A few days ago I got him...Frodo!!! smilies/biggrin.gif Now my Sam and Bill won't be quite as unnerved surrounded by my bear collection...*though I keep telling Sam they're harmless...* I mean gee, Bill's even let one of my tiny ones ride him, as skittish as he is... smilies/rolleyes.gif
So, now my LOTR collection consists of:
Sam and Bill (my prize peice) smilies/wink.gif
The special edition TV Guide with all 4 Hobbits on the cover
A magazine I can't remember the title of with the page open to an article about LOTR---again w/a picture of all 4 Hobbits
"The Arms of the Hobbits"--a plaque with replicas of the 4 Hobbit swords and of course, the weapon of all weapons, Sam's saucepan smilies/wink.gif
Sam's dear companion, Frodo
A stack of newspaper inserts about LOTR/TTT, and one that includes a large article about Li'l Mr. Wood
...and lastly, a Spanish version of the book, "A Bad Case of Stripes". (Yeah, I know it's not LOTR, but there is a site where you can hear this book being read by Sean Astin) smilies/wink.gif

I have six action figures (Sam, Frodo, Pippin, Merry, Legolas, and an orc that came with Merry and Pippin), three One Rings (isn't that wrong?), two bookmarks, the "Return of the Rings" TIME magazine, the USAToday poster and all those puzzles and games and stuff from that one, the review from EW (I was horrified by the "B" rating, but then I saw it...le sigh!), and tomorrow I think our paper will have a review in it, so I'll save that. I also have all the clippings from the last Oscar coverage in our paper, and a picture of Orlando Bloom from USAToday a while back.

Samwise... you can get a lot of FOTR action figured at KBee Toys (and they are on sale now)! They also had some TTT figures, but I think that my mom says she's seen the most at Target. I believed I am receiving a stock pile for Christmas... YAY!
Also, have you seen the wonderful Sam and Frodo figures from Applause??? You can see them at their website... www.applause.com (http://www.applause.com) - they look most like them than any other figures I've seen!!!
I must now go to join pio at our LOTR merchandise anonymous meeting...

OOOoooo! Rae! I was given a collector's card with a piece of Sam's traveling coat in it! I don't know where my friend got it, but it is truly a treasure now.
I got some great giveaways at the midnight showing too: A Fan Club mag, a free long sleeve T-shirt (compliments of a local radio station and New Line Cinema), some Decipher cards, and the same friend that gave me the above gave me a set of those toys that come in the German prize eggs!!!! It was so fun!
Samwise... I found the Frodo and Sam at Suncoast Videos... do they have those by you? They are so cute, and quite sizeable! I also got the Treebeard with Merry and Pippin (the Applause not the Toybiz version).

Added: some interesting little "viewmaster" type thingies that each focus on one character--in this case Gandalf, Frodo, Bilbo, Aragorn, and (((shudder))) the Ringwraiths (hm. That's 9 characters...oh well.) The guy I bought them from said there's another series he'll soon have for sale, which had BETTER include SAM!! smilies/wink.gif

I haven't bought any action figures, plainly just because I've only found one that I think really catches those hobbit faces. I think Sideshow Toy does a fairly good job of capturing the Hobbit faces....I thought, when I first got my Sam and Bill, that they could have sculpted a little more "weight" into his face, but otherwise it's very well done. Of course, Sideshow items would cause a bit more strain on the pocketbook than would something from (ie smilies/smile.gif Kaybee Toys... smilies/frown.gif

~soon to add: Sting replica, various t-shirts I have yet to get made, FotR Extended DVD (my birthday's coming up)
Things that are not mine, but which I've still managed to "collect":
~"The Silmarillion" (black & silver version) belongs to my best friend's little sister

I know what you mean. I'm quite picky too...I keep getting ebay notices about the "Sean Astin Signed Photo" I'm looking for, and when I go to look at the item they're showing it's either of him as Sam, or him as Rudy, and while he still looks like himself as Rudy, I want a pic of him as himself!! smilies/rolleyes.gif smilies/tongue.gif smilies/rolleyes.gif

Oooh....another thing I'd like to get is a cloak. I do have a hand-made Elven Brooch, but It's not big enough to hold a cloak together. I could just do the tie-up style like my Sam. smilies/biggrin.gif
~many, many comic strips (such as the "Heart of the City" or "Get Fuzzy" ones with LotR parodies or references)
"Get Fuzzy?" can't recall any Tolkien references in that one...though really, I don't get a hold of the paper all that often...can you give some examples?
I really enjoy the Fox Trot LOTR parodies...but I've only seen them on line.

There were about three (in a row) in Get Fuzzy, concerning this little black cat called Frodo. Then Bucky started doing weird "my precious" stuff with a teddy bear and so on. It wasn't exactly an epic.

Are you talking about a real sword or the toy ones that you can get that light up and make noise? Because those are a lot cheaper. I saw them in Wal-Mart. And I didn't see them- there were two empty packages. Someone must've wanted to have a duel so badly that they didn't pay...

Okay, let's see....
Sam and Bill (my prize peice)
The special edition TV Guide with all 4 Hobbits on the cover
A magazine I can't remember the title of with the page open to an article about LOTR---again w/a picture of all 4 Hobbits
"The Arms of the Hobbits"--a plaque with replicas of the 4 Hobbit swords and of course, the weapon of all weapons, Sam's saucepan
Sam's dear companion, Frodo
A stack of newspaper inserts about LOTR/TTT, and one that includes a large article about Li'l Mr. Wood
...and lastly, a Spanish version of the book, "A Bad Case of Stripes". (Yeah, I know it's not LOTR, but there is a site where you can hear this book being read by Sean Astin)
Update:
Signed photo of Li'l' Mr. Wood
Two "Hobbit coins"-- one a "Shire Coin" and the other a "Haypenny"
3 cards--*One that came from a game, with the pic of the Fellowship on it at the Council of Elrond when he says, "Nine companions to match the nine Ringwriaths-so be it."
*One with the pic of all four Hobbits with their swords drawn
*...and the third with the pic of Frodo holding Sting in Rivendell
A set of LOTR mini-viewers--each with scenes depicting a certain character---Aragorn, Bilbo, Gandalf, Frodo, and the Ringwraiths

I was referring to the real full-size Sting, Narsil & ranger sword replicas that I own.
"The Arms of the Hobbits"--a plaque with replicas of the 4 Hobbit swords and of course, the weapon of all weapons, Sam's saucepan.
Two "Hobbit coins"-- one a "Shire Coin" and the other a "Haypenny"
Samwise: Where did you find these? I'm still searching for the Sam action figure, but I think my collection needs both of these. The weapons would look great on display with my swords. (we wantss it precious!! we wantss it!) I've never seen any coins...but I would like to add them to my collection. smilies/cool.gif

Success!!! I found the 'Samwise with the skillet' action figure. Or I should say, a friend found Sam for me. One of my very few friends who doesn't think my Tolkien obsession strange found Sam at an outlet mall toy store and brought him back for me. He is so awesome!! smilies/cool.gif In addition, I also acquired the Twilight Nazgśl, the Helm's Deep Aragorn, Merry & Pippin (with swords & elven cloaks), & Frodo with light-up Sting & elven cloak. I will be headed to that outlet mall this weekend in search of some of the other figures.

I decided not to get the Shards of Narsil at this time. I just found out that Legolas' white knives w/sheaths, Aragorn's dagger that he got from Celeborn and the scabbard for his Ranger sword are supposed to be released before the end of this year, so I'm going to save my money for those. The FOTR game is where you're either Gandalf, Frodo, or Aragorn, and you just walk around doing stuff. They're all pretty good. If they have a new one that I don't have, I'll make the drive to get it (I live in Austin & the outlets are in Hillsboro & San Marcos--about a 3-3 1/2 hour round trip in either direction). I can't understand why my friends call me obsessed! smilies/rolleyes.gif

I just got back from Comic-Con down in San Diego. Where I got many things to add to my collection.
I first got a whole bunch of free things like pens, pictures, postcards, glowing rings, lanyards, and pins from the New Line booth. My favorite personally being my FOTR pin (but right now I just found out about a metal keyring that they gave out on the most busiest day, that I kind of wish I would have gotten).
I also got one of those applause glowing rings, it is very cool.
The ROTK teaser poster which was at a discounted price at the New Line booth.
A hardback, illustrated edition of The Hobbit that I got by asking a question at a TheOneRing.net panel.
And my biggest purchase...My very own Sting! which I got for 50% off in the last five minutes of the convention smilies/biggrin.gif
I additionally got a beautiful print of the one ring from a fantasy artist that I heard speak at the convention. It is so beautiful, the original was done in oils so it is very bright and colorful.
I feel so lost right now on the site! So much has gone on since I left.
Oh and just to add... I can't believe I forgot to list these... I also got the signatures of Sean Astin, Richard Taylor, and Andy Serkis. Additionally I was only 10 feet away from getting the signatures of Mr. Wood and Dom, but I never made it smilies/frown.gif

But, hey, I still payed much more than the price that it was going for on ebay. It is the one from the Noble Collection that retails for $295 (and that is not even including shipping and handling smilies/eek.gif way too much), additionally it didn't come with a scabbard. The price on ebay is amazing, and boy I wish it would have cost that much. My mother would have definitely felt better about it.

Suilad, mellons!
Here's my LotR collection. Maybe you all can tell me some things that would complete it?
*FotR book
*TTT book
*FotR movie
*Frodo kite
*Frodo/Gandalf, Sam/Theoden, Aragorn/Arwen, and Eowyn/Eomer double-sided bookmarks
*FotR movie script
*Sindarin & Quenya dictionaries (not very good, mind you, as I got them online somewhere)
*An elvish gown
*Framed Eowyn picture
*Framed Thror's Map (I know it's from The Hobbit, but they show it in FotR the movie)
*Frodo screen saver
*Legolas screen saver
*Probably over 20 LotR desktop backgrounds from lordoftherings.net
*Replica of The One Ring
*Some of the FotR soundtrack (downloaded from kazaa before the music companies went nutso)
I think I have a little more, but I don't remember what it all is right now. I'm working on getting the extended version of FotR & I'm definetly gettin TTT when it comes out in August.

Raefindel: I bought some earrings & a pendant several years ago in Estes Park, CO. (I'm not creative enough to make any) They were actual small aspen leaves dipped in gold. Very beautiful, very Elvish-looking, and a lot less than $100!
Collection Update: Added some more action figures. Got a second TTT Frodo with light-up Sting that I can play with; a second TTT Sam in Morder; some 3-inch figures: Gandalf on Shadowfax, Aragorn on horseback (think it might be Hasufel), Ringwraith on horseback, set of 2 Ringwraiths & 1 Twilight Ringwraith, set of Frodo, Sam & Witchking at Weathertop; 3 jigsaw puzzles in very cool metal containers; LotR/FotR board game; LotR chess set; and RotK 12-inch figures of Gimli and Legolas. My friend found a 6-inch RotK Eomér, with ceremonial cloak and armor (maybe from either his or Aragorn's coronation). Totally cool-looking! I'm still looking.

Gorwingel & Samwise: A new Super Target just opened last week here in Austin, and I found both the 3-inch and the 12-inch figures there. Legolas is in his Helm's Deep armor with sword/scabbard. Gimli was in his regular armor with helmet and axe, but no cloak. They had Aragorn also, but I didn't buy him. When I saw the box, I was hoping for Aragorn in his Gondorian armor (you know, with the White Tree on the chest). He was actually dressed as pre-Lothlórien Strider rather than Aragorn. smilies/frown.gif My friend also found the 6-inch figure of Éomer in ceremonial garb at that same Super Target. I haven't been able to find any RotK action figures (except for those 12-inch), and Éomer was the only one my friend has seen. I haven't seen any of the 3-inch or any RotK at any of the local KB's or ElfMart. I have seen the 3-inch figures online at eToys. I definitely need that second job! smilies/tongue.gif

My sister's friends just gave her the Legolas standee. I just have to say that it will take some time getting used to it. It is kind of freaky, and so darn tall. When I walked down the stairs and saw it for the first time I jumped. My sister (who is a huge Orlando fan) is even kind of freaked out about it. Right now we really don't know where to put it, but last night she had to put it in the closet so it didn't scare her when she got up in the morning.

I may have to do some rearranging to spread them out a bit. After all, they've gotta have room for all that "sword slashing/arrow shooting" action.

My goodness, your collection is getting to be something! The other night (actually, early this morning) like a dummy I went on ebay and bid on a slew of things (sadly, I lost the Sting) smilies/frown.gif--so far, however, I'm winning most of what I bid on. We'll see what comes of it.
OH!! How could I forget! Today I recieved my "authentic" hand made Hobbit-style dress!!! Sadly, the vest turned out to be too small for me, but hey, who says Hobbit gals wore vests all the time--if at all! smilies/wink.gif Now all I need is a travelling cloak. smilies/biggrin.gif Oh, the young lady who made me the dress also sent along and official-type LOTR TTT Sam pin... smilies/biggrin.gif I intend to wear both of these to the ROTK! smilies/wink.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Ran into a little delimma about the Sting. When I went on my "bidding Spree" the other night, one of the sales thingys said something about being sure about laws concerning owning a sword. I have no CLUE what laws like that are around here (though I intend to try to find out)! Glad that was brought to my attention before I actually GOT one.
Anywhoo, I've lost a few of those auctions, but most of them are still going. Today I won one of them, for a bookmark (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2187116622&category=29799&rd=1). Interesting combination given the two characters represented, but I'm sure once you see it you'll figure out which one I got it for. smilies/wink.gif

A few additions on the day of my b-day party:
A screen-printed t-shirt with a picture of Frodo on it. I think it's a picture from ROTK, (cause of the spider webs on poor Frodo)
And a LOTR bust figurine, copper Gimli. (it was from one of those new 1$ stuff machines they have a gocery stores.)Though I was kinda shooting for a full color version of Frodo. (It had a striking resemblence to Lij.) Ah well, maybe sometime I'll try again

Oi...okay, here is the list of damages (so far) from what Alatįriėl accurately reffered to as going "hog wild" on ebay recently...(a couple of these have already been mentioned):

My Final FOTR poster (which was the first one I got) is in my room framed. I only got one framed because custom framing a picture that is 27x40 inches is really expensive. I Originally I was going to get a plain black metal frame, but when we went down to the framing shop (because I have yet to find a ready made frame that is the size of any of my posters) the owners (who are friends of my dad, who is a major art collector) ended up being LOTR fans, and persuaded us to choose instead a beautiful wood frame with leaves on it (to the displeasement of my father, but they did sell it to us for a major discount). It came out wonderfully though, it looks like a fine piece of art.
All of 3 of my TTT posters are mounted (which is when they are flattened and then glued on board. It is cheaper than framing, and I additionally can still look at them, but they won't get damaged). And they lean against the wall on a built in shelf in the room right next to mine (they make for a rather impressive display of LOTRness)
And then my ROTK poster is in a tube in my closet.
I refuse to put staples in any of my posters. I am planning to just save the ones that are not framed for when I get my own place. They are going to go in the game room smilies/wink.gif
This post makes me sound so spoiled, but really am not. Most of the posters (and the framing) were gifts for birthdays or holidays.
Samwise
08-21-2003, 07:44 PM
Nah, I didn't think you sounded spoiled. I haven't got any posters in my collection. The little magnet I got on my "spree" at ebay (none of which has come yet) I believe is based on a poster. I wouldn't mind having certain posters--there was one I really liked on Ebay that I got outbid on. smilies/frown.gif
You're right--staples and tacks not only mess up posters, but also the wall, and framing is expensive. smilies/eek.gif What do you do...

Hey, you can never have too many Sams (or Frodos or Legolas or..)! When I read your post, I had to go over and count mine. (That entertainment center is gettin' kinda crowded! smilies/tongue.gif )
I made the mistake of going to eBay this afternoon. I haven't bid on anything yet, but I'm watching quite a few. They had some great action figures (both 6 & 3 inch) that I don't have. The ones I want most are Twilight Frodo with ringwraiths (3 inch) and the Helms Deep Legolas with the surf-shield (6 inch). There were several of each, so hopefully I can win one. **crossing all fingers and toes**

I have something a bit similar that I bought in 1978. It's "A Hobbit's Travels, being the hitherto unpublished travel sketches of Sam Gamgee..with space for notes". It's about 7"x10" and has water-color-type landscape and plant drawings around the edges of the pages. The center part of the page is open for notes and stuff. I used to copy some of my favorite poems and songs in it. It's pretty neat.
I went back to eBay..and bid..and won. smilies/eek.gif That hog-wild disease must be catching!! I bid on a Sam's jacket card, but lost. I don't have the journal yet, but there were examples of the pictures inside on ebay. I didn't care for the pic of "elder Sam", but there's a picture (http://home.earthlink.net/~alan53/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/bk-journalhobbits6.JPG) of what I assume to be a hobbit (hey, he's barefoot) hiding behind a tree with what appears to be a "shapless felt bag which he called a hat" on his head, plus the little guy has an awful lot of stuff on his back. Oh, that TTT book is a really good one. Each section of the book is basically dedicated to a charater, or a group of charaters, or a land or place. Since it is the only one of the film books that I own which is hardback, that is the one that I get the actors to sign. I already have the signatures of Andy Serkis and Sean Astin in it (he signed it for me on the first page, and one cute thing he always does when he is signing for a person is that he writes "Sam" below his name. Ugh...well, I recieved a set of cards from my "spree" today, and I just wrote a huge post describing every one individually, then it wouldn't post my post 'cause I had more than 8 smilies, and when I came back to fix it my message was gone. I am NOT doing it over again. ;p The person I bought them from took four sets of cards and separated them into all Sam and/or Frodo (mostly Frodo). Some are Fellowship, a few are TTT. The back describes either the scene on the front (except for the ones from the trading card game), or has a tidbit from the movie; ie: a model of the Cave Troll, a conceptual drawing of Frodo in costume, etc.
My favorite of the whole bunch is from the movie set, a card entitled "My Life as a Hobbit"--on the front is Jackson directing Li'l Mr. Wood and Sean Astin in the "Dead Marshes", and on the back is a pic of Li'l Mr. Wood, in a sweater and blue jeans, yet with his wig on, with that big boyish grin on his face. It's very cute. (Weird--my fave pic of the whole bunch dosen't involve Sam....;p What's wrong with that picture??)

My "RED BOOK OF WESTMARCH!"/There and Back Again S. Gamgee journal! LOL--haven't looked at the art, yet.
(the latter was a really pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting it yet).
OOPS! Upon opening it, I realized it's NOT the book I thought it was (the one with the "interesting" art, but just a lined journal. The man selling it had several books up for auction, and I thought they were all the same thing. I lost the auction on the book with the "Robin Hood gone very wrong" pic of Faramir in it (or was it supposed to be Aragorn?)
However, later today I got a "second chance" email--evidently this guy had more than one copy of the book with the "interesting" art, and offered it to me for my original bidding price. I figured, "I'm getting paid again in a couple of weeks, what the heck?" So I'm getting it too.
As for the "Red Book", I've kept a yearly journal since 1983, so I may use it next year...or, I may just keep it as is, not sure yet. smilies/wink.gif It's just too nice to send back.

I got a cold which gave way to the beginning of my LotR Action Figure Collection!!! Wheeew!! I wouldn't own then before because I thought they were degrading to the actual features of the actors/actresses, but I changed my mind. I got Frodo first, of course. I couldn't believe how much he looks like Elijah!
Together my sister and I have:
~T.T.T. Frodo with light-up Sting
~Helm's Deep Aragorn
~FotR Merry and Pippin 2-pack
~Galadriel
~Eomer
~Witch King (in Ring-bearer perspective)
~Elven prologue warrior
(I was so upset that they didn't have Sam! *Gimli grrr* Next I'll probably get Theoden because he's the only one left that I can get in my area and don't have.)
(I also got "The Two Towers", but I'm hiding it to surprise my sister.)

Yours are the Toy Biz Action Figures, aren't they? They're just great, I think. The detail is just amazing.
I finally have a Frodo, now, to go with my soon to be 3 Sams. I MUST have a Frodo to go with Sam. For me, they are NEVER going to be separated again! smilies/biggrin.gif

Woo! Updates! I love shopping!
-Of course, I now have my shiny new TTT dvd...
-I just bought a Frodo t-shirt from Hot Topic. I loooove it... I think I'll wear it on the first day of school...
-I forgot my lovely animated LotR movies. How could I?! I have both "The Lord of the Rings" and "Return of the King"
Btw, here's the link to Hot Topic for the Frodo t-shirt. (http://www.hottopic.com/store/product.asp?LS=0&ITEM=221110) I haven't seen it anywhere else, and I thought you guys might like it. smilies/wink.gif They have a bunch of Legolas shirts, too, for you Leggy fans.

I wouldn't own them before because I thought they were degrading to the actual features of the actors/actresses, but I changed my mind. I got Frodo first, of course. I couldn't believe how much he looks like Elijah!
Lily: The Toy Biz figures have incredible likenesses to the actors. I have 5 Frodo's, and they all look a lot like Elijah. But the 'Frodo in orc armor' looks exactly like Elijah. Amazing! You won't believe how addictive/obsessive these figures can become. I never collected (or paid any attention to) action figures before, but Samwise talked about her Sam with his skillet, so I started looking at them. Now I can't stop!! smilies/eek.gif
OH! I forgot to mention my Sam and Frodo in the Elven Boat!!!!! Wow, what a lot of detail....
I MUST have a Frodo to go with Sam. For me, they are NEVER going to be separated again.
Samwise: Frodo and Sam in the Elven Boat is one of my favorites. They just look so awesome sitting in the boat with their paddles, leaving for Mordor together. It's impossible to have Frodo without Sam, or Sam without Frodo. They're like two halves of one heart...
A small update: I got my lithograph (like yours Stacey), the 3 sets of cards (Frodo, Boromir & Legolas), the Sean/Elijah photo, and the Twilight Frodo with 2 Ringwraiths from the eBay spree. I still have a large set (72 cards) of cards and my "One Ring" still to come. I also found (at SuperTarget) the 'Aragorn at the Pelennor Fields' (in his Gondorian armor with Andśril). My friend found Éowyn in armor (dressed as Dernhelm). He had the nerve to buy the last one and then bring it to show me..the ratfink!

Oh, I like that. May I put that in my quote file? (I have a collection of quotes, too...) smilies/biggrin.gif
These are a couple more of my fave quotes from Barrowdowners (not 'cause of who they're about...I just like the way they were put.)
Compliments once recieved...
Frodo Baggins -- short, hairy feet, curly brown hair (no kidding, I think of him as a hobbit)
Samwise -- also short and with hairy feet; I'm sure he and Frodo are really hobbits; after all Tolkien says there are a few around.

The cards and Ring have come. Cards are WAAY cool, but ring a disappointment. It's actually the exact same ring that came with my Frodo & Frodo/Sam bookmarks. I was expecting it to be a little different. Oh, well..that's all of my original purchases. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stop. I also 'won' a set of 4 postcards, another large set of cards, a Frodo/Sam fridge magnet (the unconscious Frodo pic), a 5 pound & a 100 pound note (british money) drawn on the 'Bank of Elijah' with his picture instead of Queen E. Oh, and the dvd for 'The Bumblebee'. Plus, I'm bidding on 'Try Seventeen' dvd & 'Paradise'. I gotta stay off eBay...

It came really fast! I only won/paid the auction on the 5th and it was in my mail yesterday. Of course, I had to watch it last night. I really liked it. Amarantha, be sure to let us know if you figure out how to do that or find directions on how to make them. I would have to have a "Frodo" doll and a "Sam" doll, cause you can't have one without the other, you know. The Official Illustrated Movie Companion: The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers Visual Companion (a book with cool pictures and a forward written by Viggo Mortensen)
A 2001 Tolkien calendar with illustrations by John Howe (yeah, too late for use but the pics are really cool.)
and 4 Collector cards (movie cards: not from that game)
One: That pic of the Hobbits with their swords drawn: it looks as if the wind is blowing or something--From FOTR
Two: From FOTR: Pic of lots of nasty-looking Orcs headed for battle
Three:The Elves and Men (I think) either prepared for the same battle or at Helm's deep--hard to tell.
Four: Aragorn on his horse: From the Return of the King smilies/wink.gif

I've added several books, some new, some old, to my collection. I bought The Lord of the Rings and Philosophy, which promises to be a fascinating read, and The Hobbit graphic novel, which has nice drawings and keeps much of the original dialogues. I "inherited" a Tolkien biography, J.R.R.Tolkien, Architect of Middle-Earth from one brother and Bored of the Rings from the other. The latter seems to be a first printing of the paperback, 1969, with some rather strange artwork on the cover.
I also bought a "One Ring" bookmark just because it looks cool...
Oh, and I've finally found some good pictures of the figurines that come with the children's chocolate eggs in Germany - here they are:
FotR (http://www.2ndwind.de/int/001.jpg)

RotK (http://www.eierlei.de/default.php?R=10&content=rundumsei&content=herrderringe/herrderringe) (coming in November)
I have the first two series and am looking forward to collecting the third!
PS - Oh, I almost forgot the biggest purchase - I finally splurged on J.R.R.Tolkien, Artist and Illustrator - lovely pictures by the man himself!

A graphic novel is basically a sophisticated comic book. I really like this one; it has very good drawings and sticks to the original text as much as possible. It's published by Ballantine and probably located with the other graphic novels - it wasn't with the Tolkien books where I bought it. I could well imagine it being enjoyable as an introduction to the book for kids, but it's certainly not done in a Disney style, so adults can enjoy it too!

Estelyn, do you think you could post a picture of the cover of the graphic novel that you bought? Because I have seen the graphic novel that I think you are talking about, and additionally I have also got to meet the artist who did the cover (or at least the cover on the U.S. verson) which if anyone wants to know is amazing, and is completely different than any Tolkien related art I have ever seen. Though after seeing the cover (which I was immediately drawn too when I saw it at Barnes and Noble), I was a tad bit dissapointed when I looked in the book and found that the drawings were very different.
Oh, and additionally the graphic novel that I saw was a paperback, so I don't think it would cost a huge amount of money.

It's called "An illustrated edition of the fantasy classic" and is, as I said, basically a glorified comic book. Yes, the cover is an awesome picture, and though the drawings inside are comic style, I like them and think they're well done. Here's what the cover looks like:

Yup, that is the one I was thinking about. I didn't buy it though, but I do think the cover is extremely cool. The artist that did the cover is by the name of Donato Giancola, and the reason that I got to meet him was because he was at Comic-Con in San Diego. He had a booth where he was selling prints and stuff like that, and he also did a wonderful workshop about his work. The only reason I went to the workshop was because the picture of the cover of that graphic novel was in it.
He does a lot of other Tolkien related work too. I like it because it doesn't seem like fantasy art. I would have bought a lot of the art, but I didn't want to jump right in. So all I got was a lovely print of a painting of the one ring he had done smilies/smile.gif

I've been short of funds lately, so I have been trying to stay away from eBay and Target/Elfmart. However, I finally found a second "Sam in Goblin Armor" figure. Now Sam (in disguise) can go on display with Mr. Frodo (in his Goblin disguise). Frodo was getting lonely without Sam.
