Himaran invites you to play:

Title: The Road To Erebor

Owner: Himaran

Basic Storyline:

It was a long time ago that Galdon Finllo was captured by Wood elves and sent to the dwarven dungeons of Erebor. He was a refugee from the Dwarven realm, a criminal for stealing treasure. The elves caught and returned him as a sign of good faith with the dwarves. He was eventually released from the dwarven dungeons, but held onto his hatred for Elves and Dwarves. Now, many years later, he has returned to Erebor with a large army of Uruk Hai, striking from an unknown northern fortress. He has two goals: To take the dwarven treasure for his own, and take revenge out upon his enemies, and the Kingdom of the Dwarves and Elves. Mirkwood is his next target, and the hall of King Thranduil. Bali, Nephew of the Dwarven Lord, is sitting in the Green Dragon Inn when a messenger brings him a letter from his father, asking him to return home and help fight the force that is assaulting them; preferably bringing other warriors with him. The story is about the Journey from the Shire to Erebor, made by Bali, his close friend Eruantalon, and a host of companions, and the battle they fought there....

The purpose of the story is to:

Travel through Eriador, over the Misty Mountains, and through Mirkwood Forest, at last reaching Erebor, in the east of middle earth, as quickly as possible, and save it from an attacking army of Uruk Hai. An army of Gondorians is on the way sent by Burzol‘s (a half-elf friend of Bali‘s) father, but it may not get there in time; and most of the Mirkwood elven force is fighting in a different conflict in the south of the forest. The few elves available are battling valiantly alongside the dwarves, knowing that if Erebor falls, the next area attacked by this new terror. On the way there, we will recruit an army of our own. The members of the army will not be separate characters, but their activities and numbers will be described by members of our company.

The focus of the story will be on the journey itself. We will go through populated towns, visiting inns and generally have fun, but will also travel through unknown portions of land, filled with danger and enemies. The whole time we will be moving steadily eastward. Players will have the chance to put forward their own ideas and subplots on the journey to make it more interesting. But we will find that we must be cautious… a traitor is amidst the company.

Reasons people would want to go on the journey:

In return for their services, Bali has promised each of the warriors accompanying him a piece of treasure from the dwarven stash of gold, jewels, and mithril.

This means we will know the story is over when: The Uruk Hai are defeated and their leader is slain. Erebor is returned to a peaceful state.

Starting Location: Outside the Green Dragon Inn

Likely destination: The Lonely Mountain

Timeframes:

i) This game takes place in Year 2 of the Fourth Age or 1423 by Shire Reckoning.

ii) The story itself or plot covers --- "around 6 months" --- months (or years).

iii) This game requires a time commitment of -- -- - - "about two months," --- --from me, the game owner and from the major players.

Characters:

Main character types: Dwarves, Men, who are friends of the Dwarves.

Dwarves must all be from Erebor.

Himaran's Character Bios:

The game owner will play 2 characters, though one of them for only a short time.

My First Character:

Name: Bali

Race: Dwarf

Age: Middle Aged (55), But appearing young.

Description: About a foot smaller than a grown man. Bali has a long brown beard and a scar over one eye. He wears a light mail coat over a brown tunic and underneath a heavy brown cloak. He has a black strap which goes around his back (in which he keeps his axe). Unless attired for a large battle, Bali wears no helmet.

Weapons: A large, single-edged fighting axe, with a curved blade in the style of the Erebor Dwarves. Also, he carries a number of throwing axes (miniatures of his war axe), and surprisingly owns and uses a long elvish dagger, given to him by a friend

Personality: Extremely friendly for a dwarf, Bali loves company, singing, beer, and even dancing. He is also and excellent story-teller, and a good listener. He is a fierce warrior in combat, fighting with a deadly combination of his various weapons. He is an experienced tracker, hunter, and pathfinder. When angry, Bali is quick to be irrational, and is not easily calmed.

My Second Character

Name: Kaldon Finllo

Race: Man

Age: Young, about 20

Description: Kaldon has short blond hair, tan skin and has been called "attractive" by many. He is taller than a dwarf, but is a little shorter than the average grown man. He dresses in black, from his armor-covered tunic to his long, flowing hooded cape which enfulges his figure. He is known as a ranger, but this assumption may not be the right one...

Weapons: Kaldon carries a long, double-edged broadsword which he can use expertly. But his true power lies in the twin Mattocks (an ancient form of a throwing knife, which has long thin blades but a short handle; and no cross piece). Combined with his clothing, these knives make him a deadly assassin.

Personality: Kaldon is shrouded in darkness and mystery. He is curt and polite, but does not like to talk and has a distaste for populated places. He prefers he quiet smoke at the back table at an inn, or to remain in his own quarters. Few know him, but among those who do it is rumored that his father is a wealthy land-owner from the far east. A born wanderer, he is an excellent hunter, and knows many paths through the wilderlands of the world.

Eruantalon’s character bio:

Name: Eruantalon friends call him Erulon

Age: Born in 2824 From: Gondor

Appearance: He is a man that stands 5" 10' inches with dark hair and eyes. He is a fair skinned man. He weighs about 200 he is very strong and quick. He wears a black cloak. He has gray pants and brown boots. His shirt is a darker gray than his pants. He wears leather boots. He carries a large satchel with many items like books, maps, medication, leather skins for drink, food, weapons, tobacco, extra cloths. Imagine a Boromir type. But more happy and friendly.

Personality: Well he is a kind hearted person who loves nature and middle earth deeply. He is friends with all the peoples of middle earth. He is quick to happiness and slow to anger. But when he does anger he often can't control it. So he does have faults but there because he protects what he loves. Like Erebor a city he has know the people and friendship for a very long time. He is very brave but knows sorrow’s depths. That is what fuels his bravery. He is not afraid to die. But only because he knows he can't. He is clever and a good scholar. But that doesn't mean he doesn’t make mistakes or wrong guesses.

Weapons and items: Well I mentioned many above. But there are still greater items he has. His inner strength is his greatest weapon.

But he also has the aid of a sword given to him by Galadriel. It was forged by the Noldar before they left the Valar. It is amazingly sharp and strong. It glows when evil is near. Not orcs particularly but anything that is an instrument of Morgoth. It is two thirds his own height. Then there is his Bow and arrow. They were made in Gondolin long ago. His bow is believed to have been the bow of a high captain of Gondolin’s bow men. It can pierce Orc armor right through. He has special arrows made for him by the people of Erebor that can pierce solid rock. It is almost as tall as him. Just under a few inches. The Ax he was given not long ago by the current Dwarf lord is an ancient wonder of the dwarfs. It is entirely made of Mithril. It is as light as air. It is a vary broad double headed Ax. It was an heirloom made in the days of Morias great time. It is almost as long as his sword.

Burzdol's character bio

:Name: Belegond

:Race: Man

:Age: 20

: Description: About 5ft 11. His hair is a light blonde, he has light blue piercing eyes, fair skin and is medium built. Dressed in forest green, tough leather boots, dark green trousers. A darker green top and over that a mail shirt, and over that a grey cloak, given to his father by the Lady Galadriel and passed down to him, with a clasp of silver stars on the left. Carries with him his bow and quiver. Also wears a belt, to hold his dagger and carries a backpack full of supplies.

:Personality: A Ranger of the North, but has much of his mothers personality. Very open, confident, not too cocky though. Kind and considerate to other people, a good listener. Likes to socialise, go to Inns, likes big crowds and parties. Enjoys pipe weed and ale.

But he also likes time to himself, he is very protective of his fathers memory (he believes he could have saved him, and that his father died for a needless cause) and really worships him.

Belegond is wise in the ways of many people of Middle- Earth and knows many folk because of his travels throughout many lands. He is most friendly with the elves from Mirkwood and Ithilien and the Dwarves of Erebor, they had given him and his father many gifts throughout the years and sheltered them in times of need.

:Weapons/skill: Most skilled with his bow, it was his fathers past down to him. It is ¾ his size and was made by the elves of Mirkwood. Has a Mithril dagger set with sapphires like his eyes and a set of five Mithril arrows that could pierce the strongest of armour.

A skilled fighter in hand to hand combat, he has learned many style of fighting from his travels. He can move from place to place without being seen, he has a cloak much like the ones given to the fellowship by the Lady Galadriel.

I have a short Bio, I didn't post it but I will if you want me to.

Name: Ani Dao, of the race of Mirkwoodian Elves, female

Age: about 2700

Description (Appearance): She has short, pixie cut style blonde hair and is tall with rough skin from traveling and hunting all over Middle Earth. Ani Dao has a narrow, stern looking face with big deep blue eyes. Is very beautiful.

Personality: She is the daughter of the Head Guard in Mirkwood. Being trained along side famous elves like Legolas, she has a sort of high opinion of herself. After completing the regular training, most of the guards, and warriors of Mirkwood receive, she went on to train privately to become what some might call an assassin used by the king for protection. However, she only possesses the skills of such a warrior, not the angry heart. She was rarely called upon for her services, and therefore began to wander across Middle Earth looking for adventure. She once went on a journey to recover a lost treasure with a band of dwarves, and has spent time in Moria (before it was infiltrated by orcs and the Balrog). Ani Dao is interested in her own benefits and takes jobs according to the size of wealth she is offered. Only once has she been criticized because of her gender, but the criticizer paid the price dearly.

Weapons, skills: Her favorite weapons are her throwing knives. She has deadly aim, and is able to throw extremely far distances. This tough warrior she-elf, has had mandatory training with a sword, but does not like to use it often. She also carries a bow and quiver, but uses them mostly for hunting. When confronted with face-to-face combat, she fights with using quick body movement, and diferent forms of punches and kicks (somewhat like a martial art). She wears little armor, save for the brown leather vest she dons over her dark green tunic. On her feet she wears regular elven boots, but her skill is such that they make no sound when she walks. Ani Dao is very strong, brave, cunning, but not so patient. Although she is an elf, she likes dwarven company the best, for they tell the best stories, and drink the best ale.

I know that you only wanted men and dwarves to go on the journey with you, but Ani Dao is at the Green Dragon right now, and I think would be a perfect companion for this ‘adventure.’ I would also be willing to add characteristics, if you so desire.

I am not doing any RPG s right now either.

astarielle

Here's my character bio for the other elf, of course!

Name: Astarielle, daughter or Asilath and Mirelle of Mirkwood.

Age: Hard to say, about 2000

Appearance: Very war hardened but elegant none the less. She has long golden hair and grey piercing eyes occasionally appearing green in some light. For an elf she is tall and delicately built but has the strength of 3 of her kind. She is very athletic and nimble.

Character: Astarielle has little fear, for she saw both her parents being killed for her life. She does not feel anger but is argumentative. As an elf she is very logical however does like to question other beings and herself but relies on her judgement. She will do anything to protect her homeland no matter the worries and troubles that have affected Astarielle there. She believes that we all have a part to play in shaping the world, and that we need to join together to overcome evil. As a final point she is very strong willed yet will listen to others if it is in order. Astarielle's weakness would be her proundness, for she is very proud of herself and does have a tendancy to look down on others. some times she is argumentative especially to those who believe elven women should not be at war.

Weapons, Skills: As most elves do, Astarielle carrys a bow, wrought by her father, and a dagger. She also carries a long curved sword. She was practically born in the saddle and rides very well.

All those wishing to be Elves please note:

Tolkien based Elves have either black hair or golden hair. Their eyes are usually described as grey or blue would be acceptable.

They do not practice the art of magic.

Please revise your descriptions to reflect this.

Himaran

maikafanawen: Yes, change that thing about red hair. Blond is preferable, and usually the color of the mirkwood elves.

astarielle: As pio mentioned, elves in middle - earth (particularly mirkwood elves) do not practice magic or have magic weapons. Also, does you character exibit any like or dislike for populated places such as inns? Is she the solitary type, or the sociable. Aside from those points, it was a good description.

Great! An rpg with dwarves.

I'd like to post a profile as a dwarf, but I had a question about the story. The thread says ithe story happens in the year 1423 of the 4th age. Did you mean 1423 SR (shire time), since it starts in the Green Dragon Inn?--That would actually be year two of the Fourth Age.

Or did you mean one thousand four hundred twenty three years into the Fourth Agfe? Wouldn't that be really late? Didn't Tolkien say the last we know of dwarves was when Gimli set sail with Legolas? Sorry to be so picky, but I really like dwarves.

I was going to be someone related to one of the dwarves in the Hobbit, but I'll change my character if it needs to be that much later in the Fourth Age.

Dain

Carlas
02-18-2003, 03:10 PM
Name: Dagniriel(maiden/daughter of battle)

Race:Elf from Mirkwood

Age: just under 2000

Description: Has long blonde hair that she usually puts up(not liking to have it all get in her face)and deep grey eyes. She has a strong look to her and is tall, even for an elf.

Personality: Growing up with her brothers(elven warriors) she has become strong and tough, she is quite arragant, and usually thinks people are below her. But, she is very friendly with people she knows and trusts( and it takes awhile to gain her trust). She is cautious, but loves to fight.

Weapons/Skills: Dagniriel has a long bow, but prefers to use her two daggers, given to her by her father before he was killed. She is skilled with both the bow and daggers, but not so much with swords.

You can probably expect some interesting twists with her! smilies/biggrin.gif

Earendil Halfelven
02-18-2003, 04:33 PM
Name: Arlome of the Dunedain

Race: Men

Age: 29

Description: His name means "noble dusk' in elvish. The elves of Rivendell say he resembles the ancient kings of the Numenoreans. He has black hair, gray eyes, and no beard or mustache. He is tall and muscular. While on his travels, he has seen much and experienced much. His raiment resembles that of Aragorn, and they are the color of the forest. He wears a cloak which is of a deep green color.

Personality: He is observant and watchful. As a Ranger, he is always on his guard and he is concerned for the welfare of others. He likes to travel and doesn't like to stay in one place for a long time. He enjoys hearing and telling stories of the ancient days. He is a deep thinker but even though he likes being alone, he values a warm fire and friends. He is the kind of guy who you would want to have by your side when fighting orcs. He would never desert his friends and would fight to the death to save them.

Weapons/skills: His main weapon is his sword, Narril. Narril was given to him by Elrond and its name means "brilliant fire" in elvish. It resembles the sword Narsil. His secondary weapon is his bow which is crafted by the elves of Lorien, and his quiver of arrows from Mirkwood and Lorien. He also has two battle daggers-one which is sheathed on his waistbelt and the other is sheathed around his leg. His skill is mainly in the sword, but he is an excellent marksmen with his bow and arrows.

Mainly, Arlome is a Ranger who you can trust and depend on during travels and also in battle.

Frodess
02-18-2003, 06:55 PM
Name: Yanithë
Race: Man
Sex: Female
Age: late teens

Appearance: Dark hair, green eyes, skin touched by the sun, a little short, of average weight

Attire: dark cloak, male clothes, boots, extra clothes packed for future use (i. e., dresses, etc.), silver locket

Personality: Like most women of Rohan, Yanithë is strong-willed and somewhat of a feminist. She believes that women can do just as well as men. But she is not a male-hater. She has become hardened to journey and adventure, and makes an excellent companion on the road. She has a very caring and motherly side that does not show often.

Weaponry/Abilities: Is a good healer. Has a sword, dagger, b&a, a small axe, and a horse, Alqua (swan). Can adapt to many situations.

Biography: Yanithë was originally of Rohan origin. Born to a middle-class family, she lived a somewhat mundane life. She had two older brothers who were put into the Rohan calvary. Through their connections, she met a certain boy whom she loved. Of course, her parents did not approve of the connection (for he was poor and of unknown origins), and because of this, she took one of her brothers' horses, Alqua, and left her place of birth. She wonders around seaching for something so that she may fulfil that void that was left after her estrangement form her family. ANd thus she comes to Erebor.

Is that good? Will it work? *prays and begs* smilies/smile.gif

You may be on the journey. The elves are on their way to mirkwood, which will be under attack if Erebor falls. Ani Dao sounds like she will get on quite well with Kaldon Finllo, as he is also and "assassin" type.

Carlas:

Sorry, but I already have the two elves I needed. You may play a dwarf, however.

Okay everybody, here is the character status:

Men are being played by: Himaran, Eruantalon, Earendil Halfelven, Frodess, and Arien.

Dwarves are being played by: Himaran, Dain Ironfoot after he posts his description.

Elves are being played by: Burzdol, maikafanawen, astarielle (once post is re-worked).

That leaves room for 2 dwarves to play. Sorry, carlas, but you can play a dwarf if you wish.

Dain Ironfoot

Is this ok?

Name: Dain Hammerhead

Race: Dwarf, of the house of Durin

Age: 101 (Born 2922 of the Third Age, or 1322 S.R.)

Gender: Male

Description: Dain's a typical dwarf: short, stout, and bearded, with long red hair and brown eyes. Out on the road, he wears a hooded cloak of purple. Under that, he has a coarse brown tunic and an ornate silver belt, which has tools (like his hammer) hanging from it. In battle he prefers a leather jerkin under a long mail hauberk, plus a metal helmet.

Personality: Dain is industrious, unflinchingly loyal to his friends and kin, and brave to the point of being foolhardy. He loves ale, ancient stories, and music, and can play upon the pipes (an instrument similar to the Scottish bagpipes that makes a dreadful racket). He is extremely bright, and, when he manages to keep his temper, use his head to get him out of jams as much as his strong right arm.

Dain does have a streak of jealousy, much like his Uncle Thorin Oakenshield had, and can be like a summer's evening that can't quite make up its mind. One minute, he is gentle and laughing, the next roaring like a giant storm and lashing out in anger.

Dain is wonderously skilled as a stonecutter and metalsmith. He loves things of beauty and would rather spend his time as a quiet craftsman. But the hardship of life in Middle-earth has forced him to take a more warlike path.

He is somewhat suspicious of wood elves, especially those from Mirkwood, inheriting his attitudes from his Uncle Thorin and others in his family.

Weapons: Dain carries a large single-bladed axe, a shield, and also a hammer strapped to his side. The latter is a family treasure that has been passed down for generations. It’s intended as a tool for Dain's work as a stone carver. However, he's found that it makes an excellent weapon, both for hand-to-hand combat and throwing from a distance. This is how Dain got his second name "Hammerhead."

Background: Dain is a younger cousin of Thorin Oakenshield. (See The Hobbit on Oakenshield.) He is also an Uncle of Bali.

Dain himself fought in 3019 in the battles of the North against the dark lord Sauron, and is thus an experienced warrior. King Dain (a distant dwarf relation) and King Brand of Dale succeeded in stopping the Orcs, but lost their own lives. The fighting took such a terrible toll on Men and Dwarves that Dain hates Orcs with a passion, especially since he saw his own father perish under an Orc weapon. As a result, he will sometimes act like a berserker when faced with an Orc.

Dain is unusual in that he's married and has a son. He's very proud of him, but can also be very tough. His wife Glis remains in Erebor, and for this reason he is deeply concerned about her and wishes to get back home as quickly as he can.

Great Description! You are accepted. You say that you have a son and wife? Are they at Erebor perhaps, in danger, and that is why you are headed there?... could be interesting to the plot. Your character might be an uncle of Bali, my dwarf, that is the grandson of Balin. That could also be interesting. There are very few dwarves in middle earth now, and most of them are related.

Eruantalon:

You are definantly a co-owner! we will converse over pm about plot ideas and such. As you were not here for a while, I merely dealt with drafting people into the game.

Everyone Else:

There's still one place for someone to play a dwarf!

Good ideas Himaran. My wife will definitely be at Erebor in big trouble, and also I can be Bali's uncle. Have to run to work now, but I'll add that to the profile when I get back.

I was kind of hoping to get somebody interested in playing my son so he also comes along on the trek-- a youngish dwarf of around 25-30. (LOL. For dwarves, that's practically a child!) This would be his first 'serious' military thing and he would be hot to fight and prove himself.

I was working on someone to do a profile like that, but they didn't show, at least yet. I'd love to have someone else do that in their profile--to sign up to be a dwarf and Dain's son. I think we could get some good back and forth going with dad saying one thing and kid sometimes trying to do another.

Any takers out there? Of corse, you don't have to, since I'm no game founder or anything, but I thought it would make some neat interaction.

Hope it's ok to suggest that, Himaran. If it isn't or it doesn't work out, it's no big deal. (I'll gladly take it out.)

Another possibility, if it doesn't work out is this-- are posters allowed to carry a second minor character on their own? I've done that in other games. That way, I could still get the back and forth dialogue with Dain's son.

Himaran, Eruantalon, let me know what's best, and I'll do what you say.

Since all the elves are taken Ill try a Dwarf instead!

Name: Durin (Dains son)

Race: Dwarf

Age:30

Description: Durin is much like his father in appearance and people usually get them mixed up. His is a bit shorter however and prefers not to wear much armor, thinking he does not need it.

Personality: Durin is very energetic and cheerful. He loves to fight but never takes it very seriously, annoying his father quite a bit. He is a wonderful fighter and knows it, and wants everyone else to know too. He only ever seems to be serious when his mother is around(she can be quite strict).

Weapons/Skills: Durin has a large axe given to him by a friend back in Erebor. It is light for its size and Durin would fight with no other. He is a skilled warrior but has never fought in any serious battles but is anxious to try.

Kili

changed my profile.............

Name: Kili II (Called Kili by friends)

Age: 50

Race: Dwarf (decended from Kili, he was his grandfather)

Gender:Male

Personality: Very lively, funny and enjoys himself alot. He knows when it is time to be serious although some times he needs telling by his good friend Belegond who visited him many times through out the years. Enjoys ale and pipeweed and is sometimes tipsy at the inappropriate times. Hates when some one is better than him and is fierce in battle. He has no fear and is very corageous and would sacrifice his life to save any friend in need.

Description: about 5ft tall he has dark brown eyes and scruffy dark blonde hair. He wears tough, thick leather boots, He wears black leather trousers and and bron top over a mithril mail shirt . He carries a large pack and also has a brown cloack. Appears very dirty at times.

Weapons: four small golden throwing axes that can pierce rock (he only will use these in times of great need). Also has many small iron axes to throw. Has a sword much like a samuri sword, is set with rubies and his name at the bottom in dwarvish. It was made by him self with the help of the elves of Mirkwood, as he is very good friends with the few who will tolerate dwarves.

Attention to Gamers.

The game is starting soon. PAy attention to BAli's first post; cause its a question. Be sure to know the difference between the Caradhras and the Gap of Rohan. It is my wish that most people choose the Caradhras, because that would make the story a lot more exciting. Noting really happens around the gap... and it takes longer.

Notice to Gamers:

Burzdol had agreed on playing a minor role of an antagonist as the game was being created.

Here is his character profile, which was not finished due to Burzdol's schedule.

Name: Hogar
Race: Dwarf
Age: 40, fairly young for dwarves.
Looks: Hogar is a fat dwarf, but quite strong. He wears a heavy black cloak and a small black tunic, with a mail coat underneath. His brown beard is rather short, but his hair is long.
Personality. Hogar in unlike most dwarves. He is quiet, and trusts knowone. He dislikes populated places such as busy inns or public gatherings. He also has a bad reputation, but where it comes from is unknown. He is a mercenary for higher, but when he comes along with Bali on his quest, Hogar may have ulterior motives. He is very resourceful, and prefers to use bribes, fires, or other people to carry out many of his schemes. He will not panic under pressure, but is calm; and usually under control of things.
Weapons/Skills: Hogar carries a great double-bladed axe which he can wield exceptionally in battle. He has many small hatchets. He can use almost any weapon that he picks up, however. Unlike most dwarves, he is able to ride, and though he does not really like them he will readily use a horse if the need arose.

He stood up and walked to Belegonds side giving Dain an evil look as he passed.

Please clarify. Is there some bad blood between Kili and Dain in the story? I was puzzled by these word, since our characters were in agreement as far as the choice of routes went. I believe we're also related, since I am Bali's uncle. It would be unusual for dwarf kin to wrangle.

Thanks,

Some of you may find that I have edited your posts. I have done this to correct spelling and paragraphing problems.

Please consider writing your posts on 'Word' or whatever program you have, and using 'spell check'. Then you can cut and paste to the 'Post a Reply' box.

Also, please remember to put your posts into paragraphs. On the Barrow Downs, in order for paragraphs to show up correctly, you need to double space between them.

Now for a word of praise: Nice posting everyone - well written, interesting posts . . . am looking forward to reading this adventure.

I was not on at all yesterday, so I hope I didn't miss tooo much. My computer crashed, and I had to bring my lap-top home from school.

Alright, I posted my first post in the RPG. As I was putting it together, though, Burzdol posted one that sort of put more "action" into the scene, that I didn't put in my post and made mine sound like it didn't fit because it should have come before that. Is there anyway to switch the two of our posts around so that mine comes before and therefore goes with the flow of the story? I just don't want to re-write my post. Help...me...

Maikafanawen:

Your post is excellent. I recommend that you take what Burzdol wrote and edit your post, putting Burzdol's post into you post, but leaving yours there. Burzdol, when you post, take Maikafanawen's post and put it in place of your post. Then Maikafanawen can delete her original work from her post. Thus, you would merely "switch your posts."

Hope it helps.

Himaran,

May I make a suggestion? Since everything is being held up here, I could reserve two save spots under my name in the game thread. Then have the two missing persons post their comments on the discussion thread. I would then paste them back into the game thread in the saved spots.

The only reason not to do this is if you feel their posts will be so critical to the action that it would change the direction the game is going, and require immediate responses by other posters.

You could always post a note on the discussion thread suggesting that folks go back and read the earlier posts by these two in the game.

Please advise what you prefer. Perhaps you'd want to post a note on the discussion thread now that if the missing posts aren't up by 5 p.m. today, we'll handle it this way. I'll be glad to do that if you so advise.

Note to gamers:

Check up on whats happening in the game. WE have a wagon now, and everyone except astarielle is outside the inn waiting to leave. I sent astarielle to go get horses, and I pm'd Piosenniel Eruantalon's post. AFter she posts his and Frodesses, and astarielle posts about her getting the horses and coming back, we're on our way.

Nothing in the game really happens until we get to bree. There, the horses will get stolen, and there will be a search for the robber. Bali will get a few more warriors (no one will play them, but they can get 'killed off' so no one will need to sacrifice their's for the good of the story.) Maybe a few other things will happen, too.

On the journey from Bree to Rivendell, where a few elves remain, the cart will break down in harsh weather. Orcs will attack us at Weathertop.

Many things will happen on the Caradhras, such as characters getting lost, burried in snow, falling into holes, and dying (this may happen to the 'extras.')

This should give you a general idea of how the first half of the game will be shaped. However, you are incouraged to suggest subplots and other things which will make the story more interesting.

How long are we going to be in Bree? Do we get the horses back?

Subplot:

One night we stop to camp. We can have litlle morale boosters. Marksmannship contest.[Archery and axe throwing] Small practial prize. [an extra] is a sentry and gets killed by orcs. The orcs upset the camp and all the innhabitants. 2 or 3 more die [extras] until the orc band is killed.

We will be in Bree for a day and night, and thats probably all. We will get the horses back.

Note to gamers: If you have subplots you would like to suggest, do exactly what Burzdol did. post them here, and I will look at them. If they are accepted, then all the gamers can think on the same level, and not have everyone off doing their own thing. Work together!!!

Burzdol's Subplot: Modified and Accepted.

When: Soon, before we get to Bree; at night.
Where: In our camp off the side of the road.
Who: (Men) Bandits!
How many: about 6 or 7
What: One night we stop to camp. We decide to have a little morale booster, a Marksmanship contest.[Archery and axe or knife throwing]. The winner will get a small practical prize. Bandits upset the party, and attempt to steal from us. They attacked the wrong group. We defeat them easily, killing a few and taking the others prisoner. They are forced to walk with us until we get to Bree, tied to the wagon.

Burzdol:

The reasons it was change are:
I doubt if many orcs are in the Shire!
No extras have come along yet.

It would be nice to have some fun now,, and not after we leave Bree. Thus, though it could have been done after Bree (where there are orcs), it would be better to have it before Bree, thus orcs become robbers. Thanks a lot for the great Subplot idea. Other players are encouraged to come up with their own!

In the knife, Bow and Axe compettition:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE --- DON"T EVERYONE HIT THE TARGET DEAD CENTER!!!!!!!

We are good warriors, but not the best. Dwarves can throw hatchets good, but not THAT good (hitting dead center). Only the elves and possibly Kaldon (who is like the best knife thrower) would have any possibility of being that good.

Hey Himaran

I have made my first post. I finaly caught up with everyone. I have also been trying to help the plot along.

Everyone since I didn't get a chance to interacto with your charctors before please do so if you want. I would like to build a friendship that each charctor has. I know Himaran charctor pretty well. Since I am a game owner I have to say it is importent that we all become friends. Our charctors that is. Your charctor doesn't have to be friends with everyone at once. Maybe you start to hate some one respect or trust and friendship is built not given freely.

Well this is like the 5,000 word I have written tonight. I'll take a break. I'll be waiting for any comments or compants tommarow. But over all I think each and everyone of the people playing in this game are quit exceptional writers.

This is a reminder, make sure that you read everything that has allready been posted before you post more of the story yourself. Right now there are a few posts that are out of synchronization with the others. For example, Astarielle, if you had read ahead, Kaldon had gotten our horses back before your post. Also, Astarielle, you didn't give an indication that it was morning and the company was awake. Carlas, your post was about three posts too late. If you want, I can copy your post into mine and put it at the end of my post and title it "Carlas's Post" Like Burzdol and I did in the first page of this RPG. PM me if that's ok. Listen up everyone

To keep people from doing out of order post each day I'll tell you what are the required things to write. I think Himaran will agree. A bit of orginized writing will do everyone good. I am doing this becuse I have already made this mistake.

Current game status

Every one has woken up and is ready or is getting ready to start off for Bree. Every one has eaten and is ready to go. If you want to post anything extra in your post do so without throwing the game time line off. Or maybe your charctor is all ready and you can post what he is doing on his travel. Try to read everyones post and not do anything simlar.

Frodess,

Who are you talking to right now? You didn't give a name? Also you refered to your charctor as she a few times. Isn't your charctor supposed to be male?

One thing I forgot to mentshion in my charctor descriptshion is my charctors Lute. It was made by the Mair of Lorien. Not Lothlorien but Lorien. It is an enchanted instrument. If anyone would like to read the story of my charctor I would be happy to give you the story I have writen. Also if you have your charctors story already writen some where I would love reading it.

I have a question for Arien concerning our characters, Arlómë and Belegond:

Since Arlómë and Belegond are both Rangers, shouldn't we kind of know eachother, since Rangers were particularly few in number, especially after Aragorn became King of Gondor? I was just thinking that we should establish some connection between our two characters because since we are both Rangers, we could possibly be next of kin.

How about we pass through a small village. Police won't let us through. Someone loses temper, kills some of the local police force, is caught and to be hung the next day. We ride in save him/her from the gallows and ride off.

Hey, wait a minute, I thought we were the "good guys" and the Orcs and the traitors were the "bad guys". I like action, but we need something more subtle than that. Plus, if we slay another person for a reason like that, we aren't much better than brigands.

This would be a more interesting twist. One of our traitors would try and engineer a fight between one or more of our company and the local police. That could have led to an all out brawl and maybe somebody getting killed. But, at the last minute, someone would come to his mind and draw back from the confrontation.

Maybe Kaldon spreads a rumor among the companions that the local police are plotting against us, or maybe a lie that he ha overheard a conversation where they threaten to kill us, thinking we are a band of brigands. We come face to face and are squaring off too fight, but at the last minute back off. Then some of us try to figure out how the whole thing got started.

What say you?

I like Dain's idea:

However, it will happen AT Bree, not BEFORE Bree. We need to keep the story moving. I am about to set up a thing at Bree. READ IT CAREFULLY! EVERYONE WILL HAVE AN ASSIGNED JOB TO DO!

Subplot:

Kaldon spreads a rumor among the police force that Bali is a brigand. Then the local police are plot to capture him. Everyone attempts to hide Bali, with Burzdol staying near him. When Kaldon tells the police where he is hiding, and they reach where Bali is, Burzdol steps out and comes face to face with them.

They try to push past him but he trips one. That one falls and hits his head on something hard, dying thereafter. Then Bali and Burzdol are BOTH wanted. Soon it is morning and the company smuggles the "Wanted Pair" out of Bree.

What do you think Eruantalon? Gamers?

Either way, we are getting to Bree after I post.

Gamers:

Kaldon was discovered by Arlómë, and has fled the company. He will return into the story later on. We may catch sight of him and his band on the journey. The new person taking his place is Belfalod. He is a young man, a ranger, with green eyes and short blond hair. He has a bow and twin knives, though he does not throw them. He is the new traitor, but please don't suspect him right off. He is going to be much more comrade-like, friendly, and polite than Kaldon was. Not the type you would expect to be the evildoer.

Also, several men from Gondor are now on the journey. They can be killed during a battle, at the discretion of Gamers.

Burzdol, as you go on your way to tell Bali that Kaldon has deserted, notice the wanted sign for Bali. I will take over from there.

The game is starting to get a lot more interestion.

Yes I agree with the suggestions. I would like all our charctors to interact a little more. There seems to be a lot of. He was stting or standing when posts. Not as much interactshion as there should be. Bree could be a good place for us all to get our charctors more friendly with each orter.

Maika,

Was it your charctor that was singing the night they camped? Erulon is going to approach you and talk to you a little. Maybe you can break into a song.

Himaran

What did you think of the suggestion that Erulon could make a song at the mountains that might make there journy a little easier.

To everyone,

Does anyone have a problem with us all sitting at a table togther and talking. It could be a good way for our charctors to get to know each orther better. At the inn at Bree.

Earendil Halfelven
02-28-2003, 04:07 PM
Thats a good idea about the new guy Belfalod being bad. Nobody would suspect an evil ranger. Since Arlome and Belegond are both rangers, they should be the quickest to befriend Belfalod.

To Kaldon:
I was thinking that Arlome and Kaldon run into eachother while Kaldon is escaping from Bree. Arlome and Kaldon get into a little fight, but since Kaldon is concentrating on getting away, the fight doesn't last that long.

Also while Arlome is out looking to warn others, I can run into Belegond so thats when those two can make a " ranger connection."

By the way, I like that idea about everyone sitting at a table and interacting more.

Earendi:

Its just fine is Kaldon runs into Alome as he is leaving Bree. Perhaps Belfalod can save Arlome, and the two become friends. No one will suspect him.

But remember, Kaldon gets away. He will return at a later time in the story.

Burzdol: I'm from Mirkwood, but I've traveled through both Lothlorien and Rivendell.

My Deal: I'm at the apothecary right now, making amends with an old friend, but I'll be back. I'll arrive around the time when Kaldon rides off in a hurry and Arlome (if they fight) is fighting him. I'll see Kaldon ride away, and Arlome recovering/standing up/ whatever he's doing. I'll run to find out what happened, then go inside the Inn where the police are confronting Bali and Burzdol or whoever. Well, I'll take it from there, but that's my plan. Ok ... ? smilies/biggrin.gif

Eurlon: Yes that was Ani Dao singing. That sounds good. You post first and I'll go from there. Deal?

Here is the situation now:

Arlómë and Kaldon have gotten into a little squabble in front of the apothecary (for the convenience of Ani Dao finding Arlómë out there, so he can fill her in). But Kaldon had to bail because local guards were coming so now he is out of Bree. The scene is ready for Ani Dao to come out and see Arlómë and hear what happened.

This is getting pretty cool. smilies/tongue.gif

Belfalod meets Arlome and Ani Dao outside the apothecary, and he and Arlome become friends.

Arvedui III:

All members are encouraged to come up with there own subplots during "free time" such as this at the inn. It just so happens that Ani Dao and Arlome happened to be outside where Kaldon passed through to escape.

However, once Burzdol finds the wanted notice, everyone will be helping to hide Bali and fend off the police. This will be happening soon.

Everyone is going to gather downstairs now. People are going to be asigned tasks. Here they are: LOOK AT THIS!!!!!!!!!

Burzdol: You are going to guard outside Bali's room. you will have mercenaries and guards attack you, and you must fend them off. Eruantalon (who I will play) is going to be with you.

Ani Dao is going to guard the stairwell leading up to the dorm area. Lots can happen there...

Astarielle will be guarding the other stairwell. A lot can happen there, too.

The dwarves, all of them, will spread throughout the inn. They will be listening for people going after Bali. They will then dispose of them...

The two rangers and Yanithe will leave the inn, and look for a way to get Bali out of Bree. They will be attacked by roughians outside... perhaps they can bribe the gateman to let them sneak Bali out...

The gondorian extras and Belfalod will be out gathering supplies. Who wants to do that anyway?!

This will give EVERYONE a chance to get into the action and coordinate with other people.

All gamers really have to check the discussion thread often. It is where the game is born.

Just to let you guys in on Einen:
Age: 19
race:Man
He is really eager to go on this trip. He never has been out on dangerous journeys before so he is eager to prove himself. He has just a sword and a knife strapped to his belt. He is inexperienced in warfare, but Arlome will look after him.

Would it be ok if Einen was like a mini character? I kind of wanted him to be like Arlome's sidekick, and that he doesn't die as soon as the extras. I want him to be like a secondary character for me, if thats ok with you all.

Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions on an escape plan? We need on quick! smilies/eek.gif
I suggest that first since there are 4 of us that we each check out one of the gates. for example-Arlómë will check the west gate, Yanithe will check the northern gate, Belegond will check the southern gate and Burzdol will check the eastern gate. We would be checking them for guards to see if the guards are checking wagons for Bali. Then we meet up with the results in front of like the Pony or whatever meeting place we think of, and decide on what our plan should be. In the mean time, my dude Arlómë will meet up with Einen.
What do you guys suggest?

Burzdol: Remember, please don't kill the guards if you don't have to. Just the mercenaries, and there are less mercenaries than there are guards. These are not real enemies, they are merely confused pawns instructed to find a murderer.

Here is the plan:

Erulon has transported Bali (in the barrel in the wagon) to the gate where Yanithe is.

Yanithe will sing the guard to sleep, and then Erulon will get Bali out of Bree.

Yanithe will collect the horses, and with the rangers (Belegond, Einin, Belfalod and Arlome) will take the wagon and horses to the east of Bree.

Once they are safely out of Bree, all other members of the company will break off and flee, getting out of Bree in any way they can. It is to the discretion of the member how their character will escape. Jumping out a window, hiding in a hay wagon, climbing the wall, or simply rushing the guards at the gate... whatever you want.

Hello comrades!
To add a little spice to the pot, Arlome and Einen got arrested. But do not fear! smilies/eek.gif
They'll get out.
Ultimately, since the company is going to be scattered we should have some meeting place like weathertop or Rivendell. Since most of the elves have gone to the Greyhavens, Rivendell can be considered since we have dwarves.
Don't worry about Arlome and Einen though. The Dunedain will use his tracking skills. smilies/cool.gif

Weathertop is a common meeting place. The company will be scattered, but some will band together.

Company: Once the signal is given, desert Bree in anyway you can and get to Weathertop, about a week's journey on foot outside of Bree.

You do not have horses! The horses are with Erulon, Yanithe, and Belegond, who are making the journey separately.

I suggest that Burzdol go with Ani Dao, and that Astarielle (reluctantly) lead the dwarves to Weathertop.

The signal is soon in coming!

Okay I've posted. *phew* Still a little guilty about the length but as long as its okay ...

Also, Ani Dao doesn't use her bow that often. She sticks to her knives mostly, or uses her unusual skill in hand to hand combat. I noticed lots of posts mentioned her bow. Ani Dao looooves adventure, and bow usage takes the real excitement out of it for her. 1) Because it's really not that challenging for any elf and 2) There's no subject to fault, and she is put in no real danger. Just thought I'd point that out.

Your group is about a week behind us, so after the ones at Weathertop get back with firewood and provisions I will compress time, and have us "we had waited for you for many days." or something like that. Then you can reenter the group. For the time being, have fun with the police in the woods.

Bali, Eruantalon, Burzdol, Astarielle, Belegond, Belfalod, Kili, Gromfelt, Dain, and Ani Dao.

There is a RPG in Rohan called Swan Wood. In this they are in need of three or four elves. There might be an opening for men, but no dwarves. If you are interested, please go to Rohan, then to Swan Wood Discussion Thread. Thanks.

Note to gamers:

This game needed to be over in 2 months from when it started. We are not yet to the halfway point in that time period, but we are closing in on it. Thus, we must not waste time at Weathertop. We need lots of time for the Caradhras, and of course the last battle, both essential to the story.

Tomorrow, I will compress time so that Arlome and Einin can rejoin the group at Weathertop. Then we will be off for Rivendell, and Hathalas can meet us.

Thus, you have today and part of Tuesday to make a "coming back with supplies and finding injured Burzdol" post, but that is all the time we have for you to do this.

Okay. Here's my idea:

Himaran (Bali) finds me near the wagon. I am unconcious and fading. You rush me to Ani Dao to get medicine. I slowly recover as we go to Rivendell. There I am cured more by the elves. I will be fine, so don't worrying about me falling behind. To me it'll be just like an annoying, but painful, scratch.

Hathalas: Good idea about the bushes, but if you are on a horse (like a true elven scout in that region) it would make more sense for you to meet us on the road.

Everyone else: We have now left Weathertop, bound for Rivendell! So you can once again do some nice pretty posts about the surrounding areas. Remember, we are passing through forest now, or open grassy plains with snow. It is cold and windy.

I have started to think about an idea for an orc attack (by the same group) once we meet Hathalas. If he fights alongside us, it will strengthen his friendship with us.

To all the Rangers:

I guess since we are going to be in Rivendell, which has a big part in the history of the dunedain, that the Rangers discuss their lineage. What I mean, if your confused, is that since there are so few of the dunedain, that they would obviously talk to eachother and establish which lineage they are from. For example, my character arlome is from the northern line of the heirs of Isildur. While creating my character, I wanted him to be a ranger, so I found in appendix A in LOTR all the names and the lineage of Isildur and Anarion. If you look in the northern line of the heirs of Isildur under chieftains, which arlome is a part of, the names all begin with a "ar-" or a "ara-". that means like "noble" (I think) in elvish. that is the similarity that I noticed, so thats what I did with arlome.

Anyways, with the others, like Belegond, (Isn't he a ranger from Rohan?), he could be in the southern line of the heirs of Anarion. Belelgond's name is similar to a lot of the ruling stewards so it could be possible that Belegond comes from that line.
just a suggestion smilies/biggrin.gif

I believe that this would add more depth to the RPG than just "Blah blah blah shot an orc with his arrows, than took out his sword-". do you guys see what I mean? or is this just a dumb suggestion?

Arien
03-14-2003, 01:01 PM
No its a good suggestion, and that is where I derived the name from! Belegond is in the line of Anarion!!! Well that what I wanted. I agree it would add some depth to the story and allow the rangers to make a bond. But all the Rangers have to be a Rivendell so we can do it over 1 night or something. I look forward to doing it.

Himaran
03-14-2003, 01:35 PM
Eruantalon's father is was a ranger, so he has some connection to them. He will probably be someone's cousin. Yes, I think that linage discussions would be a good topic around a warm fire at Rivendell.

The only people left in the group walking are Astarielle, the dwarves, Yanithe, and Eruantalon.

Frodess: you will probably want Yanithe to stay with the dwarves due to your idea for a subplot. Eruantalon is staying also.

Astarielle: You are free to head for Rivendell, but if you want to see a little more action, you can stay with us.

Whoops. I goofed on my post. I thought Burzdol's horse was Duelen ... well whatever his horses' name is then that's who we're riding. I left Uesse behind obviously so ... just make sure she gets to Rivendell or whatever pretty please.

Carlas: I wouldn't mind taking over Carlas/Durin while you are out of town or what not.

Also, in another RPG, I have a character named Annanoldowen, who is a Galadriel/Elrond type person (female) and she will be in Rivendell awaiting us if that's okay. Her bio is in Rohan: Swan Wood Discussion, and if you think it would be a good idea I can play her for the short time we are in Rivendell, since Elrond's gone we're gonna need a sort of Head of Rivendell character. This is the Bio for my intermediate character:

*********************************************
Name: Annanoldowen (which means Gift of Knowledge)

Race: Elf from Rivendell

Age: about 4 and a half thousand years (around the age of Galadriel and Elrond)

Physical description (height, eye colour, hair colour, clothing etc): Stands very tall, about 6 and half feet, and is very slender. She has soft gray eyes, and long blonde hair that falls in ringlets down her back. Annanoldowen is used to wearing the dresses of royalty of Rivendell. For traveling purposes she wears a dark gray riding dress and carries an elvish sword.

Background: Was educated well about the histories of Middle Earth, and is very wise among the elven race. She travels across Middle Earth at the will of Elrond to learn more about its peoples and relations. She has the standard skills of healing and tracking, just enough to survive. She was also taught in hand to hand combat incase she needed to defend herself when there was no access to any weapons. When Elrond left for the undying lands, and Annanoldowen was given the choice, she decided to stay in Middle Earth instead of going with him, because she felt that the people in Middle Earth could benefit from her knowledge. Her family was disappointed, but she was resolved. The elf stayed in Rivendell, which was all but deserted, studying the ways of her people in ancient times. Annanoldowen was beckoned by King Elessar to help educate scholars in the ways of the elves. She became a good companion of the king and his wife, Arwen Undomiel, an old friend. She carries a sword with the words: Annanoldowen, daughter of Rivendell inscribed on the blade in elvish and silver vines entwine the hilt. She doesn’t use a bow, because it is too awkward to carry on her journeys, and she is not so good at it, anyways. Now she runs what is left of the people of Rivendell.

Any special features: Also wears a silver feather pendant on a leather string around her neck.
*********************************************

Alright. Should she send messengers to Lothlorien and Mirkwood too to get an army of some sort together that comes to aid Erebor at the last moment? THey would arrive towards the very end of the RPG. It's just an idea, but I don't think the arrival of our company will defeat the enemy ... any thoughts from anybody?

We have reached the summit, and entered the pass itself. Those of you that have seen the movie no what the Caradhras is generally like.

Keep the company moving during your posts, as it is about a weeks journey through the pass.

Check the thread. You will see the dangerous scenario that I have set up for the company. This will be the last major setback on the Caradhras, but there my be a few more here and there.

The elves: One of you needs to spot the enemies on the plateau, and spread the word for all with bows to get them ready. Then, everyone sends a speeding volley of shafts upward, killing most of the men (but not Kaldon). Then, the trap will be useless.

We are done with the Caradhras! We're now at camp, and I will compress time tomorrow. The only thing left is Mirkwood, which will take some time, unless someone has a good idea for a subplot along the way of the wastelands? I'm open to suggestions.

Faybevin: Welome to the Barrowdowns! Its always nice to get a complement!

Maikafanawen: I believe that I have now defined, "rediculously long post" smilies/wink.gif Check out the game thread.

Everyone else: It has now been proven that Belfalod was a plant, but he turned away from that path to join ours. His passing was and honorable one.

Soon we will be moving on, bound for Mirkwood.

We need to wrap this game up by April 20ish, so here is a scedule of our last plots to come.

- I compress time, we reach mirkwood.

- We find the old forest road, and take it.

- A member of the company gets captured by Kaldon & com. I will pm the person so it is a surprise to others.

- Everyone thinks the person is lost, looks for them.

- They are found, no one but Kaldon escapes.

- I compress time, we travel through most of mirkwood.

- We are attacked by spiders.

- Arrival at the hall of king Thranduil. We have fun with elves.

- I compress time, we reach Erebor. We find small army (about 300 Uruk Hai) attacking, defeat them easily, build up defenses.

- The larger army (about 5,000) Uruk Hai attack, (we are now inside Erebor), and we have a climatic "Helms Deep Like" battle.

- When all seems lost, the Gondorian army (500 footsoldiers) arrives, and gives us the edge to defeat the army.

- The treasure is given out, and the last posts (the members of the company dispersing) are put in.

-I finish the game by having Bali watch the last one go off, and have him and Eruantalon "Go off over the hill together."

Well, there is the rest of the game, and we need to have it finished in about three weeks. One week for mirkwood, and two for the other stuff. Lets speed this up!
