Re: Where'd ya get that nick??
My name came about because trolls are stupid.
Quote:
"Lumme, if I knows! What are yer?"
"Bilbo Baggins, a bur-- a hobbit," said poor Bilbo, shaking and wondering how to make owl noises before they throttled him.
"A burrahobbit?" said they a bit startled. Trolls are slow in the uptake, and mighty suspicious about anything new to them.
"What's a burrahobbit got to do with my pocket, anyways?" said William.

I used to play MERP in the early eighties. My character`s name was Taimar. I thought that it sounded vaguely Tolkienish, although it does not have any meaning that I know of in any of his languages.

I was going to be Galbasi to evince my fondness for all things Gamgee. I thought it less presumptious to reference it tangentally. Then I realized that Galpsi has one less keystroke than Galbasi and that clinched it.

me name
In the early 80's I was part of a little 'Tolkien' group in the burb's outside of D.C.
We all took M.E. names mine was Lindil- 'lover of song' or so I thought -since looking into HoME I have some doubts . regardless , when I started posting here about the 'canon' I brushed it off after 20 or so years of neglect. A few days later I recieved in the mail an old weatherstained dark green Silmarillion from n old bandmate , I open the cover and low and behold 'lindil ' in thin and spidery letters. My original Hardback Silmarillion had comeback w/ out me knowing it was missing!

my name means 'which',accusativus,feminine,singular.
and the sig is simply the first 6 forms of the latin relative.
______________male___female_____neutral
nominativus____quis____quae_______quid
accusativus____quem___ quam_____quid
so it has no meaning at all,but it just sounds good.

Re: Where'd ya get that nick??
Some reasons why I took this alias I have:
- it's orcish, and I like orcs
- it means "Old Man", and age is something I respect greatly
- "Old Man" is somehow ironic for my person
- "Old Man" has an air of wisdom, and still decrepitude, infirmity, so to say
- it sounds nicely grim
- it refers to Saruman, one of the most interesting characters, and also a rebel
- it is a clear Tolkien reference, but not as obvious as others

- "Old Man" is somehow ironic for my person

Anyway, how did I get my nick?
Well, actually it simply popped out of the good, old name-generator. But since Maika means sharp some people came to the conclusion, that it fits perfectly for my rather sharp tongue, since I usually say what's on my mind. smilies/smile.gif
And Mithadan, like I said on another thread, I simply refuse to believe the translation of that nick fits very well. You're too young for that, my friend! smilies/biggrin.gif

Several people have already guessed correctly that "Orual" comes from C.S. Lewis' "Till We Have Faces," which I had just finished when I registered. I like the way it sounds, I liked the character, and I liked the fact that it started with an "O", because not many peoples' nicks start with an "O".

02-07-2003, 12:10 PM
I can't believe I haven't posted here so far. Well Balin is just one of my favourite characters, I can't really say why. Maybe because he was a close friend of Bilbo, maybe because I like the Dwarves and caves and all that, too. And the 999 is an upside down 666, which comes from a computer game I played where I wanted to be named Sauron666, which didn't work, so I became Sauron999.
There you go.

The Saucepan Man - hmmm...where *does* your nickname come from? smilies/smile.gif
I think I've explained mine once or twice before, but for those who haven't seen. My name (not legally, but the one everyone uses) is Mary, which phonetically jibes rather well with Merry Brandybuck, who also happens to be one of my favourite characters (co-favourite with Faramir). Merry or Mary seemed a little obvious, so I chose to go with the "real" Westron version of Meriadoc, which is Kalimac. So it's sort of a lame, inverted pun. But I'm happy with it.

My rather lame nickname is taken from the appendix. I wanted something to do with Pippin that would be feminine (yet practical...) and which wouldn't be all over the board in various versions (like Arwen, there are hundreds of Arwen something-or-others registered).
The 18 is my age, which, ironically, I slapped on because just "Diamond" was already taken. Yes, I'm an idiot, but once I decided on it I had to have it. I wish I had made it more personal and clever and catchy, though. Boooo hoooo hoooo. smilies/rolleyes.gif

Hurin and Turin are two of my three favorite characters, so I figured this name would cover them both.
And, Lush, you're dead on saying that you usually only get nick-names for bad rather than good qualities. I don't think I have ANY nicknames with good conotations! (and I can only think of one person, that *&^%@#, who only has good nicknames from the opposite sex)

And who might that be?? smilies/biggrin.gif
(I wasn't going to say anything, but you left the door open, lord. And those nicknames are earned, you gotta give me that.)
Here's an explanation of my BDs nick that I copied from a similar thread I posted on some time ago...
In elementary school I used to do all sorts of things to entertain my friends. I would steal chalk from the chalk board and books from the inside of my teacher's desk, and I'd always do it while the teacher was in the room watching us. I was slick. One time I went up to talk to the teacher at her desk and stole a book, a pencil holder, and her glasses off the desk while she was looking right at me and talking to me. I would always place these items on the teacher's desk the following day when she wasn't in the room, and I'd always have a sticky note attached that read "from the Phantom". Eventually a classmate blew the whistle on me and I got in trouble.
Later on, when I was in high school, the kids in my music theory and music composition courses started calling me 'phantom' because I was always singing or humming Phantom of the Opera tunes. (I love Phantom of the Opera) This nickname caught on with my friends because I was still known for doing all sorts of sneaky pranks and never getting caught.
I really liked the sound of "The Phantom", it sounds so mysterious, so I let everybody call me that and have used that name for e-mail and stuff ever since.
Gilthalion
02-11-2003, 09:35 AM
Long, long ago (before the Internet became the World Wide Web, or is that the other way around?) I wanted an Elvish translation of my name "Robert" which means "bright fame."
I didn't find anything that precisely corresponded (perhaps with today's resources it would be an easier task). I settled on Gilthalion: gil-star + thalion-stalwart.
I thought it sounded cool and that I would not find a duplication. +20 years and no dopplegangers, duplicates, clones, secret evil twins, or coincidences yet!

I got mine from the name generator here at the Barrow Downs. It is the female Elf version of my first name, though I realized I spelled it wrong, It should end -giel, NOT, -gel.
Oh well, it is still a cool nickname though smilies/cool.gif
Salix
02-23-2003, 06:10 PM
My nick comes from a rather unusual source. I was looking through a Latin dictionary that I got for Christmas a couple of years ago, and for some reason (Mostly cause my name sounds kinda dumb in Latin) I looked up willow, (Which is a cool name and I had a friend named Willow once) and found a nickname that was decent. (As supposed to 'caelum')

I don't think I have ANY nicknames with good conotations!
Before I finished school, I was called
"Horny Tom" (Thomas being my first name) by my classmates.
That was rather unfair....

I got mine by flipping through a random book on my computer desk many years ago while looking for something that wasn't taken, so I could get an email address. Oh, how such trivial decisions are fateful. I have yet to find another person with this nick anywhere on the internet.
By the way, for the (faultless, mind you) ignorant, here is what it comes from:
Tall ships and tall kings
Three times three.
What brought they from the foundered land
Over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
And one white tree.

Gayahithwen
03-01-2003, 04:37 PM
Ok, I'm really not original on this, but.. When I first found this site, I looked at the Name Generator, thought "hey, that's cool!" and typed my name into it, getting "Gayahithwen" from it.. then, it just sort of stuck, and when I decided to sign up for the forum, I couldn't come up with a better name, so.. smilies/rolleyes.gif Yeah, I used it.
Later on, I found out that it meant "awe-inspiring misty maiden".. and I'm pretty happy with that.. smilies/biggrin.gif
The Great Barrow Wright, or whoever made the name generator gave it to me.
Vardamar- the Confused Rohirrim
everythings great except the confused part.
but at least I'm not a dancing orc like my sister
Hhmm.. I'm no expert, but.. I think you've confused the "Who were you in Middle-Earth" with the name-meaning.. A quick search gave me this, though:
Varda - the Valier of the Stars.. Supposedly, her name means 'sublime' (in the sense of 'high' or 'lofty')
mar - "earth".. this could also be már, meaning "home, house"..
So, to me, your name seems to mean something more like "Of the house of Varda" or something like that.. smilies/rolleyes.gif As I already mentioned, I'm no expert..

I have absolutely no idea of where I got my nick, as I was half-asleep at the time I made it up, and desperate for ideas. I actually just wanted to bring this thread to the top, so that more people would post on it smilies/wink.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

tifo_gcs

Mine carries significance only to those of my friends who are as fanatical about soccer as I am. Lush might, with her love for Real now something about TIFO's, but UEFA has done much to eliminate them from the international football scene.
Anyway, the short definition of my nick is that TIFO is what I do for a hobby, GCS is who I am.
I wanted to register as Jaws 'cause that's another nick I have, and one of my friends has taken to calling me Jorge de (insert something spanish-sounding here) every time I walk into the room. He usually thinks of something new daily... most of my other Dansih friends call me Georg, using the danish pronounciation, and at work they call me Junior.... seems like the fine name of George is going out of fashion these days... I wonder why... smilies/rolleyes.gif
Silmarien
05-08-2003, 05:02 AM
Silmarien after the ancester of Elendil, Isildur and Aragorn. Eldest daughter of a King of Numenor, before the law was changed that would have made her Queen. But she married the first Lord of Andunie(a bay on the west side of Numenor)and from her line came the Elf friends, the faithful. I also really like it because of its meaning - Lady of the light of the two trees or Lady of the light of the sun and the moon.
I was really suprised when I signed up to find that it had not been already used, but very glad.

Mine came from the Chris Wetherell hobbitname generator--because I liked the sound of it better than BD's--and used my maiden name because otherwise I would have been a Hardbottle smilies/smile.gif--and "Peony Foxburr" was "of Loamsdowne." Which suits my avocation of digging in the dirt.
Yavanna228
05-09-2003, 07:58 PM
I suppose I chose mine because I like Yavanna, I like the sound of the name, and because I love the earth and its beauty. 228 are just some random numbers I tacked on the end, because 87, my birth year, just didn't look 'right' to me smilies/smile.gif So there is the etymology of my nickname...hurrah!

Lyra Greenleaf
05-11-2003, 01:26 PM
Simple explanation- I used it somewhere else and was in a rush to get posting!
In fact Lyra is from 'His Dark MAterials'- a fantastic trilogy by Philip Pullman which made me cry. And Lyra reminded me of me, in some ways, and I think it's a lovely naem. Greenleaf was pretty much a homage to Orlando Bloom, sad as it is to admit it! smilies/wink.gif

And as for my name... Sophia the Thunder Mistress was a nickname *cringes* given to me by a guy. I was looking for a name for Messenger, and he thought it up out of the blue. I find it apt, because I'm a philosophy major at school, and Sophia is rooted in the same word as philosophy (My greek is terrible, so I'm not going any farther into it than that). And the Thunder Mistress bit? Who doesn't want to chuck around lightning bolts at random smilies/biggrin.gif. I sure wouldn't mind.

Back when I was known as Athril on the chat! It feels like forever, I was such a teeny-bopper! Anyways, I was chatting with a bunch of people (I think Legolas was one of them) and we were talking about that name, Legolas, and how it ment Greenleaf. They said that Car was red, though I don't think that is accurate, but I changed it to Carlas, and have forever loved it!
Helkahothion
05-16-2003, 08:14 AM
How was this figured out anyway?
According to the bible, André is short for Andreas, and that means: The male, the strong. Vanimaedhel translated the biblic translation to elfish, (Queneyan I believe) and out came the word Anui- the ON is just a male ending to make it more name-like if you know what I mean. (they have a word for that, but I can't quite remember it.)
It's funny since André, and Anuion kinda resemble each other.

Thenamir
10-07-2003, 10:21 AM
"Thenamir" was originally made up right out of the blue, off the top of my head. It was before I had discovered chat, or RP (at the ancient age of 36...I led a deprived childhood). My daughter was doing a little real-time freeform RP with some friends, and I found it interesting enough to want to join in. But I had to have a nick in a hurry. I wanted something that sounded Gondorian in origin, and so applied a mixture of letters from my real first name (known only to a select few) with the suffix "-mir" as in Faramir and Boromir -- hence "Thenamir"
It was not until many months afterwards that I asked an elvish expert (Sharku) whether there might be an actual meaning to the name. The "mir" suffix, of course, means "jewel", but "Thena" was tougher to parse. Sharku however came up with a couple of near-hits: "thina" (meaning "grey", hence, "thinamir", "grey-jewel") or possibly a corrupted pronunciation of "tinta" (meaning "sparkling", hence "tintamir", "sparkling-jewel"). Of course, any meaning assigned to the made-up name is purely coincidental, but it's nice to know I wasn't completely off-base in my chosen nick.

Ah, some of these are very interesting. Good thread. <3.
My nickname is one that I've used many different places. For a while, it was what I registered with everywhere. QuickSlash was two different RP characters for me: one was a wildcat for a few lovely Redwall RPGs, and the other was a cheetah to go with a seperate char for a Ronin Warriors RPG. The Ronin Warriors one is still going, and I just posted there today. <3.

10-09-2003, 03:10 PM
Well, it would have been nice to have had an elvish translation for my name that I really, really liked. Still searching...
Anyway, well, when I saw the movies and read the books, Aragorn stuck out as a really great character and one that I could identify with - or at least strive to be like. (So did Faramir, but by the time I got to that part in the books, Aragorn had become ingrained as my favorite [and FaramirIsHere just didn't have the same ring to it :P ]. Although, Faramir is probably a closer representation of me. He seems more human and lighter than noble Aragorn).
Anywaaaay, to actually get to the point, aragornreborn just sort of popped into my head. So here I am!

As to my name, is it really that hard? smilies/rolleyes.gif I constantly regret the fact that I tried to divide the words with an underscore, not knowing that for once in a lifetime this wonderful forum would actually allow me to have spaces in my name. But I guess the underscore serves to divide me from the scores of other Luthiens and Tinuviels haunting this ghostly barrow.
LePetitChoux, I've always loved your nick. I like cabbage, too. Are you French, by any chance? You look rather European.

Naurwen=Fire Maiden.
I'm a maiden and I love fire, so I found it quite fitting. I did a lot (read 'a bit') of work to get that!
And at the time of making the nick I was going through an "Wow, Elves and Lothlorien are great!" phase. So Naurwen of Lothlorien.
Plus I think it's fun to say outloud. Go on, say it. You know you want to. See, didn't that feel nice?
It's quite funny actually, because I'm a hobbit with an elf name. How pretty. And I'm actually of Hobbiton, not Lothlorien.
Hmmm...

Elfwine, son of Eomer, prince of the Golden Hall. Real original, I know. What can I say? My muse was on a coffee break.

Yours is more original than mine, Elfwine. I'm just one of the many, many Tinuviels...I should have gone with Akedhi, but I hadn't made her up yet. (At least Akedhi doesn't lend itself to such awful nicknames. Like 'Tinny.' smilies/rolleyes.gif )
The Denton is the name of one of the towns where I've lived.

MLD-Grounds-Keeper-Willie
10-31-2003, 05:27 AM
I think I posted on a similar thread, but whatever.
The Grounds-Keeper-Willie part is easy. The Simpsons is my favorite show and Willie is one of my favorite characters. His name somewhat represents me since I'm Irish, and Willie (who's Scottish) was the closest character to being Irish. As for putting dashes in between, I did that because I didn't know if groundskeeper was one word or not and I just wanted to register.
As for the MLD, it is what my close friends and I call each other. At first we were called the Cigarette Crew. Our other friends who we drank with on the weekends called us that. Whenever we would come to a spot in the park at night and they were already there, they would see the little red dots from the tips of our cigarettes and when one of them would ask, "Who is that?" another friend would shout out, "It's the Cigarette Crew!" Well, after a while, a couple more of us became close friends, but not all of use smoked. So we decided that we needed a name for us that actually represented us (even though we are sometimes called by that name). We all drank 40's, and almost always they were malt liquor. So we called ourselves Malt Liquor Drinkers; MLD.
And that's how I got my nickname.

I got my name from combining Odd (which I am) and Wen (elvish for maiden, which I am also) and got Oddwen. My fake last name is Floddball, if anyone wanted to care. smilies/rolleyes.gif

Haha! One more person got fooled by my nickname, and thought that I was a guy. This is becoming infinitely amusing!
You aren't?!?! GASP!!!
Nah, just kidding. I first read it in Elvish Insults.
Oddwen Floddball...interesting...
Later days! smilies/cool.gif

P.S. GASP = Go Away, Shocking Person!

Feanor of the Peredhil
12-12-2003, 02:35 PM
Ah... My name... Feanor of the Peredhil. It's got a long, complicated and slightly embarrassing history.
My brother showed me the 'Downs a couple years back and I eventually decided to register. (At this time I had never read the Silmarillion). I couldn't think of a name, although now I can think of a half dozen better... so I found a list of Elvish words online. I saw the name Feanor and that it meant Fiery Spirit, or thereabouts, and I thought "hahaha... everybody thinks I'm a pyro and i do enjoy causing mischief. Perfect." So there is the Feanor part. Of course it helped that my said brother complained about me picking a 'boy' name... I could have done Feanorwen... but NO!
As for "of the Peredhil", I was in the midst of a stage where all of my creative writing had characters of something (ex: Princess Miriam Anamaeri Julietta Serafina of Ayvieron). So I decided to give tribute to all of the Half-Elves out there and stick that in there. And Voila! The history of my name.
I just make it simpler and go by Fea on here...

I was reading the Silmarillion and the story of Aredhel Ar Feiniel relly touched me. And ive been a fan of hers ever since.

i just got this one coz i knew no one else had it!
Pyroclastic
01-20-2004, 04:44 PM
Pyroclastic: Extrusive volcanic rock fragments, such as volcanic ash (pyroclastic ash) or volcanic bombs. At least, thats what I understood during the five minitues I payed attention in Goelogy 101. I know how geologists love to prove they know more than everybody else, so go ahead, if you feel so inclined.
Pyroclastic is sort of related to Mt. Doom exploding, so it's Tolkien enough to work. And as an added bonus, you can call me Pyro for short! (My nickname from Chemistry Lab, you don't want details!) And as an added added bonus, I get to have an absolutly amazing avatar!
Flames! ~Pyro~
Elrond of Rivendell
01-20-2004, 05:04 PM
Hmmm ... if I remember correctly, Elrond was some character from Tolkien's works smilies/biggrin.gif
No, I always liked him best, but unfortunaley as I registered only last month the real "Elrond" was already taken, so I had to add "of Rivendell".

I actually used to be Tinuviel87, which I was rather fond of. Tinuviel as I quite adore Luthien, and 87 as it's the year I was born. But I had to reregister so I took my name from one of my favorite poems by Sylvia Plath (no, it's not from the Disney movie smilies/tongue.gif )And now it's stuck and I use it all the time. I often wish I had a more Elvish name though... smilies/biggrin.gif

Well, I fooled one more person today with my very male nick! smilies/biggrin.gif
I think it's absolutely great how people somehow impose certain qualities of the name that you chose (if you chose the name of a character) upon you. For example, I've actually met a couple of people who thought that I was a man, and married, to boot! I'm not married, and I'm most definitely NOT a man! smilies/biggrin.gif

Hah! Cinderella, we're the same age. I'm an 87 to.
I just found this great only elvish dictionary and I found out what my nick means finally. By the way, I got it from the name generator. Aina=holy serke=blood and of course wen=maiden. I think that's kind of cool. Who made the name generator names anyway? Was it Sharku or the BW or both or what?

The name generator gave me Nuryavie, which is v. beautiful, but I don't know what it means so I didn't want to use it. smilies/tongue.gif

not sure if I've already posted here, but mine comes from the dark corridors of my demented brain. I like Elves, I have pointy ears and I just thought it was creative. (apparently a lot of people do too, since many have stole my name on other sites. smilies/mad.gif )

Eorl of Rohan
01-27-2004, 08:49 PM
Well, mine is pretty obvious. Eorl is my FAVORITe character from all Tolkien's works.
I first tried for Eorl the Young, but found it was taken. Then I tried "Eorl of the field of Celebrant" but it was too long and I could not spell Celebrant.
Technically my name is not correct because the land was only named Rohan after Eorl aided Gondor in the battle of Celebrant - but I liked the sound of the name, so I took it.
By the way, my roleplay character's name is Ferethor - guess how I made it? My next two favorite characters Faramir and Denethor combined.
Saraphim
02-03-2004, 05:16 PM
My nick is not Tolkien-related at all. I came across it in my vague studies and liked it.
'saraphim', or, actually, 'saraph' is a very old word for angel, in either hebrew, latin or sanskrit. 'saraphim' is actually the plural form, and that is why i signature my PM's with Saraph.
It might sound familiar because one of the characters in The Matrix (two and three)is named Saraph, which I thought was a nice touch, considering how bad the last two were. But that is another story.
Imladris
02-03-2004, 09:48 PM
I have finally decided to tell everybody why I chose "Imladris" for my name:
1. Elwing was already taken *downcast look and sigh*
2. I've always liked Rivendell and I remembered that Imladris was the elvish word Rivendell (and, in my most humble opinion, Imladris sounds better).
3. For somer reason the line, "Seek for the sword that was broken, in Imladris it dwells" was stuck in my head that entire day...
4. I could spell it with ease... smilies/tongue.gif No offense to anyone present. smilies/tongue.gif smilies/wink.gif
Sleepy Ranger
02-11-2004, 04:46 AM
Well I've decided I won't keep it a secret anymore.
Well I like rangers that made the second part of my name.
Now the Sleepy is a long story. I'll make it short.
I went three consecutive days sleeping in class in Physics without getting caught and thus was given the nick of Sleepy. And I was president of the Sleepers Club  until I finally gave uo my good hobbit....ooops habbit. And so I put 'em together and got Sleepy Ranger
Thorongil
02-12-2004, 04:52 AM
It's quite obvious, but if you haven't guessed it, my nick is one of Aragorns names, meaning "Eagle of the Star". He used this name in his earlier travels of Gondor and Rohan.
Sam's Amy
02-12-2004, 01:26 PM
This nickname is actually a new one for me as I used to go by Arathiriel here, a name I got from the generator and never really cared for after I found out my real name is more closely translated to Meldewen...
Anyway, you would think I'd use Meldewen as my handle - well recently on another group I am in I started using Sam's Amy since I love the character of Samwise Gamgee so much in LOTR - and thus you know now why I use the nickname Sam's Amy !

Gt mine from the Elvish name generator. I never knew actually how to say it though. My friend asked me what my nickname was on the downs and I went 'Pher..er..something along those lines' I had to write it down for them.

My name on the generator is Girithlaith. I used a Translator and found that girith means horror. Can anyone help me with the rest?

02-13-2004, 07:01 PM
I choosed my nick due to lack of fantasy. It was entering a chat room in Norway and saw that it was an Aragorn there.
Since than I have used it on everything. Even on my hotmail adress. But I think I will change it to the name that the generator gave me, which is Amantalatwen. Anyone who now's what that mean ?
Kransha
02-13-2004, 08:12 PM
Funny story actually...well, more complicated than funny.
It originated in a discussion with my friends about names of bizarre creatures. We had discussed already existent mythological beasts with weird names, but soon made up some of our own. We had a strange name for an aquatic animal called a Hsnark, which is a lot like shark with re-arranged letters. We were also discussing orc names and how to get them, combining black speech words and suffixes I had in my posession. My friend concluded that good names for orcs were verb titles like Smiter, Smasher, and Crunsher or some such thing. We then intertwined the two discussions, contemplating how our orc, Zhuzbluk the Crunsher, would react to being eaten by a Hsnark. Somehow, during this discussion, I realized that "A hsnark" is "Kransha" spelled backwards, which was awfully similar to Crunsher. Weird coincidence. For some reason, I've loved that name ever since.
Alexus Varus
02-14-2004, 12:07 AM
I created my name from Varus, the Roman general of the Germany disaster In A.D. 9 where he lead 3 liegions of troops throught the woods and the barbarians killed them all... Dont ask me why i liked the guy, he was foolish, but on the other hand, he did have a cool name, plus he reminds me of Denethor. I put Alexus before it becuase it sounded like a cool Romanish name.

i was here a long time ago under the name of mossy, which was short for mossflower, which was a fantasy series i was reading at the time. but, one day, i came back with my sister under the name of mossy. well, the operator didn't like us very much, because we weren't talking about lotr, and he kicked both of us. so we couldn't come back in as our old names. i was talking to my sister on a different channel and i asked her what my new name should be. and she made a reference to the movie, empire records, where warren gets kicked out of the store and he shouts "i'll be back and you'll be sorry!" warren was the stupid, obnoxious, minor of the movie, so it wasn't a very good character to take after or anything, but i thought it would be funny to take the name anyway. so i did. and it sort of stuck. so that's where my name comes from.

Maeggaladiel
05-13-2004, 02:00 PM
I got my name via the name generator here at the Downs. As far as I can tell, it translates to "Woman of Piercing Radiance." Wishful thinking, mind you, since I'm anything but radiant, but sounds so pretty. It kinda rolls off the tongue. Maeggaladiel. Maeee-gaaa-laaa-deee-uuuhhl. Yeah.
~Maeg
Oh yeah, and it looks neat when you shorten it to "Maeg."
Eowyn Skywalker
05-13-2004, 08:36 PM
I'm still not quite sure where Eowyn Skywalker came from, but I am her, and she is me! Me... me... me...
Okay, as far as I can tell, apart from the obvious, I wanted a 'crossdimention' user name, is this:
For my birthday, I dressed up as Eowyn.
For my brother's birthday, I dressed up as Darth Maul. I became Darth Eowyn. This was before I came to the Downs... However, on fanfiction.net, I was Elf with a lightsaber, to be more exact, the Elf who stole Luke Skywalker's lightsaber. Also the elf with Luke Skywalker as a co-author later on. However, I love tormenting Luke, by telling him that I am his mother, which came from the fact that I think Anakin is cute. Yeah, I know... So, when I went to get an Email addy, somehow Eowyn Skywalker came from all this... (coughmybrotherislukeifthatmeansanythingtoyoucough ) And well, it sounded cool, reflected my love of Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars, so it clicked, I used it here, and now I'm quite known as Eowyn Skywalker. Everyone likes the name, and the pic, which I HAD to make to become Eowyn Skywalker. So yeah, that's that.
I am odd, but none of the name that the generators came up make any sense, anyhow.
So Eowyn Skywalker I am, and I am Eowyn Skywalker.
-Eowyn Skywalker, obviously
Quicksilver_Sprite
05-13-2004, 09:45 PM
Well, all the names supplied by the name generator sounded peculiar and quite unpronouncable, so I just decided to go for something rather elven, or faerie-like. Sounds cool too.
Quicksilver_Sprite, who has awful eyesight! :p

I just took my elven name out of the name generator.... there were already too many Sam's and Gamgee's. It sounds rather boring now....
Ophelia
06-02-2004, 02:02 AM
I have to confess - I am in love with Shakespeer . And I do not know why , but Ophelia is my favorite female charecter and name out of all his works . So I got my nickname . Not too original or anything , but I just like the way it sounds .
Ophelia
Sirithheruwen
06-14-2004, 08:24 AM
Sirithheruwen also came from the name generator. I know, sooooo original. (My voice is dripping with sarcasm.)
If I could pick any other name, however, it would be The Dark Chocolate of the Night which my friends call me at school, due to my *cough*friends*cough* Hershey sweeatshirt that I...ahem...borrow. Too bad you can't change your name. *shuffles off the stage*
Eomer of the Rohirrim
06-15-2004, 07:33 AM
Well, when I first joined I tried about 100 different names but I wasn't allowed any of them, or so I thought. The name wasn't the problem, it was the fact that I had put the same email address which I had used for a previous identity. When I finally realised that it was the address and not the name, I changed the address and left the name (which would have been the 100th different name I tried) and all of a sudden I had an account with that name!
Ever since then I've been called Eomer of the Rohirrim. I have a love-hate relationship with the name. It is very bitty and awkward, yet at the same time I have grown used to it and even fond of it, and Eomer is one of my favourite characters anyway.
symestreem
07-13-2004, 09:52 AM
This is actually my second BD account. I was trying to make the account name 'Tasarewen', and I used as the password the last name of a character; unfortunately, I didn't read the field labels carefully enough. Hence, I ended up with 'symestreem' as my publicly displayed name.
