Okay, starting my first topic here. (I know there´s already a thread on this started, but nothing wrong with a new, is it? smilies/smile.gif) Starting with this one:
"So it is doomed."
Lindolirian
06-07-2002, 12:11 PM
Well Mandos usually pronounces dooms and stuff like that so i'll guess him.
Eärendil

Eärendil

The wife of Dorlas (does she have a name?).
"And maybe there is woe enough yet to come, though still hope may seem bright."
Maédhros

Imrahil?
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-17-2002, 02:25 PM
And the winner is....High Duke! Yes, Turin it was..but it was sorta a trick quote. It was in the book, but Turin thought it to himself. You know, the quotes where they talk to themselves and it appears as if they are talking to someone else, but no. They are talking to themselves...much like what I do! smilies/biggrin.gif
High Duke
07-17-2002, 03:43 PM
OK my turn:
"You have my leave, but not my love. The sooner you depart from my land the better will it please me."

"You have my leave, but not my love. The sooner you depart from my land the better will it please me."
I know this quote, why am I going blank!!!??
I'll guess again. Is it Denethor? No, Orodreth????!!!!
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-18-2002, 03:59 PM
AH!!!!! That's it that's it!! WHY didn't I remember!? It as when Aredhel was escaping with Maeglin and Eol went after them but ran into Curufin and his...people. Oh well!
I onnly caught that one because i just got done going thought the story looking for a quote and only now realize the person of my handle name was a man of few words.

OK.Eol's turn.
"I am the lord of Beleriand, "
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-19-2002, 04:29 PM
It's Thingol, but I think probably Feanor or Maedhros said that. Or someone "Feanor related". I guess....maybe..
High Duke
07-19-2002, 04:32 PM
Is it Thingol?
High Duke
07-19-2002, 04:35 PM
Sorry Lothiriel. You posted it few minutes before me.
You are right about it being Thingol. He was speaking to the princes of Noldor who also wanted to piece of Thingol's pie and he would not have it.
who's next for a quote?

Lothriel.
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-19-2002, 05:28 PM
Really??? Well, I kinda had a 'hidden' answer, and if you want, you can go instead of me.
High Duke
07-19-2002, 05:52 PM
OK:
"A wandering elf,a thrall escaped, whom Beleg met and comforted."
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-19-2002, 08:00 PM
I don't know who said that....but I think they're talking about Gwindor. Maybe it wasn't spoken by anybody, or it was spoken by Turin. Either one!!
I think is it also Gwidor as he was the only elf I can think of who "escaped" from anything and helped Beleg. The quote also sounds of a omnipont narrative or a personal narrative (such as one's thoughts.)
High Duke
07-20-2002, 03:39 AM
It's Gwidor all right.
Guess this one:
" and after him they named his folk Nomin,"
who is this refering to and whom gave them the name?
Eärendil
07-29-2002, 03:24 AM
Well, it is referring to Felagund, they named Felagund´s folk Nómin, after the word Nóm, that means Wisdom.
But what do you mean by "whom gave them the name" ?
I have this terrible habit of mistyping my thoughts. I had not mention "them" I meant "him".
yeah, got it right.
Eärendil
07-30-2002, 03:29 PM
"Ye mighty of Arda, the Vision of Ilúvatar was brief and soon taken away"
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-30-2002, 03:42 PM
I thought that quote was narrated. Hm, oh well. Is it Manwe? Or Melkor?
Eärendil
07-31-2002, 02:56 PM
Narrated? I don´t think so.....
Nope, it´s not Manwë, nor Melkor.
Ravenna
07-31-2002, 04:02 PM
Was it Varda? or Mandos?
Ravenna
07-31-2002, 04:06 PM
No wrong! it was Yavanna, I knew I'd find it eventually.
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-31-2002, 04:19 PM
I KNEW it was one of the Valar!
Eärendil
08-01-2002, 08:48 AM
Yep Ravenna, Yavanna is correct. Your turn. smilies/smile.gif
Ravenna
08-02-2002, 09:47 AM
OK try this one.
'Why hast thou done this? Why dost thou attempt a thing which thou knowest is beyond thy power and thy authority?
Eärendil
08-02-2002, 10:47 AM
Hm...Ilúvatar to Aulë?
Ravenna
08-02-2002, 03:47 PM
Yes, Earendil; it was Iluvatar to Aule when he made the dwarves... Your turn.
Eärendil
08-04-2002, 01:36 PM
"There everlastingly thy naked self shall endure the torment of his scorn"
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-04-2002, 04:47 PM
Turin? Was that said by Turin when him and Saedros had that fight and then Turin chased him naked? Oh wait. Maybe it was one of Turin's companions. Hafta look...nope it's not. Oh what the hell, I'll just say Morgoth. I'm gonna get it wrong anyway.
Galorme
08-05-2002, 06:29 AM
This is the first time i have wondered out of the Books, so i dont know what to do, but the answer Luthien and Huan to Sauron on the Isle of Werewolfs, and the Scorn was to come from Melkor. Sorry if i wasn't supposed to answer that.
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-05-2002, 11:51 AM
Don't be sorry, everyone has a chance to answer. And I'm the one usually wrong. The quotes sounds so familiar, but I don't like looking in my book for the answers, and I haven't read the Sil for a couple of months. Ok, I looked in the book just that once before. smilies/rolleyes.gif But welcome to the quiz room, Galorme!! smilies/biggrin.gif
I find no shame in look in the books, I do it myself quite often to double check my anwsers. Unless here you are not suppose to look.... smilies/rolleyes.gif
Galorme
08-05-2002, 02:48 PM
Do i get a go now? How about:
"Do they run like deer clad only in their hair?"
Can i be nasty and say who said it, who did they say it too, and who are they talking about. Can i do that?
I seems that the quote is from the story of Turin?
is it refering to the green elves that walk the forests?
I know I just read this two weeks ago and it is driving me nuts!
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-05-2002, 04:02 PM
Eol, no, looking in the books is fine! I just don't do it. That's just me though.
Hm. I think it was said by Saeros to Turin when Turin came to Menegroth all unclean and...stuff. smilies/rolleyes.gif
Morgoth Bauglir
08-06-2002, 10:38 AM
awww u beat me to it!
Galorme
08-06-2002, 02:52 PM
Yep it was indeed Saeros, and he was refering (well hinting) about Túrin's mother. Does someone else do one now?
Morgoth Bauglir
08-06-2002, 03:59 PM
i dont think he was reffering to anyone, just trying to tick him off and make fun of his household in general.

Lothiriel Silmarien
08-06-2002, 06:13 PM
Yeah. And what a coincidence, look what Nienor did. I like Turin though, stupid Saeros. Well, ok death wasn't exactly the answer, but Turin didn't mean it..
Oh, so it's IS Saeros! Yess, finally I get a right guess!
I'll have to think of one for a little, I'm sorry! I won't be long.
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-06-2002, 06:30 PM
"Journey light: but bring with you your swords!"
Galorme
08-07-2002, 04:17 PM
That has to be Feanor. No-one else would place Swords at No.1.
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-07-2002, 04:27 PM
WHAT!!!!??? COME ON!!! I was hoping there would be a little trouble with this one! Just ONE reply. Not even 2!!!!
Sorry Galorme. You know your right anyway! Go ahead.
Galorme
08-08-2002, 02:48 PM
Sorry i had The Hobbit, the LoTRs and the Sil read to me on a 1 and a half year cycle from about the age of 5, i know most of it off by heart. Hmm. I could be really mean and give you a piece of narrative and expect you to say Aelfwine, but then we would get into a big debate on who REALLY wrote the sil. So i will settle for this:
"How shall our voices reach Ilúvatar beyond the circles of the world?"
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-08-2002, 05:02 PM
Some Elven people?? The Noldor. I don't know, I'm just guessing. Like I always do smilies/biggrin.gif
Morgoth Bauglir

meadhros to maglor, after the war of wrath, concerning the awakening of the oath and stealing the silmarils.

umm ok i didnt have the book handy soo....
who said this:
Turin turambar turun ambartanen
the other part (well, translation) is: master of doom by doom mastered.
this is sooooo easy
Dude you are very correct.
Nienor/Niniel said this after the dragon died and she understand the true that her husband was her brother. Ack!

righto, your turn
"Thou hast spoken."
Hope this is not too vague, I cannot give too many clues else the speaker would be given away.
Galorme
08-13-2002, 08:15 AM
That sounds suspiciously like Manwe to Feanor, when he refuses the Silmirils. Or or or. Actually it sounds more like Mandos. Arg i probabily look kinda stupid now. I would check the Sil, but that would mean going downstairs...
Morgoth Bauglir
08-13-2002, 09:36 AM
i think its mandos to feanor when feanor says no to yavanna.
Well it is not the noldor or elf, but speak of one. smilies/tongue.gif
Well morgoth, your da man! i thought that might be a little hard, but apparently it was not.
your turn!

lol this is all i could think of, its easy too
"not the first"
Mandos spoke to Feanor, imply the death of is father Finwe.
Galorme
08-13-2002, 04:55 PM
Aw how come Morgoth gets that one? (i supose i would be disqualified for taking two guesses tho)
Gal, you have the next turn!
Plus, I did not see your post for some odd reason... smilies/rolleyes.gif

Nah dont worry I know you lot all club together against me...
Hmm a quote. I cant think of one off the top of my head (its the wee hours o' the morning over here and i am a little the worse for wine). ::scuttles off to get book::
In answer to your vague questions i will say:
"See now!"
Hmm actually that is too evil. They also said (in the same speach")
"This is a great matter"
Morgoth Bauglir
08-13-2002, 10:18 PM
Eol is correct.
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-16-2002, 11:16 AM
I'm confused as to which person should go, but to Galorme's quote, "See now!" the answer would be Feanor. I'm pretty sure. When he talks to Fingolfin. "See now, this is sharper than thy toungue....." Is that right? Hm..doesn't look like it'd fit. But for once I'm going to stick to my answer even if it may be wrong!!
Morgoth Bauglir
08-16-2002, 03:09 PM
isnt it something like:
See now! if thou try once more to usurp the position of love from my father.....blah blah blah or something like that.
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-16-2002, 04:40 PM
It's something like that. See now, this is sharper than thy toungue, try but once more to usurp the love of my father...or the other way around, like you said. Um, forget though!
Here is the quote:
"See, half brother! This is sharper than thy tongue. Try but once more to usurp my place and the love of my father, and maybe it will rid the Noldor of one who seeks to be the master of thralls." p70
Feanor to Fingolfin
That help?

I just saw that quote at the top of the page, and it's not that smilies/frown.gif It says See half brother..... smilies/frown.gif smilies/frown.gif I was so close though! Ok, I will guess again then! Ok nevermind. I'll have to think about it more.
To make you feel better, I have not the vaguest what the anwser to the quote. My guess is something with Thingol. Close?
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-16-2002, 05:19 PM
Eol, that DOES make me feel better! smilies/wink.gif
Ok, guessing AGAIN. I'm going with.....Maedhros.
Morgoth Bauglir
08-16-2002, 06:02 PM
how bout eol makes a quote since he was actually supposed to go a long time ago smilies/smile.gif
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-16-2002, 07:27 PM
Ok, Eol, your turn.
Thank you for the turn, you are far too kind!
What was the scene and who said this
" We have many more such at home,"
Here is a clue, who said this followed the words with a VERY terrible deed!
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-28-2002, 04:25 PM
Feanor?
Lothiriel Silmarien
08-28-2002, 05:44 PM
The dwarves from Belegost who killed Thingol?
A littler earlier then that. try again
Davin
08-28-2002, 09:05 PM
I believe it was The Heralds of Angband....I just read that part last night. That was said right before Gelmir son of Guilin was killed.
Then the heralds of Angband showed him forth, crying: 'We have many more such at home, but you must make haste if you would find them; for we shall deal with them all when we return even so.' And they hewed off Gelmir's hands and feet, and his head last, within sight of the Elves, and left him.

Well, it was partly right, i cant give it to you though. Clue: Tuor marries the daughter of __.
That probably made it too easy, hehe.
Dude that was a dead give away.... smilies/biggrin.gif I will not anwser that one. I will let someone else get. I have not an idea for a quote anyways.
Lothiriel Silmarien
09-02-2002, 11:37 AM
Woohoo! Thanks Eol for passing it on smilies/biggrin.gif Ok, it's Turgon to Tuor. Or Tuor to Turgon..

Whoa...that was a wild fling in the air.
"to take what is mine; for I am the last of my people."
Galorme
09-06-2002, 03:01 PM
Is it Hurin to the petty dwarf? Or the other way round? Actually thats pretty ironic. They are both the last of their line, both old and broken. It could be either. Or neither and i am totally wrong.
Ya right, it's Mim talking to Hurin when the man finds him after Morgoth releases Hurin to "wander" freely.
Your turn.
Eärendil
09-13-2002, 07:56 AM
Galorme, no quote?
Oh well, it´s been a week now, so I´ll post a new quote:
"As I promised, I do now. I release thee, and remember no grievance."
Amarie
09-13-2002, 08:35 AM
Fingolfin said that to feanor. If I'm wrong just skip my quote, but I didnt want to leave anyone hanging.. smilies/biggrin.gif

That was said to Turin when he needed healing after stabbing his best friend mercilessly and taking the life of an innocent elf with his own sword once he has spent months tracking him just to save him from certain death and thralldome at the hands of the evil beeing who cursed him and held his father yet he still killed him he was a good elf better than turin will ever be he did not deserve to die the world is worse off without him i think turin deserved everything that happened to him lousy stupid man beast he suffered and it made me very happy i laughed at his death and would have dug up his bones and laughed at them too if it wasn't just a story die turin die turin suffer pain.

Legolas

You've been given a hint. Morgoth was close when he said one of the Valar. It's not one of them, but close.
It was the Herald of Manwë, Eonwë who stated this to Fëanor in the Chapter Of The Flight of the Noldor.
But even as the trumpet sang and Fëanor issued from the gates of Tirion a messenger came at last from Manwë, saying: 'Against the folly of Fëanor shall be set my counsel only. Go not forth! For the hour is evil, and your road leads to sorrow that ye do not foresee. No aid will the Valar lend you in this quest; but neither will they hinder you; for this ye shall know: as ye came hither freely, freely shall ye depart
Morgoth Bauglir
11-22-2002, 10:33 PM
it was manwe though
Legolas
11-23-2002, 12:57 AM
Joy is right, though it wasn't Eonwe. If it was, I'm sure it would've said so. Manwe had many messengers, I'd imagine.
Thanks Legolas, wasn't too sure about the Eonwë part.
Almost. I am spent. I shall go with the sun. Now little time is left: if you know, tell me! How did she find him?

You can give no aid.
That was Mîm to Túrin Túrambar.
Then Mîm looked up at him, and said: 'You can give no aid. For this is Khîm, my son; and he is dead, pierced by an arrow. He died at sunset. Ibun my son has told me.'
