It has been decided that two "neutral" locations with excellent facilities and a history of strong (and non-violent) support for football matches will host the quarterfinals- Gondolin and Rivendell. The four teams from Beleriand will go to nearby Gondolin, while the four teams either West of the sea or East of the Misty Mountains will come together in Rivendell.

Is a 2-5-3 formation legal? I know the 3-5-2 is, I am wondering about reversing it. It's at this point in the competition when non starred defense is very hard to find.

And you know Nogrod, it's clear I've been gravely under-estimating Dor-Lomin's potential all year (I didn't even have 'em making it out of group play!), so if Hithlum is defeated, I'm in trouble and the door's open. ;) I'll tell you too, I'm not so great at the NCAA March Madness that we have in the US. I usually start out of the gates really hot the 1st couple rounds, but once it gets down to 16, and the Elite 8, everything breaks down. That is when I start hoping everyone else's Tourney brackets just start getting messed up. :p

Edoras and Minas Morgul was a tough one too call, that was virtually a toss-up for me, and that hurt some people. But the real killer had to be Mirkwood's surprising win over Tuna, no one saw that one coming!

Interesting dilemma, Gwath. Hmm... you currently have 3-5-2, so if you traded one of your dead FWs (Miriel or Nerdanel) for a MF, you'd have a legal formation, or you could trade one of your dead MFs (Earendil or Glaurung) for a DF and have a legal formation.

So just work with the roster you have and you should be able to change it just fine with your two allotted trades.

Primarily to encourage diversity. If those formations were legal I figure everyone would use them to minimize defenders and maximize potential scorers. I figure if you're going to use the minimum number of defenders you shouldn't get to pick up more than one forward. Maybe we'll change it for next time, maybe not.

You know what's weird? Two of last year's semifinal teams are back, and really it's kind of like three because Hithlum and Formenos from last year kind of got mixed together. And Angband and Hithlum matched up in the playoffs last year too.

You know what's even weirder? Boromir correctly predicted the scores of 7 of the 8 teams!! :eek: The only one he had wrong was Valimar. Serious kudos, Boro. That's got to be some kind of record.

Hah. My own fault. I trusted Tal Telperien last year to the end and now I'm getting a real beating because I didn't this time... that Queen is just incredible! Just like I hoped she had been last year (well she was not bad then either)... But let's be realistic, she won't score twice in a row.

Okay. Boro and Skip both have Fëanor as their captain so to catch their fly I need to have someone else there as my captain, and just hope Fëanor mainly takes cards in the final...

Would it be Ar Pharazôn's turn to be the hero? Or will Aredhel handle it this time? Or the bronze-match? Nazgul #6, Thranduil, Scatha, Ancalagon, Thuringwethil rising on the occasion?

Or Tar-Atanamir making a shut-out once again? Or Huan finally making it in the tight spot? And Carcaroth has been just super the last rounds...

I will not change any player who is actually in the field in the finals. With only six possible point-scorers in my team that's pretty clear. (Well I could change Balrog#5 who has lately scored mainly negative points.) So my forwards are "locked".

With midfielders I could gladly go for Nazgul #6, Ar Adunakhôr or Húrin, but as Boro has them there is no point in choosing any of them. I only need to hope they are pathetic in the finals... a fool's hope. :)

But which of the other midfielders could rise to the occasion? Thuringwethil, Gwindor, Tar Ancalimôn, Fingon, Fingolfin, Bilbo...? Well they are all in the 10-point category (the ones Boro has are in the twenty-point category) but anyone could go for me as I have no current midfield at all. :(

Defenders are risky choices at this point as all the teams are good and can score so only a goal-making defender would be really worth the risk. But who would score? Tar Telperien once again? Maybe I need to go for the jackpot - a shut-out defence from Armenelos and Tar Telperien scoring... hmm... is that more likely than Gwindor making a difference (and not taking a card once more) in the bronze-match?

A shut-out goalie with six saves would be worth 8 points... But I have a playing goalie in Huan and just need to trust on him.

Well, there are different ifs... like if Aredhel assisted one goal like she did in every game but the first where she scored instead, or if Ar Pharazôn made a hat-trick (before the final he had 50% ratio of scoring one or not scoring at all) and if he was chosen as your captain... The first one is something that could be said would have been highly probable and the second one would have been far from it. :rolleyes:

I just couldn't be not mentioning that fact when I realised how "close" the contest was even if the numbers themselves would say it was a clearcut deal...


But I see what you mean and you're quite right indeed. An if is always an if - even if there are different ifs. And that's fine - well what else but fine could it be? :)

Agreed, agreed and agreed. I'm especially impressed with the reliability of all the statistics added up by tp, and how he's always spotted when rules have been broken. Sorry about the times when I wrote about players who in fact did not play for the team I was writing about by the way (and for some awkward word repetitions haha)! My excuse is being in a rush with little free time but that's not really an excuse, as I probably have as much or more of it as you guys do. Did you have an excel worksheet or something similar to help you with the stats tp? Without some software aid that work would be insane, especially in the early rounds.

Glad you all enjoyed the Boro-Blog :D Next year though I hope more of you decide to get involved in making predictions and judging talent. As I remembered it was quite a bit of fun battling Sauce (and certainly the phantom) over how a mash of super weak hobbits can defeat athletic, strong, and tall Elves in past years.

Nogrod's AKM stuff was great, and there is so much more anyone can contribute. Like power rankings, post and pre game interviews, all kinds of stuff. So, yep, I hope if tp can do it again, more can find time to get involved in the entire process. :)
