I know that this has been posted before, but I am letting you guys know that there is more set in stone now about this gathering...
http://www.tolkiengathering.com/
I just reserved two tickets, for my friend and myself, tonight & I noticed at least one other Barrow-Downer on the list.
The website lists everything you need to know: prices, events, hotel packages...etc.
I can't wait... I can't believe I'm actually going.
Hurry up and reserve, because I think they are going to sell out quickly!
PS - It's being held in Toronto, by the way.

OMG! I've got to reserve tickets???!!
I'll have to work really hard to get my parents to let me go.
Hm..should I try the "It will be an educational experiance" trick?

Toronto!?!?! Hmmmm....well....I have cousins in Detroit and they have family in Canada. I don't know. Toronto just seems soooo far away from Maryland. My Gandparent's live in Northern Michigan (U.P. Rocks!!) Maybe I could visit them, I mean, my Grandpa loves the books almost as much as me, and he saw the movie the first night (He might have fallen asleep once or twice). Maybe we could figure something out. I want to go sooooooo much. It sounds really cool.

Is this event B.Y.O.B.? As in, bring your own beer?

Aylwen,
D.C. to Toronto is a ten to twelve hour drive, depending on traffic and the number of stops you want to make.
I should know. I've made it eight times in the last nine years. (Granted, in June and July) If you want more info about it, PM me. smilies/smile.gif

Are you going to the party Tigerlily?
I have not bought tickets for that yet.... but I couldn't possible pass up a Tolkien themed masqerade ball at Mediaeval Times!!!
I am planning on wearing my Barrow-Downs tee (talk about planning ahead) so that I can find others...
Also, Barrow-Wight, if you read this post.... I know that a lot of other forums are being represented and are doing special things & I was wondering if you want The Barrow Downs represented in some way or another (I know one group is doing a quilt & such). I would be happy to front a project if not too many other people decide to go to this event (though I hope they will).
Also, people who are interested... make sure that when you reserve tickets you mention in the "comments" box that you are from The Barrow-Downs.
I can't wait to go and, hopefully get to meet a lot of you for the first time!!! smilies/biggrin.gif

Just a note...
If anyone else is planning on attending, it is better to get your tickets early, because as the event begins to sell out the ticket prices are going to go up. Right now Rose Cotton and I are the only two from The Barrow Downs with early bird tickets, it would be great if others come, though.
Some things the event will include are:
~A first viewing of ROTK with a theatre full of Tolkien-lovers.
~A triple feature!
~A masquerade ball and costume contest at Mediaeval Times.
~A fan art gallery
~Fan poetry
~Live Tolkien-inspired music
~A chance to meet hundreds of Tolkien fans.
~Lots of vendors & booths for certain online communities
~Lots more that I can't remember...

Where can you buy tickets?

You can buy tickets at the link I posted in my first post in this topic (www.tolkiengathering.com). Just go to the main page and scroll down to where the little chart is that lists the number of people who are already coming or interested, click the "join us" link and it will take you to a page where you can purchase early-bird tickets by clicking the pic of the entrace to Moria.
Tickets for the costume ball will go on sale in January.
It's easier than it sounds.

Yeah. Only one ocean between there and here. I don't think my dad will let me over all that water just to meet people I've met online and see the movie. To bad, it could have been fun. *sighs deeply*
