Cuthalion invites you to play his game,
Brotherhood: A Story from the Last Alliance

The time is just before the Last Alliance, the armies of Gil-Galad and Isildur are meeting at Weathertop before going on to Imladris. Two friends,An Elf, Melost a captain in the army of Gil-Galad, and a Man in the service of Isildur are the focus of this RPG. They had become great friends early in the human's life and their friendship had grown through the years. They meet again during this gathering on Weathertop and proceed to Imladris, where the Elf's betrothed is waiting. Even as the leaders of the Last Alliance are making their plans for the assault upon Mordor, Melost and his friend are asked to escort his wife to be to her home in Lothlorien.

The times are dark and the road to Lothlorien is difficult. This RPG will follow the two friends and their charge through this long journey and even through the beginnings of the War itself. The RPG will begin with a
relatively small cast that will be expanded as necessary as the action continues.

This is an invitation only RPG. Those interested in joining may express their interest here and will be contacted by Cuthalion via PM concerning possible open roles.

Initial characters for this RPG

Melost, Elven warrior in the service of Gil-Galad.

Arthain,a human warrior, Melost's close friend, in service to
Isildur.
Tindomerel, Melost's betrothed,(Maikadilwen)

Dorlas,a human boy, squire to Melost's friend.

Thelian, an Elf, Melost's squire.

These are the characters that will start out this RPG, which is based in the time just before the battle of the Last Alliance begins and will continue during the battle itself. I hope to keep the number of players down, as I
am interested in seeing how well an RP based totally on character interaction will work.

First Post

Melost rode at the head of a company of Elves fitted out for war. As he rode, he looked forward into the future for many reasons, not the least of which that his beloved awaited him in Imladris and there he knew they would travelling to soon, there to mingle Lord Elrond's host with that of his own
lord, Gil-Galad.

Afar off he could distinguish Men, standing atop the outpost of Amon Sul, watching for their arrival. The glittering panoply of their armour made a heart-stirring sight as it rode ever closer to the encampment of Isildur. He
began to wonder if he dared hope that the friend he had made years ago would
be among the warriors on the hill-top.

Memories brought a smile to his lips. Memories of a young boy, of noble Numenorian blood, who had sat at his feet, desperate for stories of the Undying Lands. He especially liked those that contained Dragons and valiant
deeds. His father was a warrior and it was plain that the boy already showed great promise in that area as well. His father had been a great ally of Gil-Galad and when he was slain in battle, the boy and his mother had
sought refuge among the Elves then dwelling in the south of Middle Earth. Melost found himself the object of the boy's fascination.

He shook his head, clearing it. Many years of Men that had been and many battles fought. The two had lost touch and Melost wondered why the boy should so suddenly appear this clearly in his mind's eye...this would be the
last place he would ever choose for them to meet...

NB. This game was accepted just before the new RPG format was put into place, and so, while it incorporates all the necessary information for a proposed game, it does not follow the formal proposal format now in place. Bethberry

Cuthalion will inform me when all the gamers are ready to begin and I will then reopen the RPG thread.

As I have stated in the PM I will play Dorlas. Do you need a character dec. or do you already have one?

Hello!

I was interesting in putting my name forward for this RPG because I really would like to participate in a story which is around the time of The Last Alliance. If possible I would greatly like to play as Thelian, Melost's squire. Could you please PM me or reply here to tell me if I have any chance of acceptance or if I have been rejected. Here is a small past post of mine from The Blue Mountains RPG-

The sun was beginning to sink behind the trees of the un-named forest as Mattius rubbed his chin in thought and worry. The tracks had all but disappeared in the dense woodland and darkness was approaching, fast. Mattius didn’t like tracking the Beast in the darkness, not at all. He loosely felt the hilt of his sword, Angmarth, and took security in it. He noticed something on the floor, something small but helpful to him, a small piece of broken flint. He crouched down and took a closer look at it. It seemed Dwarvish in fashion. ‘Strange…’ he thought to himself but his thoughts were cut off when he heard screams coming from the thicket some five hundred yards away. He sprinted forward, not heeding the cuts he was receiving from the branches either side of him and as he got closer to the sounds he realised that the screams were that of a child and probably a small girl at that. At last he burst out into the opening unsheathing Angmarth and caught the glimpse of the Black Beast sprinting back into the forest away from him. Quick as a flash he began to run after the shadow but he was stopped in his tracks by the whining of someone on the ground. He turned around to see the small figure hunched up against a tree. Caught in two minds he quickly sheathed his sword and bent down to the tree. Now he could see that the little girl that he thought had been attacked was in fact a young female Hobbit!

“Are you okay?” Mattius asked sternly. The young hobbit moaned and mumbled ‘yes’ to him, eventually. “Stay here, I will be back soon. Don’t move.” With that Mattius leapt into the woods the way the Beast had taken.

After around thirty minutes Mattius returned to the opening to find the hobbit still sat up against the tree. She looked up and her blonde hair trailed down her face. Mattius helped lift her to her feet.
“You’re a tough little hobbit and no doubt. Perchance you would tell me why you are out here in the un-named woods and how it came about that you were attacked by that Thing that I hunt.”

Thank you- Matt

Our initial cast is now set.

Melost: Cuthalion

Arthain: Amanaduial the Archer

Thelian: Mattias

Dorlas: Helkahothion

Anwanelme: Maikadilwen

Additional casting for a band of outlaws will occur later.
As this is a relation-ship based RPG, it is my hope that we pay close attention to each other's posts. When in doubt, PM each other!
I will PM each of you with certain details aout your character, but I want the two pairs to work with each other closely, Elves and Men. PM me with any and all questions.
As each character's opening post, I'd like a sort of short retrospective bio, about yourself and how you got there. Above all, enjoy!

Hi all,

Thanks Cuthalion, for inviting me. Heres my character...

Name: Arthain (not sure if Im allowed a surname, so Ill leave it there.)
Race: Man
Age: 35
Descrtiption: Arthain is in the service of Isildur. He is a hardened warrior, but that does not mean he acts like a soldier all the time. He sometimes seems quite sharp, but its just his way, and he is good company, easy going and ready to smile. He is more loyal than most men, if that is truly any judge...a good friend. But he is mannish...
Slightly curly, chestnut brown hair, just past his the bottoms of his ears, very unruly. That and his wide grin give him an almost boyish look. This boyish countenance is somewhat altered by the deep scar running down just above his cheekbone, just below his eye. Said eye is very dark blue, almost navy. Strong bone structure. Tanned skin from being outside often. Not burly or huge, but not weak looking; he has what you might call an athletes build, maybe a little thicker.

EDIT: Ok, something went very wrong when I posted there. About half the post was missing and I have no idea why....
I will repost on the game thread.

Name: Melost
Race: Sindarin Elf

Description: Not overly tall, Black hair, grey eyes, agile

Weaponry: Bow and Long sword

History: Parents were slain in Doriath, was rescued and brought into the service of Gil-galad at Balar.
Currently serves as part of Gil-galad's personal guard and sometime messenger. Is counted among the greatest in skill with the bow.

He is quiet and contemplative, given to self-deprecating humour and on occasion sings. Is fiercely loyal to Gil-galad and his friend Arthain.

Name: Dorlas
Race: Man
Age: 23
Descrtiption: Dorlas is kind of a newbie to combat, but he is well trained. He is eager to defend his master and will not give in easely. A real hardhead you might say. He carries a bow, a sword and a small shield. He is dressed in brown and green and wears a helmet. The only armor is a chainmale covering his torso. He left home to serve in the army, because he always wanted to fight. His father was a lumberjack and he did not feel like following in his footsteps. Not much is known of his past, since he only talks to people when asks.

K here it is. Sorry to stay out so long. I hope you don't hate me for it. I was in my coffin, resting.

Greetings,

Anuion

Hey, sorry for the delay, had to iron out a few odd details! Okay, here is the short bio. for Thelian, squire of Melost.

NAME: Thelian
RACE: Sindarin Elf

DESCRIPTION: Just below average height but agile as a cat, great speed and balance due to height. Black hair, blue eyes.

WEAPONRY: Bow and long sword

HISTORY: Born east of the Blue Mountains came into service of Melost after becomming a travelling ranger. Now fiercly loyal to his master and midly suspicious of races other than elven. Never hides his true feelings about a situation and is willing to tell people how he feels about them- good or bad.

Ok, I finally got it all straight, so here goes.

Name: Anwanelme

Description: Noldorin Elf, born in Nargothrond. She's of average height with dark hair and grey eyes. Rather cold and doesn't care much about others.
Betrothed to Melost, whom she hasn't seen for a long time because of the war.
Her father was in the service of king Finrod Felagund, to whom he was fiercely loyal and he was lost with him during Beren's search for the Silmaril.

After the sack of Nargothrond, Anwanelme fled with her mother to Gondolin and remained there until its fall, where they followed Gil-Galad to Lindon and finally settled in Rivendell.

Merry Meeting to you all!

Now that we are all assembled, I can lay out some further plot and expectations for everyone's delectation.

This is a tale of high tragedy that the two leads will not survive and possibly neither will the two squires. As such, light moments will not be the norm, but only as might occur in usual conversation. Do your best to get to know your character, his/her background, skills, old stories....anything that will lend a "reality" to that character.

This is a good chance to learn more on the Last Alliance, Elvish, whatever. If there are issues you want explored, PM me and where valid, I'll try to include them. Above all, get to know each other and try to stay true to the "feel" of Tolkien.

From where the RPG starts to where it ends on the plain of Dagorlad, nearly anything imginable can happen around the basic guts of the plot, so don't be afraid to suggest things....which brings me the basic plot.

Melost,Arthain and squires will be journeying to Imladris where they will meet up with Melost's betrothed in order to escort she and other women of Imladris to Lorien. From there things go down-hill rapidly. The friends break from in each other in anger, Melost nearly dies and is found by a band of outlaws, Arthain and squires return the their respective armies and proceed with them to the battle Plain, Melost adventures with the outlaws, re-joins the armies and basically after a grand death-scene, that's the deal. Go forth and kick some literary butt!

Hola, Everyone!

Okay...I'm playing Dorlas now! I made lots of changes to Dorlas, and if any are unacceptable, just say so!

Name: Dorlas
Age: 16
Race: Human

Appearance: Having more or less reached his full height, Dorlas stands at about 5’10, with a lanky, muscular build. Depending on the amount of time he’s spent in the sun recently, his skin ranges from a slight tan color to swarthy-brown, and his eyes are stormy grey. His hair is jet black and cut short.

Weaponry: Though partial to the long knives often used by the Elves, Dorlas is quite skilled with a sword. He is also good at running, considering that Arthain always seems to need an errand-runner every now and then. He has great skill with his two Elvish knives, and what’s worse, he knows it and isn’t afraid to show it.

Personality: The best thing that can be said for Dorlas is that he usually means well. He’s typically fairly cheerful, and assumes that almost anyone he meets will want to be his friend. Dorlas also has a hard time concentrating on anything that doesn’t interest him. Dorlas is careful though, in a sense that he tries his hardest not to show his weaknesses so that others can manipulate. Dorlas is quick to be a romantic and/or philosophical should the occasion arise, and often lightens the mood with a simple joke.

History: Dorlas’ father set him in the care of Arthain, to be his squire. Since Dorlas already had two brothers studying with some highly learned professors in Rivendell, his father of modest background found it easiest to send Dorlas as Arthain’s quire.

Heh. There ya go! I'll post tonight if the character changes are all right and such.

Hey! Maika and Cuthalion may remember me. Is it to late to join, or what?

VanimaEdhel
03-23-2003, 05:21 PM
Everyone: I'm just writing to let you know that Cuthalion has told me I could play a spot. I was on vacation, so I was too late to respond and accept the character he offered, so he is thinking up a character for me. Just letting you know that I'll be joining you on the road to the Last Alliance (you know I had to join this one, as I had once suggested a Last Alliance RPG in one of the Brainstorm Threads when they were constructing these new Forums)!

VanimaEdhel
03-24-2003, 05:10 PM
Here is my character. I'll give some of the information Cuthalion gave me, while putting my own unique little additions onto the brief synopsis...

Name: Menelya
Race: Noldorin
Status: Lesser noble blood
Appearance: She is about 5'10". She has very dark hair, nearly black, and bright grey eyes. Although, as an Elf, she does not look genuinely old, she looks fairly wise, as she has seen a lot.
Personality: Although she is a bit power-hungry at times, she means well. She does want what she considers to be best for her daughter, even if it seems that she is doing a lot of it for herself. She is quietly stubborn and rarely gives in during an argument.
History: Menelya was born in Nargothrond very soon after Finrod Felagund founded the city. She was the daughter of Eregir, who served Finrod even before the founding of Nargothrond, and Daeya, the daughter of a lower nobleman of the Elves. Within the city she met and married Falasir, and unto them Anwanelme was born. Most of the rest of the history has been mentioned by Maika, except that the betrothal of Anwanelme was pushed more by Menelya, thus causing a small amount of tension between the two characters.

If there is anything else you need to know about Menelya, just ask. I'll wait for Maika to post first, as she's more of a major character than Melenya...

Cu has found me a role, and I am to play Gil-galad. You hopefully know who he is, so I won't post all this info on him. His charater (way of acting, I mean) will develop, I haven't thought it out yet (just found out I am to play him, but that will come).

Sorry, Cuthalion, but I would have to kill myself to post everyday. Also, since, as of now, Maika and I are basically playing off one another only, we're going to have to do an alternating post schedule-type thing until you get there, probably...

Okay, Okay! I deleted my post.

Next time we'll have a real fun round of shoot-the-arrow-at-the-flying-apple (sarcasm). What do you think even younger people of Middle-Earth than Dorlas would do for fun? Certainly not sword practice. They'd poke each other's eyes out...

Cuthalion, how long did you intend for the game to last? And when will the company be moving? Do we have to wait until you all get back...or later?

Aylwen

Cuthalion
04-04-2003, 10:18 AM
It was never my intention for you to delete your post...only to edit. I'm sorry if I offended you, but the point is not what do I think young men in that age would do, but what you think they would do...and also one of the aims here is to remain true to Tolkien. Young men were trained from early child-hood in several areas of arms, otherwise many times they wouldn't survive.

As to what is to happen next...Thelian and I are off to seek Isildur...I had given Archer several options on what to do...if the two of you were to come with us or you were to get a lesson in arms...I left the choice to her. Either way...we'll go, deliver the message, return and then either be sent on ahead to Imladris or re-join the army and ride into Imladris with Gil-Galad and the rest.

Again...my apologies for bringing out your sarcastic side.

You have to take a picture of Maika's hand and ring and put it on here somewhere!

And they would have used Sindarin, Cuthalion. I asked in the Chat, and Sharkey said:
<Sharkey-away> "At Mereth Aderthad many counsels were taken in good will, and oaths were sworn of league and friendship; and it is told that at this feast the tongue of the Grey-elves was most spoken even by the Noldor, "
<Sharkey-away> "but the Exiles took the Sindarin tongue in all their daily uses, and the High Speech of the West was spoken only by the lords of the Noldor among themselves. Yet that speech lived ever as a language of lore, wherever any of that people dwelt."

I just wanted to make sure it would be Sindarin rather then Quenya for the exclamations. Thankfully it was Sindarin, as I know no Quenya grammar. I was prepared to learn for the sake of the game though!

And congratulations, yet again! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Fellow Rohan gamers,

Our gaming comes with a cost; it is time to reflect on this fact and make some changes to how we run our games.

We RPGers are the most voracious consumers of Barrow Downs resources. We use a game thread, a discussion thread, PMs to plan games, and are constant visitors to the site, often returning more than two or three times a day to keep up with developments in the game in order to prepare our own posts.

Why is this a drain on BD resources? Please take some time to read carefully and reflect seriously upon the Barrow Wight's recent posts in the "Announcements >> The Barrow Downs" forum concerning storage space and bandwidth, chat and discussion, and the costs of running the site, and then change your posting habits.

What are the most beneficial changes in our posting habits? For one, we need to stop using the discussion threads for idle banter, for personal comment. We must restrict our posts to discussion of the games only, that is, to issues of plotting, character interaction, clarification, and notification of absences. For most occasions, we don't need to make multiple posts about why we are absent or how we are doing and we don't need to make a string of 'see ya' posts in reply. For personal comments, we can use the chat room or PMs. A discussion thread that is far longer than a game thread is often a signal of a misuse of the discussion thread.

Please take the time to do several things: Delete posts or run of the mill comments in the discussion thread that have no bearing on the game. Refrain from such posts and comments in future discussions of the games. Limit your daily visits to the thread.

If we all help out, we can ensure that our games remain treasures in the Barrow Downs.

Thanks for being responsible gamers and credible members of the Downs!

You can choose what you are worried about, Aman. I figured probably some bad news from fighting some where or something, but whatever you want. And now you can play with Menelya, if you want, as she is pestering you. I have always found it is easier if there is another character so that you can use dialogues if you need to do so. Dorlas and Thelian are still meandering about. They can maybe check out the young Elf maidens if it tickles their fancy. Just an idea on my part.

Thanks again for inviting me, Cuthalion! I am to be an outlaw, correct? What do you need for my bio?

I'll be reading the RPG thread...

EDIT: Here's an incredibly short bio, since his character will be developed throughout the game...yeah...

Name: Snyder (Snyd)
Age: 23
Race: Man of a small village in the Westfold

Appearance: Snyd is fairly short, standing at only 5'4" and is very skinny, mostly because of his usually small meals. He is actually fairly handsome, in an almost feminine way, looking close to pretty. He has always hated this fact, but has at times used it to his advantage. He has short reddish-blond hair cropped over his face and grey eyes. He usually wears his green shirt, brown pants, and brown boots, really quite plain, and quite dirty. He rarely carries anything with him besides his knife and bow, and if there is anything else, it is usually food.

Personality/History: Snyder was tried and found guilty of adultery and various thefts in his tiny village. He easily escaped, and the townsfolk let him go, it wasn't worth the trouble. Since his flight from the village, Snyd has grown to be a more active criminal, taking theft on as his way to survive. Still he is a petty-thief, never taking in a large profit. He has killed only a few men, and though he does not like it, he will kill, if necessary to complete his job. Sometimes he will allow himself to be hired to do someone elses dirty work, but he usually works alone. He is a scheming fellow, always trying to find how to get something to his benefit from any and every situation. Snyd remains constantly on the move, so as to not be seen as suspicious. If he keeps his visit short enough, no one will remember him, and he can get away with most anything. He doesn't attempt adultery, or any fun in the hay loft, anymore, though. To risky, and not worth it. He cares most for his own hide, even before his own benefit, but he still has a knack for getting into close calls. Life remains a kind of game for him. He likes to test his luck, take chances, without thinking. When finally back in his right mind, Snyd is on the edge of failure, which means being seen as suspicious or, worse, being caught in the act. At that point, be assured that he will high - tail it out of there!

How is that? I hope it's okay that I put the stuff together, somewhat...

Looks great, Durelin. Welcome! smilies/smile.gif

Ok, I finally got a chance to put this thing together so here's the bio for Vlad.
Everything not included is either not important or may turn up during the game.

Name: Vladamar

Age: 32

Race: Man
No one, except himself, really knows where he's from since he's never told anyone. The closest someone ever got to an answer was "around" whereafter he went on with his business.

Description: Tall and slender, with long, curly dark hair. A handsome face though it reveals a hard life with too many fights.
He lost his right eye in a fight and has a rather large scar running from his brow, over the eyelid and down to the cheekbone marking the wound that cost him his eye. Usually wears a patch.
His clothes are dark and weather-stained and along with his scarred face, bring him a well-deserved respect from others.
Besides his bow, he carries his trusted sword and a knife at his side and an extra knife in his boot, but he's not afraid to pick up a good fist-fight if need be.

Vlad has a charismatic personality and can be a charming and merry man, though at other times just as gloomy. Has a great love for women which, through time, has led him into more trouble than good is and is said to be one of the reasons he is now living the life he does.
He sees the small band of men as his "family" and he mostly lets them go about their own business but, if needed, he'll show who's the boss. And he will kill without blinking, swift and merciless as is his nature.

How's this, Cuth? (Your PM box is full smilies/smile.gif)

Name: Jaheira

Age: Early Twenties

Race: Human, from a town near the East Wall of Rohan

Appearance/Weapons/Gear: Jaheira, though frail looking and moderately short, likes to consider herself stronger than any of the men in the group of outlaws. Her long wavy hair is a wine-red sort of auburn color, and her sharp eyes are smoky brown. Jaheira wears trousers that are a bit too big on her; she stole them from someone when she grew out of her old clothes, and a dirt-stained tunic. Jaheira carries perhaps a few too many sharp objects for her own good, but she claims that one can never have enough weapons and tools.

History: Jaheira was the daughter of a locksmith, and when she was young she was tried and convicted for breaking into several small shops and stealing goods. She had gone on these little raids with her friends, and they always used her to get into the merchant’s booths and the shops. One of her supposed friends got caught on one such raid, and claimed that it was Jaheira who planned everything and made her friends go along. When Jaheira was finally penned up in the town’s makeshift jail, she easily broke out overnight, letting loose several guilty criminals along with her. These people formed the core of the little band of criminals, and the group would often pick up members along the way as they traveled.

Personality: Jaheira likes taking on dares and proving that she can do almost anything without getting caught. She enjoys the rush of avoiding capture, and like many of her fellow outlaws, she likes to push her luck. Jaheira will kill if someone gets in her way, or betrays her in some way, but typically her great collection of blades is only for show, for the only thing she needs is energy to run and tools to break into places. Jaheira is always up for a break-in or two, and likes to boast afterwards about her skill and abilities…not to mention whatever she steals. Jaheira is, all in all, boastful and arrogant.

Okay. Let's give this some serious thought for a change smilies/wink.gif

Name: Fidrohir

Age: 37

Weapons:A two handed axe, short sword ( in his opinion) and a crossbow.

Appearence:
About 2 meters. Large clothes, mostly hanging and even to big for this man's stature. Fidrohir has long blond hair that is hanging loose most of the time. His eyes are green and his body broad. His clothes are mainly brown from dirt, rain and long outside stays. On his stomach is a scar that is a memorial from his near death experience. His height has made him a good lookout and he is always there when things go wrong. His height can impress the ones that are not certain and he always uses this advantage.

History:
Always being very tall, Findrohir stood out at a young age. His parents are poor and a stranger came by. He offered to take Findrohir up as a student and offered them money. His parents agreed. But it soon became clear that the man was not so good as he had pretended to be. He tried to convince Findrohir to steal from people.

He did at first, but as he got bigger, he was noticed many times and the man had no use for him. So he deserted him with a band of angry villagepeople who locked him up. Findrohir felt betrayed by everyone. His parents did not bail him out and the man never returned. Neither did the villagers listen to him.

At the jailbreak, he followed the band of men that escaped. They talked to him and where nice in their own way. Any form of attention was precious to him. When the group has a job or goes stealing, he mostly makes the diversion. Just picking a fight he always wins. He is always there when things go wrong and fights his way back to straighten things.

Vanima, and others who need to take absences,

Just a quick reminder that, if you must be absent, you should not only announce your absence but give the game owner some sense of what to do with your character.

Would it be possible for you to write your posts before you leave and send them to Cuthalion so he can post them for you at the appropriate place in the game?

If you can take a good look at the game plan, perhaps you can plan future moves for your character. This would allow the game to continue without anyone having to carry your character.

Coincidentally, I had just PM'ed Maika about that just before I visited this thread, Bethberry! Anyone else who has any ideas about Menelya is welcome to use her. As she is a very, very minor character that was invented by Cuthalion when I asked if there was anyone that I could play, just mentioning her existence would probably be enough. Just have her poking her nose into other people's business and nagging other people and the like once and a while. smilies/wink.gif

Right, this will be updated but here's a first draft.

--------

Name: Dyrk

Age: 20ish

Race: Human

Hometown: Large settlement in the East Emnet.

Appearance/Weapons/Gear: tall, dark hair and stubble. He seems young and weak from his appearance but this plays to his advantage. He has several small emerald-hilt daggers placed on his body, which he uses to deadly effect. He can wield a sword and shoot with a bow when necessary as well.
He wears dark clothing and when on jobs usually a grey cloak.

History: His father died before he was born and he grew up with his mother and a step-father, who he hatd. Dyrk has always been smart and because of his innocent looks, has found it easy to sweet-talk older people and swindle younger ones. In his hometown he had worked up a sizeable profit before he was found out. He managed to escape the clutches of the law and his angry step-father and made his way around Rohan on the back of his stolen money, topping up in the towns he passed through.

One night he was attacked by ruffians, who he later found out to be working for his step-father, but he wounded several and killed one. He was much more careful from then on and has a grudge against the man who stole his mother from him.

It was in another of these towns that he met Vlad. They were both trying to sweet-talk the same lady and struck up a friendship, the outcome being full pockets for both of them.

Personality: Dyrk is 'handsome' and a natural charmer. He is quick witted and can read situations well. Since his incounter with hias step-father's ruffians he has taken a harder-edge with strangers but loves the outlaws like a family, especially Vlad, who is like an older brother to him.

Hope thats ok for a start.

Hey everybody, I am back and ready to play my part as an outlaw. I have made a bio for him, and if there is any problems, Cu, you just have to PM me and I will correct it.

Name: Khalad, 26 years old.

Hometown: Pelargir.

Appearance: Tall númenorian with dark hair, not ugly nor particular handsome. A bit slim, and capable of handling most weapons. Mostly uses a longsword, though, which is a family heirloom.

Background: Khalad comes from a númenorian family, who for generations have been soldiers or guards. His grandfather settled in Pelargir and thus survived the Downfall, and his father later became captain of the guard, whereas Khalad became a normal member. Then one day, his sister did not come home. They found her body in an alley, and there was little doubt she had been raped. In her hand she had a rag from a shirt, which had the emblem of a merchant-family in the city. Khalad went with some other guards to question the family, and saw the son in the house wearing a torn shirt. After questioning him he did not doubt he was guilty, but he pleaded innocent, and the other guards did not wish to arrest him on such basis, fearing the power his father had. Khalad saw red and killed him on the spot. He then surrended to the other guards, knowing that his penalty would probably be death. But at night, in the prison, his father came and, risking his own life and position, helped him to escape and gave him a horse and the family heirloom, a longsword. Khalad rode north and at one time was in Edoras, when he saw a thief trying to steal a woman's money. He stopped the thief, but instead of revealing him, he helped the thief steal a richman's money. The thief introduced him to the outlaw band, and Khalad, although sometimes feeling strange being with them, joined them and does his best to be loyal towards them.

Personality: Khalad is a confused youngster, who loves the law for creating order, yet he has to break it to survive. On his sword there are the words engraved in Quenya: Protector of Peace and Justice, and it symbolizes his torn soul, that hates what he is doing, yet he loves to rob merchants, hating the one that once made him what he is now. He rarely kills, and tries not to break the law when he can avoid it, except ofcourse the one about stealing.

Cuthalion: I made a post in the RPG thread, as Gil-galad. I hope you don't mind, but if there is any problems, just PM me and explain whatever corrections and/or deletions are necessary.

Archer:"...Her expression had been interested in what he was telling her, and she leant across the table, her hands close to his where they lay clasped in front of him..."

"...Arthain withdrew his hands slightly from where they rested near Anwenelme's, and she did the same, smoothing her dress- or was she wiping them on her dress?..."

Daniel:"Gil-galad guessed that Elendil was deeply concerned for the attack that Gondor was suffering, yet it did not cloud his mind. His advice was spoken in wisdom, and Elrond nodded, approving of what had been said. Isildur did not move, nor speak; but when his and Gil-galad's eyes met, he could read the same desperation in Isildur's eyes. He knew what it was like, to have your home and realm attacked by the armies of Mordor. When it had happened to Gil-galad, the númenorians had aided him, and now it was time to return the favor..."

Firstly: there's nothing Menelya could contribute so she's fast asleep at the moment. Similar deal with Thelian: he would not know how to react except to say "Thelian watched in awe", which would be a fairly useless post, in my eyes.

Secondly: I'm leaving the 23rd or 24th it turns out (a day or two before I thought), so there's an extra day or two that I cannot be here. I return on about the 23rd or 24th of August, so I'll be gone for a whole month.

As some of you might have noticed, I'm back from vacation. I'm playing catch-up with all my RPGs and I just wanted to say that those last five or ten posts from Maika, Cuth, and Aman were excellent. Now, next week I will be alright, as she's at work, and after that I may eb able to come to some sort of albeit rather patchy agreement with my sister whereby she will print off the new replies for me and I might be able to persuade her to type up my replies. Just so you know I may be a wee bit patchy until I can win my mum around.

Archer...sweet *also receives a glare from Maika* You have my sympathies. I appreciate your dedication in going through all that in order to post.

Alrighty then! The role of Thelian is set. Daniel has graciouly accepted the challenge and Vanima...sweet lady...you have been more than kind in filling in while I found someone to play him. Daniel will take over as soon as Maika posts again.

Now...If either Aylwen..or Vanima as Menelya can take us to evening, we're all set.

While you are at it, could you kinda go to that little RPG in the Shire called Gondorian housecall? Just a little suggestion.

Cuthalion, I think it would be a fun idea if Jaheira and Fidrohir get more together. Fidrohir is vulnerable to emotion. Melost get's the first bite of course. When will you think the two of them can meet up? Just post to the situation and find a sobbing Fidrohir.

I'll RP Fidrohir for Helka, as a first or secondary character, or just a carry along. Whatever you think's best, Cuth. And you could get another person to play another character. Or you could have that person play Fidrohir. Or we could just kill 'im.

What're your plans, o mighty gamemaster?

But Cuth (and Maika! Cheer up! smilies/wink.gif), Fidrohir could always be replaced (by good ol' Durelin). And if you want to add more outlaws (since there are what? Greetings Cuthalion, Maika, and all Game Players,

*nudge, nudge*

Hmm. It's been several weeks--really a month-- since anyone has posted here. Are you all swamped by RL, have you run out of steam, is there a sticking point in the plot which you can't figure out how to jump over, or are you waiting for someone else to post?

If I can help, send me a PM with the info.

This game is too good to let go. It isn't dead, merely sleeping. Wake up!

If there is a hell, I'm there right now.

Oh, btw. Saturday I'll be picking up C. at the airport and disappear into a place with absolutely no internet-connection, so... Of course that doesn't mean that you can't make a lot of posts in our absence. smilies/wink.gif

See you guys in a weeks time!

I know he has had a great loss in his life recently, but I worry that he does not seem to be around here. He has not answered my PM, even after the fateful Danish holiday.

Maika, are you managing the game now? Is there a problem in the game which is causing the delays or RL interruptions? Are people not sure when they should be posting?

I would like to help get the game going again. This one is too good to retire to Elvenhome unfinished.

Would one of the game owners please post here or on the game thread within two days to get this game running?

A few suggestions for upcoming posts:

Aylwen: Need something from Jaheira..possibly explaining her attitude toward the Elf, DEFINITELY something from Dorlas (who will be joining Arthain in Gil-galad's army).

Durelin: Great posts! Go with your gut!

Daniel: Khalad...I like this guy! We really need to know more as he tries to establish a friendship with Melost. And also...Elendil really needs to show the Elven King that all Men aren't untrustworthy.

Archer: Kudos, woman! Maika found me a star when she suggested you. Arthain needs to stay away from Anwen...I've heard rumours she may try something. smilies/wink.gif From this time forward Arthain will be under constant observation until the final battle. Watch your back.

Maika: Anwen is a challenge...but as you know, there is more to come. Vlad...hopefully he will soften around the edges as Melost begins to confide in him and Khalad.

Vanima: As I wrote to you recently, Menelya is about to go through some major changes...I'm looking for a great series of fiery posts between you and Maika!

Thanks guys...you're awesome! smilies/biggrin.gif

As to the future in general, I don't want to reveal too much. You guys have been doing incredible work on the few hints I've been giving you. Suffice it to say, the armies are on the verge of moving out and Arthain will be tracked by his vengeful friend. He will probably manage to have a last tete-a-tete with Anwen.

Thelian will be getting really strange pretty soon as his consciebce gnaws at him furtheu for not following his kinsman. It is now essential that Gil-galad and Elendil cement their alliance before battle.

Hooray! And congratulations on your PT, Cuthalion - well deserved, and lovely indeed. smilies/smile.gif

Onto the game...
- May I ask what Arthain and Dorlas will be doing at the moment? I know it may seem stupid, but we seem to be in suspended animation.
- Would it be alright for me to take on the part of Fidrohir on the side of the bandits?

I have posted, but, forgive me, as I was not exactly sure of the plan of the invasion of the farmhouse, so...I kind of improvised. So, please correct all of my mistakes.

I had Vlad, Khalad, Fid, and I guess Melost go in through the back door (or something like that), and Snyd and Jaheira would hold the front, in case anything went wrong, slipped past them, or just to employ a kind of pincer movement (or something like that, again). Really, my incapabilities are pathetic...

Thank you, and sorry!

-Durelin smilies/biggrin.gif (feeling quite cheery!)

(sorry also for not posting, but I wasn't feeling bold enough to continue the raid or anything, as I did not know where it was going. Of course, I still don't, but that's entirely my fault.)

A small question from me: are Khalad and Melost currently outside the farmhouse now, with the rest of them inside? That seems to be the case, though I am unsure if the outlaws would really leave these two alone outside while doing some plundering inside.
So what are the positions of these two?

Durelin
01-21-2004, 04:51 PM
Woopsies! Cleared.

Hmmmm...I guess Khalad would have stuck with Melost, and, as Cuthalion pointed out to me in a PM, Melost would not have gone along with it...and there really isn't any way the outlaws could force him to. But if someone stays with Khalad and Melost to watch them, that leaves only three to take care of things. I think we might have to trust Khalad and the elf! smilies/wink.gif

Now I'm not so sure my post makes any sense at all...

Aylwen, Durelin, please check your PM's!

OK, people, we have some problems we need to work out. Durelin and I had worked out some changes for her post to fit in with some already planned stuff, but before she could edit, Aylwen posted (Not your fault, Aylwen, you couldn't know).
I know, I know. I could've been here, I could've posted.

Anyway, to avoid further confusion, I call for a halt for outlaw posts until this has been solved. Feel free to post anything not concerning the outlaws (within the game's storyline, of course! smilies/wink.gif ).

...the wonderful wizard of Z's. Well, Spring Break has come upon me, so I am off on vacation tomorrow morning. Perhaps I'll actually sleep for a change.

I apologize for my lack of "being here"-ness recently. I also regret to say that after my vacation, my attendance will not improve. Besides college visits the second week of break, my new play will be moving into full swing. Luckily, at this point Menelya could very well disappear for at least a time, since her role is not the most important thing at this stage of the story. If you want to use her at all, go right ahead. *Quietly exits the room*

Woah...

There goes half the team of bandits!

Jaheira will have something to say to this, and I'll post today sometime.

P.S. Aman, dear, you mistook the outlaw Jaheira for an easterling named Jerika in your posts. :) Jerika is long gone, though I take part of the blame for making so many of my characters have J names!

Durelin
03-13-2004, 09:34 PM
Jerika... Now that brings back memories. :D

This quite a surprising twist. Snyd will not know how to handle this one. I tried to make that very clear in my post, and so...perhaps it was not entirely clear itself...

So how will Vlad, Jaheira, and Snyd now make it to Lorien? Is Vlad going to have a delayed change of heart?

Oh dear...Snyd's going to die of confusion... I might too.

Snyd does not like these plot twists!

So...what does this mean? Are we going to call for a mass editing spree or are we going to try and make it work somehow? Where were the bandits supposed to be in the end anyway, or was it just a "figure-it-out-as-we-go-along" kind of thing? Because I wasn't really sure so I didn't do anything in my post but have Jaheira look confuzzled.

-Aylwen

Amanaduial the archer
03-14-2004, 03:44 PM
And confuzzled is not something that comes easily to Jer- sorry, Jaheira ;) And the references are now edited, Aylwen :)

Although the emphasis is now nicely on the outlaws and this RPG has come back from being dormant (hooray!), can I just ask...what are the soldiers supposed to be doing at this time? I am a little confused as to the status of play with Arthain and Ananwelme, as with Arthain and Gil-galad...

Cuthalion
03-14-2004, 06:45 PM
The armies are nearing atate of readiness...Arthain is now with the Elven army, having been barred from his own. Whatever is going on with Anwen is between the two of you.

The splitting of the outlaws was never my intent...but there it is. Those who are following Melost will be following him to certain death, for he has no intention of surviving. Those who follow Vlad must consult with Maika.

Cuthalion

OK, people...time out!

We all need to get on the same page here. To that end, let's take a step back at look at the situation as it stands...

Discounting the characters with the armies, we are now two parties, one under Vlad, one under Melost. Here's what still needs to happen:

1. Melost is still out to kill Arthain, though he will not succeed. he will come close, then realise that he love he bears for his friend won't allow him to and they reconcile.

2. Vanima...please PM Maika.

3. Both Melost and Arthain will die...Melost first. I had originally intended for Vlad to take the news of their deaths to Anwen...but am not sure if that's still happening now.

I need to hear from ALL of you about how to finish this out. All questions and comments are welcome. My thanks!

Amanaduial the archer
03-20-2004, 12:55 PM
Cuthalion, you said you originally wanted Vlad to carry the news of the deaths to Anwen: wouldn't this still work if Vlad was to change his mind by some 'awakening of his warrior's soul' ;) and follow Melost? This would involve a fairly explosive arguement with Jaheira though...

Cuthalion, Maika, and all the gamers on Brotherhood,

It has been two weeks since the last post on the game and ten days since anyone replied to the Game Manager's suggestions about how to wrap up this game.

It is a good game but it has been running for a year now. Such a slow pace puts great demands on gamers' time committments and also holds back the forum in that it allows little room for new gamers to move into games. This kind of pace does not create a healthy, vibrant forum.

Please respond on the discussion thread as quickly as possible to plan for the game's conclusion. If no one replies within three days, I will lock the game thread and then consider retiring it to Elvenhome, where it can await its fate.

I reply for the sake of continuing this game, although I have already given my initial responce to Cuthalion's question.

The game will still be able to end how it was planned, and it is an ending I like very much - I believe the initial idea was probably for Melost's 'curse' to come true, and for the person Arthain loved most in the world to die in his arms, that person, ironically, being Melost. Vlad and the rest of the outlaws could join the war, to some extent, and it could be Vlad to carry to news of the deaths to Anwanelme, as you wished before: alternatively, the game could maybe end in parallel, with Anwanelme on one side of the story and the battle on the other, ending with the dramatic peak of the two best friends' deaths.

I thought this was the sketchy initial plan - what do you think?

Aylwen Dreamsong
03-31-2004, 06:29 PM
I think Dorlas should die. Die a slow, and painful death, and learn the hard way that war isn't cool. :D

In any case, I like the idea, but I think Jaheira will follow along if only to be with Vlad. I don't think she'd feel special if he went off and she was left alone and deserted by the former guys. Nope, don't think Jaheira would like that...;)

-Aylwen

Durelin

I know that the outlaws were all originally going to end up in Lorien, but...how is that going to happen now? It almost seems that Vlad, Snyd, and Jaheira are out of the story...unless Vlad decides to follow Melost and the 'deserters'. I'd like to see the end of this game with you guys...it's been lots of fun.

In any case, I like the idea, but I think Jaheira will follow along if only to be with Vlad.

And Snyd most certainly won't be left alone. :)

Please forgive the shortness of this post; I will be back to give more input, but I must go to school in a few minutes...

Whew..ok, people...we're in the home stretch. Here goes!

I 've PMd Archer with some very specific stuff to follow as Arthain. so she's good...

All outlaws: Continue tracking...you will be captured by a joint party of Elves and men, then brought to Melost who will by that time have reunited with Arthain. He will then plead for the outlaws to have their freedom to do as they please.

Khalad will follow Melost...Fid will choose for himself.

Thelian and Dorlas will follow Melost and Arthain to their deaths.

Vlad and Anwen are the only ones at the last.

This will all take place in the last day of our heroes lives.

Fine with me.

But I am unsure of what happens now. Do we get them to the battle now and kill 'em off? Is there still some delicate sub-plots that we need to post about?

Cuthalion
04-16-2004, 09:38 AM
Right now I need you to play Thelian as much as possible.

Daniel Telcontar
04-16-2004, 10:14 AM
Alright, I'll let Khalad slide away then, he has nothing to do until the battle anyway, where he can die. :D

But what am I supposed to do with Thelian? sorry for slowing you down, but I'm just unsure about what direction to take him, since I don't know what happens now in the plot, except that in the end they die. And I don't know what the rest of you have planned with especially Melost and Arthain; so I'm afraid of messing up your plans with those guys if I post something with Thelian about them (and there isn't much else for Thelian to do).

Cuthalion

Durelin....you, my dear...are a diamond in the rough. Any game is incredibly blessed to have your talent!

Vanima...thanks for the beautiful translation of the Lay that will now never be seen. My Lady, you shine!

And my beloved Maikadilwen...Melost will carry Anwenelme in his heart even to Mandos' halls.
