Hullo! I am wondering if anyone else is planing as going to the opening show of TTT as a character or species?? I am planing on going as a Hobbit Lass. (I already have a costume that I found!) Are any of you going dressed up??

I dress like something out of Middle-Earth all the time!! heheheh...and i have seen FOTR dressed up in this my usual garb - flat boots, v.long floaty skirt(s) and one of the many peasant blouses i own...and I got a few looks from folk in the cinema lol - "eh?" Mind you, i might dress up extra-special for TTT can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!

I saw "Harry Potter..." on it's opening day and that was enough for me. I don't know if I wanna risk seeing TTT on opening day; I might get hurt! I didn't even try to see FotR on it's opening day...<P>Where'd you find the costume, Mayla? Or did you make it? Will you have the oh-so-awesome furry feet, too? I love the furry feet; my Mom thinks it's nasty but I love them! Imagine how much fun it would be to try and tickle a Hobbit's feet! (It probably isn't possible, though.)

Well, my costume is made after Irish dresses (not anything like kilts). It has a white blouse and a green/blue patterened skirt and a black corsett type thing with silver lining. It was origanaly made for me because of a international festivel I was going to be in but wasn't. It doesn't look hard to make. But it looks JUST like a Hobbit dress! I am still working on the feet and the ears! They don't look TOO hard to make or find. Have you seen any? Anyway, I live in a very small town, so the opening day of FOTR there were only about 20 people at our little theater! It was amazing! I got to the theater 40 min early so I would get a ticket (I was sure it was going to be packed)! I hpe it will be the same way this year!

I'm going to try and get my parents to get me to a midnight showing of TTT. If I con get to one of those I will definatly dress up. I just thought of somthing. I'm gonna dress my little brother up in a Gollum costume, put him on a leash and bring him to the movie like that. But I'm not sure who I'd dress up as. A hobbit would be cool! But what do hobbits wear?(other than no shoes.)<p>[ February 03, 2002: Message edited by: Rose Cotton ]

well if i can get to a midnight showing w/some of my friends who *might* dress up w/me then i'll do it! but the possibilities of me getting to a midnight showing are pretty slim...so i think i might just go as myself during the day sometime. i really don't care what other people would say but i think i'd be more comfy anyway in human clothes

Heh, you could come with me Elvenglass! I seriously doubt that any of my friends would dress up and I'm pretty positive that I can't afford to make or purchase any sort of costuming. Now, if it was "Jurassic Park 4" I know I could get my best friend to come and dress up and I'd just borrow one of her costumes too! (Ah, I love those films! They're the only ones, except for "The Lost World", that are better than LotR.)<P>Of course, all this talking about dressing up just makes me want to do it. Any chance to dress differently is a chance I usually grab!

I screened (actually iron-on transfered) long sleeve t-shirts for myself and a friend for tFotR (Xmas gift). Understated and goes with jeans.<P>I made hers in green & gold on white. "A Elbereth Gilthonial" poem with English translation and Tengwar script version, bordered in green & gold leaves on the front. "Frodo Lives!" and "Cuio i Pheriain anann!" on the sleeves. (All info found here on the Downs.)<P>Mine is white & grey on black. The livery of the Guard of the Citadel on the front. "Lord Aragorn" in faded indigo & grey and "Elessar, the Elfstone" in green & grey on the sleeves.<P>Easy to do. Buy an inexpensive t-shirt (cotton or cotton-poly). Transfer works best on jersey, but I did mine on rib - not greatest for fine detail but OK. Buy Avery or Xerox iron-on transfer kits from office supply or computer supply store - next to the printable label stock or art supplies. They have kits for white/light colours and for dark/black fabrics. Design something on your computer or scan one of your drawings and you're ready to go.<P>Read and follow the directions. Note that a formica surface is required - process builds a lot of heat. (A 1950's or 60's dinette table is perfect.) Or get a sample or scrap piece of countertop from a kitchen renovation company. Depending on the transfer kit, you MAY need to print the design mirrored for lettering. (CTRL P > Print dialogue box > Printer - Properties button > Paper TAB > Paper Type - select Iron-on Transfer) <P>TEST! TEST! TEST! It's worth the money to "waste" a sheet or two testing on scrap fabric for iron temperature and times, as well as ink colour.<P>Give it a try! Have fun!

Greets,<P>Another site does these things called 'Line Parties.' I got into FoTR on the evening of the 18th for a 'special screening by fan demand' (it opened here in Canada on the 19th) that was only announced in the newspaper that day. Apparently, not a whole lot of people read newspapers these days, so I'd say that the theatre was around 20% empty. I went and bought my ticket 4 hours in advance, went home, rolled some Longbottom Leaf, and paced my apartment for 2 hours before I went back to the theatre. I ended up being in the theatre an hour in advance! And the place was 20% empty. Oh well, better safe than sorry! No one was dressed up. There was no line party in my city, although there was one in Montreal. I am not far from Montreal, so possibly I will go there to see the TTT. If I dress up, it will be as Gandalf the White. Otherwise, I will be going as a geek.<BR>

I just discovered this thread, and many people are asking where they can get this or that item. In partnership with the Barrow-Wight himself, we are setting up a new Barrow Downs store, Barrow Treasures. When the store is ready, we'll give you the URL (it may take awhile -- the store software is very good, but very complex to set up properly). In the meantime, if you want or need something, shoot an email to <A HREF="mailto:thenamir@barrowdowns.com">thenamir@barrowdowns.com</A> and I will give you the price and availability info you need.<P>The sword of the Witch King is 54" long, exact replica of the one in the movie, retails for $348, I sell them for $189.<P>THe One Ring comes in many different price ranges. The most impressive one is the solid 10K gold ring, laser-engraved with the famous inscription, in a small display case for $350. Also, there is a sterling silver ring plated with 24K gold, also laser-engraved, comes with case and chain for $175. Then there are the gold-plated brass models (size 7 only) that you can get for around $30.<P>I don't carry costumes unfortunately (unless they are being manufactured for Halloween, and I have not heard of them yet...) but for the FOTR opening night I created and wore a Gandalf costume, complete with long grey hair and beard. It turned out that it was not as close to the movie costume as I would have liked, but it was well received. On the night of the premiere midnight show, many of us gathered at the theatre about 4 hours ahead, about 1 in 20 was in costume. Exceeding the manager's expectations that we would not fill one theatre, he had to open two more theatres in the 30-plex to handle the overflow! It was an awesome night.

No soft flowy dresses me though; I'm going as a traveler. I already have a leather jerkin, and the fabric to make a cloak and tunic. All that's left is pants, shoes, and wrist cuffs. Hm, well the picture that I posted (I think on the first page) included a Galadriel-ish dress. The one with the cowl-neck (it's also the one that I'm wearing) is similar to the dress she was wearing either during the mirror scene or the farewell to Lorien scene (I can't remember which).

me? not dress up? that would be unthinkable! unheard of! lol! I dressed up as Galadriel for FOTR and I plan to continue that tradition. Though it still somewhat puzzles me HOW they were able to squish her into TTT, i saw the trailor, and she is, indeed, on the next movie. this time I'll be more prepared... next time i go to the fabric store I plan on buyin lots of white /white lacy stuff to make a complete costume.

Nevfeniel, I love that head piece. Did you make that or did you buy it. I am looking to make one for Amber (my cousin) and myself.<P>I just need some ideas for the circlet. Her dress is going to be green or either red and mine is either light blue or a dark royal blue. I do know that my cape is royal blue velet, I have already purchased the material. So I am thinking that a silver circlet would look best for my outfits. BTW, my cape is going to have silver rope-like edging. <P>If she has the green dress, then I will make a green cape with silver edging, but if it is the red dress, I am making a black cape with gold edging.

I don't think I'll dress up for TTT, but I am planning to go to my Halloween dance as an elf. Does anyone know where I can buy fake ears that are not too expensive?

^<BR>|<BR>|<P>There should be a link somewhere up there. And since you're going to the Halloween Dance as an elf, why not just take your costume and wear it on premiere night? Who knows; maybe they'll take pictures !

I made my headpiece, Joy. I can get you a link to the page that showed me how to make it if you want. It's really easy, but you would probably need a wire jig ( a piece of plastic with little holes in it that you stick plastic pegs in, you can get them at most craft stores), but if you make any wire jewelry, use either 24 or 26 guage wire, anything less will be too soft and stretch a whole lot, and anything more would be pretty hard to use. Hope I helped.

Yes, please pass the link along Nefeniel! I also need that for the broach. I have been looking at different gauges of metal wire, but not sure what kind to purchase.<P>Oh, BTW, if anyone is making a dwarf costume and need a mail coat, but don't want to go to the trouble of doing the chain links, try silver fiberglass "instect" window screening. This can be found at any hardware store. I have found that between Lowes and Home Depot, HD has it cheaper. It looks pretty good and can be worked with fairly easily.

Here's the <A HREF="http://jewelrymaking.tqn.com/library/weekly/aa101800.htm" TARGET=_blank>link</A>. It also has instructions on how to make a wire jig, if you don't want to buy one (I found it simpler to just buy one, though). <p>[ June 11, 2002: Message edited by: Nevfeniel ]

I want to go as well a tree. But considering I'm the first magical tree in Middle Earth it doesn't seem that weird. Plus with the Ents and all.

But how will you sit down? Trees are not very, <I>hoom</I> bendable. And what if you need to go to the loo?<BR>

I don't think I'll be there on premiere night. Don't forget that TTT premieres on a Wednesday and we'll still have school. It sucks, but I guess I'll have to wait until that Friday or Saturday.

I would have liked to have dressed up but I don't have a costume.<P>I wish they had really elaborate ones that you could buy, ones that are basicly exactly like the costumes the characters wear. That would be cool and I'd probably buy one for sure. ^_^ It'd probably be really expensive...but I'm sure it'd be worth it and since I'm finished growing, it would probably forever fit me.
