View Full Version : Does Hobbit-Toss figure in anywhere?

Hi, all! Last spring I was involved in a game of D&D (yes, I know it's a little off topic and I apologize) where I played a Hobbit. I was having a drink at an inn in dwarf country, and a few of the denizens got it in their heads that it might be fun to play a nice little game of Hobbit-Toss. It's been quite a while since I've had the pleasure of diving into The Hobbit or the LOTR trilogy, and I was wondering: Does Hobbit-Toss show up anywhere in the books other than when, in The Hobbit, the goblins are taking Bilbo and the dwarves down to face the Goblin King? Thanks, all.

I don't remember "Hobbit-toss" showing up even there....where did you see it?

This is presumably a variation on Dwarf-tossing, which is (alas) considered a "sport" in some areas (of the real world, that is) - and no doubt the source of the "comedy" references in the films.

I didn't get "hobbit-toss" from any of the books. I was playing D&D with some friends, two of whom were playing as dwarfs, and I guess the DM/dwarf decided it might be fun to play "hobbit-toss" using my poor, loner halfling. Honestly, it's been at least ten years since I read the trilogy. I should read it again, shouldn't I?
