We only just now discovered that our domain (barrowdowns.com) had expired and all of you couldn't reach it because your ISPs didn't know where to find the site anymore. Well, that is taken care of now, so over the next 48 hours computers around the world will start seeing how to find the Downs again.

Welcome back! We have secured 3 more years of Barrow-Downs!

How..strange. I didn't lose access at all, and I was checking back nearly every hour.

I also never lost access, but most people did from what I am hearing. I guess it depends on how often your ISP updates its list of addresses.

I had been wondering why I was the only one on the forum...
Thankfully, I haven't lost access. Also, my grateful congratulations to the admins, mods, and members who have made this place wonderful enough for me to even care whether I had access or not. Thanks in advance for another great three years. Long die the Barrow Downs!
Peace

Voila! Success!

I did lose access all day yesterday and this morning. I have AOL 9.0 and internet explorer as well. Neither of them would permit me on; in fact, I still can't get on that way. I was locked out from the site (not just the forum).

Then I remembered that way back in the bowels of my computer I had an old AOL 7.0 and that immediately put me through this morning when 9.0 was still blocking me. Go figure?!

I do know there are people who are trying to get on and can't. My e-mail box was full of queries yesterday and this morning. Not too many people have my addie but I've gotten a note from virtually everyone who does!

All this will hopefully be ancient history by Monday evening!

I am so glad it was nothing to big. Tolkien Forums from all over were freaking out! But I am glad everything is back to normal! Thank Barrow-wight for making such a great site!

I lost access and I went searching and all I found was a thing for this forum saying it was moving. I guess it didn't.

It's so wonderful to be back!!! I couldn't get on all day yesterday, and it was really bothering me! It would say it couldn't find the site, and sometimes it just wouldn't connect. I'm so glad we can get back on!

Ah, so this is why I was feeling so lonely here at the BD yesterday morning. It is an odd thing to be the only user on this forum for a period of time. I was glad to know what exactly was going on when I later was unable to access this site.

Wow, another three years of BD. How exciting. :D

I was checking the BD for the first time in quite a while and thought the site may have folded or moved when I couldn't access it. Long live the Barrow Downs.

I couldn't come here to downs for two days and I noticed how obsessed I am to this forum. It was kind of scary. What a relief that everything should be fine now!

I was wondering what happened with the Barrowdowns. When I couldn't access the site, I nearly put my fist through the screen. Thank goodness it's back for a few more years!

Instead of adding yet another pointless post 'how I survived the the great BD downtime of '03'', I'll simply say it's nice to see you around again, Inziladûn.

First came a deep and pervasive feeling of loss. Then came a deep and heartfelt longing, coupled with a cold and disquieting feeling in the pit of my stomach. Soon thereafter I experienced soaking sweats and my hands began to shake. When my eye began to twitch, I became concerned and thought, "What if this is it? What if I can never experience the Barrow-Downs again?" At that point, I broke down entirely and ran through the streets wearing only a pair of Speedo swim trunks and a replica of The One Ring on a chain. I howled at the moon and dug a hole in which to bury myself in the dirt. Running quickly into bedrock, I changed my strategy and returned home quickly, where I ate two pints of vanilla fudge ice cream. Then I felt fine.

I WAS OVER IT, I TELL YOU! WHY DID YOU BRING THE SITE BACK?

This satire brought to you by the makers of paths and shrubberies.

Thank you for your time.

Sharku: Thanks much. A lot of 'real world' stuff has happened in the last year or so but I'm going to make an effort to visit more often.

Mith: Oddly enough that's the second Python 'shrubbery' reference I've heard today. Must be some sort of sign....
