Wonderful!

But wherefore have you scorned my
counsel, and come into peril?

Bruce MacCulloch
01-07-2003, 10:38 AM
Turambar to the people of Brethil after slaying Glaurung.

Beren87
01-07-2003, 03:21 PM
That would be correct Bruce. Your turn.

Dondagnirion
01-07-2003, 04:37 PM
Can I join in on this game?

Beren87
01-07-2003, 04:46 PM
Welcome Dondagnirion!

You can join anygame that you would like by simply jumping in and answering a question. When Bruce asks the next question, you have the chance to answer it. Have fun!

until the world ends
There! That should keep Mat busy for a while. smilies/tongue.gif

Ahh, but Mat would have to beat me.

Twas, Celegorm saying "For the Silmarils we alone claim, until the world ends." He was just really yelling in a crowd, to no one in particular.

Very nice Beren! I was beginning to despair that all of my posts would be answered by the same person. smilies/tongue.gif
You have the floor.

Beren87
01-07-2003, 10:33 PM
Can I take it home with me? smilies/wink.gif

You shall be my guide, and I will be your guard!

Agh! That one by Bruce slipped by me! smilies/redface.gif

Not to worry .. this one is Maeglin to his mother Aredhel before their escape from Nan Elmoth ..

Beren87
01-09-2003, 03:46 PM
Correct as usual Mr.Russandol.

Now comes the night

Beren87
01-09-2003, 06:23 PM
Turin after Mablung told him and he realised he had killed Brandir for no reason.

I'm suprised I actually remembered that one.

Well done Beren. Your go.

Beren87

Ah, thank you.

save that we were not driven forth, but came of our own will

Bruce MacCulloch
01-24-2003, 10:38 PM
Galadriel to Melian, regarding the Flight of the Noldor.

Beren87
01-24-2003, 10:38 PM
Of course correct Master Bruce!

Bruce MacCulloch
01-26-2003, 11:15 PM
... I would weep ...

Beren87
01-26-2003, 11:55 PM
Does it include the dots? 'Cause if not, then Miriel to....I guess Finwë about dieing after giving birth to Fëanor.

Edit: Bloody Caps key.

Bruce MacCulloch
01-27-2003, 12:33 AM
No, it does not include the dots - lol
Your turn, Beren.

Beren87
01-27-2003, 12:48 AM
Ah! Nice attempt to confuse me, because it worked.

whatever betide

To my knowledge the only two instances where those words appear together like that in The Silm.

Voronwe
01-27-2003, 05:45 AM
Edrahil to Felagund in Nargothrond is one.

Beren87
01-27-2003, 02:26 PM
Correct Voronwe! Nice to see a relitively new face in the Quotes room.

Voronwe
01-27-2003, 06:18 PM
Not a new face, merely an old face who has not visited the quotes forum for quite some time smilies/wink.gif

I will slay thee gladly.

Beren87
01-27-2003, 06:22 PM
Anglachel to Turin, because Turin killed Beleg.

Nope, not quite.

01-30-2003, 05:18 AM
Any other takers? I would hate to have killed off this vererable thread. If no-one answers I will provide a clue.

Russandol
01-30-2003, 11:00 AM
Glaurung to Turin by the Gates of Nargothrond after the former had released the latter from the spell of his eyes.

'If thou wilt be slain, I will slay thee gladly. But small help will that be to Morwen and Nienor. No heed didst thou give to the cries of the Elf-woman. Wilt thou deny also the bond of thy blood?'

That Glorund was a bad lot...

Voronwe
01-30-2003, 11:47 AM
Indeed, Russ. Proceed.

Russandol
01-30-2003, 01:12 PM
Thank you Voronwë.

So I see in my thought.

Dondagnirion

Was it Melian?

Dondagnirion
"He who cannot cast away a treasure at need is in fetters." - Aragorn

Russandol
02-01-2003, 05:02 PM
It was not Melian.

Bruce MacCulloch
02-02-2003, 01:53 AM
Yavanna speaking of the inability of the olvar to defend themselves

Russandol
02-02-2003, 10:52 AM
Spot on as usual Master Mac!

Eärendil
02-14-2003, 05:23 AM
Okay, it´s been more than a week now, so anyone can go. (I can´t right now, haven´t got the book with me.)

Dondagnirion
02-14-2003, 12:35 PM
Here goes nothing....

"Yea, with both hands shall......"

There it is, fairly easy one I think. Beren or someone will probly get it five mins after I post smilies/smile.gif.
Good Luck all.

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87
02-14-2003, 02:49 PM
Nah, I had to wake up first.

It was Melkor to Ungoliant somewhere in Avathar.

It was easy to find as the word "Yea" doesn't occur all that often. Plus I'm right around there in my re-reading.

Dondagnirion
02-14-2003, 08:23 PM
Good job Beren, your turn.

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87
02-15-2003, 02:29 PM
'Here once was light

Dondagnirion
02-16-2003, 03:23 AM
Yavanna after Morgoth and Ungoliant killed the trees maybe?

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87
02-16-2003, 09:56 AM
Nope, not what I'm thinking of.

Dondagnirion
02-16-2003, 10:35 AM
A hint?

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87
02-16-2003, 10:58 AM
It was an elf, and it was said during a "speech" to people.

Dondagnirion
02-17-2003, 10:37 AM
Im going to say that it was part of Faenors speech (i cant remember how to do the funky e with the dots for his name, sorry), when he was trying to get the elves to leave Valinor and pursue Morgoth.

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87
02-17-2003, 01:06 PM
Good enough!

To do that "funky thing above the e" you push ALT + 0235. E is the only letter I remember 'cause its used quite often.

Dondagnirion
02-17-2003, 04:31 PM
"It is not within my power to pardon those of my own order."

Good luck all.

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Beren87
02-26-2003, 09:56 PM
I found this... But it was not within the power of Eönwë to pardon those of his own order, and he commanded Sauron to return to Aman and there receive the judgement of Manwë.
Which is just narration, not an actual quote. But its the only thing I've found that even remotly matches..

Eärendil
03-13-2003, 04:55 AM
Um...Dondagnirion isn´t responding, so..maybe we should just move on. Do you want to post a new quote, Beren?

Dondagnirion
03-13-2003, 10:36 AM
Sorry, that was it Beren. What I was thinking of anyway. I am sorry it was not really a quote, I did not have my book at the time. Your turn Beren.

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Annunfuiniel
03-14-2003, 11:47 AM
Beren won't be around for a while I'm afraid (see Quiz room Note) so I will keep this thread going.
We are threatened with many evils,
Sorry if this has been asked already.

Dondagnirion
03-28-2003, 10:26 AM
That sounds like Manwe to me. Probly wrong tho.

Dondagnirion
"There is no spoon."

Annunfuiniel

Morgoth Bauglir
04-26-2003, 04:43 PM
mandos?

Annunfuiniel
04-26-2003, 11:57 PM
Nope, not Mandos either.
Oh, clue you say? Ok then: 'twas said at the moment of bitter departure.
Hope that helps. smilies/smile.gif

Well, you would be right, except that you have three names too many. You know you can eliminate Beren, because he only saw Gondolin from a distance and never met Turgon in person.

Now, which one of the brothers said this, Hurin or Huor. Think. You can do it. smilies/wink.gif

Many are the strange chances of this world,

Guinevere

I can't resist answering that one... smilies/wink.gif

"Many are the strange chances of the world," said Mithrandir, "and help oft shall come from the hands of the weak when the Wise falter."

Mithrandir said it to Elrond at the first White Council, in "Of the rings of power"

further counsel I cannot give

gilraën
06-09-2003, 12:13 AM
Huan to Beren.

Then for the second time Huan spoke with words; and he counselled Beren, saying: 'From the shadow of death you can no longer save Lúthien, for by her love she is now subject to it. You can turn from your fate and lead her into exile, seeking peace in vain while your life lasts. But if you will not deny your doom, then either Lúthien, being forsaken, must assuredly die alone, or she must with you challenge the fate that lies before you--hopeless, yet not certain. Further counsel I cannot give, nor may I go further on your road. But my heart forebodes that what you find at the Gate I shall myself see. All else is dark to me; yet it may be that our three paths lead back to Doriath, and we may meet before the end.'

It's said about Anglachel. But I can't remember which 'wielder' says it. So I'll guess Turin.

the phantom

Beleg

Guinevere
06-11-2003, 02:16 AM
It is about Anglachel, Gilraën, but the Phantom got the right "wielder": it was indeed Beleg, speaking to Melian when she warned him about the sword.

Don't feel bad, I didn't check it, trusting to memory. I'll live to guess another time smilies/wink.gif smilies/smile.gif
