I was looking at Tolkien Online and I found this bit about the next movie:

quote:
The Grey Havens, where all the Ringbearers finally leave Middle-earth, will have an architecture a bit similar to that of Rivendell and Lothlorien. Says Alan Lee (conceptual designer): “However, the architecture is adjusted to buildings of stone, unlike the wooden buildings of Rivendell.”

I know people were worried whether this part of the story would remain in the movie and this appears to confirm that the Grey Havens will be in RotK.
YAY!!
If you want to see what else there is here is the link:
http://www.tolkienonline.com/docs/8620.html

That was one thing I never understood, why did people doubt that the Grey Havens would be in the ROTK. That is one of the most touching and beautiful parts of the book, and additionally it is one part of the story that will translate beautifully to film. It is part of the main storyline that the filmakers decided they would tell (you know Frodo getting the ring to Mordor and everything). The reason that the scouring is gone is because they thought that it was not part of the main storyline and would take too much time to tell, basically the main reason old Tom B. got the boot too.

quote:
But there won't be any scouring of the shire

How do yall find this stuff out?
I'm surprised about that one since there seemed to be a clip of it when Frodo looked into Galadriel's mirror in FotR.

To Gorwingel:
I feal tha same thing as you do, but one can never trust films, they always pick things out that can feal too big for the audience. they may think "frodo should not go away, we want him to live happily ever after in the shire".
I dont know, its just a guess.

quote:
I'm surprised about that one since there seemed to be a clip of it when Frodo looked into Galadriel's mirror in FotR

I thought that as well. But Galadriel clearly stated that if Frodo fails (and he didnt) the quest of the ring, the images in the mirror will occur in the mere future.
So i believed otherwise when people told me that the 'Scouring of the Shire' was not to be included in the film.

The Grey Havens finish the book. It would be unforgiveable if they were not in the films. I never even considered that they wouldn't be there.

In the audio commentary of the special edition FotR, Peter Jackson says there will be no scoring of the Shire. That's as good a source as you are going to get.
I agree with others that say they would have been shocked if there was no Grey Havens. I strongly suspect that was always their intention for the ending. It's too powerful to drop. It's either that or end at the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen, have everyone face the camera for a group shot and then start the Star Wars theme.
H.C.

I can imagine that angry mob. I'd be there, atempting to be peaceful, holding a sign that reads:
"We want Elves! Not Jedi!"
Ten minutes later I'd be run over by the rest of the mob.
