Well it may have took me a great deal of time but I have just read through the last several pages of text before adding my own. I don't think its likely I will be able to post without copying someone somewhere so sorry if it happens but, bah- what are you going to do?
Name (that you go by): Oh good, an easy one to start, my name is Matt. Also known as, surprise surprise, Matthew.
Age: 18
Occupation: Full time student and holy Mother of God is it boring.
Future Aspirations: I have absolutely no idea. Seriously, my mind is just blank. I think my life is just made up of doing short term things over and over till I die. But I don't mind that, keeps me on my toes.
Goal in life: Invent a cure for cancer/AIDS, be a singer in a massive rock group, score the winning goal in the FA Cup Final, you know, the usual.
Short term goals: Passing my A Levels with an A in history and B's in English Lit. and Business Studies thus securing my passage into Sheffield University.
Passion: My girlfriend Charlee, she is my soulmate and 99% of my passion is towards her. The remaing 1% is split up into too many things to mention.
Hobbies: Football- thats 'soccer' to you Americans, not that game of rugby where the guys wear pillows under their shirts that you seem to think is football.
Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): Me? Famous? Nothing much, I am quite good at reciting lines and jokes from things such as The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy and The Mr Hell Show although I don't really think that would go down well on a CV. Hmm, my great-grandfather played for the England football team a few times as well as Manchester United. Hmm, thats not really me though, I guess I am famous for wearing baggy combats with loads of tassels and listening to my music very loud and I don't really expect to be knighted for it.
Fave book: Apart from the Tolkien books I have enjoyed Lord of the Flies by Golding, To Kill a Mockingbird, a range of Terry Pratchett as well as a few old plays including Dr. Faustus by Marlowe.
Fave movie: My favourite film of all time would have to be Aliens, I just love it so much, Bill Paxton is the coolest guy who ever lived. I love movies so much! Some of my most loved are: Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, The Shawshank Redemption, The Usual Suspects, Austin Powers, Pulp Fiction, Resivior Dogs, Predator, Terminator Two, Singing in the Rain and of course LotR: FotR and TTT.
Fave sport: Football- the one you play with your feet- pay attention America!
Fave store: A little place downtown- The Forum, baggy clothes, good coffee better music and the best rock-metal-punk-ska-hip-hop nightclub in the region right next door. Try beating £1 a bottle and 50p a shot with great bands playing! Go on, try it... nevermind smilies/rolleyes.gif
Fave music: Okay lets see here, should be quite substantial. Incubus, Limp Bizkit (bad but still good), Audioslave, Rage Against The Machine, Lit, System of a Down, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Hundred Reasons, Korn, The Hives, Nirvana, Green Day, NOFX, Less Than Jake, Nonpoint, Radiohead, POD, Spineshank, New Found Glory, Weezer, Red Hot Chilli Peppers- you get the general idea right?
What you can't stand: Comercialsed rap, man that justs get to me- die Ja Rule die!
What you plain dislike: Ignorant people, I feel a mixture of anger at them, angry that they are ignorant and angry that they have not been given a good education.
Who you admire: Right now, that OAP who was arrested in South Afica by the FBI who had him confused with one of the world's most dangerous men. He was basically tortured for two weeks before being realsed by the Feds. The guy looks nothing like the one he was mistaken for and I hope he sues the asses off the Bureau.
What you most love to do: Spend time with my girlfriend.
Your self-confessed flaws: Because I am tall I am really clumsly sometimes which is a pain!
What intrigues/fascinates you: Other cultures, and how they don't know anything about your own. For example when I went to America I basically knew what American life was like for the majority due to American films and TV. I found out that Americans have basically got no clue about the rest of the world- no offence intended but I discovered a startling statistic- only 1 in 10 Americans own a passport smilies/eek.gif
What scares you: Clowns and old people.
Quotation to live by: Eat and be merry for tomorrow we diet.

Mattius- You and I have a lot of things in common! First of all we both like LotR (duh), and I LOVE!!!! System of a Down (especially Steal This Album) and most of the bands you mentioned, as well as the fact that I despise all rap. I am one in ten Americans... I own and have used a passport. I travelled the entire British Isles two summers ago! And clowns scare the fool out of me.
Our class has just finished To Kill A Mockingbird; it is a good book! A classic.
Violin kicks butt,

System of a Down are great, I saw them last year in Manchester- very cool! Mockingbird, we had to do that at GCSE when I was 15 and I hated it but now I appriciate it more and consider it to be a classic book.

Brinniel
03-07-2003, 05:40 PM
Ok, here I go updating again because I just always seem to change my mind about myself.
Name (that you go by): Erin, which is Nire backwords, but you can call me Brinniel or just plain Brinn
Age: Too young (I'll be 15 in less than 4 months). Haha, I finally told.
Occupation: freshman in high school
Future Aspirations: to become a successful screenwriter
Goal in life: to be happy....though an Academy Award would be nice...
Short term goals: to do well in my dance competitions and not screw up my next orchestra test
Passion: dance, violin, writing, drawing
Hobbies: look above
Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): Can't say that I'm famous for anything. I am very shy and invisible to those around me. During my math class one day, I actually had someone ask me if I was new to the school. I've been going there for 3 years! But to my friends, I am known for obsessing over LOTR (Why shouldn't I? )
Fave book: LOTR, The Silmarillion (I'm still reading it though), The Shannara Series, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, Speak
Fave movie: FOTR, Moulin Rouge, Rat Race, Monsters Inc, Chicago, My Big Fat Greek Wedding (considering that I’m part Greek), Urban Legend, MI2
Fave sport: Dance, of course!
Fave store: Barnes and Noble, Circuit City (for cds), Blockbuster (I'm a movie freak)
Fave music: Blink 182, Eminem, Avril Lavigne, TLC, Monica, Kelly Clarkson, Sheila Chandra, Enya, Green Day, Norah Jones, Nelly Furtado, several different soundtracks, and a variety of techno music
What you can't stand: my history teacher (groan), visual gore (I don't mind reading and hearing about it), slackers in school, people who drool over Legolas, the fact that Wal-mart lives in my neighborhood
What you plain dislike: people who put smoking and drinking ahead of other things in life, anyone who does drugs (illegal ones), blonde ditzy cheerleaders who have no brains (we have plenty of those at my school)
Who you admire: Nando Parrado. He is one of the 16 survivors who crashed in the Andes Mountains in 1972 and lived there for 70 days. In the crash, he lost his mother, sister, and best friend, and almost died himself. But he recovered and become one of the strongest of the survivors who actually helped save his friends. I admire Nando because before the crash he was a young, shy boy, and came out of the Andes as a strong, courageous man who took the role as the leader of the group.
What you most love to do: dance, write, draw, spend time at the Barrow Downs
Your self-confessed flaws: I'm obessive and am a terrible procrastinator.
What intrigues/fascinates you: darkness, night, mysterious things, morbid subjects (is that too weird?)
What scares you: spiders, things that pop out of nowhere
Quotation to live by: Whatever's on my monthly sig.
Additional comments: I unfortunately, am one of the 9 who do not have a passport. I dream of living in England and traveling the world, but right now my family is a little lacking in money. :( I am truly sorry if I do not know enough about everyone’s culture as it is rather isolated here in Idaho (where there is absolutely no culture), but I do like to study exotic cultures.

Hey Brinn I didn't mean any offence by the 1 in 10 thing about passport owning Americans! All was saying was that I was surprised with the stat as here in the UK I can't think of anyone who doesn't have one but then again flights out of the USA to another continent are way more expensive than flights throughout Europe. I saw a ticket offer in the paper yesterday to fly from Manchester to Paris for £2!

*Falls over backwards* 2£?! That's like $3.00 here! I could never find a flight that cheap to Utah (which, by the way, is much closer to where I am than Manchester is to Paris)! That is amazing.
Brinniel- WHAT ORCHESTRA TEST?! Is it over that... ugh... Serenade for Strings?
Nire backwards... haha! I remember... my name is Enirehtac, or Tac for short.

what you plain dislike: heavy smokers
Well, I only smoke heavily on special occasions, so...
and drinkers,
*hides*
teens (or anyone) who do drugs,
What kind of drugs are we talking about here? All drugs (coffee included?), or a few select varities?
cheerleaders
Oh no! I was a cheerleader for an entire year once! *hides deeper*

Don't feel bad about not having experienced the world yet; the world is mostly crap anyway...No, seriously, the Barrow-Downs community is definitely more diversified than most, and I think you should enjoy the interactions with all of us foreigners and/or globe-trotters, without having to feel bad about yourself. You are so young, of course you're going to get out and travel, just because the time hasn't come doesn't mean as if you should feel that your life is somehow less interesting, or something.

Let me clear something up. I do not dislike being popular, because I like having people like me, but I do dislike people who are not themselves, or be someone else to be popular.
See, there is this girl in my class who is absultely the most popular. Everyone thinks that she is cool, everyone likes her. Except me. She acts fake, and that turns me off. So, I don't dislike popularity or people who are popular, but people who are fake. There.
Oh, and I don't think I'm the typical thirteen year old music wise. I like Beethoven and Schubert and Handel and Brhams and Chopin and Bach and you name it! I grew up in a classical music household. Though, I do like several older rock groups very much. My Dad gave me that. Sooooo... The classical masters, and Queen. Oh, and Avril. smilies/biggrin.gif

Brinniel
03-18-2003, 05:44 PM
Let's see... I've danced for 12 years and I take ballet, tap (I actually quit that 2 years ago), jazz , lyrical, and hip hop. Next month I plan to audition for my high school's dance/drill team, which I am very excited for.
(Do you live in the PNW area, Hirilaelin? I'm wondering because I go to an annual dance camp in Twin Fall, ID that is regional. Perhaps you've heard of it?)
I've changed my bio a bit. I'll just post the portion I changed here:
Who you admire: Nando Parrado. He is one of the 16 survivors who crashed in the Andes Mountains in 1972 and lived there for 70 days. In the crash, he lost his mother, sister, and best friend, and almost died himself. But he recovered and become one of the strongest of the survivors who actually helped save his friends. I admire Nando because before the crash he was a young, shy boy, and came out of the Andes as a strong, courageous man who took the role as the leader of the group.
I read the book, Alive for school recently and it has changed my perspective on life suddenly. It's such an amazing and spiritual book, and as you can see, it has gotten me a new admirer.

Yes, Sophia, that's the way I feel. I get a sick feeling in my stomache every time someone says "that's the way the real world works". I DON'T WANT TO LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD!! I love my college life!! I'm shooting hoops with my buddies instead of studying, stringing along several girls instead of being locked up in a marraige, and reading Tolkien when I should be reading my textbook. Wow! You must be really good. I'm not that great, can't even do a decent single on pointe, and doubles are pushing it on flat. *sigh* But I love it anyway! And yes, what is street dancing? Oh I'm so happy, I rarely ever meet other dancers on the net! Serious ones anyway.

At least you can do pointe, Hirilaelin. I have weak ankles and so after only six months of pointe, my teacher wouldn't let me take pointe anymore. I also have to admit that I'm not that flexible (it is rare times that I can do the splits).
Unfortunately, I had bad training as a dancer and it wasn't until 2 1/2 years ago that I realized this. Since then, I have been told by others that I have improved greatly and I have been proud of myself for this.
My sister has been my inspiration for dance. I began dancing because she was dancing first and I always tryed to imitate her when I was little. When she was my age (14), she was not that strong of a dancer, but now she is completely amazing. She could dance professionally on Broadway or in one of those Fosse shows if she wanted to.
Wow....look how much I rambled on about dance. Sorry, all you non-dancers. I guess I tend to get carried away at times.

I have pretty weak ankles too Brinniel, and at first I couldn't do much. I still sometimes have problems when I'm going across the floor. I'll step up into aragbesque, then the ankle goes. Did your teachers have you do pointe on flat for a bit, then move you up to the shoes, or did you just start right off? Pointe on flat is really hard, and strenghtens you immensely. My teachers also recommended using Thera-Bands for strengthening weak ankles, you could try that, it helps.
And flexible? I really wish I was. Only on rare occasions am I able to do the splits, and only after a lot of stretching. The only thing that's flexible is my back, and I spent about a year working on it. And have you noticed that at home, you can do the combination, and do brilliant turns, but in class, you just can't? It's sooooo annoying.
On the same note as Brinniel, sorry for my chatter on dance, I also get carried away! smilies/tongue.gif

Did your teachers have you do pointe on flat for a bit, then move you up to the shoes, or did you just start right off?
Everything I did on pointe was pretty much barre work, though I did go across the floor flat on pointe shoes before. I've also used Thera-Bands, though only briefly. It was also only a half hour class; not nearly long enough to do anything. I haven't taken pointe since two years. My teacher wouldn't let me go back to the class (she thought I'd hurt myself). So, I guess I kind of gave up on pointe.

Well, Eressie, your rating should now be back up a bit. smilies/wink.gif
That's right, Daniel! That's the thread! I posted on it a few times too, and agreed with most of your comments. You were right in saying that not everyone has the same definition of greatness. Some people weigh certain characteristics more heavily than others. I did a little chart a few months ago with all of the major characters on it (from Manwe to Melkor, Frodo to Turin). On this chart I weighed six major variables that I considered to be my definition of greatness (gave the characters points on each one depending on how much of the variable they displayed), and Feanor beat Luthien.
Actually, I think I killed that thread. Well, maybe not, but I did have the last post (one defending Feanor). Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
So, Daniel, have you checked to see what you missed while you were away? We had a great thread going on the Vanyar and Noldor, I think you'd find it interesting. Here it is- http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003009&p=

But seriously, I wish that I would've become a LOTR freak at a much earlier age. Before I was 16 I didn't have much of a social life (because I didn't have a car to go places), so I would've had time to read all of Tolkien's books several times during those years. Instead, I just watched TV. You kids don't fully realize how lucky you are to know Tolkien at an early age.

Well, Earwen, you have won the title of youngest downer I think. Gimli Son Of Gloin was youngest before he was banned, and he was 12 I think. Man, I thought I was doing well at joining at 13...

"The Hobbit" was possibly one of the first books ever heard by myself, and one of my first chapter books. The cover has now fallen off from overuse. I recieved a copy of LotR for my ninth (I think it was ninth) birthday, tried it, and stopped reading within the first page. But, when I heard that FotR was coming out as a movie, I hurridly read the book, and convinced my poor mother to read the entire trilogy to the rest of my family, which she actually did! And for an even bigger surprise, they all listened, even my Dad! smilies/eek.gif I take pride in telling people that I've "converted," my family.

To Hirilaelin and Brinniel: I know this was two pages ago but Street Dancing is basically the type of dance you mainly see on music videos. Its what we call it in England anyway. You have national compitions and everything, its really good. Also, I am not that good, you should see some of the other people in National Youth Ballet they are so good. But anyway, I seem to have a problem with my knees. A few people in my dance school seem to have that problem. One girl dislocated her knee while doing pointe, she did it right in front of me, it was awful!
Hirilaelin

I know what you mean. There's this dancer a little over a year older than me, and I swear she can do anything. I also go to a studio where most of the dancers are very flexible. I'm so envious of them.
One girl dislocated her knee while doing pointe
Ooh, my sister could tell you about her experiences with that. She now has to tape her knee so it won't dislocate while she's dancing. Right now, she has been dancing with a stress fracture in her shin. I think my sister is cursed (she's always either sick or injured).

DaughterofVana
04-21-2003, 02:09 PM
*****
Name (that you go by): Rebecca, but it gradually gets shortened every time it is used, so it's 'Becca, then Beck, then finally just B ... I don't know. People are weird. smilies/smile.gif
Age: 18
Occupation: college student @ SFA
Future Aspirations: To get a B in Com 101. Past that I haven't really thought about it. Well, I have, but...
Goal in life: Really? To become stronger in my Christianity. It's already grown by leaps and bounds since coming to college, and it seems the farther I come, the more I see that I have so much yet to learn. I also want to get married and have children someday ... I would be happy just being June Cleaver, even though that sounds so anti-women's rights. I could see myself baking cookies. smilies/smile.gif
Short term goals: To get a B in Com 101. To actually do some schoolwork instead of just crap around on the computer. smilies/rolleyes.gif
Passion: music, writing, my Lord
Hobbies: writing, guitar, rock-climbing, making a fool of myself in front of boys, scribbling in my journal, listening to music, swooning over musicians, and making sand castles
Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): I've always been the teacher's pet. I'm also the person you talk to when you are having problems.
Fave book: LOTR and assorted Tolkien crap (hehe), "Mere Christianity" by CS Lewis (that book brought me back) and several of his other essays, "The Chronicles of Narnia" by CS Lewis (I read them for the first time a couple months ago... I missed out on a lot of stuff when I was a child)
Fave movie: Ferris Buller's Day Off, if I'm made to choose
Fave sport: hang-gliding
Fave store: Pac Sun. I'm a fiend for their sale racks
Fave music: if you can perform it live and do a good job, I like it. smilies/smile.gif I've become a Bono fanatic, though. And I grew up on old rock and folk music from the 60s and 70s
What you can't stand: hypocrites. Self-serving individuals. Gossips ("small minds discuss people,") and people who leer. People who are mean to retail personell. ppl who dont even tri to spel or use puncuaton and arrogance in all its many forms. People who SNORE smilies/smile.gif
What you plain dislike: hypocrites.
Who you admire: people who have a stronger faith than I do (which are a lot of people). My mother and father.
What you most love to do: write. And even though it sounds trite, witness. I really love my faith, and I love telling people about it.
Your self-confessed flaws: I'm hypocritical, doubtful, impatient, and very obvious about what I'm feeling at the time. I also have a lot of fear within me, but not as much as I used to have
What intrigues/fascinates you: nature and the interaction between her and her Creator. There is so much beauty in this world, so much perfection in even the smallest of things, that I can't find a reason to disprove the existance of a Maker
What scares you: that something may happen to the people that I love. I'm not afraid to die, but I'm afraid of hurting them by my passing; my family means everything to me.
Quotation to live by: "fear is not of God." -M.M. (but I'm sure she got it from the Bible somewhere) "It is not that God waits for us to be in difficulty before revealing Himself, but that we are oftentimes more receptive to his voice when in pain."
Additional comments:
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God. the Holy One of Israel, your Savior." Isaiah 43:1-3
No one said that becoming a Christian would solve all your problems. Indeed, life became harder after I really became in-depth in my faith. But the difference is, you won't be alone like you were before. With the Father at your back, the Son at your side, and the Spirit in your heart, you can do anything. You don't have to fear anyone, you don't have to doubt (though you still do fear and doubt; it is your nature); nothing can touch you. Why are you so angry? Why do you refuse? Why do you close your eyes to the Light?

Hmm, must also finally post here, I guess.
True name: Alice
I like to write Tolkien fanfiction and listen to music all day and night...I'm 18 and also homeschooled (woohoo!) but I'm late to graduate 'cuz I spend too much time on LotR.
My favorite musical artist is Rich Mullins, the only two bands I like are PFR and the Beatles.
I hate slash fanfiction, boy bands, movie Legolas and I'm sure there's more...
I currently work at Burger King but I am going to quit as soon as my brother gets settled (and hired smilies/rolleyes.gif ) and start my own business making jewelry.

Oooh, I see three more dancers! *cheers* I'm happy to say that I made my high school dance team (one of my short term goals). :D The auditions were one of the reasons why I haven't been online for sometime, as I have been dancing everyday for the past ten days and am rather exhausted.
Indiana Jones sparked my intrest in archeology and anthropology, which is my current career path.
Really? Archeology was my career path last year. I even researched the career for a school paper. I've always been curious on archeology findings in Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, etc. But this year I decided that writing and film making was the direction I wanted to go.

Scott
06-02-2003, 10:56 PM
Name (that you go by): Well, Scott is the preferred one (although Scooter pops up occasionally along w/ Nathaniel, but I don’t get the meaning behind Nathaniel). And if I may dare to reuse a quote, “There are some that call me ... Tim.” Timothy is my real name (with the obvious variant of Timmy, but only the people who like to irritate me especially use it.
Age: 18… going on who cares about age. It’s all about the mind.
Occupation: Student, part-time pizza chef, and pool maintenance assistant (pool boy).
Future Aspirations: Stop making pizza and fixing pool pumps… Oh yeah, find some way to make a difference in the world too, I guess.
Goal in life: To never be able to call myself an adult… explained later
Short-term goals: Make it to college in one piece.
Passion: Seeking out the girls I can never get (or so it seems the passion that fate has betrothed me to)
Hobbies: Chess, reading, writing, art, languages, cooking, talking, analyzing every little quirk about life, hiking, swimming
Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): I don’t like bragging, but on the inside who can honestly say they hate it? So, I’ve received numerous Academic Decathlon medals at state competitions and have the largest collection of useless awards and certificates on this planet.
Fave book: The Lord of the Rings, The Giver, The Prince, Dracula, Hamlet, The Divine Comedy, plus more I can’t think of presently
Fave movie: Definitely Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Fave sport: Swimming… (Teams would be Denison U. and the US Olympic team all the way (sorry Thorpe lovers)
Fave store: Border’s Books, Newman’s Outfitters, Toys R’ Us, A&A Comics
Fave music: Weezer, The Juliana Theory, Green Day, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thellonius Monk, John Coltrane, The Ramones, X-Ray Sex… again ore that I can’t presently think of (can we see a trend forming?)
What you can't stand: Racism, Gossipping, uninformed opinions, apathy
What you plain dislike: All of the mentioned above, horrible grammar, people who don’t enjoy others who make up their own words (a bit two-faced maybe, but, eh)
Who you admire: Teachers, My Dad
What you most love to do: Explain, have real conversations with people
Your self-confessed flaws: Non-willingness-to-act syndrome, make up too many words
What intrigues/fascinates you: Everything
What scares you: Really, ignorarnce… but if that doesn’t count, the “Anties” (You know the half ant, half human things from that old B movie, The Anties)
Quotation to live by: A combo of two: “Dare to know” – Immanuel Kant and “Dare to be stupid” – Weird Al Yankovic
Additional comments: On the adult thing… I only use the word “adult” in it’s most pejorative sense. That is, to be one of those people who loses sight of all of their once so radiant dreams to conform and live the rest of their lives in what society has coined the happiness that would be good enough for them.

What scares you: when i know too much and know not what to do
Quotation to live by:
The Beauty of this world and the tragedy of existence is that one needs another to live.
and
Those who say that they believe in God and yet neither love nor fear him,
do not in fact believe in him but in those who have taught them that God
exists. Those who believe that they believe in God, but without any passion
in their heart, any anguish of mind, without uncertainty, without doubt,
without an element of despair even in their consolation, believe only in the
God-idea, not God."
Additional comments: It's important to be constantly aware that you know nothing, and that there is more wisdom in humility.
there.

To be a primary school teacher, or recently I've been having doubts and thinking lawyer...couldn't be much more different!
I used to have the same choice of prfession dancing in head! Only I thought lawyer first, then teacher. As it turns out...I'll be teaching, thought I have the band thing coming.

Short term goals: To get the best O.P i can get so i can do whatever i want at uni.
Passion: Drama.
Hobbies: Horse Riding, surfing, going to concerts, being a band gorupie of "Between theories" and "The Kidneythieves." Magazine reading. And gossip! Acting.
Famous for: Being the nutcase of the school! I also have gotten leads in 3 school musicals, Veronica in "guys and dolls" Maggie in "In the age of elvis" and Betty in "The roaring 20's" which was a great laugh.
Fave book: other than Lotr? Petals on the wind by Virginia Andrews and Gone with the wind.
Fave movie: The Lion King, Moulin Rouge, Interview with the Vampire, Chicago, Lord of the rings. Ronin.
Fave sport: Basketball, Horse Sports, Surfing.
Fave store: Valley Girl, Sass&Bide.
Fave music: The Kidneythieves, Between Theories, Orgy, Hole, Marilyn Manson, Good Charlotte, swing music and anything 20's.
What you can't stand: Really good dreams being interupted by waking up!
What you plain dislike: Girls who are as young as 12 and 13 dressing like 18 year olds, and girls who dont have respect for themselves.

What you most love to do: Go on a world trip with my friends and visit every elevator along the way.. oh yeah and get a phrase book and go to somewhere like china and say "my dog is hungry" in Chinese and see the peoples expressions.

06-18-2003, 12:55 AM
Name (that you go by): Arianrod and Katt
Age: 15
Occupation: Will be a sophmore in High School in August
Future Aspirations: To be a well known author. If I ever do publish and get my name out there, I want to choose a foundation or organization (like support for victims of children's cancer), write a story on it, and give all profits to the organization. That'd be awsome.
Goal in life: To be happy. Publish a book or two, find someone I'm happy with, move to a nice and quite location
Short term goals: Survive high school! get practice in writing and maybe win a contest or two if I can.
Passion: Tolkien, writing, music
Hobbies: writing, reading, going online
Famous for (okay this is where you get to brag about yourself): I don't know if I'm famous for anything really. Well, I'm famous for my clarinet and oboe playing in band.
Fave book: RotK, Terry Pratchett books, and Anne McCaffrey books.
Fave movie: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Matrix, LotR, Chicago, Rat Race
Fave sport: Ice Hockey(to watch; I don't do sports, that's why I'm in band so much)
Fave store: There's this little book shop in a town here that's called "Jus-Be-Koz" and is one of those quaint, old fashioned, old book kind of store. I just love it. You can't find stores like that nowadays...
Fave music: Jazz, Celtic, LotR soundtracks, Linkin Park, oldies... I could basically listen to anything that has a beat (except rap and country)
What you can't stand: People that ask for your email address and only send you idiotic forwards. I hate the forwards themselves, too. I mean, I got this one that basically told me how much whoever sent this to me loves me and how much I mean to them, which is sweet, yet at the end it says that if I don't tell others how much I love them, my life will be cursed forever. Pfft, feel the love.
What you plain dislike: Fangirls. And by that I mean the people that see the LotR movies only to see their hot little actor on the screen and have no respect for the storyline at all. You know who I mean: the girls that sit through 3 viewings of the Fellowship yet stare blankly at you if you refer to "Legolas" instead of "Orli". Oh, and mean preps.
Who you admire: My sister. She's such an amazing person that has made her own life and worked hard for everything she has and yet is so willing to give it all away to someone else in need.
What you most love to do: Nothing! No really, I enjoy not having to do anything. That way I can really decide what I want to do with my time, and take my own time doing it.
Your self-confessed flaws: I have almost no self confidence. I like to pretend like I do, but I really don't. Every time I do something, I tell myself I'll fail at it. And I write too much in my posts. :P
What intrigues/fascinates you: Egyptian mythology. Actually alot of mythology fascinates me, but for some reason I'm very drawn to ancient Egypt. Always have been, always will be.
What scares you: COCKROACHES!!! They're my #1 fear. I'm not kidding at all; they absolutely terrify me. And it's not funny. So stop laughing at me.
Quotation to live by:
Ignorance is bliss.

Well, the driving age isn't that much younger in the US. Most states say you must be 16 to drive, though I think some states also say 17. I just happen to live in a farming state where students can take driver's training at 14 1/2 and get our liscenses by the time we reach 15. I'm getting my permit next week. :p

Pilot's license? How cool! I'd love to be able to fly legally... but driving is scary a lot of the time, trust me. There are a lot of mistakes to make. One thing I've noticed about this thread is that the vast majority of posters are in their teens or early 20's. And congrats, Earwen, on being the youngest at 11! What I want to know is, who is the OLDEST Barrowdowns member? I can tell you I've got the Saucepan Man beat for attained physical age (but not for number of operating brain cells). I am also enjoying this thread for the obscure things that pop up on it: for instance, I thought I was the only person who saw and enjoyed "Puma Man," but apparently it is a Burrahobbit favorite! smilies/wink.gif . I'd do the form, but I'm out of time and I think about these things too long when I try them. I'll leave the rest to your imagination if you wish to go there!
Cheers!

<font color=red>Goal in life: I still don't really get that question. It's the same thing.

<font color=red>Famous for: *Snerk.*
<font color=red>Favorite book: I'd rather just say favorite authors. It's easier. Tolkien, LeGuin, Lewis (though I have a few beefs with Narnia) Dickens, J. Austen, Jan Karon, Frank Peretti and some people I know from FWW (see link). And other ones which I've forgotten.
<font color=red>Favorite movie: Indiana Jones, LotR, O Brother Where Art Thou? among others. I watch a lot of movies, so things change with my mood. I like Spielberg's movies, and Shyamalan's, and sometimes I'll watch stuff 'cause Mel Gibson or Harrison Ford is in it.
<font color=red>Favorite sport: The over-hyped, glitzy American Football. Hey, it's entertaining. Stuff actualy happens on a regular basis. *cough*
<font color=red>Favorite store: I shop very little. And when I do I just go to whatever place has what I want.
<font color=red>Favorite music: matchbox twenty, matchbox twenty, matchbox twenty! smilies/tongue.gif Acutally, I listen to all sorts of music: rock, classical, soundtracks, folk... and a wittle bit of country pop (just Nickel Creek). But I like rock best. Bands like Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Evanesenence, Puddle of Mudd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Everclear, Saliva, Train, Live, U2, etc. Oh, and Santana.
<font color=red>What you can't stand: Writer's block! Argh!
<font color=red>What you plain dislike: Um... the Beasty Boys. And most forms of rap, really. Also, elitist snobs. But I'm in a languid, happy mood right now, so I won't list all my pet peeves. It would overload the server.
<font color=red>Who you admire: Lots of people. My family, some friends and internet acquaintences. Otherwise, I'm becoming apathetic towards most public figures. But I still admire J.R.R. Tolkien. smilies/smile.gif
<font color=red>What you most love to do: Well, it's a toss up between writing, listening to music, chatting or emailing online, and pulling wings off of faeries. But, considering that I can do all those things at once, there you go.
<font color=red>Your self-confessed flaws: A short temper and tendency to become depressed. When I am depressed, I could overload the server with all my real or imagined flaws. But I'm happy right now. Mowing the lawn does that for my moods.
<font color=red>What intrigues/fascinates you: Human relationships. Any sort: strangers, acquantences, co-workers, customers, friends, enemies, siblings, parent/child, extended family, lovers, etc.
<font color=red>What scares you: The future, and driving in heavy traffic.
<font color=red>Quotation to live by: Let it slide. (Hey, I told you what kind of mood I'm in).
<font color=red>Additional comments: I really think we need some new questions for this thread. Maybe someone should post a new questionnaire sometime. This one's nice, but you know. I'd be interested in some new stuff to mull over.

A librarian, eh? My last girlfriend was going through graduate school to get her masters in Library Science.
She was really boring though. She was too timid and quiet, not independent enough, and definitely not weird enough (for me anyway).

Fave movie: HBO's Band of Brothers, Gods and Generals, Les Misarables (the one with Liam Neeson), Dumb and Dumber, A Beautiful Mind, The Count of Monte Cristo, FOTR, TTT, Gettysburg, both Ace Ventura movies, The Lost Battalion, Hamlet with Kenneth Brannagh, Signs, Dances with Wolves...I love movies!

Hmm... I don't know anyone like that at my library. You should come to Wisconsin if you want to meet weird girls—even our librarians are looney.
Good for you! Have you heard their latest cd (the whole thing)? It's real good.
Um, no... See, my library doesn't have it... and I can only afford so many CDs. I'm very cheap, I rely on the radio heavily. smilies/tongue.gif But speaking of Everclear, they're going to be at Summerfest in Milwaukee tomorrow night. Weird girls, Tolkien manuscripts and Everclear in concert, we've got it all here! Evanescence is going be there too, Aman. smilies/biggrin.gif But I'm starting to sound like a member of the tourism department, so I'll shut up now.
Oh, but one more thing. Earendil Halfelven, my brother is a soldier in Iraq right now. He says it's hot, hot, and for a change sometimes, hot. smilies/wink.gif

Fantasy! Of course. smilies/wink.gif You can click on my link, it's to my writer's group's website. Though nothing of mine is up there yet... I've been too much of a perfectionist to try getting it put on the public "magazine" site yet. But eventually.

especially arguing with liberalists
Ha ha! smilies/biggrin.gif In one of the classes I'm taking this summer I've had to do that a lot. Normally I just sit back and let people say their silly ideas, but the kids in this class are really extreme (they want capitalism to die, they want hard working, successful people to give all their money to other people even if they're lazy bums who just sit around having babies and aren't even trying to get a job, they oppose anything having to do with standards or morals, and they preach tolerance all the time yet they are completely intolerant of people who don't share their views).
I can't let behavior like that slide, so I've been making them look really silly in our in class debates. You know you're arguing well when they always respond like this "Well... ummm... I can kind of see... well, I don't know... I think I still disagree because... ummm".
You should come to Wisconsin if you want to meet weird girls—even our librarians are looney.
Do the weird girls in Wisconsin love sports though? Another big reason we broke up was because she couldn't name a baseball team. Well, I'm oversimplifying, but her complete lack of sports knowledge was a major annoyance.
Well Diamond, you should try and come to our little Mid-West meeting in Indianapolis. I'm going to have all of Everclear's music along with me. Then you'll hear what you're missing.

thats horrible! hippie's with communist idea's smilies/eek.gif ...I think I'd get high blood pressure in that kind of class. I bet their parents were "flower children." That would explain their low morals and dislike of capitolism. They should get out of the '60's...

Barnes & Noble is a book store.
Beren87
06-29-2003, 10:57 PM
To elaborate further, it's generally a multi-story store with coffee-shops and such inside. You can generally find nearly any book you want in there, and they have very comfortable chairs to sit and read it after you buy it. It just has a very nice atmosphere.
Gorwingel
06-30-2003, 12:04 AM
Or to read it before you buy it smilies/wink.gif
Or to just sit and take a nap (not that I have ever done that)
It is a very cool store, and to add on to beren's comment, it also has some of the longest hours of any store in my town (the one here is open every day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. at night, which in a place where the average store is open to 6 or 7 that is kind of shocking)
