This picture was found on a news site...

It seems that Australians are now developing a movie-based theme for their weddings since the LOTR movies came out. The Aragorn/Arwen theme is the most favored, and get this, their little hobbit friends lead the way as the ringbearer and flowergirl.
What do you think about that? Cool, huh?

Hehe thats pretty cool!!!!! I heard that people used to write to JRRT and tell him that they were having their weddings in a LOTR fashion. Thats kinda neat that some people still do that.

That is just....weird.
If a wedding is supposed to be a person's special day with another, why dress up like someone else? Kinda takes away the purpose, don't you think?
But agreed it'd be fun. I love that pic..wouldn't mind running around like an elf myself so...

It does not seem weird to me, but I do wish that they had some other choices other than Aragorn and Arwen. I would love to do one in the style of Eowyn and Faramir.

*thwaps Coral* Freak.
Faramir and Eowyn sounds a bit more reasonable, because the style can be described as medival, not just dressing up as characters from a book. I still stand by that it isn't exactly ideal though.
[ February 09, 2003: Message edited by: Reyna Evergreen ]

I'm all about non-traditional weddings, so themes are cool with me. I was going to do the skydiving thing, but that LOTR thing sounds cool. Especially the Orc wedding! HAHA!
I think we'll probably just do the military formal wedding ceremony. Maybe in the style of Gondor!!! I'll be damned if I have to impersonate Arwen, though.
I bet a lot of Ren Faire people are getting peeved at the LOTR thing, because the LOTR weddings do seem a little Ren Faire-ish.
[ February 09, 2003: Message edited by: Pookabunny ]

When my uncle got married, he had a medieval theme. He dressed up as a knight and his wife was a princess. Him and his best men all wore swords, my grandparents were the King and Queen; they even had medieval music played by my mom and my aunt and my aunt's boyfriend. Everyone got to dress up in really fun costumes, so it doesn't surprise me that there are LOTR weddings.
It sounds really cool though. I've always wanted to have a different wedding, so maybe this is just the thing! I'll just have to make sure my fiance will be into the whole LOTR deal lol. Or I guess I could have a LOTR theme reception...in the woods! Or is that over-the-top? Probably haha.

*lol* nice picture. Though I probably won't go for a themed wedding...if I did I would have to choose Arwen over Eowyn. The gown Arwen wore in Aragorn's "dream" in TTT was gorgeous...put it in white and it'd be a beautiful dress don't you think? *lol* My groom may go for having the sword at his side but I'm not so sure he'd wear anything resembling a tunic and tights *lol*

You think Aragorn would wear tights? MovieAragorn would die before doing that, anyway.

Think of the possibilities, Rivendell themed reception places, elven love rings, though if you read the rest of the article that the photo came from, it talks about having hobbit flower girls and ring bearers (oh, ring bearers ) that I find really weird. But I do think that there will be many people in the future who will have LOTR themed weddings, because it is just something that people will want to do. (though even though it is a good idea, I have another idea for my wedding)

I got married last June in a fairly traditional wedding (not themed, though my dress was pale blue instead of white) and I have to say that I cannot imagine the planning logistics of a themed wedding like one of these, especially if you had attendants to outfit as well. But had I but world enough and time, I wouldn't have minded an Eowyn-and-Faramir style wedding (their ceremony was fairly simple, though, wasn't it?) I don't think it detracts from the wedding itself - I've been to several SCA weddings, and while everyone was costumed (we all have our own costumes, the bride and groom didn't need to outfit anybody except themselves) it was a big part of their lives and as expressive of them as a regular wedding would have been.

id love to get married TO Aragorn, but thats not gonna happen. so id love to ge married in the dress that Galdrial wears in FotR, and my groom would wear clothes int he style of Elrond (especially what he wears in Rivendell in FotR).
my bridesmaids would have to be dressed as hobbits with the feet and ears!
my maid of honour would have to be dressed as an elf with the ears and long blonde hair. it would be a fairytale wedding.
Cool, insnane, obsessive, it's a lot of things. I'm sorry, but that's just sad.
