So, B-W, is this to remind us just how much time we've wasted at your site?

"One hour, 18 minutes? NO WAY!"

Thank you for asking, as I was just going to. Its off centered as well...

I've been on here for the last 11 hours.

Well, you Americans do know about time zones, right? smilies/wink.gif The Barrow-Downs clock is a service for all of our international members, so that they can compare their time to the official site posting times.

The Downs time says it is 26-Dec 2002 9:52

Oh, it's a clock! See, I logged on at midnight last night, and the thing was reading 0:05, 0:06, etc. - so I thought it was a timer to show how long you'd been at the Downs.

Boy, is my face red. Dang military time!

The clock seems to be inaccurate, so I have taken it down for now and will replace it ASAP.

Susan Delgado

It was accurate for me.

VanimaEdhel

There was a clock? Why don't you people tell me these things?

And I only come online for at most three hours at a time in total anyway, just to stick to the topic.

Beren87
01-29-2003, 10:43 PM
When I was on it just said "Barrow Downs Time" in bold green letters and thats it. I didn't see anything resembling a clock.

Susan Delgado

As an interesting side-note, ever since I joined the Downs, I was sure there must be a clock somewhere displaying the time. I was always looking for it. Then an actual clock showed up and I had to face the fact that I'd been searching for months for something that didn't exist! smilies/smile.gif

The clock is apparently up again. Just so you know, Mr. Barrow-Wight: it is working perfectly over here. It has the exact same time my New York, Eastern Standard Time clock has on my computer. Just so you know that your hard work payed off!

When I'm comparing the clock to the time on a post I put up a moment ago, (and knowing that it SHOULD be 6 hours behind my time, not 9 as it is now) the clock is 3 hours behind what it should be....

In other words, to me it shows West coast time.

Hmmm...it is still 18:05 on the clock I have. And it's 6:05 pm here...

I still don't have a clock, I just have:

It is currently __________ on the Barrow-Downs.

Well, it fits perfectly now. The clock shows 20.03 and my own is 2.03AM, so that makes me six hours ahead which is the way it should be.

EDIT: But the time shown on top of the post is 4 minutes ahead... smilies/biggrin.gif

Alkanoonion

Ah I just worked it out!
It is using your own computers time and converting it to the downs time, my computers date is set to Dec 02 9:39 so the downs time says it is still 29-Dec-02 6:06
So if you change your computers settings the time should change as well.

The clock on the Downs doesn't change for me, it just stays five hours behind. I guess it's just East Coast and I'm GMT.

It would be quite cool if it was a timer, though! Although it would become a rather large number for me...

VanimaEdhel

I know that, silly! That's why I was saying that it worked! My dad only works on military time, so I have to know conversions right away...*sighs and rolls her eyes at her dad a bit*

I think the Barrow-Wight needs to work on it a bit, because it says:

It is currently 19-Jan-03 12:33 on the Barrow-Downs

True, it is 12:33pm for me, but January 19?!?!?

Wait a minute. So it's not GS? It says exactly what my clock says, and I'm in the central time zone in America! Is it SUPPOSED to show Central Standard time? What about our friends in Europe? Like about three-fourths of the regular posters, for that matter?

Guys, I can't resist teasing you here, but which do we think is worse? Talking about the weather or talking about the time? I have this vision of wonderfully tedious conversations at the bus stop.

"Such a wonderful time of day we're having.."

"Yes. 9:05."

"Really? It's 9:06 by my watch."

"No kidding?" Long awkward pause. "So. What's that in military time do you think?"

What about our friends in Europe?

I don't mind at all. It's useful to have a sort of official forum time, and it's only logical for that to be the time wherever the server is. Besides which we all know what time it is in our own zones. I think. smilies/wink.gif

The time here is quite mild, Maril: it's just coming up to half-past one in the afternoon, which I've always thought to be one of the most clement times of day. I hope that the hour is favourable where you are.

33 replies! Ay caramba!

I requested that Wighty put up a clock, so that we could tell how long ago posts were made on each thread. Unless you are in the same timezone that the Barrow Downs is, the times stated on posts are confusing and become kind of irrelevant.

Also I wanted to point out the inherent superiority I derive from being 18 hours ahead of the Downs. BWA HA HA HAAA!!! Anyone want me to tell them what's going to happen today?
So if you change your computers settings the time should change as well.

Stop it, you're freaking me out! I need time to come to terms with a concept like that...

The clock is a good thing,

If it is not correct with your time then tough luck. it is 6 hours behind on mine but I don't mind. It gives me some Math practise and that is good for a person. I was looking for that clock too a while ago Susan.

It is somewhat strange that the clock runs on Eastern Standard Time. I mean, being from New York, I love it, because I don't have to remember how many hours in which direction I have to count to reach the correct time (not counting that I have the time in the lower right-hand corner of my computer, but that's not the point), but one would think it would be on GMT(the "Real Time")...

I requested that Wighty put up a clock, so that we could tell how long ago posts were made on each thread.

That would actually be really helpful if you could do that, Wighty. Then we'd know if we were on when last the thread was posted on.

Dear Vanima,

Issn't that what the clock is for? I mean, you can see the time between posts just by counting the time. Not that hard I think. Love the name you got for BW by the way.

No, more like the paucity of interesting responses in the the Midwest, period.

That sounds like my family during x-mas. Thank god we now hardly have any visitors. It's really tough to frie a meatball while someone is talking about how nice the tangerines are. Very frustrating.

Just be glad that they talk about something other than politics and foreign relations. That is the only thing my father will talk about anymore...and he is rallying for the U.S. to go to war with Iraq soon, it seems...

Back to the topic for the clock: Helka: no, the clock merely states the time. I want to know when last the threads were posted on. There is nothing to tell you that, I do not think...

EDIT: Okay, I am blind: they do have what time the last post was. Never mind! smilies/wink.gif

I think talking about the weather never tires out. It's always different. Have you seen the weather today. It's sunny right now. Nice sun. Good sun. Yellow sun. I like the sun. Sun is good. Sun gives light and warmth. Nice sun.

Oh wait we are discussing BW clock. Ehm, good job! keep up the good work.
