The thread is about old signatures Barrowdowners have had, and the point of the game is guess/remember who had the signature which the asker puts forward. That is the point: read the first post in the thread, it helps. smilies/smile.gif

Hmmm, I was trying to find one that would be very difficult to figure out. Alas, I'm certain that it won't be too hard... smilies/wink.gif

Well, that smilies/wink.gif-smiley makes me think it's an old siggie of yourself, Aylwen!

So here's my guess: is it yours?

Bye!

Aethelwine.

Aylwen Dreamsong
12-01-2003, 03:12 PM
Sorry, Aethelwine, it was not mine. smilies/biggrin.gif Perhaps a hint? The person did put their siggy in the graveyard. smilies/smile.gif

Mark 12_30?

I like your new one actually, Aylwen - lovely...

Aylwen Dreamsong
12-02-2003, 06:32 PM
Thank you, great shade of luminescence (synonyms for starlight are hard to find! smilies/wink.gif) and yes, it was mark12_30's sig a long time ago.

Please proceed!

Oh I rather like that, Aylwen... smilies/wink.gif

I shouldn't think this one should be too hard, and it is still in use, but I do love this signature, so here you go...

A cynic is someone who - when smelling flowers - looks around and expects to find a coffin.

Amanaduial, isn't that Mariska Greenleaf's? I'm sure it is!

Bye,

Aethelwine.

Amanaduial the archer

Correct indeed, Aethelwine. Your turn, your wightiness!

Aethelwine
12-05-2003, 03:10 PM
I'm yours to command, most Honorabele Shadow of Starlight!

I live for scraps.

Hint: it's a quote, not a siggie.

Have fun!

Gah! I've seen that I'm certain... is that Diamond18?

Aethelwine
12-05-2003, 03:26 PM
No, I'm afraid that is not right, hiril nîn. Good guess though! smilies/wink.gif

Have fun searching!

Lovely..thankyou Aethelwine smilies/smile.gif

Ok, lets have another quote, why not... I cannot bear the sight of him, or of any man

smilies/wink.gif

Aylwen Dreamsong
12-05-2003, 03:55 PM
Oh, Aman, I'm almost positive that's from Brotherhood....only I can't find the quote...I'm assuming it's Melost though, after the betrayal. Is that enough? smilies/biggrin.gif

-Aylwen

Amanaduial the archer
12-05-2003, 04:01 PM
Specially for you Dorl- Aylwen. smilies/wink.gif

Technically, yes, Melost said it...but who was the Downer?

Aylwen Dreamsong
12-05-2003, 07:06 PM
Hmm, it was before the betrayal, at any rate. I went through to find it and the Downer to post the quote was Cuthalion, and it was when Thelian and Dorlas were getting drunk. smilies/biggrin.gif

I knew the quote was familiar.... smilies/tongue.gif

-Aylwen

Amanaduial the archer
12-06-2003, 09:24 AM
Yep, specially for you, m'dear - it appeared in the post after as well. Oh, whose post would that be... smilies/wink.gif

Your turn, O Air of Agony smilies/smile.gif

Aylwen Dreamsong
12-08-2003, 04:30 PM
Why thank you, uhh, Spirit of the Night Sky(?)

Anyway, sorry I took so long. This is a quote, and I just saw it so it's not buried anywhere too tough. smilies/smile.gif

Well, physically I'm 18, but spiritually I'm about twelve.

Hmmm...

-Aylwen

Amanaduial the archer
12-09-2003, 01:41 PM
Now I know I guessed this before and it was wrong, and I know she is now older, but really, I'm not just using this as a backup: is it Diamond18?

Now, which forthright frequenter of the forums described his or her discussion style thus:

In Sumo wrestling, the object is merely to shove your opponent out of the combat circle, whereas I prefer to crush opponents flat with a flying leap off the top rope. Someday I hope to actually accomplish the discussion-forum equivalent of this feat.

And I don't doubt it, either! smilies/biggrin.gif

Guinevere?

The Saucepan Man
12-11-2003, 08:06 PM
Hmm, Guinevere may take no prisoners when it comes to Quotes games, but I don't think that's her style on the discussion boards. smilies/eek.gif smilies/wink.gif

No, it wasn't Guinevere.

This sounds so familiar but I just can't place it... it's from a recent topic from books forum. Could it be the Saucepan Man's?

No. Far too witty for me, I am afraid. smilies/rolleyes.gif smilies/wink.gif

Amanaduial the archer
07-27-2005, 10:50 AM
It would appear that it has been a little over ten days... Let's have a siggy to start...

Phantom, I think.

Amanaduial the archer
07-27-2005, 11:02 AM
Nope, not Phantom.

Firefoot
07-27-2005, 11:15 AM
Maybe someone was attempting to be original with the quote then... but phantom says it here (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=371261&postcount=575), and a short way down the thread apparently changes it to his sig.

This is the most hilarious thread ever.

The Saucepan Man
07-28-2005, 05:38 PM
I seem to recall obloquy having posted something like that.

Feanor of the Peredhil
07-28-2005, 05:41 PM
I thought it was burrahobbit (my memory might be wrong), and wasn't it about the Crystal Heart Fiasco (or CHF, as it is somewhat fondly now known as)?

Amanaduial the archer
07-28-2005, 05:44 PM
Not obloquy, no. A hint to the poster's nature: that was his/her entire post, and for him/her, it was a remarkably long one at that. (Apologies for the clumsy wording of that sentence)

EDIT: sorry Fea, didn't see you there ;) Good lord, that thread has been initialised? The CHF. Sounds like a directorial position - "The CHF will see you know, Ms. Peredhil..." ...or did you just make that up on the spot?

I'm sorry, I'm waffling. Yes, it was burra - over to Fea.

Feanor of the Peredhil
07-28-2005, 06:07 PM
I didn't make up "CHF", though I snickered when I figured out what it meant the first time I saw it. A few of us have used it via PMs.

Onward!

"I come from yonder...Have you seen Baggins? Baggins has left, he is coming. He is not far away. I wish to find him. If he passes will you tell me? I will come back with gold." - Khamul the Easterling

Feanor of the Peredhil

Nilpaurion Felagund

I'll replace it with something more up-to-date, relatively.

the phantom's ego . . . will look nearly the size of a new planet from space.

Mithalwen
08-01-2005, 10:23 AM
Just to satisfy my curiosity - surely the Georgian delinquent could not refer to the erudite and urbane Mr Heren Istarion? Georgian though he be...

Feanor of the Peredhil
08-01-2005, 10:53 AM
Now let me see... who was it that was discussing arrogance on the phantom's predictions thread? Gil-Galad, perhaps? I seem to remember his ego swelling to the size of a... was it a planet? I'm really just too lazy to go check.

Ah, on second check (my laziness hasn't claimed me entirely, just mostly), I see that t'was TOREstel. And that Gil-Galad's ego was not a moon, simply something visable from space.

The Only Real Estel
08-01-2005, 12:55 PM

'Twas indeed a poke at Eomer. Check out my "occupation" to see the full jest.

And I can't help but think that a Monty Python quote should come from one of the following: Mithalwen, B88, or Gil-Galad.

Eomer of the Rohirrim
08-26-2005, 09:24 AM
I knew I'd seen that somewhere before. 'Twas Mister Underhill in the Canonicity thread.

Correct, Eomer. :)

Take this thread, may it serve you well.

Eomer of the Rohirrim
08-26-2005, 09:52 AM
Thank you, good sir. And may I say it is somewhat amusing to find all this talk of me on a thread where I don't post! Well, I'd like to start playing.

Try this for size:

Indeed this thread is great! So great we cannot even comprehend its greatness. This is barely anything however, compared to the greatness, glory and power of the Warg!

Shameless promotion, I know. :p :D

Correct. :)

Incidently, about a year and a half ago I had to be reminded of the 'American' way to spell 'gray'. And I live in America. :o What has LotR done to me!? :p

Sorry for the delay... (Seems like I'm always saying that these days. Alas for my lack of time! :( ) It looks like its supposed to be a wink, but it looks more like I just got poked in the eye and I am happy about it. That's just wierd.

I was fairly certain it would be The almighty Barrow-Wight's words, but I had to look it up again to be sure. From the thread 'What d'ya mean, it's only a smile?' in The Barrowdowns subforum. How could I forget such a brilliant post?

Nope. Ok, since y'all probably won't find it, this person last logged in on 1969

Glirdan
09-17-2005, 09:43 AM
Ok, well that could be a number of people because there are a lot of people who haven't logged on since then with under 50 posts. But I'm going to try with Durin's Bane who had 14 posts and only one box of rep points. Am I getting closer???

The Perky Ent
09-17-2005, 04:05 PM

hookbill our good friend said this

it was in "the future of the downs" it was reffering to a fake newspaper in which gil-galad killed the phantom

yes

I felt a great joy reading it.

Firefoot
10-03-2005, 03:53 PM
I haven't wanted to post here because I finally got tired of looking and used a search engine... I had the thread right (Newcomers, Introduce Yourself Here); it was some obscure member with 2 posts on the sixth page.

I don't think Morsul's been around for a while; I'd say anyone can go.

Amanaduial the archer
10-04-2005, 11:30 AM
it was some obscure member with 2 posts on the sixth page.
Well, I wouldn't call that strictly fair...I did try searching Novices and Newcomers, but I was searching from the end backwards, and as you can imagine it got a little tiresome...

Firefoot, you technically found it, although we shall have to take your word for it that you are right - I'd say that the next go is therefore yours.

Sleepy Ranger
10-04-2005, 11:59 AM
You must mean Anilorak, post #202 on page 6 of the Introduction Thread... :)

Firefoot
10-04-2005, 02:24 PM
Yes, that was him/her. Aman, I had originally tried doing the same thing. It wasn't working, and I realized that I was going fast enough that I was likely to miss it anyway.

So here's what should be a relatively easy one to get us going again:If we killed all the weird people, the human race would cease to exist

Glirdan
10-04-2005, 03:55 PM
Why that was dear old Perky Ent who said it in the "Do we realize how crazy we are?" thread.

Firefoot
10-04-2005, 07:59 PM
Yup.

Glirdan
10-04-2005, 08:01 PM
You might have to a little digging for this one.

I wonder if Gandalf could have received his power-up without dying. Given that the primary reason for it was Saruman's treachery and that it came direct from Eru, I don't see why not ...

Go for it!!

mormegil
10-04-2005, 08:14 PM
I remember that quote and I want to test myself by not looking. I believe that it was Alatar that said that.

I was wrong it was SpM here (http://www.forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=375313&postcount=7) in the thread "If they still had Gandalf"

Eomer of the Rohirrim
10-15-2005, 08:14 AM
Well, since no-one else is biting I might as well claim that quote as my own, Mormegil. ;)

I remember that was the first time I ever spoke to Holbytlass. A fine occasion, if I may say so. :)

mormegil
10-15-2005, 09:02 AM

Eomer of the Rohirrim
10-15-2005, 10:16 AM
It was a pretty good thread, if I may say so myself. :D

Try this one for size, one of my all-time favourite Barrow-Downs quotes:

"...and now your fangéd triumvirate can name them as suspects to deflect attention from yourselves!"

An easy one, perhaps; but worthy.

Glirdan
10-15-2005, 10:29 AM
That looks like it was part of one of the Werewolf games. The only problem will be trying to find which one. If I'm right that is.....

the guy who be short
10-15-2005, 11:09 AM
Without checking, which condemns me to being wrong, that sounds Fordimesque.

Mithalwen
10-15-2005, 11:38 AM

11-03-2005, 08:03 AM
hmmm maybe Gurthang?

I know this is going to be totally wrong but if I recall correctly I read a topic a few years ago where someone made a note of civillized uruk-hai (or maybe orcs), I believe the username was something Silverleaf or Leafsilver. I don't think that member is active anymore.

mormegil
11-10-2005, 03:04 PM

I'm not sure if he is or not but I'll say

Arry.

if not do you have little hint for me? ;)

Gil-Galad

Eowyn Skywalker perhaps?
