Edit: 06/30/2004
Please note that Gilthalion is no longer moderating this wonderful RPG. And it will not be edited into a fanfiction as far as I know.
All the rules found in The Red Book of Westmarch, the first topic in the Shire Forum, will now apply to the playing of this game.
At present I am awaiting contact from the last game owner for this RPG concerning re-opening it for play.
Refer all your questions to me, if you will.
Thank you for your patience!

Hello and welcome to the MIRKWOOD RPG! I am Gilthalion, your Moderator.
I've started this topic thread to introduce you to the basic rules and constraints of this RPG (Role Playing Game). You can sign in here and I will tell you how to best enter the tale! This is also available for OOC (Out Of Character) discussions about the game itself. This is the place for questions and answers. Please communicate here. I am slow answering emails, and generally do not answer game related questions by email. I am sometimes (Weeknights Central Time) available on the Barrow Downs Chat and will happily chat with you about the games on those occasions.
First of all, this RPG is a WRITING game. When we have "finished," the text will be edited and published as a collaborative Fan Fiction on the Barrowdowns.com website! With that in mind, try to write as well as you can, with the fewest errors you can manage and the most imagination you can muster. Try your very best (and we are not so very critical) to write in Tolkien's style and spirit.
Secondly, this RPG must work within Tolkien's Middle-earth as much as possible. There will be no 12th level Hobbit Mages, you can't be a wizard, and you can't play a major character from the books. As Moderator, I will handle any interactions with "actual" characters, such as King Thranduil or Legolas Greenleaf. I might assign such a role to certain individuals at my discretion. Wildly impossible characters or events will be deleted.
I will sometimes edit your posts. I am not being mean when I do this. I am not saying that I don't like you or your writing! But sometimes, for reasons that might only be known to me, I will add or subtract a little something from your post. Don't feel bad when this happens! When I have the time, I will correct egregious language errors. If I see a post that seems too far from the Tolkien feel, I will be certain to edit it. I might let minor errors or problems pass, and save those edits for the final product.
Be aware that this game will move a little slowly. Also, you will find that people tend to drop in and out. Some folk will write a lot, and some will write a little. Some folk post quickly, and others have to take more time.
Our story begins several years before the War of the Ring. Your characters will not be aware of the events surrounding that war, since they have not happened yet! Nevertheless, some of the characters from LORD OF THE RINGS are alive and active at the time, so you might meet one by chance.
Mirkwood in these days is largely inhabited by elves. There may be some men on the northwest fringes near the valley of the northern Anduin. Erebor is inhabited by Smaug and the lands about the Lonely Mountain are desolate. The Lakemen are in Laketown upon the Long Lake. The Elves of the Golden Wood are far away and have not been seen in centuries by their distant relatives in the Woodland Realm of Thranduil. The great forest has become unwholesome in many places, especially in the south. Dol Goldur is there, and the Necromancer has been vanquished. Yet, the evil place stands and has been left unguarded since that day...

Rinurion, at your service. I was in the party that went with Legolas Greenleaf when we were attacked by the ruffians. Despite being young, i have shown good leadership skills in the few battles i have been in. I am proficient with all weapons, especially my bow. In hand to hand combat, i have excelled, winning the right to be the keeper of Angalath, a Halberd that is a relic of the elder days, reputedly made by feanor himself, although this cannot be verified.
The coming expedition needs a skilled leader, or maybe just a skilled warrior who can keep his head in danger. I hope it is possible for me to go.

Sauche the elf girl can join in at some point after the volunteers bring the prisoners to Thranduil.
Rinurion, I'm afraid that it is highly unlikely for a wood elf of the Silvan race to acquire the kind of weapon you describe. Glorfindel or some elf lord at Imladris might have such a thing. Certainly not a young brave of Thranduil's realm! Legolas carries a bow and a knife. You may have the same.
How young is "young?" Just curious! Welcome aboard. Hope you can get your prisoners back safely!

I want to be in it too! Legolas is my all time favorite character and I don't care what I am as long as I'm an elf girl named Taraancaiel. I've written my own fan fic before (still in process) and I have some pretty good ideas and can write fairly good too. Please keep me updated smilies/smile.gif

lol, i knew that weapon was a long shot, but i had 2 try smilies/smile.gif. Only a knife? no sword? or spear? not even a small elven sword? awwww....
Young, umm, well, ive kept my age consistant at 938 for a while now, but that can change...

OK!!!
Sauche::
Age: A mere 300 years (The appearance of a sixteen year old)
Height: 5 foot 7 inches
Weight: 125
Weapon of choice: A bastard sword
Hair color: A light gold colour with crimson highlighty thingies.
Eye colour: One eye green, the other gold
Defining characteristics: A scar through her left eye (Teh gold one) that goes from a bit over her eyebrow to the top of her eyelid, and then from the bottom eyelid to the rise of her cheek that she accquired fighting off an orc in her wanderings.
BG: A rogue ranger, she does not know her parents or family, she is a skilled warrior, who has a dark interior. (You'll understand, I've played one chara like this before-difficult, but very very interesting!) She can be described as the yin, and untamed. She does fight for a justice, but she is by far no braveheart (Shes no goody-two shoes!)
Okay, I hope that passes. One more thing, after they bring in the prisoners...hmmmsa....should she also be a prisoner? Maybe for defying someone?

Ok, here's some info about Taraancaiel.
Around 700 years old, I don't know how old that is in elf years, but close enough for me smilies/tongue.gif She's about 5'10 with long brown hair and large green eyes. She's an ok fighter, only with a bow though, but is well educated in elvish medicine and healing. She's kinda shy, but can be bold when need be. She also has a white mare named Moonbeam. That's all I can think of right now, so I'll write more later!

Good afternoon my fellow elves and elf-maidens. I bring good tidings from Lothlorien!(not quite sure if you meant Lothlorien by "Golden Wood" If you did, I'll be from Rivendell, or maybe I'm just from Mirkwood and have been there all my life?)
I'm so excited!!!! hopefully you all will let me join. Yes, I am a female, and maybe I can be friends with one or more of the other girls. In elf years I have just turned 2,900. My hair is ankle length black with purple/maroonish streaks. I have purple eyes and I am 5'10 1/2" My horse's name is Muse, she is more silverish in color than grey. I have a longbow, and when traveling, i take my walking staff made of mahogany wood with carved ivy winding all up it and at the top is a small chuck of emerald that, if held just right in the light, it seems almost to have flames inside. I also might carry a short elvish knife with moonwritings on it. (with approval) I am known in Lothlorien(or wherever{see above}) as the fairest of the young elves, seeing as Galadriel is the fairest. (If at all possible in any way shape or form, I'd like to somehow get some time with Legolas PLEASE!!)(sorry mixing OOC with IC) I have come to Mirkwood to establish residence in the great halls of the king. (don't quite know why I've come, yet). Thats all I can think of at the moment but if I find I forgot something, I will add it.
Oh, and P.S. I'm trying to shorten my name

Well, even though i shouldn't I would like to join the mirkwood RPG. My charachter is the same as in the rohan rpg (dwarf etc.) with the exception that he is a bit older, seeing that this is a litte after the rohan adventure. That is if it would be pluseable for a dwarf to be in mirkwood during such times.
I would also like to apply for the job of writing for the king of lonely mountain should the need arise for such a charachter. All this being subject to Gil's approval of course.
At your service!

Wow!
What a gang!
I see a lot of confusion about the elves of Mirkwood. READING ASSIGNMENT! Go back and read the descriptions in THE HOBBIT. There are other references to the Silvan elves in the SILMARILLION. I'm not the expert loremaster that you might find in the SILMARILLION FORUM, but I know this much about them:
They are a "rustic" folk. They never journeyed to the West. They don't know half of what the Rivendell elves know. They don't ride horses. They are even closer to nature than the elves of Rivendell. Only Thranduil has any great wealth or heirlooms.
In order:
Rinurion
Please jump in and volunteer with the prisoners! Try to remember that wood elves are not like the elves of Rivendell.
Sauche
You do like the wild-child bit! "Ranger" is not a good word to use in this context, because of its particular meaning in Middle-earth. Do you like to hunt? Well, you shouldn't do it in Thranduil's preserve! Go ahead and write about getting caught! I'll throw you in prison and tell you why. BTW: Your parents were killed by orcs. That's when you got your scar and your attitude. Try to work it into your introductory post.
Taraancaiel
I see that I will get a lot of elf girls! Join in after the party brings the prisoners to Thranduil. I don't think that these wood elves bothered with horses, not living in the meadows, but in the forest. How would you like to ride a magnificent White Hart?
Lhunaglar
Jump in and help Rinurion with the prisoners.
Nefrodiel-Amarylis
You can be the prettiest little elf in Thranduil's realm. Lothlorien/The Golden Wood has been a protected realm for a long-long time. It is very rare for any to leave, and few who enter ever return. Sorry, no horses.
Dwarin Thunderhammer
If you have business with Thranduil (who is SLIGHTLY more tolerant of dwarves after the Battle of the Five Armies) then I suggest you leave Erebor immediately and make your way to the Woodland Realm. Go ahead and write the scene between yourself and King Dain that sends you on your way.

Hiya Gil, Rin, et al. smilies/smile.gif
I have neither the time nor the patience to be a large contributor to the RPG, but if and when the situation arises that you need a small filler character for a scene or two, let me know, and I shall be happy to do it!

Ok, I'm sorry if I don't know quite as much as the rest of you about this stuff, I didn't read the hobbit I only read the three lor books. And what is a white hart anyway? And I was thinking, maybe I could be like a servant to the royal family, preferably to Legolas but ok if not. Kinda like a Sam-Frodo thing would be cool smilies/smile.gif Ok, all I can think of right now so bye.

Everything you said is fine with me. I guess I'll just be a native of Mirkwood so that its a bit easier to explain why I'm here. So much for the horse(I named it after a friend's screenname) smilies/tongue.gif But do the weapons and walking staff sound acceptable? I'm quite flexible. Thanks for letting me be the prettiest! smilies/biggrin.gif That makes me really feel "privileged" is the word I suppose. Oh and for everybody all at once, please forgive my posts that sometimes lack in grammatical finesse. I'm so excited about this. I just wanted to voice my emotions. this is the forst Rpg I have actually gotten into since i registered. Good luck to you all! IC: I am Tinuiel, a quiet wood elf of Mirkwood. I have long, raven dark hair and silver\gray eyes. I am a fairly quiet elf, ponderous and pensive. My demeanor sets me apart from the merry rustic folk of Thranduil's realm and thus makes me a little bit of a loner. I carry a bow and twin daggers.
OOC: Gilthalion, feel free to stick me wherever you wish. I'd like to contribute quite a bit to the RPG. I've taken some writing classes and written several fantasy stories. I'm currently working on a novel.

Just so anyone and everyone knows, I am very fond of IC romances. I have no idea why....nayah, if ya could work that into itl, like a side part of the plot...that would rock, anyone. And how the heck am I gonna get OUT of the prison and join the party? Escape? Release? RRrrrrromance? (wink wik, nudge nudge, cough cough say no more.)

Ok, I'm sorry this don't really go along with the whole rpg thingy, but I have a question. I'm reading the hobbit now, just like you said we should do smilies/smile.gif, and I want to know if the elven king is thranduil. I'm pretty sure it is, but it never says his name, at least it don't where I am. Ok, sorry I know this is a stupid question but it was bugging me and you all seem to know a lot more about this than me, but I am trying smilies/biggrin.gif

In no particular order:
~Thranduil is indeed the King of the Woodland Realm! Father of Legolas.
~I don't expect Legolas to be heavily involved in the story. But you never know, since the plot may change.
~Being a servant of the royal family is fine with me. But it would be a little more formal than a Frodo-Sam relationship. A bit less homey and familiar. More charged with honor and duty. But don't expect to pal around with Legolas all the time!
~I don't think swords are often seen among the wood elves. Knives and arrowheads are about the most iron I think you would see. I'm not altogether certain they would not use stone for arrowheads, since flint is sharper than steel. I am of the opinion that rustic wood elves are very close to nature. Perhaps only the royal household would have many items of metal. Things like staves, bows, arrows, knives, snares, nets, ropes, traps, animal calls, knowledge of terrain, speaking with animals, ambushes, feigned voices, sleep spells, etc. can all be used to great advantage.
~We want to keep a wood elvesy feel to things. Let your characters really get into the scenery around them once in a while.
~No problem with romantic subplots. You never know how they might wind up affecting the main plot!
Now I'm going to go read the latests posts!

Hello, I'm a pretty quiet elven girl. I am neither very tall nor very short, not extremly beautiful or uglu (after elven standards) I'm pretty unoriginall, and I like thinking and philosophing about my surroundings. I carry a knife for my protection, but no other weapons. I'm allways in search for gaining more wisdom, and has also allways been atracted by the thought of the sea, though I have never seen it or had any plans of leaving ME..
I have dark brown hair, dark eyes and is about 6" tall.. I'm 3168 years old, that would be about 22 in elven years. I often sit silently, watching beautiful things and thinking elfish thoughs (the elven kind of sleeping) and may be found like that.
OOC: Ok, I thought I had to be a peaceful girl, because at every other RPG I've seen there's about eleventy-one girls that are elven warrior-maidens, so I thought a philosophing girl could be a bit of a contrast?? Oh well.. Please tell me where I should start posting.

I would like to be the silvan elf, Anarya, daughter of an archer of Mirkwood. actually I have never even been out of Mirkwood before. My basic deal is that I am young for an elf, 244 yrs to be precise, but I am very skilled with a bow for my young age. I can be very outspoken and loud and am somewhat niave. I am 5'7, with golden hair and greenish blue eyes. If you could fit me in on the story that would be great!!thanx smilies/smile.gif

lol, gil. werent u wondering if there would be enough interest? i think we have enough elves to form the entire honour guard of king Tharandil himself. which is a good thing. i just hope you have designed this plot to include a LOT of characters.
staffs as a wood elf weapon? i think that keeps with the theme, doesnt it?

Hullo! I hope I am not too late to join! Well, if I am thats okay, but I will just tell you who I am. My character is a young Hobbit (has not come of age yet, aroud 25). She has lived in Hobbiton her entire life, but the stories from the ouside has woken the Took in side of her and she now looks for adventure outside the vally. She is fifth cousin of Perigen Took on her fathers side.
Gilthalion
03-13-2002, 11:32 PM
Uh oh! This is going to be difficult! In no particular order:
Mayla Took:
I am having a difficult time seeing how a hobbit lass in her tweens winds up on her own so far from home! This is your scenario. Rather than simply giving in to wanderlust, you have been sent to Dale by your grandfather (tragically, your parents are dead, sorry) who owns Took Mercantile & General Store in Hobbiton. You are to buy various items, dwarven toys and tools, wine rafted up from Dorwinion, and bring them back to Hobbiton. He has put his entire life's savings into your hands. You travel with dwarves (acquaintences of Mr. Bilbo Baggins, who lives in Bag End!). You will meet Dwarin Thunderhammer after he leaves Erebor an passes through Dale...
Dwarin Thunderhammer:
Hey! Now you've got a hobbit waiting for you in Dale! The two of you should meet and interact there after you leave Erebor...
Taraancaiel:
A white hart is a deer. A stag. Big antlers. Wild. Solid white. Faster than anything in the forest. Very wood elvesy! What more could a healer ask for? Jump in after Thranduil issues a few orders...
[b]Gayahithwen:[b]
I'm afraid the pensive elf girl must philosophically attend to her duties in the kitchen. Don't you have to take some meals 'round to the prisoners soon? Especially that wild elf girl they finally caught? Wait for her to be incarcerated...
Dwarin Thunderhammer
03-14-2002, 10:16 AM
Sounds great gil! Somone to interact with, A hobbit no less! This could prove interesting.
Gil I must confes I have been holding off on writing my first post, firstly I must rerieve my hobbit from a friend, err wait my copy of the hobbit. Secondly you give some rather confusing information. First you say:
Our story begins several years before the War of the Ring. Your characters will not be aware of the events surrounding that war, since they have not happened yet! Nevertheless, some of the characters from LORD OF THE RINGS are alive and active at the time, so you might meet one by chance.
But in the very next paragraph you say:
Mirkwood in these days is largely inhabited by elves. There may be some men on the northwest fringes near the valley of the northern Anduin. Erebor is inhabited by Smaug and the lands about the Lonely Mountain are desolate. The Lakemen are in Laketown upon the Long Lake.
But then a few posts later
If you have business with Thranduil (who is SLIGHTLY more tolerant of dwarves after the Battle of the Five Armies) then I suggest you leave Erebor immediately and make your way to the Woodland Realm.
I'm sure you see the problem. I'm sorry if this is taken nitpicking or criticizing, because it is not meant that way. I just want to make sure of the path down which I will be writing.
One last thing Gil, I would like to thank you for all the hard work you've put in in these RPG's. You have made a friendly enviroment and a quite absorbing storyline. Thanks for all your hard work, you're the best!

Gil, since this is my only chance to ever "set foot" in Mirkwood... here goes!
I am Rûdhchamion. A youthful male elf around 2500 years old. Blue-black hair (shoulder-lengthed) and grey eyes, stands 5'10". Clad in green and brown leather. Witnessed the killing of his parents by a group of orcs and men when our small elven village near the Vale of Anduin was raided. Had a twin sister, Pennnauriel who died in my arms after being hit by an orcish poison tipped dart during that same raid.
Since then I've been wandering alone. Or perhaps it can be said that I've been hunting alone.
My favored weapon is a longbow (a gift from my father) and a jewelled hunting knife from my sister. Well used have these been hunting orcs and orc allies!
Though I've hunted game before, my arrows now are reserved for my enemies. I've developed a bond with the woodland animals (as often as elves usually do), and I love watching and "speaking" to them.
(Okay, more later... and now let me prepare to jump in!!) smilies/biggrin.gif

I feel sorry for Gil. ::Hugs Gil:: Too many Elf girlies. I pwomise Ill be intervesting! ^^ Yah-huh! Okay, so if anyone wants to play wuvvy wif meh, tell me and we can start working on it I guess. I wonder how you get out of the slammer though.... hmmmm
GIL,
the jewelled hunting knife was from my twin sister... its dwarven made (some elves did have trades with the dwarves before, right?).
Gilthalion
03-17-2002, 03:17 PM
Whoops! Sorry Dwarin. Yes, Smaug is dead! The Battle of the Five Armies has long since been won, and Dain Ironfoot is King Under the Mountain. You start from Erebor, and pick up the hobbit in Dale. (Do you have some trade in the Shire? Are thes dwarves that accompany our young hobbit lass working for you? Has Dain got anything to do with it, or does he have something else up his sleeve?)
When the opportunity for romance comes, take it. But right now our dark elf (how dark?) is in the forest and our wild child (how wild?) is locked in the slammer.

just thought I'd add in
my char is Novannoniel(Mist Maiden)
she's about 2,000 years old, she could be either Tharanduil or Legolas's sister
she carries a knife in a scabberd on her leg,but it's concealed by her dress
she's brave when she has to be,but not the warrior type, what kind of instrument would a wood elf play?(not a harp or anything like that I assume)
maybe for an introduction(only ideas)she could take over the kitchen a second while a servent delivers food to Sauche,or,ask about the prisoners and talk to them that way or something else
Dwarin Thunderhammer
03-18-2002, 03:39 PM
Gil, I've written and re-writen but I just can't write the beginning of my involvement. Today I talked to shieldmaiden a bit and we came up with an idea that might be easier to work with. Instead of Dwarin Thunderhammer,my charachter will be his brother who is married. His nagging wife (Smrda) has decided to come along for the trip for some reason that hasn't been decided yet. We will still be sent by Dain and we will still pick up Mayala at Laketown. This way any entalgments with other events (such as may happen in th other rpg) will be avoided, ad a avenue for comic relief is opened.

How dark? Would Rûdhchamion be allowed to be Nandorin? (hmmm, maybe not - they're a bit haughty... but I can't make up my mind to be either Sindarin or Silvan, and Noldor was a bit too ambitiuos... but Rûdhchamion's physical traits are dark-haired, grey eyed. smilies/biggrin.gif
Regarding his "dark personality"... less gay than the average wood-elf, more serious. The songs Rûdhchamion sings (or will sing) are tinged with sadness (and anger). He's more warrior-like now, his skills in combat have been honed because of his desire to find and kill those (particularly all orcs, goblins and even men who have allied themselves with orcs) responsible for the death of his loved ones. He keeps his silence and thoughts to himself (don't most elves?)
=======================
Dwarf-wife??? Now that is definetly interesting... I thought the dwarvenfolks never let their females roam about in ME (this must be a very rare case!). Maybe Rûdhchamion can meet her and the hobbit girl and learn something more than just going after orcs and killing.
========================
Oh BTW GIL,
Rûdhchamion does not want to be a leader of anything... let him be force to help Rin (or somebody) in a quest or something to that effect. (I can do the craziest things sometimes - after effects of D&D?/AD&D RPG playing, hehehehe)
Oh, and thanks for letting Rûdhchamion keep the knife (I thought you'd think it a bit out of plce for him to have a jewelled hunting knife, and one made by dwarves at that!)

I am Elenya of Forlindon. I am 600 years old, very similar in features to my cousin Arwen. I am skiled with a bow, and also carry a sword. I ride a black stallion named Ore. My father, leader of the Elves at Forlond, had sent me to Lorien with an private message and a small band of men, because he was worried for Celeborn and Galadriel. I was attacked on the way there, by orcs, and the message was intercepted, and all my men were lost. I was stabbed in the leg, hence my noticible limp. I recovered in Rivendell, and am making my way back to Forlond, and currently am at Weathertop.

You are nowhere near any of this action! In fact you are headed in the opposite direction! If we start another RPG in ERIADOR then your character might have a place!
Where is the rpg going anyway out of curiosity? Or are we just sort of going with the flow on it. just wondering.
If I TOLD you where the RPG was going, that would take the G out of it! I do have an actual plot, but it may take a little while to work out since we now have so many folk. That means that while there is a sequence of events that I have planned, there is a lot of just "going with the flow," too.

Okay, I'm new at this, so don't yell at me, but I'll see if I can fix it. I'll start over: I am Elenya of Forlindon. I am 600 years old, very similar in features to my cousin Arwen. I am skilled with a bow, and also carry a sword. I ride a black stallion named Ore. My father, leader of the Elves at Forlond, had sent me to Lorien with an private message and a small band of men, because he was worried for Celeborn and Galadriel. I was travelling on the old forest road. Riders (not the Nazgul, but something else) attacked at the base of the mountains, and I was forced to retreat into Mirkwood.
Help on finishing this? smilies/frown.gif
Gilthalion

Elenya: Tell you what! How about if you are a cousin of Arwen (never mind how), your father is an elf-lord in Rivendell, you ride the horse alone on the old forest road, and you are headed to Thranduil with a warning from Elrond about the rise of the power in Mordor and the potential for trouble at Dol Goldur. You are alone because you were waylaid by orcs in the mountain passes and you were the only elf to escape...
As for the rest of you, go with the flow! I have nothing specific planned for any of you. I will try to play off of your ideas as much as possible. There are events that will transpire in the background, and you will have to respond to these, but otherwise, you are writing this as much as I am! Have fun!

Just popping in for a moment...
The RPG is going well! We have some very imaginative writers! Glad to see a villain (Thenamir) in the crew!
Rinurion rightly guesses that Thranduil will have orders shortly. Stand by for the trials! It may take a day or two for me to post it. Then, MARCHING ORDERS!
There will be divergent threads of action, but things ought to come together as time passes. Be prepared! Obviously, these RPGs take many weeks to finish, and in fact all of them so far have either petered out or bogged down at times. But as I said, this looks like as talented a group as we've had, and if you can be patient, and post every two or three days, we will gradually have a story that will make a fine read!
Keep up the good work!
(Now if I can get those sluggards in Rohan to take care of business...)

Genandra of Mirkwood

Hi there- is it too late to join the RPG?? I'm brand new to the site but have begun to create the character Genandra in other forums. As she is a Mirkwood elf, here we are! I'm a long-time Tolkien fan and writer, but still refining both Tolkien knowledge and writing skills so I'm open to any and all suggestions. Please let me know if it's possible to join the RPG. Here's the goods on Genandra so far:
I am an elf of Mirkwood, born to a common family but in the distant past we had connection to the Eldar so there is a yearning in me both to travel and to learn of other races. That will not happen until during/after the War of the Rings. I am older, in appearance around 28, and known for kindness and wisdom. Basically, I am a healer, in particular a healer of plants and animals. I do talk to them and enjoy their company better than my own kind, though I rarely let that show. I may have husband and children or have lost them in battle? I carry a slender knife in the folds of my tunic but my main weapon is the bow, of which I am very skilled. Since I spend much time in the deep forests, often alone, I've had occasion to battle spy-parties of orcs. I am a poet and write poems of trees and plants. After the War of the Ring, I'll have heard rumors of the ents and finally give in to my wandering yen, undertaking a journey to Fangorn. As the ents learn of my skills they will put me to work restoring the green things of Isengard. Like me, they want to see the waste places brought back to life. I also think they hope I can make it a place that will appeal to the Entwives.
That's it so far! I will immediately get onto the suggestion of re-reading the Hobbit and the Silmarillion for more info on the Silvan elves. Good to meet all of you.

Sauche,
be patient for a little while more... Rûdhchamion is getting curious about the men, he might contrive a way to get a good look at them (hopefully without getting caught). Maybe then he'll finally meet you! (again hopefully with him NOT inside a cell)
But the only way he can do that is to get inside Thranduil's realm. I'm trying to figure out how his going to do that...
Tell you what... if he reaches you and you're still incarcerated, MAYBE he'll try to rescue you - that would also depend on where this story's headed... hold it, there are prison guards... hmmmm
First, I need help getting in.... maybe Anarya will help smilies/tongue.gif

I read your post and saw where you might need a little help getting into the prison thing.I had an idea that maybe I'd know another person to get in the prison and stuff. I'm still working on it but so far I think I've got a way. I just don't know what I'm gonna do once I get in there (If I ever do)
Also, I'm not an "elfling". That makes me sound like a tree or something. I'm a young elven girl, it sounds more refined smilies/smile.gif

I have a suggestion to maybe help you get into the prison. I could get you in. Seeing as now that I have taken an interest in the young "wild" girl, I have a reason to be in the prison. I could possibly dress you up as my bestfriend (read: as a girl) and say I'm taking you to see what has been consuming my time these past days.
Oh and I think Ahanarion and I maybe need to speed things up a bit seeing as everybody else has progressed in days while we stand here talking in minutes...... Anyways just a suggestion for all parties included. Oh and I agree witht the whole sideplot romantic interlude.
ok gonna go see the new posts

Anarya,
hahahaha! I'm coping with the flu, but my doc thinks bombarding me w/ stuff that make me feel like I'm floating is s'pose to help... smilies/eek.gif ("elfing" is a sort of name-calling Rûdhchamion used to tease his sister w/ ... okay, he won't call Anarya an elfing... *tries to look sincere, but doesn't quite accomplish it*) smilies/biggrin.gif
Anyways, even if Sauche "the wild one" gets help from Gen - it'll still be interesting if Rûdhchamion gets in... and how you get him in.... besides Rinurion seems friendly, (to you anyway, hehehe) smilies/tongue.gif
-that is he may not "turn you in" (I think)
Leighlei,
hey! you got Genandra's sympathy... Sauche's howling must have done it! hehehehe -jus' joking smilies/biggrin.gif
Fair Amryllis
actually "the Dark Elf" hasn't met "The Wild One" yet... Rûdhchamion's main purpose is to see if the easterlings can give him a clue on who killed his parents - killing them is also one of his choices of action, he doesn't trust men.
I hope he'll meet Sauche there...
you mean HE has to dress up like a GIRL????

Hello! Do you still need some characters for the Mirkwood RPG?
I´m not sure about a good character yet, but I´d like to be some kind of young elven girl.
I thought of a rebelious girl, that is different from the other elves in Mirkwood.
But there are already characters like that, so I´m just asking what persons you still need for the story.

I am grieved that I only lately have discovered the RPGs. I have no experience in RPG, but I do have writing experience, and I think I'd enjoy this. Is there any possiblity I can join? If not on the Mirkwood one, what should I do?
I see what you mean about having too many elven women/girls. It is rather unrealistic, is it not? Hmm...Although I'd rather be an elf, I can be...a hobbit? Mayla's character perhaps could use some companionship. I don't really know, that was just off the top of my head...I would say I'd like to help in any way I can, I'm not sure if I can handle writing a male character...at least not yet. However if that's what you need (and it appears it is) give me the go-ahead and I'll take my best shot at it.
Either way, it's been a pleasure and I really enjoyed reading what's up so far. Keep up the good work, everyone!

Serenide Sorry! Full up on elf-girls at the moment.
Nuranar I hate to make exceptions, but we might edit you in as a middle-aged hobbit woman, a nurse-maid who looks after Mayla Took.
This RPG is moving along with a lot of subplots. I have no idea who these mysterious hooded mortals are. I'm going to allow it, because it looks good. But please, try not to introduce new subplots without some communication with me.
As for editing, most of that will take place when we convert the RPG to a Fan Fic.
"Time! Time!" cried Bilbo. That's exactly what I need more of, too! I'll try to make more for this RPG. I confess that I am surprised (and a little pleased) at all of the folk who want to take part. But there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Gil,
sorry about the "mortals" lurking about, i kind of started it, but it wasn't meant to be a subplot... smilies/frown.gif i said "a small group of elves, come out from the other side of the path..."- along the way they musta morphed into hooded mortals somehow! smilies/biggrin.gif heheheh!
Hey gang! (namely, all the lovely elf maidens I've met so far in the woods),
I'm kind of getting bored so I've inserted a tiny scuffle with some "bad creatures", it shouldn't last long. Let's test our fighting skills... smilies/wink.gif

Hey, Leighli--I was thinking that maybe you'd drop your weapon and come with me. I was thinking I'd take both you and Thalionyulma before Thranduil together. I don't know if you want to fight the guards, but I think it'll be a little unconvincing if Thranduil decides not to kill you after that. Let me know what you want to do.
Thalionyulma--Do you mind the turn of events? I won't let Thranduil kill you or anything. I just figured that if you ever wanted to get inside the castle, you'd have to go through Thranduil.
Anarya, Novannon--Sorry I just sent you away. I figured we needed to split up. Feel free to join us again when you feel it's appropriate. smilies/smile.gif Maybe we should kill (I don't mean that literally smilies/wink.gif) 3 birds with one stone and bring Mornovarion before Thranduil with Sauche and Rûdhchamion.

Hit you? Ok...you asked for it. smilies/wink.gif (I hope the T stood for Tinuiel and not Thalionyulma, but I guess the result would be the same anyway.
Hey Leighlei~ I left it open for you to wake. I need you to give me something to work with because as it is, I don't think Tinuiel would just disobey the laws of her country and let you escape. But if you can convince her that you're not evil, like Rûdhchamion did, then I know she'd be more than willing to put in a good word with you with Thranduil...speaking of whom..
Hmm...Hey Gil..you gonna step in as Thranduil, or do we have to write him in ourselves?
Oh, and I've had another brilliant idea. So, maybe not brilliant, but it's an idea. What if Tinuiel brings Sauche and Rûdhchamion before Thranduil (and Anarya, Novannon and Mornovarion conveniently show up at the same time smilies/wink.gif), then... Thranduil is angry at Tinuiel for breaking the law multiple times in favor of the three stranger. Oh, of course he'll be angry with Anarya and Novannon as well. But in Thranduil's wisdom (perhaps influenced by a good word put in for them by Tinuiel's friend, Legolas?) he decided that as punishment for all of them...and that's where Gil's orders come in. I don't know. I just thought that maybe the King would set us on the mission to prove our faith. What do you guys think?

Lady Tinuiel,
its your call... I think it best to let you bring both of them (the wild one and the dark one) to your Elvenking. though should Rûdhchamion encounter the men (non-elves) he may try to do something unexpected (and foolish, if an elf could be that - its just how he is).

I regret that I had to delete the following post from the RPG. We have long since stopped taking new characters and we really can't take anymore rogue elf warrior maids.
I have been simply deleting other such posts (you'd be surprised at how many!) but this one was very well written and I worried that the author might not have kept a copy. Perhaps it will be useful in another RPG.
Pardon my ignorance, but is "draug" an elvish name for wolf? Wolf-poison seems un-Tolkienish to me somehow, but I might have missed something. If Celebruian is trudging through sludge, she's in the marshes near the stream that runs into the Long Lake. Is athelas bitter? Or is it minty fresh? (You could probably start an entire thread with that question!) I suspect that this post is something recycled from another story, but it is good reading, nonetheless.
Again, I found Manelwen's post very well written (or it would have simply been deleted without comment) but we aren't taking new characters or starting any new subplots at this time.
If the current players REALLY want this post reinstated, and want to take on a new subplot, I'll gladly reverse my decision...
That would mean that someone would have to be her rescuer...

---------------------------------------------Her boots squelched loudly in the glutinous sludge as she trudged along the path that led deep into the heart of Mirkwood's forests. The draug she had been tracking was no where in sight. Mentally, she berated her self as she laboured across the path, desperatly seeking dryer grounds.
She stopped. There was no sound in the wood. Nothing at all, which meant it was near by. Taking her axes out of their holdings, she gripped the leather covered handles until the squeaked. Celebruial smelled the stomach-churning reak of the beast and turned just in time to see it lunge at her from between two trees. Bringing her axe handles up, she grunted as the thing met her and the force of their impact, caused the slight elf to be slammed against a tree, its rough bark biting her scalp as her head it the hard wood. The wolf had hold of one axe in its great maw and the other rose above her head and with all the might she could muster, she drove the blade into its skull. It let out a great cry of pain as it let go of her other axe and began to thrash about wildly, spraying blood over the girl. She cried out in pain as it burned her skin and desperatly she wiped at it to get it off of her. The wolf cried once more before it fell to the ground in a twitching heap of fur.
When the elf had cleansed her skin with what little water she could spare, she looked at the wolf, and with a small shake of the head slowly drew out her knife, preparing to skin the beast and bring back the pelt to lay on her family's grave. There came another sound, another growl. Dread crashed against her sound mind like the waves on the cliffs of her home. Another draug stood behind her, mere footsteps away. Slowly Celebruial turned in time to feel the beast's jaw close around her right arm. The silver haired rogue screamed in pain and brought up her left axe to hew the creature's head from its neck, but it's jaw didn't fully clamp down, it fell at her feet with four arrows in its side. Clutching her arm, she looked around "Who is it?" She called.
There was nothing but silence to answer her.
"Come out and tell me who you are!" She demanded, clutching an axe in her uninjured arm. Heat radiated from the wound and she fought off the fever of the poisoned fangs. Her daily exposure to wolf poison made her somewhat immune to it, but not enough to keep her safe from harm. The poison wouldn't kill her as fast as it would a normal elf or man. In her attempts to fight off unconsciousness, she heard the soft hoot of an owl and smiled "There are no owls in this forest." She called, but dropped to her knees for the dipping and swaying of the forest floors was beginning to wear away at her balance. Or was it the poison? If I don't get the cure soon, I'll die. she thought grimly, and slowly reached back into her quiver for the small sack of herbs she kept hoarded away. Her strength slowly was sapped from her and she knew it was only a matter of time before she would die. She grabbed the leaf of Athelas and stuck it under her tongue. The bitter taste of it made her grimace, but the fever was quickly ebbing, leaving her defenseless and weak. With a groan, she gave in and collapsed bonelessly to the ground.

Maybe she could be allowed to join if the dwarves and hobbit(s) of our story were to find and rescue her. Her post would then have to be slightly edited to fit the story. Of course that is if everyone agrees. (but then, how many times will you allow this to happen Gil? still... it is a pretty good post)
I seem to recall that athelas had a "minty characteristic" to it. I don't recall that athelas was ever taken orally, though. It was crushed often, if I'm not mistaken, before it was applied to the injury. (Aragorn chewed it, then applied it to his comrades in LOTR, I think that counts as crushing it). Isn't their any other herb in ME other than athelas - I'm fighting the urge to giving a lecture on herbology already. Different herbs, different poultice for different ails... okay, athelas does have a wide range of uses/cures in ME.
I can't recall the "draug"... I think they're sort of werewolves or demonwolves, akin(?) to Carcharoth - I've got to check that one out. Wargs are most often mentioned. I don't think they (draug) are the wolf-riders either.

I was reviewing the entire story, and found that I missed a post of Thenamir's. I'll edit my last post and take that into account. As soon as we've taken care of all of our trespassers and law breakers, expect things to head south (so to speak).
I like the idea of the dwarves & hobbits rescuing this new elf maid. They are (presently) the only ones I might expect to be in the area soon. But I'm not certain they are continuing, having heard that they may be quiting from Dwarin in the chatroom.
I hope not!

Has anyone sent Dwarin a private message? I sent Rininurion one, to ask his permission if I could borrow his character in one of my post. I was going to have him meet with Rudhchamion's group on the way to Thranduil. Unfortunately we got there sooner than I could post it, sheez... I can be slow at this thing sometimes.
Hope he doesn't quit, dwarves are very resilient warriors... and interesting characters as well in any ME story, I believe. smilies/biggrin.gif
Smeagol & Anarya, if Mornovarion tries something, "Rinurion" may come into the scene (got to get Rin's permission, he may want to do it himself). You two okay with this?

I'm not sure I know how Mrs. Thranduil would react to courtiers with crushes on her royal husband. (If she is still around, that is.)
As for pensive serving girls, I've seen a hobbit swing a cookpot in Moria to great effect. Perhaps there is an elvish art to such a thing... Will Thranduil send a force of arms to meet the new threat? If so, they will surely need logistical support, and the elvish equivilant to a chuck wagon...

The elf maiden is looking forward to posting.
I am assuming you must travel from Dale, down the Long Lake, past the bones of Smaug south of the new Laketown, to the Forest River. The marshes lie all about it, and that is where you will encounter the elf maiden. Upstream is the Woodland Realm.
The geography alone will make for some pretty prose! (The jewel bespangled bones of the dragon beckoned with its curse through many fathoms of deep icy water. The few who dove for the cursed treasures had been cheated of reward and never resurfaced...)
Hopefully Dwarin will resume his dwarvish duties, for this was the pretext for a hobbit party (meeting the dwarf and his wife in Dale) to wind up in Mirkwood. If not, another pretext will have to be quickly found.
Laketown is a likely enough place. There, river elves could be found. What would the Shire have that could be of interest to Thranduil? (Don't say "pipeweed," since I'm pretty sure that elves would never think of taking up the habit of smoking!)

Welcome Manelwen!! It will be great to have you! I need to get my RPG act together! Maybe after finals week. But anyway, I will try to hurry and travel to where you are. It seems that I have a journey a head though! Ha ha. Hang loose and the Hobbits will come to your rescue ASAP!

Nor hurry, I am wandering around the freestyle RPG room, but nothing much is really happening...I am rather bored, really. smilies/biggrin.gif But I can keep myself occupied until then.
Do you want me to repost the blurb I did...with some minor changes made to it (of course)?

Hello fellow RPG enthusiasts,
The Freestyle RPG room is getting really busy with some cool RPG ideas but we lack good RPGamers like you lot.
The currents RPs - The Undying Lands and Rivendell War are good ideas abd could really benefit form seasoned RPGamers such as you.
Let's get it on people!

Hey Mornovarion--
I haven't put any words into your mouth cause I'm pretty sure you have a good idea of what you want to say. Hope you don't mind. If you want to collaberate some. Feel free to PM me. Unless you communicate to me otherwise, I'll confine my posts to my reactions and not your words. And I'm cool with that. Up to you if you want to chat about it. smilies/smile.gif
Oh Gil. One question. Is Legolas going to be gone for a prolonged period of time because Thranduil commanded me to relate all of Mornovarion's past to Legolas. Just wondering. smilies/smile.gif

Hmmmm, interesting... I now don't know how to react with Legolas, the prince is making the dark elf uncomfortable. I wasn't actually expecting him to join forces, so I'm keeping my post on him minimal. It is only now that I realize, my character never knew why they were attacked in the first place... hmmmm a subplot, or an event that would lead to the main quest? What do you think Boss Gilthalion? smilies/wink.gif
Of course the story still has along way to go... but when will the battles begin???!?
And where is Thenamir/Micanar?
Cimmerian, be careful with Sauche! Getting on her bad side is a no-no! Your lucky Rûdhchamion isn't around... of course that part of the story hasn't quite developed... yet. smilies/biggrin.gif

I hope someone of you might encounter me soon. It is no fun to just walk around in the halls, or be in the kitchen. Fortunate enough, we will probably get on our way soon, right Gilthalion?
As long as we're staying in the castle, I will just have to attend the normal kitchen duties, I suppose, unless someone talks to me.. Oh, never mind.. Being part of this is fun anyway, so I shall not complain.

Hello all!
Sorry for the absence, I was sick for a time... feeling better now-a-days and will be posting away! smilies/biggrin.gif
Gilthalion,
I was going to PM you regarding a problem I got into w/ Mirkwood RPG, but I solved it. Its hilarious actually, after looking back, and I wanted to share it w/ you guys for the moment...
a couple of my (lady) friends read our RPG story and got mad at me because of something I posted regarding my character getting uncomfortable w/ Legolas. They thought I wanted Legolas "out" of the scenes w/ Rûdhchamion. They hid all my Tolkien books and diskettes that had a fanfic I was finishing until I would write to you to bring him (Legolas) back.
Gilthalion, you have a new set of fans... they're reading your other fanfictions.
Genandra, why don't you jump in the story again???

Thalionyulma- thanks but you guys have enough characters, especially female elves. Anyway I'm enjoying sitting back and reading it! However if there's a need for a character I'd be willing to step in, I'd like to try my hand someday at a human or goblin or something.

Gilthalion,
I once said I'd add a "bad-guy", since you never answered if an RPGer could do multiple characters. Well, here he is! Wazrárz the Crazy... smilies/evil.gif
Of course, if you don't agree with this, I know its going to be erased. But hey, there's not enough males here... and fewer bad guys too!
But I was thinking of letting somebody "handle" him... if there are any takers! (Genandra, you interested?... you can make him a her if you want!) If not, and you'll allow this... I shall accept this madness happily.
Oh, and I got Rinurion's permission to use his character... w/ a promise that i'd return the character to him when the marching orders come if he still wants to.
(sorry, Rin, if you're reading this, it took this long, was sick and all... and I didn't quite know how to insert your presence in the stroy again.)
Again I know, if Gil doesn't agree with this, its going to be erased. But like I said, there's not enough males here... smilies/biggrin.gif
Anarya,
shall we make our adventure a bit more interesting? A little suspense... a little "thriller" (well, we have choices of battling wolves, orcs, spiders...what else?) And since Gil had said those strange hooded men sounded interesting, let's bring them back - but who could they be????
Intriguing... smilies/biggrin.gif

ok I think I want to go back and get rid of that elf guy in my post but I'm not exactly sure how. Do you all think it might be a good idea to send him in to battle? He could get killed off by an orc or something. Or maybe I should just go back and edit out all the stuff about him in my post? I changed my mind about the other person I want to deal with. smilies/tongue.gif

I'm running out of ideas what the hooded figures are... sorry the battle was shorter. ummm, i held back from teasing the young elf maid- but if she slips off a tree once more, i'll let Rûdhchamion call her elfling! (just joking!!! smilies/biggrin.gif ) Should I edit and make the fight longer? smilies/eek.gif

Thalionyulma - I just wanted to say that I think you are doing a great job out there! smilies/smile.gif
Amaryllis - I don't think you should edit him out of your post - I thought it was rather good! If you really want to get rid of him, let him be killed. In that way, your character will be able to have something to work against.. revenge, or just being a heartbroken young elven maiden.. whatever. I am not the right person to ask for advice - I'm an elf! smilies/smile.gif "Do not go to the elves for counsel, for they will say both no and yes"
Leighlei/Sauche - What do you think should happen next? I am running out of ideas! I don't really want my beautiful place to be ruined, but if neither you or me can come up with something better, I suggest we'd be attacked by some wild animals.. or something like that.. what do you think?

Gayahithwen, well I was going to suggest The Hobbit but then I saw you been there done that. smilies/smile.gif So...there are frustratingly few detailed references that I have found. Some description in the Sil in the section on the Rings of Power. Also some info in appendices to the chapter about Galadriel and Celeborn in Unfinished Tales. These are "The Silvan Elves and Their Speech" and "The Sindarin Princes of the Silvan Elves." Here's a sampler:
"The Silvan Elves hid themselves in woodland fastnesses beyond the Misty Mountains, and became small and scattered peoples, hardly to be distinguished from Avari; but they still remembered that they were in origin Eldar, members of the Third Clan, and they welcomed those of the Noldor and especially the Sindar who did not pass over the Sea but migrated eastward...Under the leadership of these they became again ordered folk and increased in wisdom. Thranduil father of Legolas of the Nine Walkers was Sindarin, and that tongue was used in his house, though not by all his folk."
I wonder if there is an example somewhere in myth or legend of a forest kingdom that Tolkien drew upon? I can't think of any off the top of my head but if there is one it might give creative inspiration.

Tinuiel,
actually the "sub-plot" w/c Gilthalion gave you and Mornovarion is an exellent one... there are several ways to manipulate the story, and leads to whatever the main plot may be! Its why the dark elf Rûdhchamion mentioned it several times. Your storyline actually supports the subplot Anarya and Rûdhchamion are in (and perhaps that of Amyrillis as well).
All the situation ALL our characters are in supports one another... that's what makes this RPG story very interesting. And we can still do a lot of things with it.
Remember folks, Gil told us to avoid getting stuck in a corner where we won't be able to get out of! smilies/biggrin.gif
Its one reason I think Gil is great at being a moderator. He guides us, not dictating what course we should take. It's where our imagination comes in that puts the fun in all this - eventually unfolding the adventure!
******************************************
Hey! The pensive kitchen elf and the wild child are hitting it off! (Sauche, Gaya CAN get pretty wild when she holds a pan and rolling pin! j/k smilies/tongue.gif )
... and what's this??? Amaryllis stumbling in where the two elf maidens are?
******************************************
Things I and Rûdhchamion are pondering at the moment (that may help those who are stuck w/ their character's situation).... 1) who are those strange hooded creatures and where did they come from? 2)silver coin w/ an emblem of the white hand(?) 3)why is there an increase of activities from outsiders 4) what is the slaying of the dark elf's kin connected in all this? 5) what is Mornovarion's connection w/ the unknown enemy? 6) what is Micanar's part in all this... is he just a pawn, or could he be part of a trap to dislodge Thranduil?
Now... where ARE the hobbits and dwarves??? and what possible connection will they add to this already intriguing story.... and what of that elf maiden lost in the wild (the one attacked by the draugs).
Okay.... enough babbling on my part and on to posting! LOL smilies/biggrin.gif

Hello GreatWarg,
interesting sub-story you've put in. Maybe Gilthalion will allow it (if he hasn't seen it yet). Too bad your white pup (awww, why not silver?) is too far from where Anarya and Rûdhchamion are (the dark elf is quite fond of animals, as all elves do!)... but of course you didn't specify your exact location. Although you mentioned Rivendell... why would they need to be in or pass Mirkwood?
Anarya,
Rûdhchamion won't be familiar w/ Saruman's symbol. He and his kind has lived far from the "civilized" communities and do not often mingle w/ outsiders. Your character will probably have more knowledge than he on this matter... although of course both of them may both be ignorant of the symbol. Ummm, shall we rescue the pup? he might come in handy! smilies/biggrin.gif

Well, first of all I want to say welcome to the BarrowDowns, Taralphiel. After that, I give you some kind of advice.. You haven't chosen a *very* common character - a human girl - but she still is a shieldmaiden, so I would say your chances of getting into the RPG aren't to great - but they are there, and I am not the person that judges..
If you really, really want to get into the RPG, you should make up a male character, preferably an elf, or someone similar.. we could really use one of those! But hey - don't listen to me, I'm way to tired to be for any good use.. come back in the morning when I've had abou 4 hours of good sleep.. then I might be able to help you!
What?? I thought Spot was a good name! Or something in that direction anyway! Funny that you jsut gave him that name, though.. Nothing like "white" or anything.. smilies/tongue.gif strange, strange....
Ok, GreatWarg, corrected the grammar error/made myself more clearer so you'll understand me.. better? smilies/tongue.gif

Hey that’s great! Post more! The dark elf and Anarya may meet the nasties who captured Mornovarion! I like how Tinuiel tried to comfort Morno… what more horrors will the two share as the tortured elf remembers? And will Morno’s story show some clue who the Unnamed enemy is?
Our story is starting to unravel!
Hmmmm… I got to post more on Rin’s elf and that Orc. (Hey Gil hasn’t said anything yet so I’m posting them).
Tara,
welcome! And like my fellow RPGers said…. If you want to jump in…. make your char. interesting, make her/him unique. Each character supports the others.
Post and we’ll check it out… but no promises! Gilthalion is the Boss here! A suggestion on your character… maybe he/she can team up w/ Myla the Hobbit or get captured by the orc (since my orc is a late entry too!). What do you think people?

me ? Have a clear idea? Hehehe... you’re the first EVER to say I have a clear idea of any sorts! Ask Gayahithwen, she often has to hit me w/ a frying pan to get me back to my senses! smilies/biggrin.gif
Tinuiel
you and Mornovarion are doing great. Your posts are complimenting one another’s... it was a big challenge that Gilthalion had thrown at both of you. A challenge I think you both are now meeting. You can do so much w/ Mornovarion’s “flashback”. You can even shed a light to the strange “hooded figures”, the going ons down south of Mirkwood, etc.
Actually, I had hoped earlier on in the RPG that another would do the leading. Now we are all writing as the story goes based on what each one of our fellow RPGer has written. (I said my group was going to Dol Goldur because it was what Legolas/Gilthalion had hinted.)
But it makes the story suspenseful doesn’t it? Not one of us knows where the story is leading to.
But I believe once Boss Gilthalion comes in, he may spring a few suprises to keep us on our toes! I wish Micanar would post, too. I don’t know if and when Micanar and Rudhchamion should come face to face if they will be battling. Which one will “survive”?
Now, on to posting!

Thalion, the chatters said I missed you with ten minutes! grrrr.... Then I didn't have time to hit you in the head with a frying pan.. smilies/tongue.gif
Ok, anyway, we are back in the castle, me, Amaryllis and Sauche. I don't know where Sauche is, though.. I just know the fact that I've been scolded by the kitchenmaster and that my dress is ruined! It wasn't a very nice dress though, so do not worry.. In the hurry, I suddenly realised Gaya might have a little bit of a temper, though.. as long as it is people on the same heriachal level as herself..
Gayahithwen is holding a frying pan and looking carefully at a certain point on Thalions head
Be careful if I'd ever advance in the hierarchy, though.. i might become dangerous then!

Well, that just really makes me feel better. But you would definitely survive the battle! You see, Rûdhchamion has a wolf and Anarya to help! Hehe. (And yes, you should get your brain examined!)

Ho hum... still waiting for Gilthalion to get here so we have a slightly more clear sense.

Okay, so how exactly are these seemingly separate side-stories are supposed to end up flowing smoothly into one another?

GreatWarg,
actually the doc wouldn’t believe me! Imagine that!
Anyway, IF (I said if) a battle should ensue between the mortal and elf, Rûdhchamion would want Anarya out of harm’s way and you w/ her! But it is a thought… any suggestions? Hey, you aren't in this for a free ride, pup! (j/k...hahahahaha) smilies/biggrin.gif
Anarya
Okay… I’m going to leave my post like that at our RPG because I have to think of where we are heading to. Besides, the dark elf has got to get his thoughts straight if he goes to Dol Goldur or not. Plus I got to find out what other nasties are allowed – are there Olog hai (smart trolls) there, or giants? What about the wolfriders? What of the dark shadow?
Maybe you have any suggestions?
Oh, and please forgive the dark elf if he does keep his feeling hidden for know... all those problems troubling him!
Gaya,
I was waiting for you! …but now that you mentioned the pan, perhaps I was lucky I missed you! LOL smilies/tongue.gif
Regarding how the story will all connect - it will all come together! Trust Gilthalion on that! smilies/biggrin.gif
And where are we going? To where our destiny (or in this case story), will lead us!
Hey Gaya, Sauche ang Amaryllis should be a good trio... wonder what kind of trouble you 3 ladies will stumble into?
Hmmm, what about the hobbit and dwarves???
Tinuiel, Mornovarion?

Howdy folks! I'm finally back. Please see my post in the general BARROW DOWNS forum for the gory details. The last few weeks have been just impossible, including the temporary loss of my ISP.
I promise to catch up over the weekend and to try to bring things together, if I may.
Thank you all so much for continuing, and I really look forward to seeing what you've done while I've been unavoidably detained.

Welcome back, Gil! We've missed you. smilies/smile.gif Hope you like what we've cooked up!
All-- Should we do someconferring on the hooded figures? That way no one person will be responsible for such a big plot twist. Or maybe Gil has some ideas. I really want to post about them, but I'm afraid I'll make up something totally absurd and you'll all wonder what the heck I was thinking.
Keep up the posts! This is one exciting story! I like how it's divided up. Reminds me of the way TTT and RotK were split up. smilies/biggrin.gif

Welcome back, Gilthalion!!!
Are we so glad to see you back with us Boss! Hope you can now shed some light to what THE QUEST really is of the story... basically we have all just tried to keep the story going, our post dependent on the previous post of our fellow RPGer.
Hope it won’t give you too much of a headache... and we hope we haven’t strayed from the main plot!

ALL,
When I posted the “hooded figures” that Rûdhchamion and Anarya fought w/, I took into account of something I read that was around the period of Middle Earth we are in. This was when a Dark Shadow (some say it was the Necromancer, some say the leader of the Nazgul) was in Dol Goldur and he kept sending all those minions of his - Torogs (trolls), Orog-Hai (smart(?) trolls who can resist sunlight), draugs/wolves, spiders, orcs... alot of them nasty beasties! (sheeez, thank Eru there weren’t any Balrogs in Mirkwood!)
So what do you guys think we can create w/ what we’ve got? Personally, I’d like to first hear from Gil about it... then work from there!
Tinuiel,
actually, you and Mornovarion are doing pretty well!
hmmmm, I'm thinking of editing that last post... oh, heck... I'll sleep on it and come in tomorrow! Maybe Gilthalion will have something by then! hehehehe

Is Rûdhchamion just like the Elf link of Frodo, or what? Then, Master Elrond, you will have to lock me in prison, or send me home tied in a sack. For otherwise I shall follow the Company. Sounds familiar... smilies/wink.gif
Anarya
So, how do we convince Rûdhchamion to take us along? Or should we just follow in on our own accord.
And about the strange, hooded things: I guess I'll put in some of my own input... I'll post what I have in mind here first to see if you all approve.

I can CLEARLY see the similarity between Frodo and Rüdchamion! lol! A great burden (the ring/rûdchamions past) to bear, a great friend (sam/anarya) and a wanting to rush away into dark, dangrous places by themselves! though I don't remember anything like Khelek when there was Frodo and Sa.. wait a second.. we allways have GOLLUM there, doesn't we?? j/k, GreatWarg! smilies/smile.gif
Ok, this is going great, Amaryllis.. Do you think we'll run into Sauche before or after we've gotten our dresses? And btw.. Gayahithwen won't get a splendid dress.. She is a kitchen elf! But you'll probably get a real great one!

Gaya: I was just trying to add some little bits of you trying to comfort me. I think I have a way to bring the guy back. There has to be a reason she didn't go into complete deathlike state. Thing is I can make it so he was just put under a spell and the people didn't bring the body back becasue orcs were attacking and when they went back to find him, his body was gone. I came up with a whole plan to go out looking for his body in the woods and i find a whole dark necromancer or whatever. The guy that I made Arloss from helped me too. He was thinking that he was put under a spell that he is a slave until the spell is broken by my kiss. Anyways. I may not be posting for a while becasue I am going to a two week writers camp. I'll post when I can.

I agree with LúthienTinúviel. But that brings me back to myself. I see that you all want me to come up with twist of some answers on some of the plot mysteries, but I am a little nervous to write anything too bold. I do not want to mess up this story. Do any of you have suggestions or ideas that I can work off of without messing things up?

06-15-2002, 11:13 PM
Frodo and Rudhchamion??? I haven’t really thought of that! Cool!! smilies/rolleyes.gif
My friend mentioned it once, but when Khelek came in, she said it was beginning to be like Beren and Luthien. I pointed out Khelek was a WOLF and Huan was a hunting hound and that they wanted to get a silmaril, Rudh just wants to get the killers of his kin, Anarya just “tagged” along, since he (Rudh) got entangled w/ Thranduil's realm. (She was reading the Lay of Beleriand where Beren & Luthien’s story!) smilies/redface.gif I won’t write the rest of the tiring details of the debate… it lasted a whole night! Sheeez smilies/rolleyes.gif
Er, Boss Gilthalion, please don’t get any ideas about that… because if my memory serves me right, Beren died in battle. Rudhchamion would like to live a few centuries longer!
Amaryllis, great idea! What does Gaya and Sauche say to this?
Myla Took, since you haven’t really met us yet, you can jump in where you left off. How about you finding the elf girl (the one who was attacked by the draugs)? smilies/biggrin.gif

Thalion, Amaryllis --> I am not quite sure what Gayahithwen says about this.. Somehow I think it is a bit to much.. Can't Arloos just have been kidnapped by those hooded figures? Just to bind all loose ends together a bit.. Thats just my thought, though... LoL, btw.. what could possibly the most beautiful non-royal elven maid, an elven shieldmaiden and a daydreaming kitchenelf have in common?
Thalion, I think you could make an EXCELLENT Beren smilies/tongue.gif !! LoL.. at least, you can die in battle.. j/k - I am feeling hyper today..
LúthienTinúviel
06-16-2002, 01:19 PM
Well, I do not wish Thalion to die, personally. And as *cough* I *cough* have a Beren..I think Thalion should be free to just be Rudhchamion.
He he he. Sorry. I am more than a little too much into the character of Luthien. I actually answer to her name...and people call me by her name... smilies/rolleyes.gif Scary, huh?
But in all seriousness, Rudhchamion is a great character, and though he may exhibit characteristics of Frodo and Beren, I definitely think he is his own character in his own right. Keep it up, Thalion! I love Rudhchamion. Very complex and interesting character. smilies/biggrin.gif
So...perhaps when we hear back from the boss we can make some descisions about them hooded figures, eh?

Anarya and I don't mean for you to be like Beren and DIE! I didn't mean to sound like Huan, but I don't talk three times and die, or else I would've already died!
Boss Gil
Does Rud have to go to Dol Goldur, or were you just half-asleep when you wrote that?
Anarya
Okay, Rud doesn't go alone. But maybe if we could add in a little something more about the hooded figures or something out of lines...
Thalionyulma
06-16-2002, 10:22 PM
Rudhchamion is quite relieved people do not want him to die! smilies/biggrin.gif
GreatWarg & Anarya,
actually, Gilthalion didn't say the dark elf was to go TO Dol Goldur. He (Legolas) mentioned that the mortal (Micanar) was heading south where no settlements of man, and further on was Dol Goldur. Since there have been no input FROM Micanar, I just kept posting our way there.
(and as I said before, since our time line was about that time after Smaug died but before the time of Frodo and Company, it was then when mysterious going ons were happening at Dol Glodur. Hence, its what I am playing on with. I was counting on Gilthalion to either re-direct us, or if we are on the right path, add something else to the story.)
Gaya, Sauche and Amaryliis,
a suggestion ladies, perhaps whatever you get yourselves into could somehow "connect" w/ the rest of the story. Gaya's suggestion is good too! smilies/wink.gif
Myla Took,
what you have in mind sounds very interesting! PLease post more right away! smilies/biggrin.gif
ALL
I am going to be posting less than before. School in my part of the world has begun. Perhaps only 2 to 3 times a week. smilies/frown.gif
Anyway, w/ Boss Gil back, I'm sure the story will get pretty interesting... specially when he starts to connect it all. And w/ a bunch of talented RPGers/storytellers/writers, I just know the story is REALLY going to get better and better!! smilies/biggrin.gif
Besides, Rudhchamion's got a pretty elf maiden to "protect him and a brave guard-wolf to boot! hehehe

Anarya,
Have I ever commended you for your writing talent? smilies/biggrin.gif Well, what the rest don't know is that, the reason Rûdhchamion gets to be interesting is because I got a great partner in writing the "adventure/s" the dark elf and a young elf maiden (and pup!) get themselves into. smilies/biggrin.gif

What do you two want to do? shall we continue to the Necromancer's Hill?
Oh, ummm… could you please rescue Rûdhchamion from those evil plants!

Anarya,
but don’t those “encounters” make it more fun? I’m sure the elf maiden can handle the wolf-rider, so I left him (it? And several orcs) to you! smilies/wink.gif

Phew! At least now I have a sword… we need more weapons (as we can carry w/out hindering us)… and arrows…
Alright then! Off to Dol Goldur we go!! smilies/biggrin.gif
I’m not sure if at this point we should dwell on the Nazguls. At this point in time, they would be scouring Anduin, near where Isildur had lost it. (By the info Gilthalion left us, I think) They would be searching for Gollum (um, Bilbo’s Gollum!) and Baggins… what are your thoughts on this? I’ll go with whatever both of you decide.

Hey all. I've been away for a week. Sorry about the lackage of posting. Many exciting things have been happening in Mirkwood, I am happy to say. Strange things are going down in dream land too. Or nightmare land I should say. smilies/frown.gif Well, I've forced things to a climax with the hooded figures. Maybe we can start figuring this out now.
Hey Gil--if you're around...can you give us maybe a time estimate for when we get our orders so we can all wrap up our side plots and come together again?
Gayahithwen
06-23-2002, 03:45 AM
Khelek.. well, if just my dear friends post soon, we might decide wheter or not we are to be captured.. And if we are.. who will be better to free us then the three of you??
I got an idea this night.. What if we girls meet someone who betray us to the orcs? When I woke up this morning, it was thundering, so I couldn't get on the computer... therefore, I had LOADS of time thinking. I came up with this character:
Daegon (prounounced dai-gon)
dae - shadow
gon (káno) - commander
Short, for being an elf, but strong. He has got brown hair, green eyes and is almost allways wearing clothes easy to hide in, like brown, grey or dark green cloaks.
He is rather good at fighting with most weapons.
Commander for a small group of guards. From time to time, he abandons them to stroll out on his own, seeking adventure. He is faithful to his friends and would never abandon them in battle.
He has a younger sister, Elenloth, who is him dearer then anyone. They live at the very edge of Mirkwood.
Now, Elenloth have been captured by some orcs scourging the edge of Mirkwood. Furious about it, Daegon found them and made a deal with them - at least two other elves for Elenloth. Even though he really is a good elf, he will do anything to free his sister - even if he has to cheat and lie to his friends.
Ok, what do you think? I made him a good guy, who is forced to do evil.. for the love of his sister... eventually, I will kill him at the same time as he betrays our friends and frees his sister.. or something.. ok..? tell me what you think! I can (probably) take critisism.. Please.. some response?? I know you guys are some weeks away, but you have been attacked quite often, right? And resting when you need it.. Well, orcs don't like elves that much, so they would probably not consider us being tired and stuff.. right? well, anyway.. It is just an idea.. to get the loose ends together, you know smilies/tongue.gif smilies/biggrin.gif .. I am just thinkin.. If you don't like the idea, please let me know!

I like how you described the scents of battle. And Thalion, your fighting squences are soo good. I mean really, I've never read something that made killing your mortal enemy sound so vengeful but regretful at the same time. Mornovarion--Ou est tu? Where are you? I don't want to totally mess up whatever plans you may have for your character, but we have to get this moving.
Ok...as for stories meshing...
Maybe not in space, but in subject matter, I think that Anarya, Thalion and GW's sideplot can meld with Morno\Tinuiel's insofar as both plots can be oriented towards discovering the identity of the hooded figures. My thought was that since Tinuiel has just tackled them directly, perhaps you guys can have at them through possibly an ally of theirs, or their master (you are going to Dol Guldor...) or some other indirect means. Perhaps you can discover something immensely important, and that would bring you rushing back to Thranduil (perhaps pick up 3 elf girls en route?) and then you guys could combine your info with Morno\Tinuiel's info, and then after a happy info fest, perhaps Gil will send us on our mission...
Problem is...I'm stuck in dreamland with Morno until Gil comes back 'cause Tinuiel has to report everything to Lego... But I could borrow Lego for a while if Gil doesn't mind...
So...what do you guys think? I'm not sure anything I've said has been coherent...but if it has, let's start the plotting party! smilies/biggrin.gif

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted for a while.
I have had problems with my internet.
I thought I could make the hooded figures, Elves!
Yes ELVES!
It is said that orcs were originally corrupted elves. So why wouldn't Sauron try to create a new breed of orcs from elves that his servants had captured.Hmmmmmm, I can't post again till I hear your views. So please hurry!
Great Story So Far!
If you can give me your views I'll post and let Tinuiel get off to her own devices.
Sorry again!

Ok... to suicidal elf chick --> if you want to get into the rpg, you should post here first.. and just a note: Daegon was certainly not sitting by a fire! He was hiding, and a fire is seen far away!
You others, could I please have some comment from someone of you about Daegon?!? pleeeaaasee?

I'm totally fine with Daegon, but it really doesn't affect my story. Maybe others would be better to comment...

WHO is suicidal elf chick?! I think it's kind of late in the story, and it seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the side-stories. She's simply creating her own side-story! I don't know what she's planning to do, but it sure is something suicidal!

You know, no offense to Suicidal Elf Chick, But I don't known any possible way she could fit into the story now with that character. Maybe we should copy the post, delete it, than post on discussion incase she still wants it like what Gil used to do.

the only thing is - we can't delete it.. Well, at least we can ignore her, as she appearantly doesn't read the discussion board.. she just got here, posted something totally new that didn't fit into the history at all and left.. it seems like that to me anyway.. oh..
well, I better write something more.. I hate when it's not being weekend, because the RPG's goes so slow then.. smilies/tongue.gif

Well, I'm going camping, so I'm not going to be on very often for the next few days. I got my laptop luckily (thank Elbereth for technology!) so I'll be popping in and out, but no chat for me. smilies/frown.gif It uses Netscape, and the chat room utterly rejects it. smilies/frown.gif But in any case, I'll be on for a bit to at least keep up on the RPG!

Anarya and GreatWarg,
sorry for my absence. I’ve been rather busy w/ school starting, and me job-hunting (ahh, the realities of life!)
Thanks for your compliments!
Well, we’re off then!
Gaya, Sauche & Amaryllis,
all your ideas are good. About Daegon, well, I don’t know about Boss Gil, but how can you explain him being in Mirkwood? He isn’t a dark elf too is he? Would he be similar to Mornovarion? (too many coincidences)
Just make sure he won’t complicate the main plot…. Too many subplots is like having too many ingredients for a recipe. It can come out pretty good… or pretty darn confusing to the palate.
But go ahead… as you say, we do have the edit/delete option. And Gil gets the final say.
Um, who is suicidal elf chick?

Hello,
I won't be able to post for about two weeks as I am going on holiday. I couldn't post anyway until you give me your views on the hooded figures being elves. This will affect you all, so give me your views!
