (But don't think for a moment that I will stand idly by and allow you to combine your reps!)

There absolutely must be some role or part for us of the BDs in the ceremony. At my own wedding, those who could not attend sent 'telegrams' (emails) that were read out at the reception -- any chance of the same??

Failing that, at the very least, maybe we could entice the happy couple into their first RPG: The Wedding of Lord Davem and the Lady Lalwende! It could be like the annual Birthday Party for the Downs and everyone could come in their BD character to wish the couple well. But where would it be set? The Shire? Rivendell? Lorien? Minas Tirith? Mordor?

"Then Aragorn was abashed, for he saw the elven-light in her eyes and the wisdom of many days; yet from that hour he loved Arwen Undomiel daughter of Elrond."

And may I second Helen's request for pictures?

Heh, they will be at the altar (or before a justice of the peace or judge or however they choose to wed) and hissing back and forth... "Wings!" -- "No wings!" -- "Of course they had wings, it says so right there in the book!" -- "It's metaphorical!" :D

I'm trying to think of a gift for you two but...

I guess a painting will have to do, that's my only physical talent. So, I guess the next question would have to be: Watercolours or Oils? Realistic or Abstract consepts? Or just a big beautiful fantasy piece?

Err surely the courtship phase is over? And engagement surely by definition happens when the date of marriage is more or less decided (ie engaged to be married at that date ? ) Or maybe I am hopelessly old fashioned :D ? Some of the most successful relationships I know were established after quite short courtships - much more positive, than a lot of dripping about, (in Middle Earth cf Faramir and Eowyn and Aldarion and Erendis ).....

Anyway that is by the by Congratulations!!!!!

If so, might I respectfully suggest something more like this (http://home.woh.rr.com/drimages/hosted/kristi-gleason/2003/LOTR-cake.jpg) with the message suitably altAred for the occasion. (Wish I'd been invited to Ralph's party.)

Could be the cheapest wedding reception ever.. lol -literally a wedding breakfast...

I am anxious that if you aren't careful it could rival the long expected nuptials of one of my dearest friends. I bought so many clothes justified by the promise that it would be next spring next autumn..... Nothing wrong with the relationship - I think they are so secure that legalising it hasn''t been a priority.. but house moves, courses, job changes, IVF and subsequent birth of twins all have pushed it back. Now she thinks it may be next year to coincide with her fortieth birthday. She bought her dress in about 1998 .........
