I was wondering if anyone had read, or played the soundtract for FoTR, my orchestra is suposto have the sheet music on Tuesday but i wanted to know if there is any actuial part for Percussion? i never heard any in the movie but then i didnt pay much attention

What kind of percussion?<BR>There is a bit in Moria, and at The breaking of the Fellowship, there are some great drums.

Yaayy. There's another percosinist in the world Yah, There is some drums in Moria and Amon Hen. I know the orc/uruk-hi theme has timpani and/or bass drum in it. Nothing for snare though

Your orchestra is getting sheet music? So is mine! My orchestra teacher is a LOTR fan and she tried to arrange her own version of the music, but then decided to order it after I showed her a sample of the website to do so.<P>I'm almost positive there's percussion in the soundtrack (usually all large orchestras have percussion), though I don't know if it's available on sheet music.

Of course there is! I'm a percussionist as well. I haven't played it officially, but I've learned some of the soundtrack. Parts of Isengard have lots of percussion, and most of the battle scenes do. Everything else might have the vibes or glockenspiel (can't spell) but that's about it. Plenty of percussion, or else the soundtrack would sound bad.<P>Oh yes, and when Gandalf is riding to Isengard, there's timpani that stopped my heart but timpani is the best instrument on the planet, in my opinion.<p>[ February 15, 2003: Message edited by: Calliope and Linus S. *Cheers for all percussionists* You guys are so lucky. I've been begging for LotR music for my band and they won't let us play it! It's so rude. Of course there's percussion. It wouldn't be LotR without it! (Apologies for my atrocious spelling)

Wow, I'm a percussionist too! It's amazing how many of us are here on this forum. Give it up for us haha. Anyways, yes, I noticed there were some awesome drum parts in the soundtrack, so don't worry too much, I'm sure you'll have some fun stuff to do!

To clarify if there was any confusion: I'm not a percussionist, I just think they're awesome. I myself am a lowly trombonist (but trombones rule too!).

That's not so bad, trombones are cool. I used to play the clarinet. I was listening to LOTR soundtrack and there is A LOT of druming at Isenguard and Amon Hen.

I do not play an insturment, but my sister plays the piccilo, and the flute, and her band is going to play the music. she is so excited right now, but you can only reconize one part of the music being from LOTR, I guess you really have to hear it all together.

Wow, i had no idea there were so many percussionists on this site, thank for the info too, cause i dont have the soundtrack myself, hey, i got an idea, since there are so many of us percussionists here, why dont we just go overthrow all the pretty little moderators Muahahaha <BR>ok watch, that will get me kicked off the board<BR>I hope the music is good cause i play like Everythign in my band<BR>im not like jsut on the bass drum, or just on timpani, i do Timpani, Aux percussion (cowbells temple blocks Cymbols (splash, china, gong)i play the mallets and i play the all time favirote the snare<P>and the funny thing is, im playing on my practice pad as im typing this<P>oh one last thing, to you percussionists out there, how many of you play match grip and how many play traditional grip?

I have not seen the music, but there are at least tympanys. You can hear them.

The bridge of Khazad-dum has <I>loads</I> of great percussion. You can hear timpanis, bass drums, gongs, cymbals, I think there's even a snare part here or there. Great stuff; it's my favorite track off of FotR. Also, the Storming of Isengard(?) has some good percussion. I'm not a percussionist myself, I'm a violinist; but being in Honor Orchestra I know for a fact that good percussion (and good bass) is absolutely essential to an orchestra.<P>We're getting sheet music for LotR thanks to my teacher (Brinniel and I are in the same orchestra). She did try to arrange some herself, but she tested it on the chamber orchestra and it turned out that In Dreams is the most boring song that anyone could ever play. I suggested she try to get the score from Concerning Hobbits, so I'm hoping she got that... it's probably the most exciting piece that any regular Junior High orchestra could play. I would have liked to do the Bridge of Khazad-dum, but it's pretty advanced for violins and requires a full symphony.

Well I'm no percusionist, but I'm a saxaphone player. Hehe! Anyways, my band teacher was going to order the LotR music but said that it wasn't that great because it was band. But I don't know, he might have been lying . Anyways, yep there are definatly percussion in the music.
