I hope none minds me sticking Hop into the ongoing storyline (with the wolves) i didn't know wether to plunge right in or ignore it, in the end i decided it'd be unlikely he'd not hear.

TheGreatElvenWarrior,

My last post in the Golden Perch thread might have a possible solution to getting your pony unhitched and stabled. I'm not trying to interfere with your story or anything, but I noticed our characters both have ponies that need to be stabled.

Thanks!:)

Dunwen, Dick has addressed Peri.

TheGreatElvenWarrior, in my post I made up the conversation between Dick, Lilly, and Ruby that you described in passing in one of your older posts. I hope it is appropriate. If you want anything changed, just let me know.

Forest Elf and Sallkid, I have not gotten around to dealing with the dwarves. I don't know quite what to do. Give me time and either I'll figure something out with one of my characters, or someone else will step in. Sorry.

Am I completely caught up? No...not quite...Morm and Tevildo, I'll try to post with the kiddeos sometime. If I'm not mistaken, though, Morm could post before me.

If you feel the need to talk to my characters if my characters talk to yours then it's perfectly fine, actually I was worried that I could do what I did. But I thought it was fine.

Hey, Tabby -- I think there may be a little confusion about rooms? Your last post put your character in Peri's room, but she hasn't gotten one yet. (I'm so confused. But really, this is nothing new...I'm easily confused. :D )

Perhaps you should wait until later - when she actually takes her character into the room. Perhaps Ruby (that is the young girls name, right?) could try this sneakiness when Peri is actually in there sleeping...or something...I don't know. Another option would be for Dunwen to move Peri into her room, have her settle down there, and then come back out to the common room, so Ruby has a chance to do something? You two could figure it out here or by PM if you wanted to, or you could just play it by ear and see what happens.

This is all very complicated. What do I do to join? Am I only supposed to post in the Golden Perch thread? May I create an elf? Just general questions like that.

Folwren
09-27-2007, 05:57 PM
Dear Gwathgor,

Thanks for writing and posting your questions. A lot of your questions can be answered by reading the thread SHIRE RULES: The Red Book of Westmarch (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=10581). Your other questions will be answered by reading the first few posts of this thread (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=12878). I would advise reading both things, but for now, I'll answer your questions as best I can.

For now, you can only post in the Golden Perch Inn thread and this Discussion thread. After you post here a couple times, I believe you may join an RPG, as soon as a new one starts.

You may introduce an elf.

Each player in the Golden Perch needs to submit a brief Character Description form. It can be submitted at the same time as you make your first post to the Inn Thread.

Posts for characters who do not have a Character Description put on the Golden Perch Discussion Thread will be sent back to their writers. You may of course repost once your character’s description is on board.

Please use the following form.

~*~

NAME:

AGE:

RACE: (Only those character types listed by the Innkeeper will be acceptable: Hobbits, Men, Elves, or Dwarves. NO Orcs; Easterlings, Southrons, and any other men of an evil race; NO Animals - as main characters; or Any other creature or persons not mentioned in 'Types of characters allowed' No half-Elven characters. No mixed-type characters. No super-heroes. No assassins. No one all powerful, martial arts proficient, or having any magical traits. Just regular characters with normal abilities for their races only)

GENDER:

WEAPONS: (No magical, super-hero, mithril weapons. Just good solid Middle-earth weapons and armor only that is appropriate to the race of the character and the time period. Hobbits, for example, do not have swords or armor)

APPEARANCE:

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: (No half-Elven characters. No mixed-type characters. No super-heroes. No assassins. No one all powerful, martial arts proficient, or having any magical traits. Just regular characters with normal abilities for their races only)

Hope that helps! If you have any further questions, you can ask them here or PM me or piosenniel.

Gwathagor
09-27-2007, 10:21 PM
NAME: Gwathagor (this is what he is called, but it is not his given name)

AGE: Born in Doriath in 502, near the end of First Age. This makes him 6485 years old.

RACE: Sindarin elf

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: Elven longsword, great bow (which he keeps unstrung), has been known to wield an ax.

APPEARANCE: Tall, large frame, grim, very dark brown hair, blue eyes

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Stoic, with bitter tendencies. Very high ideals. Does not befriend others often or easily, but is exceptionally loyal to those he has. Wanderer. Fights ferociously, and kills swiftly and without remorse. His sadness and sobriety has over many years produced some wisdom. Well-developed and intelligent sense of humor. Refined and intellectual tastes, despite his worn and sometimes tattered appearance. Often possessed by a great fury while in battle, before which nothing can stand. Otherwise generally remains calm and in possession of his common sense and prudence. Slow to act and very deliberate until he makes a decision, at which point he pursues his chosen direction doggedly and ruthlessly. Solitary. Intuitive. Strong us-them ethics, but broad-minded and thorough appreciation for both sides of any matter. Straightforward and firm belief in right and wrong, but deep understanding of how difficult it can be to determine what is right in any given situation. Is at heart a swashbuckling, dramatic, and gallant knight errant, but intentionally hides it beneath a grim exterior. Taciturn. Low self-confidence. Walking bundle of contradictions.

HISTORY: Has wandered for many years. Native of Menegroth. Rumored to once have had the love of a very fair elf maiden. It is unknown what became of her, whether she died, or sailed west, or for what reason they became estranged. He lived briefly at the Mouths of the Sirion after the Sack of Menegroth, and resisted the Sons of Feanor when they attacked the settlement there. Otherwise, he participated very little in the events of the First Age, apart from the War of the Wrath of the Valar. In the ensuing years, he wandered much, often traveling very far into the North, becoming hardened to the cold. As a rule, he avoided (and still does, in fact) journeying South, as he dislikes warmer temperatures. Of all places in Middle-earth, he favors northern Eriador. The rest of his history is fairly typical of a roving warrior of the second and third ages: he goes places and kills things.

It looks good, Gwathagor. It is evening at the inn now. You may post your elf's entrance whenever.

I'm hoping that before too terribly long I will move to the next Day, so if you want, you could wait for your elf to enter in the morning... But if you decide to bring him in this evening, I will have no problem with prolonging the night. :)

Folwren
10-01-2007, 06:18 PM
Well, I'm not sure. If you killed a wolf (as your post nearly indicated, but didn't make entirely clear), it was probably the one keeping Forest Elf's elf and a hobbit in the trees, so perhaps those characters could find you. Otherwise, we can wait until morning.

-- Folwren

Gwathagor
10-01-2007, 06:57 PM
I'm not entirely sure what happened, actually. I don't think he killed it, and I don't think it was an ordinary wolf. It may have been a kind of lesser werewolf, a nasty bad wolf-spirit, or something like that, which is why it disappeared when the clouds covered the moon. Regardless of exactly what it is, it's probably behind the larger wolf problem in the East Farthing. Sort of an arch-wolf-beast, and the other wolves are his minions...hmmm.

Folwren
10-02-2007, 07:54 AM
What if this elf made it possible for Forest Elf's character and Sallkid's hobbit to escape? I think that would be best - even if it wasn't an entirely ordinary wolf.

I'd really appreciate it if these wolves were driven from Stock, though. It's not exactly bookish for them to be invading the Shire.

All right, I would like to introduce my character to the Inn:

NAME: Rorimac (Rory) Pincup-Brandybuck (for the explanation of this unusual connection see below)

AGE: 43

RACE: Hobbit

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: none

APPEARANCE: Tall (for a hobbit), very light brown hair and blue eyes. Wears always clean white shirt (thanks to his wife) and leather breeches when he is on his journey, along with a straw hat and a red scarf around his neck. His pony, Buttercup, is sorrel-coloured middle-aged pony.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Hand-minded and capable to quickly learn. Is afraid of water and cannot swim, despite his family's roots. He also does not like animals much, except for his pony who had been his companion for several years. Very curious and quick-witted, especially when it comes to rumors. Also very loud and talkative, always voicing his opinions and commenting current events. He considers himself very clever and his own advices good for everyone. This has a downside, as he lacks the empathy to understand those who are around him.

HISTORY: His parents lived in Pincup where they moved after their marriage, but the family still maintains connection with their Buckland relatives. His father is a carpenter of great renown, at least among the dwellers of Pincup. Rorimac had always great interest in the local events, listened to all the gossip and he knows practically everyone in the village. When he was younger, he helped his father in the carpenter job; later, he started to work as carter with his friend Andy Hornblower. Few years ago he married Poppy Brockhouse, his friend's brother-in-law's sister. They are expecting their first child now. Recently, Rory was appointed to deliver a set of knives made by Mr. Banks at Pincup to Bucklebury, so he decided to connect his job with a visit of his relatives.

Tell me when I am allowed to post in the Inn itself. (Concerning my entering scene, I would probably like to appear at the Inn itself, or could meet the others in the forest, though I would like to avoid any personal contact with the wolves...)

Folwren
10-19-2007, 02:26 PM
You can post in the inn now, my dear fellow. I'm glad you've come. I don't think Dick has followed the elf quite so quickly as the said elf would have liked (Dick's a hobbit, and hobbit's aren't fighting folk, you know), so he'll be there to meet your character, likely.

Wow! You certainly have a quite a few good writers in this blog.

Groin Redbeard
11-08-2007, 08:30 AM
NAME: Groin Redbeard

AGE: 36 (still very young)

RACE: Dwarf

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: One right handed battle axe, which he keeps by his side at all times.

APPEARANCE: Stands around 4'5ft tall, and has a stocky build. He has a long red beard down to his chest. He wears a brown woolen shirt under his decorated leather armor, and wears the helmet, that his father gave to him.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Like most Dwarves, Groin is strong headed and strong willed. He is slow to anger, but can carry a grudge. He adores children.
Groin relies on his strength more than anything else, something which, sometimes, gets him into trouble. He is not afraid to fight or argue for what he believes.

HISTORY: Groin was born in the Dwarven colony of the Iron Hills, near Esgoroth. While groing up he idolized his father, and was broken hearted when a Warg attacked and crushed his dad when Groin was twenty-two. He cared for his mother until she remarried, at the age of ninety-six. He set out from the Dwarven colony when he was at the ripe age of thirty-one. He slowly traveled westward, in hopes of one day meeting his childhood friend Grioger, who moved to the Blue Mountains to live with his uncle.
Grion fell in love with the Eraidor countryside, and plans to, one day, settle down here.

Sorry that I didn't bother to read the rules before I posted. If you like you can take it off and I can enter the way you guys want me to.:)

Now folks, my character is more or less on the leave, but anyone feel free to stop him if you wish. Either you, Groin, might want to say something else to him, or Gwathagor, if your elf awakens from his letargy, he can intervene and warn Rory that it's not as safe around as he thinks. He's going to depart whatever the case, but you may delay him and accompany him at least part of the way and in connection with this go and get rid of some remaining wolves. But it's up to you, I'm saying this only that you don't get bound by his leaving. If you want, you may still make some contact with him, otherwise, he simply leaves.

Here I go... I hope it's acceptable :)

NAME: Ethelgar Derathol

AGE: 27

RACE: Man

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: regular, worn, one-handed sword he received from his grandfather. Ethelgar values it very much and calls it by its name, Falconbeak (probably given after an unusual deformation the sword has on its tip). Despite that, people tend to think it was bought in the nearest blacksmith.

APPEARANCE: Dark hair and white skin, average height for a man, strong arms. He has a small but visible scar in the left side of his face and an ugly, short beard he insists maintaining. Always wears a brown coat.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Thinks he's a great, noble man, heir of a long forgotten family tradition, and sometimes forgets his parents were just peasants. Ethelgar is better than average with his sword, but tends to think he’s better than he actually is. Loyal to his friends, even the ones he just met, and takes that very seriously. Sometimes gets afraid in dangerous situations, but he will threat to kill anyone who mentions that.

HISTORY: Ethelgar was born near Underharrow, south of Edoras. His parents were simple people, living humbly from the manual labor in the fields. Ethelgar never gave them much attention, using all his free time talking to his grandparent Heredron, father of his father. The old man loved to tell Ethelgar how his ancestors were once important, famous and glorious, knights of Rohan’s King Personal Guard – but never mentioned why or how all this tradition was lost, and the boy never asked. Ethelgar’s parents told him that all those stories were just an old man’s delusional thoughts, but he didn’t listen to them, and kept dreaming about himself with all that importance, fame and glory.

One day Heredron passed away from his old age, and left Falconbeak to his grandson. The boy was 17 at that time, and with the sword in his hand, left his house in the search for adventures. And an adventure he found sooner than expected, being beaten badly by a group of thieves in a forest only some miles away from his parents’ house. Ethelgar fought them bravely, but there were three of them and soon he was overwhelmed. When all hope was about to be lost, a group of woodsmen heard the sounds of the battle and ran for the rescue, axes blazing and heads rolling. Ethelgar survived with a scar on his face and a broken spirit: he felt he was not ready for the fame, glory and importance. So he started living with the woodsmen that had saved him, working and training, dreaming one day he could walk Arda with Falconbeak once again. And now, ten years after, he thinks his time has come.

Hey Sephiroth,
I liked your post in the Golden Perch Inn, keep it up.:)

Hiya, everyone. I may be back in the land of the writing, but I'm not entirely sure...

I've skimmed through most of the new posts (lol, I've been keeping really bad tabs on the game thread recently) and may post shortly.

Everything, so far as I saw, looks good. However, there is one thing I'd like to mention - so long as my character is concerned, I'd really appreciate it if you left his playing to me. I'm not going to ask anyone to change any posts or anything, but hence forward, if you have business with the innkeeper, have your character call him or catch his attention and I'll post for him.

But don't worry - pretty soon I'll put him into action myself and you won't have to be concerned about it.

No bit problem, Sephiroth. lol! I still remember the first game I played... "One thing only," my fellow player said to me, "Don't mess with my character, please." He was really rather strict about it and I'll never forget for as long as I role play. :smokin:

Here is my charater description. It's only short, didnt want to go to crazy, just want to ease myself back in!

NAME: Alenia

AGE: 20

RACE: Man

GENDER: Female

WEAPONS: She is not proficient with any weapons. The only sort weapon she carries is a small knife usually used for the cutting and chopping of herbs.

APPEARANCE: Her dark brown hair falls just below the shoulder blades and has a natural wave to it. She has brown eyes speckled with green and has clean, soft ivory skin. Many consider her to be beautiful but she is always quick to deny this not wanting ti draw atention to herself. She has and average build of a woman her age and is around 5’5’’ in height. Usually wears some kind of corseted top (long sleeves) with trousers, traveling boots and a cloak. She always carries a small leather bag that is worn across one shoulder and hung down by her opposite hip, as well as a traveling pack.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: She appears to be quite cold and distant when first meeting new people but soon warms when she thinks they are genuine. She is not shy, just vigilant and she will speak up when she feels she is being taken advantage of. She is knowledgeable in herbal medicine and sees the land as a treasure trove of varied medicines. However, is young and inevitably naïve when it comes to dealing with people she is not used to and sometime comes across as rude and abrupt but she has no intention to insult anyone.

HISTORY: She does not know her parents. They died of an illness that wiped out all of her village when she way only three. A traveling apothecary who came to the village too late to save anyone found her and took her with him amazed that he had survived. After several years she became his apprentice and dove into her studies. Now a fully fledged apothecary she has decided to travel hoping to find something she has been missing in her life.

Well, I first wanted to apologize for posting before I read all the rules. I'm used to the usual RP sites where people just go and don't read anything. I'm not going to be able to post my character fully tonight, but a small description of her is on the Inn. And I'm sorry for some of my spelling and grammer. I'm pretty good at spelling and grammer, but not perfect yet. I'm jsut happy I finally joined this site.

I'd also like to request that if at all possible, I could have my post at the Inn deleted or if not deleted then just ignored. I'm going to create a new character because that one is very old and i've used it way too much. I want a fresh start.

Iras Sabir

NAME: Ira Bledri

AGE: 19

RACE: Man

GENDER: Female

WEAPONS: A long sword. It's in a worn leather sheath, she keeps the blade sharpened and polished. It belonged to her brother, one that had been used in many battles. She believes that it is good luck.

APPEARANCE: She's about 5'7", 140 lbs. She had long dark brown that she usually wears in a braid. She favors long tunics with brown belts and a pair of thick leather boots. She wears dresses only on special occasions.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: She is very serious. She is also almost painfully shy, but once she opens up she's usually silly and fun to be around. While she makes friends rather slowly, once she is friends with someone she is loyal almost to a fault. Her main weakness is her fear of harm. She has trouble forcing herself into a situation where she might get hurt. Her loyalty might be considered another fault. Once friends with someone she can be hurt very easily. She is very good with her longsword, it being one of the only weapons she's trained with. She calls her sword Bloodbiter. It was her eldest brother's name for it, and it was given to her after his death.

HISTORY: She is the youngest of four, all of them older brothers. Only one is still alive. Her brother Mesanune was killed at the same time as his twin Dae. They were killed together on a battlefield. Kale is her only brother left alive. He is a healer and lives with the Mirkwood elves, learning from them. Neither of her parents are still alive. She doesn't speak much about her family, it really is a sore spot with her, mainly because of her brothers. She was close with the two that died, in fact they were the ones who trained her. She wanders now, living almost as a Ranger, but never quite commiting. Her horse has been with her since she was 14, a Rohan breed.

One other thing that i'd like to put down, is that if anyone needed anyone for any type of RP, I can play a male or female character. I've played humans and elves, but i'm best at humans. If someone taught me I could do almost any other race.

Folwren
01-25-2008, 03:20 PM
Hi, Eönwë! Welcome! I'm glad you've asked. We need something or someone new to stir things up around here....

Joining is pretty simple. If you are not already acquainted with the rules, then it may be good to read this (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=10581). After learning the rules on that thread, read the first few posts by Pio at the beginning of this thread, here (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=12878). Once you've figured out what kind of character you can make, create a character description/bio, using the form I will copy and paste below.

After you submit that to this thread, I will read it and more than likely give you the thumbs up and then you can proceed to introduce your character to the game thread (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=12876).

And if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to send a PM to me, or to Piosenniel. :)

Character Description Form for the Inn

Each player in the Golden Perch will need to submit a brief Character Description form to the Inn’s Discussion Thread. It can be submitted at the same time as you make your first post to the Inn Thread.

Posts for characters who do not have a Character Description put on the Golden Perch Discussion Thread will be sent back to their writers. You may of course repost once your character’s description is on board.

Please use the following form.

Oh! Oh, Eonwe, that would be somehow very sad. I am so sorry I haven't written since coming home - you can't imagine what life's been like for me. (Well, maybe you can...)

We actually need more hobbits, so can I ask you not necessarily to replace this character, just create a second one? Or could you not possibly work with two characters? Just wondering. With the way the inn moves so slowly, I doubt not that you'd find time to post now and again for two characters.

And I'm sorry I didn't make it more clear - you are perfectly able, capable, and permitted to post whenever you like in the inn now.

I will attempt to write a post today.

NAME: Haves Gavomer

AGE: 24

RACE: Men

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: Two common throwing knives, one attached to each side, as well as a longsword with simple green-coloured carvings attached to a belt.

APPEARANCE: Fair-skinned, light wavy brown hair of medium length, averagely built, and tall. Wears dark, shabby clothes

PERSONAL STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Haves refrains from attracting extensive attention to himself, but is in no way confined, and is quite happy to share details about himself whilst still concealing motives or details he does not characterize as being on a need-to-know basis. Is very selective of who he befriends, and is often untrustworthy of anybody who he believes to be too needy or persistent. Haves hates to be ignorant about almost anything, and as a result he can be overly curious.

HISTORY: Haves' business in Stock translates to a need to feel more connected with the inter-relations of the wider world. He has lived on his family's isolated farm for his whole life and his willingness to be informed of the world he lives in consumes him.

Hello! Hopefully this is what I'm supposed to be submitting here for my new character.

NAME: Jims Barleycorn

AGE: 26

RACE: human

GENDER: male

WEAPONS: not truly intended as weapons but useful if needed, Jims carries a sharp hunting knife, a shorter utility/eating knife, and a stout walking stick with a weighted knob at the head

APPEARANCE: Tall, say around 6”1”, slim but muscular/wiry, short, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, tanned/weathered skin, wears simple, well worn but neat and clean clothes of linen and wool: trousers, shirt, vest, cloak. Leather boots.

PERSONAL STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Jims is quiet and keeps his own counsel for the most part. Slow to speak his mind, strangers often mistake his natural caution for stupidity. However, he has a good head on his shoulders and a good business sense, as compared to his much brasher older brother, Jakes, who tends to make impulsive and often imprudent decisions. This is why their father has sent Jims on this mission and not Jakes. Jims is prone to taking violent dislikes to those who cross him, however, to the point of letting loose with a flying fist in the direction of said person’s face.

HISTORY: Jims is the second oldest son of an innkeeper in Bree. His father’s inn is in a seedier part of that town and not exceptionally prosperous. Lately Jims’ father has been struggling a bit financially and has thought to import some of the fine ale brewed in Stock to lure a better clientele to his inn. Jims has been send to Stock to make inquiries about the possibilities.

If more is needed could someone let me know please?

Thanks!

Complain, by all means! I'm no moderator and am just as bound to the rules as the rest of you...only, I'm more acquainted with them, which makes it all the worse. I added flesh to others' bones, knowing full jolly well that you hadn't said that your character was doing anything of the sort of what we were making him do...So, if you want anything changed with anything about your character, you have every right to ask us to change it. Folwren, is there any way to send a PM just by clicking on a name or is there an icon or what???

Shaggydog, in order to send someone a PM, you have to have the exact name, accents, umlauts (spelling!), and all. There should be a way to send a PM by just clicking on a name and it giving you an option, but since the site has been upgraded, that feature has not been working as well. I often click on the name with my right button on my mouse, select 'Open in new window' and it will open the user's profile. There, somewhere on the left and scrolling down a little, you'll see the option for sending a PM. Otherwise, just copy and paste Eönwë's name into your PM and send it that way.

Sorry. We need to contact the real mods of the forum and ask them to see if it can't be fixed. :)

By the way, Gwathagor, your character is in in the midst of something, apparently. How'd that happen? He sat there, staring at nothing, and minding his own business, and he still offended somebody. Good grief, man, you've got to keep better tabs on your characters. ;)

Gwathagor, your character is in in the midst of something, apparently. How'd that happen? He sat there, staring at nothing, and minding his own business, and he still offended somebody.

He was gazing stupidely in my characters direction! If that isn't enought to get someone mad I don't know what is. Anyway, I'm glad that are characters are active once again.

lol! I'm hoping the wolves will simply scamper off and not trouble Stock ever again...but that's the Hobbit side of me talking. If you want to kill the wolves, you're going to have find others to help you, becasue I don't have any characters who can/will lend a hand. The new men who just walked in will be able to help, me thinks.

And Groin, that's fine. It's been a lot of fun having you here. You're not leaving the Downs Roleplaying section altogether, though, are you? We need players who are good and who stick around!!!!!

Folwren, you are right about the availability at least of Jims. Gwathagor and Eonwe, I will be heading out to the stables soon and please feel free to join in what I (hopefully) get started there re wolf hunting.

Folwren, what are the limits of action occuring outside the immediate environs of the inn? Would any wolf hunting or 'slaying' have to take place close to the inn? I know in general this thread is for non-violent activities centering on the GP, correct?

BTW, who started the wolf thing anyway and is he/she still around? Does anyone know why the wolves are around???

Gwathagor
03-26-2008, 08:53 PM
It was Forest Elf that started the wolf thing. Her character was named Gable, and she hasn't been around for months.

Folwren
03-27-2008, 07:53 AM
I think the wolves were done simply so that something could happen. I encourage people now to deal with the wolves in a group, preferably with each character having a player behind it. I like how you three seem to be planning to do that. :D The purpose of this RPG is to give people an opportunity to learn how to interact and play along with other people's characters.

As for slaying the wolves...it can be done away from the inn. If it is not in the immediate surroundings of the Perch, then, in the Title line of your post, write "Away - Jims - Killing Wolves Somewhere in Stock" maybe. Something like that, I guess. Pio has it outlined here (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=470527&postcount=9). Don't make it too terribly gory - I haven't read anything unacceptable here so far, I don't think.

But you are correct - this is (hopefully) for more non-violent stuff happening in or near the Perch. Of course, conflict is alwasy very good, so I expect and can actually hope for some little trouble among the characters, if only to make things interesting. ;)

Have fun, gents. I'll try to keep up on the posts in the game thread.

I absolutely want to finish with the wolves before I move on to Scarburg. It oughtn't to take very long, as the wolves aren't far off. We'll run out, track them for a post or two, then have a showdown in which we kill all the wolves, and Gwathagor will disappear into the night. Then we can go our separate ways.

Girl in the Grass

NAME: Mirabell Took

AGE: 25

RACE: Hobbit

GENDER: Female

WEAPONS: Wit?

APPEARANCE: Average height (for a hobbit), wavy golden hair. Blue eyes, green dress and shawl.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Very kind, but a little shy. Sometimes she will speak up to talk to strangers, if it seems important, but usually she keeps to herself. Once she gets to know and like you, she will always be joking and merry. However, if she catches you needlessly hurting an animal, or something similar, she will come out of her shell like a fireball.

HISTORY: Mirabell was born and raised in Tuckborough. She has traveled to Stock to pay her eccentric aunt a visit, but she has to stay at the Golden Perch (due to her aunt wanting to keep the guest room tidy "in case someone drops by").

Hey all! Putting up a post tonight, hopefully I won't interefere with the wolf dilemma.

Alright, I hope that moved things along a bit. Sorry to be so long in posting Gwathagor. I'm definitely leaving the bulk of the wolf fighting up to your character. Eonwe can take on as many as he likes, but I visualize Jims maybe taking on like one wolf . . . a little one . . . old and toothless if possible :D

Forest Elf, sorry I could not figure out a way to work in your char running past our group laughing hysterically  Seeing as she didn't mention seeing them, I thought I'd just assume she maybe came towards the inn from a direction where she wouldn't necessarily be noted by the fearless wolf hunters  I think we're trying to wrap up the wolf thing so I didn't want to prolong things too much.

Girl in the grass, ditto pretty much for what I said to Forest Elf. I just kind of recapped what you wrote and didn't have anyone try to question your char about why she was in such a hurry.

----------------------------------------------------------------

NAME: Miribelle Rushybanks

AGE: A respectable 65 or so

RACE: Hobbit, mostly of the Fallohide strain

GENDER: Female

WEAPONS: She carries a rather large carpetbag (http://www.artisanstreet.com/miva/graphics/00000001/MET273.jpg) she made herself - one with a variety of necessary objects, large and small, tucked tightly within. ‘One never knows when a mathom might be needed!’ is her thought It could hardly be called a weapon, but were she to swing at someone and her bag connect soundly, the poor ‘someone’ might feel as if they had the stuffing quite thoroughly knocked out of them.

APPEARANCE: Tall and slender, carries herself with a certain authority. Fair skin, pale blue eyes, graying honey blond curls held back from her face with a dark blue and green striped gross-grain ribbon. Favors dark green skirts with a navy vest and crisp white blouse beneath.

PERSONALITY: Reserved; appreciates good manners and all those sorts of things that make easy a social interaction. Respectful of others; she expects the best of others and for the most part is not let down. Has a good sense of humor, loves a good joke or even the good-natured prank. She’s a gentle-lady Hobbit with sure sense of herself, of her expectations, her strengths, and of course her short comings.

HISTORY: She is a spinster, both by the fact she has never married and because her life long occupation has been centered about the spinning of wool and the weaving of fabrics. Her fabrics are much prized by the local community of Stock.

She has a little sandy colored, brown eyed pony named Cookie.

She ran a Dame School for many years for the neighboring children. But these later years she has devoted herself fully to her spinning and weaving and has opened a small fabric shop in the village where she offers for sale or barter both her fabrics and those of other weavers in the community.

So, a new day has dawned at the Inn - HERE (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=559017&postcount=641) :)

Here's the scene I've set up, my fellow Perch Players -

Rowan and Prim have straggled out of bed much later than is usual. And on arising have discovered that Cook is nowhere to be found.

Prim's done a quick search of the obvious places, nothing thorough by any means, and has drawn the conclusion Cook may not be gone, she may have been kidnapped. It's a wild guess on her part. but as good as any.

Here's the back story to this plot twist:

Firefoot, who was playing the Cook (Celandine "Cela" Brandybuck) is leaving the Perch RPG. Another player will come in after a bit to take on that position at the Inn. (I'm working with this player on getting Cela out of the inn, and setting it up for the new Cook writer to come in)

Firefoot has given us free rein to exit her character as we like.

So - let's play around with this on the RPG thread. Find clues, come up with theories, perhaps even find Cook actually kidnapped and dead at the hands of some sinsister group. Or then again she may have simply run off without telling anyone anything because we discover some horrid secret in her past . . .

How does this all sound?

I earlier mentioned a letter (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=558714&postcount=630) Cook had received from the postman (I named him Hugh - no bio done for him). I have no idea what the letter might have said - other than it upset Cook quite a bit.

Anyway - carry on!! :-)

Hurrah!!! We're moving again! I'll try to get something up a little later today.

Will's hungry; he needs a bit of breakfast first :p Then maybe he can go find Hugh the postman and bring him back to see what he can add about the letter.

Maybe I can work up a little bio for Hugh and play him. How's that sound?

There, Arry --- now will has a portable breakfast of sorts and can go on his way. :p

Lilly --- sounds good if you could write for Hugh.

Here's my little bio for Hugh, the postman:

NAME: Hugh Mossytoes

AGE: 61

RACE: Hobbit; Harfoot

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: Carries a sling for birds and conies and is a fair shot

APPEARANCE: Curly brown hair kept close cropped, tanned features, brown eyes; sturdy breeches, plain spun shirt, hooded cape as needed for the weather. A large stained leather mail sack which he wears across his chest or ties to his pony, Jolly. Loves to smoke and eat.

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: A cheerful countenance, loves to sing and whistle as he walks along. A very good listener. Picks up all sorts of tales and bits of news and gossip as he travels about his mail route. And, he loves to share these new learned tidbits with his customers. Has been known to embroider upon the originals quite freely at times, but will laughingly admit his editing if challenged.

HISTORY: Born and raised just outside the village of Stock, a little ways to the north. Inherited the postal route for that little section of the Westfarthing from his Uncle Hal. Never married.

so we will be back very soon - I just need to decide how we have spent our lost time. I have read through quickly and it seems that we have only lost a day since we got stuck in dead end conversations on page 11 (ca post 430-something). Is that possible?

I must admit that I have no idea of where the timeline is for the Inn. And probably should apologise, since I most likely pushed it ahead a fair number of days with the return of my character to the Inn from some business in Bree in this post (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=558898&postcount=632) .

My bad!

Sorry, I don't quite know "when" we are, either. Only that it's morning at the Inn.

Undómë - I have Rowan and Prim making their way out of the common room. Alright?

Granny Greenhill is following along to see what they're up to. :D

Don't worry I can be non-time specific. Given that it is so long ago and hardly any of those we interracted with still around it feels it should be longer. The young truants will have been apprehended by their aunt (the original RPG character Mithalwen, whose namesake has somehow taken over my life!!!), who will no doubt be rivalling Wooster's Aunt Agatha and giving them such a miserable time that time will have passed very slowly for them in deed.:D

Anyone want to apprehend the fleeing Hobbit in my recent post (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=563082&postcount=656)?

I've no idea if the fellow knows anything or not. If someone wants to make up a clue Mungo might give - go for it. We can take it from there.

Hmmm, well........

I think we've decided that time has moved forward a bit. It was rather vague, but enough to get us past the whole episode with the wolves.

At the top of the present page on the Inn game thread it's mid morning. Rowan and Prim got up late and discovered Cook is missing - vanished. Breakfast was more or less thrown together and served buffet style in the common room. Everyone at the Inn has been throwing out ideas about what might have happened to Cook. Most of which have no basis in reality.

Granny Greenhill (my character) has come to the Inn - she had the Shiriff sent for and suggested Will be sent to fetch back Hugh, the postman, since Rowan recalled that she'd seen Cook reading a fat letter Hugh delivered the previous day and Cook seemed to have reacted badly to what was in the letter.

So, Will's off to find Hugh (who, it's been decided, will most likely be found at Gardenia's Boffin's place northwest of Stock).

Hithadan, the ranger, has spied a suspicious Hobbit (Mungo Brandybuck) trying to sneak out of the Inn and calls for him to be held. Granny lays the fellow low and some unidentified fellows in the Inn drag him up to face the shiriff and the ranger.

None of us players know whether or not Mungo knows anything of importance, but someone can maybe make up something he's seen or heard on his nefarious nocturnal dealings on the night Cook disappeared. Whatever we find out from him, we can head off in that direction with the game.

Rowan and Prim have gone off to Cook's room to see if they can find any sort of clue.

There is also an Elf, Tavaro, who couldn't sleep during the night and was out wandering about. Maybe he will bring up something he recalls while he was out walking.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the Innkeeper. So I suppose you can just jump in as you want once you've read through the posts.

So, who's here: Envinyatar (Hithadan); Arry (Will); Undome (Rowan and Prim, now a sort of NPC); Lilly (Gardenia Boffin, Hugh Mossytoes the postman); Tam Lin (Tavaro the elf); Tiffany Aching (Miribelle Rushybanks); & me (Granny Greenhill). The Shiriff, Rusty Smallburrow (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=492617&postcount=235), is a character I think Pio said we could all use now as long we make ourselves familiar with his original bio.

And, oh yes, I think Mithalwen has said she and Kath are going to pop back in at some point.

Hope that helps!

Yes I will return shortly if I survive tomorrow - Iwas going to post last night but was constantly distracted and tomorrow I am doing a charity sea swim and may well be dead given my inadequate preparation and poor weather and consequent low water temperature... :( So DVWP you will get our return on Monday.

Thanks so much for the indepth catching up post, Rose.

No one's playing the questionable Mungo? Who introduced him? Should I pick him up and play him, or is he simply a NPC for everyone who wishes?

With your outline, I'll read quickly through the posts and maybe post this weekend.

I'll be looking forward to your returning, Mith. Hope the swimming goes well. I've swam in cold water before. It can be fun, depending on if you want to prove something, or miserable, if you just want to be comfortable. Good luck.

Since my Dwarves have departed the scene, how about I pick up the character of Mungo Brandybuck?

I know that Envinyatar introduced him, primarily as a little short term plot device from what I can see. If it's alright with you Envinyatar, I'll take him on.

That sounds fine to me, Noinkling!

Looking forward to your post for him - wondering what sort of clue Mungo might reveal.

Noinkling
07-19-2008, 12:02 PM
Okay, here is the rather unsavory fellow!

---------------------------

NAME: Mungo "Hitch" Brandybuck

AGE: 58

RACE: Hobbit: Fallohide for the most part with a definite strain of Stoor

GENDER: Male

WEAPONS: 2 knives – a sharp little hunting knife, the other a more slender knife handy for filleting or quickly slitting the throats of hapless chickens, a sling with various sizes of stones in several patches; a small oaken club that hangs from a leather thong at his belt.

APPEARANCE: Short, about 2’ 9”, and very slender – wiry, much like a weasel. Blond hair which always appears rather dirty and greasy, and is usually stuffed under an old dark green checked cap. Dark brown tattered cloak worn over a much unlaundered tunic and breeches. He is a grubby looking fellow, shifty eyed. He has a slight limp in his right leg, the result of an old broken ankle, gotten in a fall from a tree he was trying to hide out in - his noticeable gait has earned him the nickname "Hitch".

PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Mungo is the sort of fellow who always looks out for himself first. He figures most others are somehow out to “get” him – cheat him or blame him for something. And to be honest he is often to blame for many of the small burglaries about the area – poaching fish and small game from others’ traps, chicken and egg stealing, the occasional small pig, honey, pies, vegetables, mushrooms, whatever comes to his attention and need. He shares the characteristics common to many Hobbits: long skillful fingers; excellent hearing and sharp eyesight; the ability to disappear swiftly and silently. Mungo is not a neat fellow; he rarely bathes or washes his clothes. Needless to say he is fairly aromatic.

He is not a likeable fellow, but is tolerated because he’s related to the Brandybucks through his father’s side of the family.

HISTORY: His family was respectable enough – owned a small holding and a modest dwelling. His father worked hard with his sheep and pigs; his mother took care of the family and supplemented their wellbeing with her large vegetable garden, her chickens, and her bee hives. He is the middle son of five boys. His brothers have all gone on to be respectable little farmers with nice families. Mungo’s choices took him in the opposite direction. He couldn’t understand why someone would want to work so hard at their livelihood when most of life’s needs were handy for the taking if only one knew where to look. He likes living rough for the most part; holes up where he can for the winter months. Travels a lot; is somewhat fonder of the area around Bree where the Big Folk tend to mind their own business and not dig into his; and where he can take the occasional odd job when he needs to lie low from his “other” means of livelihood.

Well I finished - despite an agonising bout of cramp about a quarter mile or so from home. Fortunately I had drifted back into my depth and was able to flex my foot against the bottom til it eased else I would have had to give in. For once it was useful being tall. All the serious triathlete types wore wetsuits but having been born and raised within sound of the sea and having learnt to swim in it that seems to be cheating to me... but then I remember the summers being warmer when I was a child though that is probably just the effect of age on the memory!

Anyway I shall pick an opportune moment to return - don't want to disrupt the cross examination!

Hey Mith, my PM's are messing up a bit - or, more accurately, my computer is by not letting me delete any of them which means a full account which means I can't PM you back - so can we discuss in here until my dear sweet laptop decides to behave again?

Sorry Kath, I haven't had much online time this week - basically I intend to get the twins back to the point we got to before we were stymied - ie at the inn and not really talking to each other. I will fudge the time thang and have had them had under such close supervision in the time since their being recaptured (!) that they have had little opportunity or inclination to make peace.

Since you presumably won't be able to post (much?) while you are in furrin parts, I will concentrate on Mithalwen and send the twins off on separate errands which need not be actually played out so we can resume where we left off with them when you get back. Hope that will be ok.

Hey, we're moving again!!! Hurrah!!!!

So, I see Granny Greenhill has called for a search party. Would you like me to write that one's been gathered up and gone out? I have a selfish reason for this - it will take some time for Will to get the where the postman is and then for them to come back. I was hoping we could move time forward in a bit to say late afternoon. Would that be okay?

Sounds good to me, Arry.

If you write the gathering of the posse, I can move time along using Rowan and Prim. They've found something, by the way; I was just waiting for the opportune moment to bring it in.

Before time does move ahead - Folwren, do you want to jump in at all? & Mithalwen and Kath - do you want to write something, too?

& yay!!! from me, too - that we're moving once again.

Done.

Mithalwen can be noticed or ignored as suits. She appeared at the Green Dragon ages ago.

Will do a proper bio tomorrow but Mithalwen is tall and silver haired and was born in Lindon around the time the Numenoreans showed up and is the younger sister of the twins father Gilthalion. She dresses usually in grey and blue and lives at still in the old family home in Lindon.

Now v.late and v tired so will tidy for typos etc as necessary tomorrow.

Kath if you are around can you let me know if you are ok with this?

Lilly's working on a post for getting Hugh and Will back to the Inn.

So by the time she's posted, it should be late afternoon and by then the search party will be a number of hours down the road/river.

Hope that's alright with everyone!

I left the composition of the search party rather open. I don't know how far anyone wants to pursue that, or . . . ??
