I'm wasn't sure where to post this, but this is a neat site about building your own hobbit hole. I'm not kidding.

Wow, is this another form of movie merchandising? :D
Actually, it isn't such a weird idea. Not just hobbits, but Alice, too, fell down a rabbit hole. Pioneers to the Canadian prairies often lived their first winter in a hole carved out of a hill or dug into the earth. I would imagine the hobbit holes would have been a primary defense against the Fell Winter in the long ago days. Mount Doom's heat spread all kinds of ways! ;)

There are a few already in the UK, including one luxurious one in Yorkshire that was built in the 70's. This one bears more than a passing resemblance to Bag End (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/villages/nettleton_underground_house.shtml) and there is even an organisation (http://www.besa-uk.org/intro.html) devoted to 'earth sheltered housing'. It might look daft but it's very 'green'. :)

That is awsome!!!
My friend Megan and I were planning on making one when I turn 40, (Something to do since I'll turn 40 first...). After we had established careers and such. We don't know where to put it though, maybe we'll keep it here in NW Washington. Thanks for the link, it will really help!
