Airehiriel

"Give me chipsss now, and keep your nassty chipssss!!!

Shouldn't the quote be give me fishhh now?

Anyway, that is Gollum, to Sam while Sam is stewing the conies.

And besides, I think it is Earwen turn to post a quote. You can only post a quote when you guess the previous posted quote correctly. It was good for a first try though Daughter of Gollum and Shelob.

Guinevere
05-18-2003, 10:46 AM
To be exact, Theoden says this about Eomer to Gandalf, in "the King of the Golden Hall"

btw: did Tolkien make up this or is it a real proverb in England? It sounds so genuine...

"exact" wasn't the right word, ok. I just couldn't resist posting additional information (which usually is required, I thought), since I knew this quote so well (I am collecting "proverbs" from Tolkien's books smilies/wink.gif )
Of course it is your turn, not mine.

is that aragorn?

I agree with sami...
Doesn't Aragorn say that when Frodo and Sam have left the company, Boromir is dead and the two other hobbits are taken by the orcs?

Then he gathers Legolas, Gimli and himself and says...
Well first one of them says: "The fellowship has failed."
And then Aragorn says: "Not if we hold together."
Wait.... he doesn't say that... he says:" Not if we keep true to eachother..."

This was only a wild guess... eh

Well, Orofaniel, one of your guesses was right: it was Gimli , but I would like to hear about what he is talking and to whom!

He said it in the Fargorn forest. He was talking to Gandalf(Legolas and Aragorn) about him fighting the Balrog far under the living earth.

And I will stop guessing two people at a time, bad habbit.....

Oro

Edit: sorry again..

Edit 2: Since it was Pippin who said it it has to be in TTT book one. I'll be skimming it and try to find it. Once more; Sorry

Yes, I have found it at last. It is in TTT, Flotsam and Jetsam. Pippin and Merry have finally met the company again,( after meeting Treberad) and they are telling thair tale.

Here is something before the quote and after the quote:
"The cutting of the bands on your wrists, that was smart work!" said Gimli. " Luck served you there; but you seized your chance with both hands, one might say"
"And set us a pretty riddle," said legolas. "I wonder if you had grown wings!"
"Unfortunatly not," said Pippin."But you did not know about Grishnákh." He shuddered and said no more, leaving Merry to tell of those last horrible moments: the pawing hands, the hot breath, and the dreadful strenght of Grishnákh's hairy arms. "All this about the Orcs of Barad-dûr, Lugbúrz as thay call it, makes me uneasy," siad Aragorn.

Unfortunately not

So pippin said it to Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn in TTT, Flotsam and Jetsam.

I have been looking at that quote too and wondering, because you had posted the same quote on the "RotK"-thread, ( there it was said by Beregond to Pippin about a Nazgul) smilies/rolleyes.gif

I'm pretty sure this is either Gimli or Legolas in TTT to Aragorn...but I could be wrong...

Guinevere

Gilraën is right! (as usual smilies/wink.gif )
It was indeed Gimli to Legolas when they had entered Fangorn, before meeting Gandalf. (in "The White Rider")

But it was Treebeard who said to Merry
"Yes, I do know him; the only wizard that really cares about trees" said Treebeard, "Do you know him?"
