Do you find yourself qouting LOTR like when someone says, "I can't do that" you say, "there are few who can". Or when someone does something really dumb you immitate gollum's voice and say, "stupid fat hobbit!" I do it a lot. Its supper fun to just have a spurr of the moment thing like that.

HEHEHE!! Yup, I do too! There was this time when I was in a department store and my younger brothers found these stuffed reindeer that would wagg their tales and antlers and sing a jazzed up christmas carol. My brothers started several of those going so I got behind a clothes rack waiting for them to finish. When I finally emerged, my brothers had found a snowman that did the same thing and they came running up to me with it going "Look what we found!" So I replied "What is this new devilry?" Some customers standing nearby gave me the wierdest stares. I still laugh when I think about their expressions!

*lol*
Yes I admit I do the same.
I foolishly got into a debate with one of my professors about the death penalty and why it should not be used. One of my arguments was "Some that live deserve death, and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Therefore I don't think we should be eager to deal out death in judgement because no one is 100% for sure that they are guilty"
I voiced my own wording towards the end (it would have been too wierd if I didn't!)
I also quoted Gimli when my mom was going through a dark time. "Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens." Powerful quote Gimli...

lol
One day my friend took my pencil that I had found on the floor and when I asked for it back, she wouldn't give it back. So I said, "It's mine, I found it, it came to me!" and everybody looked at me funny . I always seem to be saying little things from the movies without even thinking about it.

I've done this many, many times (also X-Men and Goldeneye, so this isn't just a LotR thing). I was at Wal*Mart with my mother and father and all three of us got separated. I found my mom at the electronics section and said in my best Boromir voice, "None of us should wander alone." Boy... I still shiver at the memory of the glare she gave me.
I've used "If you want [it], come and claim [it]!" many times as well as "What is this new devilry?", "If it is the will of the [parent] then Gondor will see it done" and "By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe!" (only during video games, though). Another favorite that isn't a movie or book quote is "By Gondor" or "For Gondor" or "In the name of Gondor" and many other variations. But, as I said, I also quote X-Men and Goldeneye and various other movies in my everyday life.

LOL!! I quote LOTR only too often. And recently, I've been quoting BDer's sigs. A couple of hours ago, when I was at school, I shouted, for absolutely no reason what so ever, "Spook the spookish spookdom to spook the spooked spookers!!!" Everyone was giving me these weird looks. It's really hard to understand Rynoah's sig. So I had to break it down for them. I also like to quote Helka's, Skippy's, Gorwingel's, Diamond's, and I REALLY like eleanor_niphredil's sig. But here are my favorites (that I can think of right now):
Shy Hobbit
Make Middle-Earth a friendlier place, hug a balrog today!
I like Horse-maiden's new one:
Horse-Maiden of the Shire
If you don't name your sword, how is it supposed to come when you call it?
Sapphire_Flame
I'm not anti-society, society is anti-me.
Brinniel
"The problem with reality is the lack of background music."
-Anonymous
And this has definately got to be my favorite:
Rosseiliantiel
Whatever floats your oyster.
I have tons more, I just can't think of them at the moment (and I don't have enough room to put them all!).

I just realized how completely off topic this was...
[ March 17, 2003: Message edited by: Eressië Ailin ]

I do this type of things every day, but I'll post a few:
I ran up and down the blacktop outside my school, when a car was coming, yelling: "I think we should get off the road...get off the road! Quick!"
I break out quoting the intro from FotR...I know all of it by heart. I think my parents will be quoting it soon!
I saw some birds and chased after them for no apparent reason. (Don't ask.) Then, upon seeing that they didn't movie, I said, rather loudly, "Fly, you fools!" I think I saw a pigeon giving me a strange look...
Yes, I say "stupid, fat, hobbit, very often"
When I saw my mom cooking I popped off suddenly with "Po-ta-toes...."
My teachers and friends all know of my LotR obsession/addiction, so once when I didn't hand in my homework, my teacher says "If you do not hand it in tomotrrow, I will now destroy the Ring", which was kinda lame... but, though I meant to oonly say "sure..." I went through with "Alright! I will do it! Though I do not know the way...." which got me a weird (er) rep....lol, no, everybody forgot about it right away, but the people who hadn't seen LotR looked like they were wondering about something....
I do this type of things all the time, and am glad to know that it's not only me, so I will probably post more later...
Edit: I just ran down the hall, crashed into my dad, and yelled something or other, I can't even remember what now, from LotR, and ran back here. He, all this is really funny, um I have a couple.
One day in spanish class the guy sitting behide me kept asking me all the answers to the worksheet we were doing. I got really fed up so I turn to him and said, "Mustn't ask us, not its buisness" full with the gollem coughing and all. The look on his face almost made me fall out of my chair. Then my friend joined in, saying to the guy," You were not so differnt from a hobbit once, were you, Smeagol?" It was hilerious .
Then in gym once, we were having a "fun run" (those two words should NEVER be used in the same sentance) and my friend and I ended trying to recrite Treebeards lines. When the coach told us to speed up we both muttered,"Now, let's not be hasty"

My family is fast wearing out the "My prrrreecciouss" and second breakfast quotes. The other day, we were at a resturaunt and I tried to give some coleslaw to my nephew (he hates coleslaw), and he was like, "No, NO! Hey Mornie! Nice Topic
Although my friends marvel that I quote LOTR all the time, one of the best examples comes from a basketball game. I grabbed a rebound and one girl from the other team said, "here, pass!" I looked at her and said, "Oh no! It's mine! It came to me! It's my own, my love, my preciousss!" One funny example I have is when we went to the Lowell mills (in Massachusetts) they have this brick path there, and every few bricks there's one with a name of a girl or immigrant that worked there and what year they did (all in the 1800's). So I say, "There, there are dead people's names in the sidewalk!" Of course no one heard me. I also ALWAYS call my little brother a fool of a Took, and whenever my mom says "What do you want for supper?" I'll say "Tomatoes, sausages, and nice crispy bacon." And if we have haddock, I'll say "Give us fish rawwww, and wrrrrriggling!"

Ooh I have a good story to go with LOTR quotes. Last week I was on year 9 camp and we were walking down the path in the bush but then we came to this forest and I swear it looked EXACTLY like that bit in FOTR when the hobbits hide under the tree. So anyways we all had to carry our EXTREMELY heavy packs. We all looked like little hobbits! It was so cute. Then my friend shouted out 'Get off the road NOW!' and at that moment I looked back and these leaves were blowing on the track. It was so freaky it was exactly like the movie!! The black riders were the other camp group who were trying to catch up with us.
That went a bit off topic but it was so cool, a had to be there moment I guess

My bedroom is right in the front of the house. It's got double French doors opening on the front hall, and a regular door opening on the back hall. Result? All three brothers use my room as a hallway extension, and the carpet is terribly worn. So they're supposed to stay out, but do they? No! So I get tired of it and I'll nag and pester. My parents don't appreciate that, either. But when I was home last weekend, my middle brother just kept following me around chattering. I wanted to go to bed, so I walked into my room and, as he was preparing to follow me, I shouted (in a quiet voice) "You shall not pass!" - and then locked the doors. My dad told me later he really appreciated that way of keeping him out.
I'm about 5'10", which although not super tall, is taller than most of my female friends. So several times I've found myself saying when they can't see something, "Shall I describe it to you?" Once my friend started laughing so hard that I laughed too, and I could scarcely finish the quote - "Or would you like me to find you a box?"
Of course, there was the time I greeted another Tolkienite in Elvish - "Mae govannen." I was expecting the blank looks from the other friends standing around, but you should have seen the look she gave me!

The machine wouldn't scan properly, and the lines were to long in the 'real' checkout stations, so I said, "Curse you, and all the halflings!" A few bystanders turned around and gave me a strange look, so I decided to watch my mouth more closely! Unfortunalely, not close enough. A few days later I was at the same store, walking down a crowed aisle, when I scrathed my shoulder on the metal corner of a display stand. Once again I HAD to burst out with a quote and said,"Aagh! Still sharp!" a little louder than I meant to. A bunch of people turned around (including one of the people that heard my curse you quote a few days earlier) and gave me interesting looks. I bet I'm considered some sort of a freak that goes around testing the sharpness of display-stand corners now!
I quote LOTR when I am in buses full of giggling girls talking about their boyfriends to stay sane. I also qoute "There are few who can." every once in a while.

We were having a picnic, (my group) and i sent one of the boys over to light the Barbie, but when i went over with the food, he said
"I can get it to go!" so i set down the basket and grabed his shoulders and looked him in the eye and said; " This task was appointed to you. If you do not find a way, no one will.".. ah it was funny at the time...

quote:
I'm about 5'10", which although not super tall, is taller than most of my female friends. So several times I've found myself saying when they can't see something, "Shall I describe it to you?" Once my friend started laughing so hard that I laughed too, and I could scarcely finish the quote - "Or would you like me to find you a box?"

I feel your pain, im 5'10'' and my friends are all shorter than me, and they are always saying im tall, but really, its not that tall!, i too have thought about using that line, perhaps now i will.

Well, I've got my non-obsessed friends at least remembering 'Mae govannen', as that's my most common greeting...
I don't tend to quote that many lines, but talking in Elvish half the time seems to make up for that in the odd-look department.

Welcome to the Downs, Ascalótëion! I'm sure you'll like it here..
I've made quite an interesting reputation for myself, I quote both book and movie all the time. I annoy my should-have-been-twin little brother by saying all sorts of things that he's forgotten. I can't remember any now, but I've done 'em all at least once.
Unfortunately for me, I am 5' 0" and well on my way to shrinking. So I am often on Gimli's end of the "discribing" quote.

He he, I find myself quoting the movie a lot! Most often it's in my head but when I do quote outloud most people look at me weird, confused, or don't even notice it's a quote! Grrrrr, There are too few LotR fans living around me... Dang it!
However, there is a quote that I use often whenever potatoes are being made. 'taters, what's taters, precious?' 'Po-Ta-Toes. Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew.' Everyone looks at me crazy like and I just smile, then when they don't get it, I roll my eyes and walk away. Stupid non understanding people.

I love "tricksy" and "we hates thems forever". There is this group of boys in my class, and they are really stupid. They come our (my groups') table and start racking on us. So what do we do but stare at eachother and say Amin n'rangwa edanea. They give us this look and walk away. Good stuff. In my group, I stand in the middle heighth wise. I am considered and Man, the taller ones Elves, and the shotter ones hobbits/drawves. So we each shout out things from our given races. This dreives everyone crazy! Especially one of the hobbits who has the mental image that she's tall!

At my family reunion I was eating potatoes, and my cousin (who looks like Gollum!) said "What's that?" and I responded with "Po-tay-toes..." I should have said "This, my friend, is a pint." Oh well.
A door in my house got stuck, so I yelled "Edro hi ammen!" at it, and it opened!
(this happened four times! I'm serious! )
