I sure hope Mr. Cumberbatch (voice of the Necromancer and Smaug) is confused. The Necromancer "in" the Battle of Five Armies? But, according to PJ's logic, and the foundation of well all three LOTR movies...Sauron should still be a giant flaming eyeball?

Completely illogical, even by PJ's storyline. But he seems to be quite sure of it. He insists that Sauron will lead the Goblin host.

Surprisingly (or not), after all the other faults of TH movies, this one makes no difference to me. It's one grain of sand among many other grains.

Actors who have not read the book should be:
1) not allowed to play in the movie
2) beaten with a bat for such answers

Come on now, I would pay to see PJ pull this off. :D

And we all probably will pay to see just that...

" I’m playing Smaug through motion-capture and voicing the Necromancer, which is a character in the Five Legions War or something which I’m meant to understand. He’s not actually in the original Hobbit. It’s something [Peter Jackson]’s taken from Lord Of The Rings that he wants to put in there."

I won't rant because, obviously, I don't know the context in which this answer was given, but it looks bad. Very bad. Flaming eyeball bad.
