Wow. We're really come a long way. It's a shame we're not hearing stuff like this nowadays!

Indeed, Perky, but can you imagine if every member had his own welcoming page? The space involved is alarming. I am assuming that's why we now have a general newbies welcoming page... You register, you head in that general direction, introduce yourself, and get a nice hardy welcome from some oldsters. Not quite as personalized, but still nice and cheerful.

I know, but I'm not talking about every member. I'm talkin, every 1,000th member. Maybe in Mirth...

One problem is that too many Downers just disappear after a day and never return.

One problem is that too many Downers just disappear after a day and never return. I agree. A quick check in the Member's List shows that roughly 1040 out of 2038 have 25 posts or fewer. That's more than half!

The list of members is deceiving. I was member 2888 and that was when I joined over two years ago.

Yes, there's loads of registered users. vBulletin should develop some sorta filter system, where if a account is inactive for 4 months, it deletes it. It would give you warnings, so if you still wanted to downs, it wouldn't destory your account. Hmm, that is an idea. I should write a letter...

There is a filter - the mods and admins on the site. The actual number of people who [at least] joined must be round 13-14K now.

We were at 10,000 on December 26, 2003 (http://69.51.5.41/showpost.php?p=131723&postcount=80). The average of registering was 10 per day back than, which gives approximate of 12,400 members for now. But most of the number just register, and never appear thence. So our beloved mods have to hand-clean inactive accounts

cheers

One of the more taxing parts of the job I suspect!

Well, if they made a filter, mods wouldn't have to do that! If I fix this, maybe I'll win a mod-bell peace prize...

I think I would still have it the manual way. That way people who are gone for vacation -- say 4 months like you said would be able to come home and find their membership intact.

But then again making it automatic CAN be useful. For now I'm proud of our dedicated mods for keeping the barrows swept cleen.
