This is where the greatest, the least, and the middlest are kept. I can't explain it, so an example must do.

Example

Q: What is the brightest of stars?
A: Earendil.

So here's my question(an easy one):

Who achieved the loudest voice by a mortal man?

Who had the One Ring for the shortest period of time?

The Perky Ent
02-21-2004, 11:08 AM
Sorry for the confusion, Evisse! Now, who had it the shortest time? Would that be Deagol?

Sleepy Ranger
02-21-2004, 02:56 PM
Deagol didn't exactly have it he just pick it up.
So I'll say Samwise Gamgee he kept it only for a while in Cirith Ungol and then gave it back to Frodo. And theres Galadriel but she didn't exactly have it either.

Evisse the Blue
02-21-2004, 03:18 PM
Sorry, Sleepy, but Deagol counts as well. Please continue, Perky Ent.

The Perky Ent
02-21-2004, 04:30 PM
How many ring Bearers were there in Middle Earth...and name them!

MWA HA HA :D :D

Sleepy Ranger
02-21-2004, 04:38 PM
Sauron, Frodo, Smeagol, Bilbo, Isildur, Gandalf, Cirdan, Gil-Galad, Elrond, Galadriel, 7 Dwarves, Witch King, Khamul 7 more men.
And if you count Saruman, Finrod, Barahir, Beren, Aragorn.
So thats 32.

The Perky Ent
02-21-2004, 04:43 PM
[1]I'm counting Barahir, Saruman, Aragorn and all them
[2]You just made the same mistake you made in the last question!!!

EDIT: THIS IS MY 201TH POST!!!!!!

Sleepy Ranger
02-21-2004, 04:46 PM
Deagol and Sam weren't ring-bearers. For they had it for too short a time.

The Perky Ent
02-21-2004, 04:48 PM
Oh yeah! You're right. But your math is still wrong!

Arvedui III
02-21-2004, 09:41 PM
I think that Sam counts because in the book, Elanor says that Sam passed on to the Grey Havens, last of the Ring-Bearers. He had the ring for the whole time it took him to find Frodo in Cirith Ungol. Deagol doesn't, because he only had it for maybe a few minutes at best.

And so by my tally there are 33 ringbearers: Isildur, Sauron, Frodo, Bilbo, Smeagol, Sam, Cirdan, Gil-Galad, Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond, 7 dwarves, 9 men, Aragorn, Barahir, Beren, Finrod, Saruman, and Arwen. (Aragorn gave the ring of Barahir to her for a bit as a sign of faithfulness, but she could be ruled out along the same lines as Sam or Deagol)

The Saucepan Man
02-21-2004, 10:08 PM
The question of who qualifies as a bearer of the One Ring is a matter of some debate: To bear the One Ring (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1911&highlight=ringbearer). Please post there if you want to discuss this issue further.

As for this question, we'll have to go with whatever was in The Perky Ent's mind ...

So i'll go for an easy one

Q; Who is the oldest in Middle Earth

Thorongil
04-29-2004, 08:47 AM
Tom Bombadil?

NightKnight
04-29-2004, 09:29 AM

Thorongil has it

Thorongil
04-30-2004, 03:33 AM
Which grief was the heaviest of all?

NightKnight
04-30-2004, 03:36 AM
Melian's, when she knew that Luthien had become mortal.

Thorongil
04-30-2004, 03:37 AM
Yup.

NightKnight
04-30-2004, 03:40 AM
Who killed the most trolls (that we know of)?

Sleepy Ranger
04-30-2004, 03:43 AM
Hurin

NightKnight
04-30-2004, 03:45 AM

10 day rule! How many fain-hearted took Cair Andros?

Fingolfin II
05-29-2004, 07:52 PM
At least 1000. Aragorn started out 6000 foot soldiers and 1000 horse, but 'it was with less than six thousands that the Captains of the West came at last to challenge the Black Gate and the might of Mordor'.

The Perky Ent

http://forum.barrowdowns.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif is there any other way to put it?

Fingolfin II
05-31-2004, 01:19 AM
Cheers Perky.

Who 'went to sea in his youth'?

Sleepy Ranger
05-31-2004, 05:39 AM
Isengar Took

Fingolfin II
06-01-2004, 01:19 AM
He sure did.

10 days! New question: After the death of Sauron and Gandalf leaves Middle Earth, who or what can trace their family tree earliest? Who (or What) is it, and what are his/her (its) family members?

Thorongil
06-15-2004, 12:34 AM
Is it Eldarion? Arwen & Aragorns lines go way back.

Nilpaurion Felagund
06-15-2004, 01:29 AM
Arwen's line can be traced to Lúthien, and from her to Melian, who is an Ainu.

Arwen, Elrond, Elwing, Dior, Lúthien, Melian.

The Perky Ent
06-15-2004, 06:36 PM
Hmm. Yeah, I'll give it to you. A maia goes way back. I was thinking of the White Tree of Gondor, but I've been outsmarted. Good job! Your turn!

Nilpaurion Felagund
06-16-2004, 08:44 PM
Anywhen...who were the two tallest Children of Ilúvatar, and, just for the nasties, link them by Familial Ties. :p

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-05-2004, 08:59 PM
Is my question that hard?

Uh...maybe?

Ok, I'll make it easier. Who is the tallest of the Children of Ilúvatar. Check your Silm. :)

NightKnight
07-08-2004, 10:59 AM
Thingol!

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-08-2004, 08:28 PM
The thread, of course. It's yours. ;)

NightKnight
07-14-2004, 06:58 AM
Thanks. Was the other one Elendil?

Which was the highest mountain in the Outer Lands?

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-14-2004, 08:57 PM
I think it was Turgon, but I can't recall the exact passage. So it went out the window.

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-16-2004, 10:12 PM
If so, Meneltarma?

Unless, of course, you refer to Lost Tales.

NightKnight
07-17-2004, 03:59 AM
I'm not sure if Númenor counts, but either way, it's not right. ;) And yes, I'm counting BoLT. Guess what I'm reading right now? :p

luthien-elvenprincess
07-17-2004, 08:00 PM
Were the Iron Mountains the highest?

NightKnight
07-18-2004, 05:01 AM
Nope. It's a specific mountain I'm looking for.

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-19-2004, 09:05 PM
Kalormë!

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-09-2004, 12:46 AM
NK?

NightKnight
08-09-2004, 07:58 AM
Yeppers. And I've been away for some time, and I've been a bit busy since I got home, so I might have missed more threads than this one. Anyway, please take the stage. :)

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-10-2004, 10:36 PM
NK, have you been hiding from the sun again?

So . . . who was the first to die in Aman?

NightKnight
08-11-2004, 02:25 AM
Well... just a bit. ;)

It was Miriel Serinde, the wife of Finwë.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-11-2004, 11:10 PM
Yeah, right, NK. And the ocean's a little wet. :p

Correct, by the way. :)

NightKnight
08-12-2004, 02:37 AM
Yeah, it is. It was there I was hiding. ;)

Who was the greatest mariner of all times?

Fingolfin II
08-12-2004, 02:47 AM
That would be Earendil.

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-17-2004, 11:43 PM
NK?

NightKnight
08-18-2004, 01:32 PM
Yeah, of course. :)

I can't believe why I keep missing threads... Oh well, I'll try not to. ;)

Nilpaurion Felagund
08-23-2004, 12:23 AM
Fingolfin II?

Sleepy Ranger
08-30-2004, 03:18 AM
My turn. Bump. We need a question.

Nilpaurion Felagund
11-10-2004, 06:49 PM
Fingolfin II?

Fingolfin II
11-11-2004, 12:20 AM
Wow, bumped three times, how embarassing! Thanks for not making your own question, anyway-

Who slew Scatha?

NightKnight
11-11-2004, 10:44 AM
Fram.

Fingolfin II
11-12-2004, 12:17 AM
Yep :).

NightKnight
11-14-2004, 05:45 AM
Hmm...

Who killed the mightyest of the flying dragons?

Fingolfin II
11-15-2004, 12:36 AM
Earendil slew Ancalagon.

NightKnight
11-15-2004, 01:28 PM
Yup. :)

Fingolfin II
11-16-2004, 12:29 AM
Ok, now who killed the Father of the dragons?

luthien-elvenprincess
11-16-2004, 05:21 AM
Turin killed Glaurung

Fingolfin II
11-17-2004, 12:24 AM
That he did.

luthien-elvenprincess
11-17-2004, 06:30 PM
Who built the most luxurious hobbit-hole?

Nilpaurion Felagund
11-18-2004, 01:37 AM
Bungo Baggins?

luthien-elvenprincess
11-19-2004, 05:03 AM
Correct answer, Nil :)

Nilpaurion Felagund
11-19-2004, 11:19 PM
OK, who was the last person to look at Cabed-en-Aras?

NightKnight
11-20-2004, 10:20 AM
Wild shot: Brandir?

luthien-elvenprincess
11-21-2004, 07:56 PM
Hurin?

Nilpaurion Felagund
11-22-2004, 12:30 AM
NK got it.

NightKnight
11-28-2004, 11:39 AM
And who killed said Brandir?

Fingolfin II
11-29-2004, 12:03 AM
That crazy guy.....what's his name....Turin .

NightKnight
12-04-2004, 03:57 PM
The crazy guy it is! Your turn!

Fingolfin II
12-04-2004, 06:11 PM
Cheers, here's something that may be remotely challenging-

How many of Sam's daughters had golden hair? Also, please explain how you know this, so that people aren't just guessing random numbers.

luthien-elvenprincess
12-05-2004, 02:42 PM
Three of Sam's daughters had golden hair. I found this info in Appendix B.
 Not sure which two besides Eleanor though...except Goldilocks, of course!

Fingolfin II
12-05-2004, 04:21 PM
Exactly right :).

luthien-elvenprincess
12-06-2004, 05:33 PM
Besides the phial of Galadriel and the little box Galadriel gave him, what item kept in his backpack, did Sam keep the longest.

Fingolfin II
12-06-2004, 06:26 PM
His saucepans?

Nilpaurion Felagund
12-06-2004, 09:25 PM
His box of salt?

luthien-elvenprincess
12-07-2004, 04:27 AM
No to both

Nilpaurion Felagund
12-07-2004, 09:10 PM
His Lórien cloak?

luthien-elvenprincess
12-08-2004, 04:36 AM
No

luthien-elvenprincess
12-15-2004, 04:29 AM
Anyone?

Evisse the Blue
12-15-2004, 06:56 AM
The Elvish rope?

luthien-elvenprincess
12-15-2004, 08:53 PM
yes!
