I know there's a thread about what you would do if you met an actor, but has anyone actually met an actor, got an autograph, or just spotted one anywhere?
The other day i was in a shop queue, and i could have sworn i was behind David Wenham. Either that or an extremely similar looking guy. Had the EXACT same nose and hair colour.

I don't know if this counts, but I went to see Sir Ian McKellan's one-man show on Shakespeare. (He does a darling Juliet!) During the show he asked for audience members to come up and die on stage while he recited the roll of the slain from Henry V. He shook each of us by the hand and just seemed like a very friendly normal person -- not in any way full of himself. From reading some fan blogs where they spoke to him at receptions and junkets he seems like a really wonderful person. I thought it was cute that when he and Elijah Wood went to get their "nine" tattoos they held each others' hands because it was painful.
Has anyone here met Sir Ian McKellan?
-Lily
[ March 23, 2003: Message edited by: Lily Bracegirdle ]

quote:
Has anyone here met Sir Ian McKellan?

Unfortunately not, but I'd really like to. Living in a small (read as: hick) town, we don't get (m)any actors around. The only person I know that lives here that's met an actor passed on a couple years ago. She met Pierce Brosnan in a Utah airport (said he was a rather nice person, too).

ooooh, you are so lucky, Lily! I would love to meet Sir Ian McKellan. I saw Viggo Mortensen though. You all have probably all read my other posts with me bragging about it though. My friend got his autograph! I touched it, hehe. He was awesome.
Meela - If I had seen anybody who looked remotely like David Wenham, I'd be screaming
Rynoah - I also live in a hick village in the middle of nowhere, but Viggo M. happened to graduate from college in a town 10 miles away from me, and he came back. Gives all the hicks a thrill.
I would love to meet Karl Urban, Eomer. I don't know why, I just seem to be fascinated with him. hehe
[ March 23, 2003: Message edited by: Goldberry ]

I saw this guy who looked like an older version of Billy Boyd!! And then I saw another guy who looked like Dominic Monagham with a major acne problem!!! It was really freaky...
I have copies of a signed photo of the LOTR cast and PJ. Does that count?
Goldberry~ You saw Viggo?!?!?!?! DIE!!! *takes a deep breath* "I am calm and collected.."
[ March 23, 2003: Message edited by: Eressië Ailin ]

As I mentioned in another thread, a few days ago my wife and kids got to meet Billy Boyd when he was appearing at a local university. She knew the secretary of the guy who organized it and so was able to swing a private meeting with him for herself and my two sons. They had a lot a fun and he signed a few things for us.
H.C.

I actually got to meet Sir Ian McKellan, he was a real gentleman. I met him when he came to the Seattle Aids Walk. He did a little speech about Aids and how important the topic was to him, and said the "You shall not pass" line from the movie (which was one of the greatest moments of my life) and then he jumped down and spent about a half an hour talking to fans and signing anything. Additionally during the walk, he talked to people and was so nice. It was so cool, I also got his autograph, it is on a waterbottle (I stupidly brought nothing else he could sign, but I did bring a sharpie, and he signed this free waterbottle from Swedish Medical Center) it is in my bedroom, next to my FOTR poster. It is so darn cool. I wrote a report about it on theOneRing.net, I met him on September 22, 2002 (actually it was Bilbo and Frodo's birthday) I sadly did not get a photo with him though, but it is a moment I will remember for the rest of my life.

I have not met any LOTR actor, but Sean Astin has come to my town before for political reasons (also, his mom lives in my state).
I've also heard that Viggo has a place in Sun Valley, Idaho, a town I visit annually. It's actually quite possible I could see him there one day, as I have seen big movie stars in Sun Valley before. But I doubt I'd ever get an autograph from him, as Sun Valley is a small little place and celebrities are treated as regular people there.

I've had REALLY weird dreams too! Once I dreamt that the entire cast of LOTR was hanging out on my front yard and then Orlando Bloom asked me if I would show him my house and I did and he said it was cool and then I woke up. WEIRD!!
EDIT: Its gonna be SO packed at the premiere though! I'll try and get as many autographs as possible but I might not get any
[ March 25, 2003: Message edited by: Beruthiel ]

I've never had the privledge of meeting an actor from LOTR...
but, Elijah Wood attended my sister's band's concert (possible twice, definitely once) and he talked a lot to their lead singer.
I also know someone who met Sir Ian and got his autograph...
Oh yeah, and then there's my one friend who has pretty much met every single one of the actors and showed me pictures ( jealous )!
As for actors I have met: Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Alan Thicke (whoopty-doo), & I've also met Julian Casablancas of The Strokes (as well as Jack White... but I met him a long time ago). I have also met a lot of actors who are famous in my own little universe, so I thought it was cool.

Strangely, I kept trying to keep Boromir from trying to take the Ring, so I had to keep an eye on him at all times. But, I looked away for some reason and he was gone, so I was panicking. I found him again, though, and he hadn't tried anything. I think I wrote it down somewhere.... yup, I did. Here ya go. Believe me, I've had much weirder dreams. I don't think I'll post them here just now, though, because ther're...well...really strange
I haven't met any actors myself, but my classmates friends uncle is Richard Gere...that's cool. Not in LotR though. And by the way: kill Miramax!

I can connect myself through people I know to the cast. Does that count? Because my friend (even though he's probably about 3 times my age, he's still a friend) was in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" with Nathan Lane, who was in "Mouse Hunt". Christopher Walken had a small role in that movie, and he was in "The Prophesy". Viggo Mortensen was in "The Prophesy". So...I practically met Viggo. I met Ernie Sabella in any event (go Pumbaa).

GaladrieloftheOlden

Rynoah, the Overly-Happy
03-25-2003, 09:45 PM
Well... I could be related to Patrick Stewart and/or Martha Stewart as we share the same name. Patrick Stewart was in X-Men with Famke Jensen, who was in Goldeneye with Sean Bean who, in turn, portrayed Boromir in FotR. How's that for connection? Viggo Mortensen is supposedly my online-friend's great-uncle or some such relation, but I doubt he knows about her family.
[ March 25, 2003: Message edited by: Rynoah, the Overly-Happy ]

K, i didnt put this dream in my last post because i thought it was too weird, but...eh.
My family was trying to set up a tent outside this weird building in the middle of this really muddy street, so me and Mama decided to go in and look at the building and when we got in there was this hella long line. There was a little sign sayin that Elijah Wood was givin out autographs, and i was like 'YES!' Anyway i lined up, then for some reason i went to check my hotmail and when i got back everyone was gone. I went to see if i could get into his room but i couldnt and it turned out that viggo mortensen, billy boyd, orlando bloom and dom monaghan were staying in this building too, in this way:
B E
V D
O
Anyhoo, i went to viggos room and he was there(i know this sound weird but i swear i am not making it up) dressed up as a clown teaching a math class...dont ask...but he wouldnt sign an autograph either. , then I saw Orlando and stole some paper and a pen from someone in viggos class and asked if Orli would sign it, and he said(in his incredibley sexy brit voice) 'Ive got a better Idea!' So he goes into his room and comes out with a poster with the pic of the four hobbits on Amon Hen(which i thought was odd because he wasnt in it) and on the side it said, 'Elijah wood is Frodo, Sean Astin is Samwise, etc.' And next to 'Orlando Bloom is Legolas he signed his name, then he took it to Dom, Billy and Viggo and they all signed it! But i didnt get the autograph off Elijah, whose i orignally lined up to get.
And that, is the BEST DAMN DREAM OF MY LIFE!
Yeah, and seriously I did not make that up! Hard to believe i know but...yeah...BEAT THAT ON THE WEIRDNESS SCALE!
Bye!
[ March 26, 2003: Message edited by: Arwen_Evenstar ]

People, this forum is for discussing the LotR movies, not the scripts of your own dreams or the possibilities of connection to actors. For that, please go to the Mayhem forum. Unless someone posts about the original topic soon, this thread will be closed.

I'm just wondering because my sister is in Cali right now on an Honor Society trip, and they went to go see the Queen Mary cruise ship. Well, she said that they passed by a dome-shaped building that they were filming Pirates of the Carribean in. I was just wondering if Orli would have happened to be there. She said a lot of people were going in and out of the building so they might have been filming. Was that a while back, or just recent as to they would still be filming this week?
Other than my sister passing by a building, I have never met any actors...especially not LOTR. I would die to meet one of the Hobbits though...well...actually any of them. You are all so lucky. No one ever comes to NC.

My uncle (well actually my moms’ cousin) is a dress designer, but not just a small one but a big one! He made one of Princess Diana’s dresses, One of the wedding dresses from the movie Run Away Bride, Witney Huston’s wedding dress, Most of the clothes for the movie Body Guard by Witney Huston, he makes dresses for the queen of some country and lots more! His name is Mark Bower and he lives in New York City. I went there a while ago to his studio. I stayed with him for about a week and he was really rich so it was nice . He took me to his studio often. I suppose he doesn’t rave about meeting famous people because he has met so many already it is not a big thing. So everyone knows Liv Tyler is a model?...I am sure all you of do you are all cleaver people .. ! So he had to measure her and make sure the dress looked good and that there were no faults. So I shook Liv Tyler’s hand, I helped her up onto a chair (so he could measure her), I spoke to her and she spoke to me in some elvish (of what she knew) and then she had to go ! I was SO sad!

I just got back from a charity showing of TTT with Sean Astin! It was in Portland Oregon (I drove 2 hours to get there). Sadly I did not get very close to him and I was not able to get an autograph (or photos , because it was in a movie theater and cameras are banned from in there) but I still had a really good time. He answered about an hour and a half of questions, and we also got to see his family (his daughters are so cute, and he calls them "his girls" ) That was the reason he could not do the whole "meet and greet" thing because he wanted to spend time with his family, which was fine with me.

Well Sean Bean lives in my city (no not Gondor, Sheffield you fools of forum members!) and he is regularly spotted. He has a season ticket at Brammel Lane (Sheffield United's home ground- thats soccer to you Americans or football to the rest of the globe!). My mates sit just behind him. He also has a 100% Blade tatoo too along with his elvish one. Cool huh!

The other night we had over 50mm of water on the ground and walking to school was really hard.
The wellington markets are indoors for a reason but you can get lots of stuff there (i got the lost road for $5 there and sometimes the actors hang around the food market there, a friend of mine had a 'run-in' with John Rhys-Davies a the market).
Sorry for rambling but as you can tell i love my city!

I've met Sean Astin, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens at a booksigning and discussion they had when they were in LA last year.
Viggo was at a booksigning here the other month but I went to my trig class instead, since it was test prep day.
Andy Serkis had a recent booksigning in the area, too, but I didn't go.
I heard that Viggo goes to Venice Beach sometimes; I was just there yesterday but didn't see anybody who looked like him. ;-)

Viggo Mortensen was in Iceland last week and a friend of a friend works at a restaraunt that he went to, and he asked her where the bathroom was!!! It was soo funny though when my teacher announced this piece of news to us, a girl in front of me said "who?" and this other girls goes "You know Aragorn." hahahahhahhahah that was so funny (to me anyway), okay bye then.

Must be nice living somewhere with a possibility of someone comeing! Nearest weve had was the Archbishop of Canterbury, and he was kinda undercover. Noone would want to come to Saudi with all this war business, truth be told, noone would want to com normally. We have to sneak pork across the causeway from Bahrain, labelled Veal, For goodness Sake!!!!

Argh!!!! No more talk of the island paradise I call New Zealand - j/k
I had the most amazing trip there in January. For anyone one who is going I would recommend buying the Lord of the Rings Guidebook, were you can find out what was filmed where.
I went to Hobbiton, and took the tour (expensive but well worth it! How much would you pay to walk in the Shire!!!)
I used the book the most when I went to "Windy" Wellington. I started from the Te Papa Museum, where I spent 4 hours alone in the LOTR exhibit. From there I walked up to Dynocks bookstore where I picked up an autographed copy of a Making of the Lord of the Rings book (by PJ and Richard Taylor among others). Then I took a cab up to the top of Mt. Victoria and after a very steep decent, was able to take this picture...

I could barely hold the camera, in hearing Frodo screaming "Get off the road!" in my mind.
I have some other pretty cool pictures of Hobbiton and around Wellington. I never made it to the South Island, so I am saving it for next time.
One problem, I am almost afraid to return to New Zealand, because I am quite sure the next time I go, I will stay for good.
I am completely jealous of those of you who are going to the ROTK premier. I went to the Embassy Theatre and it is incredible!!!
Oh and edited to say, just to keep this post on topic...I met Billy!!!!
[ April 14, 2003: Message edited by: Faramir Fan ]
[ April 14, 2003: Message edited by: Faramir Fan ]

Yup he has to be one of the most engaging people I have ever met...He had a cold and was exhausted from a rigourous travel schedule but he was very kind to spend 20 minutes talking to my kids about the movies and how they did what. He explained quite a bit on how they managed to do the Treebeard scened and let me tell you, when he described 10 hours on a bicycle seat as being "uncomfortable" I think it was a serious understatement.
My youngest was shocked that Billy sounded exactly like Pippin - and told him so...Which I think amused him a little.
I didn't notice his sense of humour when he was with my boys, it was more of an interaction and Q & A session. But later at the presentation at the university, Billy was a riot - oh the stories he told of nailing camera men with rocks, breaking noses and hitting them in other places as he described "where a man never wants to be hit." He captivated that room, including my Dad who came with me and wasn't a LOTR fan.
He did do a fun joke when he stood with my boys for a picture. Just as I was about to take it, he asked them if they had had their second breakfast's yet....

Mondieu! dunadan_aragorn you met Elijah!!!
Was he as nice and momma's-boyish as the interviewers say? I'd love to go to new york or something and find him hanging out at the Library(a cafe) or something.
Why are actors lives so fasinating???

That's awesome, Faramir Fan. Sounds like a blast.
I think actors are so fascinating because so many people "know" them, yet they don't, so they actually want to get to know them personally. Kinda like a "there but out of reach" concept. Or maybe I'm just too tired to think now (I just spent an hour jogging, mmkay?)

I know an actor- my dad! LOL, he was actually an extra in the movie Amistad that came out a few years ago. In the last court scene with Anthony Hopkins, he's ALLLL the way to the right in the top row. He's kinda bald too You probably need the widescreen version on DVD to see him though. He got to meet Steven Spielburg, Anthony Hopkins, and Matthew McConaghy (sp?). I think it'd be awesome to meet Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd, because they have such a great sense of humor. I like humor.

one of my dad's fire buddies is Jack McGee. However, his largest claim to fame is being the bad santa in the remake of "Miracle on 34th Street" After that it was being a construction guy on Seinfeld for a few minuets and he has done numerous small parts since the 80's.

Okay, yes this is from the ancient first page, but umm Rynoah, you think you're related to PATRICK STEWART? THE PATRICK STEWART WHO PLAYES PICARD ON STTNG?? YOOOOUUU AAAAARRRRREEEE SSOO LUUUCCCKKY!!!
Yes, getting carried away. But as most of you know, I have a very big obsession with Star Trek: TNG.
Back on topic: I've never met an actor. As GaladrieloftheO said, some actor may come to Boston as it is a well-known place(well, by me anyway-lol), and then I'll be right there, right on the spot! I really wanna meet all the actors from LOTR. But since Massachussets is a more quiet state than some, there's a VERY limited chance of that.

Back to the topic........kinda
At my college as a fundraiser we have a work day, which is where we find a place to work for a day to raise money for the school.
Anyway, I rang up WETA and got the shock of my life...The Esteemed Richard Taylor picked up the phone and answered....anyways to boil down a conversation, Mr. Taylor said that they already have one SHC girl working there but to ring back if need be and He'll see what He can do...Is it any wonder I have been walking around in circles for the past hour trying to get rid of my excessive bouncy-ness (and this is the Morgul Queen we're talking about here, the dark, negitive one. *shudder* bouncy-ness does not suit me)
