Why do you think they makers of LotR left out Narsil from its importance in the book. I first noticed it missing when Aragorn draws out a full sword when Sam threatens him in Bree. (And yet they may have given him that to drive off the Ringwraiths at Weathertop) But what I don't understand is that they show the shards in the movie, but they don't reforge it. So it's not like they left the sword out of it all together. Isn't the sword vitally important to Aragorn and his being Elendil's heir? Why do you think they left it out?<p>[ December 28, 2001: Message edited by: Son of Gondor ]

I have this nagging suspicion that its being forged right now and Arwen will turn up at Helms Deep in the next film and present it to him.

My nagging suspicion was yours as well?<BR>Hmm, sounds like Arwen and Aragorn are already married, she's gotta go deliver to him the stuff he walked out the door with while going to work.

I really hope this isn't true, but it looks like you guys may be right, check out the second question in this article, I don't think she's going to be sitting home waiting after all: <A HREF="http://www.suntimes.com/output/show/cst-ftr-tyler28.html" TARGET=_blank>http://www.suntimes.com/output/show/cst-ftr-tyler28.html</A><p>[ December 29, 2001: Message edited by: Elrian ]

In the books, Arwen's brother deliver a banner to Aragorn, so it's not so (totally) unbelievable that Arwen could accompany them carrying Anduril. But the Grey Company arrived after the battle of Helm's Deep, so Peter Jackson would have to seriously skew the timeline if he wants to inject her into the battle there. If she does arrive in the proper timeframe, that means she would accompany Aragorn through the Paths of the Dead and arrive late at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields... too late to slay the Witch King as some have suggested. But I'll guess we'll have to wait and see.<P>Either way, though Strider carried the shards of Narsil with him, he must have had some other weapon with him. You don't become a great warrior practicing with half a sword.

Looks like there may not be a grey company meeting Aragorn after the Battle of Helms Deep. I Doubt the Brethren will be in the movie either Or Halbarad.

Isn’t it the reforged Narsil Aragorn uses after he leaves Rivendell? I thought it was, it looks like it, but of course I could be wrong. If anyone go see the movie again, compare the shards shown at Rivendell to the sword Aragorn carries (best shown in a close up on the sword when Boromir picks up the Ring at Caradhras).

I assumed he was carrying Anduril when they left Rivendell, just because it's in the books. But they never mentioned it, and since the movie emphasizes Narsil it must be coming later. *ouch* You don't think Arwen will join the Grey Company, with Narsil and the banner, and fight at Helm's Deep?<P>-Maril

Cirion, I saw the movie again last night, and had a good look at the sword in the scene on Caradhras - and it looked like a different one. The hilt of Narsil seemed a bit longer. So maybe they will bring him Anduril later on ...

No, he didn't have Narsil after Rivendell, The hilt end of Narsil had a flat ornament with and opening in it, the sword he carried had a ball type ornament on the end. Maybe Arwen will reforge Narsil herself, if she can make a flood she can reforge a sword! <P> <p>[ January 04, 2002: Message edited by: Elrian ]

She'll reforge Narsil, sew the banner, bring tidings from the lady Galadriel, bring the banner herself, slay the steed of the Nazgul over the river, ride with the Grey Company, talk Treebeard into sending the Huorns, salvage Merry and Pippin from the flood of Isengard, lead the charge with Erkenbrand into Helm's Deep, and then shoot an Oliphaunt in Ithilien before she treads the Paths of the Dead - "I can bring home the Bacon!" da-dah -da-duh. "Fry it up in a pan.."<P>-Maril

I thought that he was given it because you do see Narsil and doesn't Bilbo say something like "I forgot to get your sword reforged with the others so here have my old swprd Sting" That may be wrong though. And also I could swear that Boromir kissed his Sword when he was dying and swore that he would of served Aragorn as the King (or something like that). His sword was definately different and the hilt looked like that of Narsil's when you see it in Imladris (Rivendell).

Boromirs sword had a bigger ball type ornament on the end of it than Aragorns did. Narsil never left Rivendell in the film. Bilbo never said anything about reforging swords, he did give Sting to Frodo.
