Hello Everybody.

A number of us have set up a German group, aimed at Barrow Downers, on Livejournal. The aim of the journal is to help people learn German and, ultimately, have a small network of BDers blogging in German. Just, you know, for fun.

From the community site itself, "We are BarrowDowners who speak in German. Any Downer with an interest in German can join, whether you're starting to learn from scratch, know German but have got a bit rusty, speak it well but would like some practice, or are simply a native-speaker with a desire to help others and blog a little in your own tongue."

So far members are Macalaure (Native German), Rune and I (Know some but want practice) and Rikae and Diamond18 (Starting from scratch). So it's quite nice and balanced and everything.

If you're interested, the link is at the end of this sentence, though I should warn you the site now contains a mildly naughty word for "bottom"... http://community.livejournal.com/germandowns/profile. Go on, you know you want to!

I intend to learn as many naughty German words as I can. :Merisu:

Is this only for livejournal members? I'm in Germany and bilingual, so I'd be interested, but don't have a livejournal account.

You would need to set up a LiveJournal account, but that's fairly easy, and free. We would be delighted to have you.

I've got a book that would help you with that, but I can't say the title on here as it has a swear word in German on the title - but it ends with - The Real German They Didn't Teach You At School. So you can imagine how amusing it is... :smokin:

You mean we can't swear in German? Mist!

LOL @ Rikae! Another example for a very harmless word in one language that means something sompletely different in another - very reminiscent of Twain's essay on the German language and his initial delight in the harmless German preposition 'damit'!

I finally decided to begin an LJ account for the sole purpose of joining the German Downs group. Unfortunately, this took place at a rather busy time in real life, so my participation has been minimalistic so far.

Rikae, where did you come across that hilarious German answering machine message in your signature?
