Just thinking about posting on other forums. While to the world of Tolkien fans out there I am Iarwain, to the world of Myst fans I am Ri'Neref. I'm wondering what everyone else does with posting on other forum and nicknames.

For anyone who checks out the BD fanfiction page, Bug Ugly Elf is not only my pen name but a name I use as a forum name. I think Bug is the most commonly known of all my names.

So many aliases (somehow that sounds like the wrong plural)! Before Iarwain, I used to use Gorthaur for general usage, and before that it was Olorin. In fact, it's funny because I've had basically the same template for all of my AIM accounts ever since AIM became popular. I like to use backgroundish characters most of the time. Iarwain is really my ideal name from Tolkien, I love it so much...

I've got quite a few names, but most of them have come out of use a while ago (eg *shudder* Modern_Evenstar, Squirrel_The_Great...) but most of the ones I still use are similar to the one I have here. On Tolkien sites I use GaladrieloftheOlden, GaladrielOlden, or Menelien, and on Matrix sites I use Menelien. Also SquirrelGirl pops up occasionally, and The Elvish Bostonian... smilies/rolleyes.gif

Edit: Also, sometimes take up different names n the BDs chat... generally 'm just GaladrelOlden or GOTO, but sometmes 'm Trnty the Second (but n numerals) or MatrxHasYou. Yes fin I can see that. Anyway Mine are simple. BD Annalaliath, another thing is wither Annalaliath or Myrddin. Myrddin is older and I can't remember half the passwords for them any more. Oh yes and elffreak is another one of my favorites; but I can't forget elffreaky! And in real life I am know by a whole bunch of names, Rose, Rosey, Child, hey you!, Morgan, Mary, and so on.

I usually use the Sindarin translation of my real name, Hiriel, on other sites I join (three guesses what my real name is! Old Norse translation of Sindarin Hir- smilies/wink.gif). When I joined BD I used the name generator to create a nickname, as I didn't know any Elvish then. I don't think I know more than two BD'ers from other sites, but then again there's only one forum in my life smilies/wink.gif .

But honestly, I have found that forum rather uninteresting and not as well set up compared to this one and I rarely visit it except to check up on the upcoming books.

The great thing about a nick you make up out of the blue is that you can do a Google search for your nick and not get overwhelmed by false hits. There seems to be only one other reference to the name "Thenamir", and it is in a DungeonMaster's guide to a fantasy world known as Lhomarr. Other than that, I own the name Thenamir(tm) in all realms of the Web, and it is the only name I currently use.

Some years ago, I used to use the name "Razorwire" for online gaming, but have since abandoned it.

Much as I like my name, it isn't all that unusual. There are a lot of other people using the Kalimac handle at various Tolkien boards, not sure how many people it is exactly. It's rather odd to see Kalimac responding on a Tolkien ezboard and think "I didn't write that...", actually smilies/smile.gif.
