"The Two Towers"
Missing Story Contest
(6 September 2002 – 31 October 2002)
Write a short story that is missing from "The Two Towers".
Ever really wanted to know what Háma said to Wormtongue when he found Théoden’s sword in his possession? Like to know more about the Dead Marshes? Perhaps another telling of Merry and Pippin in Isengard’s ruins would be nice. Well, here’s your chance to tell the tale!
SUBMISSION RULES
All Stories must … be within the timeframe of TTT.
… fit plausibly into the overall story of the LotR.
… be 500 words or less.
… be submitted by 31 October, 2002.
Stories must not… … contain sexual or drug references
… contain vulgarity.
We’re looking for short stories, so you won’t have to come up with a huge plot line, and your background materiel is already written for you. Just pick a topic you feel would be interesting and start writing. You can send as many as you like. Don't be shy! Anyone can write 500 words or less. Give it a try!!

Awesome, BW. This is the best idea for a contest yet! I can't wait to find out what comes of it. Who knows -- I might even participate. smilies/eek.gif
Regardless, it will be fun to see what the HoME-studying über-posters come up with, as opposed to the people who keep the RPGs going strong, and everyone in between.

Woooooow....
I want the second first prize...
I think I'm going to consider this.... although I have probably little chance of winning, as I'm not a very talented writer being at a young age. Great idea for a contest.
Thank you!!! smilies/smile.gif

I would love to write and send some stories in, but as I don´t have the trilogy in English (and I should have, as otherwise I will probably write in the "wrong style"), and don´t have a chance to get them until maybe a few days before the contest ends, then...oh well. smilies/frown.gif Maybe next time, if there will be one more like this.
It´s still a great idea for a contest though. smilies/smile.gif

I don't think is possible to write a short story in less than 500 words. It could only be an elegy at best.
Maybe I will give it a shot, just maybe.

Cimmerian, it is possible smilies/smile.gif I mean i wrote it and it has about 300 words (i think) smilies/wink.gif

I did. It took ten minutes after reading the announcement. Now I doubt if I was too hasty smilies/rolleyes.gif . Or, to get right on it, can a participant submit more than one story?

"Why?" said Deagol.
"Because it's my birthday, my love, and I wants it" said Smeagol.

Two weeks, three days 'til the contest deadline! Hey, B-W, I know you can't say who's entered, but can you say how many entries you have gotten so far?

Well, there goes my Quentin Tarantino-esque Merry/Pippin slash fiction. You just make this tough, don't you BW? smilies/wink.gif

Maril, Maril, you missed your calling; you should have been the court jester...
Nice contest. I may try but I'm sure it would be of little quality compared to the people joining Down's RPGs. I'm conceding, i'll try to make but i won't pass it anyway, i'll make one lousy tale.

B-W, I find I am incapable of writing a story 500 words or less. (Big surprise there.) Am I disqualified?

No i never finished it! I had ideas but they wouldn't hold up to myself. I like being inside the characters' head and when you ask simple questions like "Why didn't i tell Aragorn that i got attacked?" - Eowyn, the story really isn't worth much! Maybe i like the thing too much, i can write things after the end of LOTRs but in the middle... If its not there it isn't there for a reason! If you ever have a "Write the next chapter" competition than i would happily join in! If I'm being to hard let me know and i'll send it but at the moment it's another LOTRs story under my bed, in my world where no one can laugh at it! Maybe it should stay there!! smilies/frown.gif

Let this be a lesson of the perils of procrastination!
If it got into my e-mail box before I woke up this morning, I'll probably put it in the contest. Otherwise, you're too late.

Well, were you up post-7:11? That's when I sent it.
And I am duly chastened for procrastination. *Elenna cowers meekly before His Wightiness*
