OneRing has the Return of the King trailer. Be forwarned, it's a 10 meg download but well worth it.
I'll leave the discussion until more people have seen it.
***MAJOR SPOILERS***
http://img-nex.theonering.net/movies/rotk_768.mov
H.C.

Hmm for some reason it does not appear to be compatible with my computer. I've tried to download it from www.theonering.net and from www.comingsoon.net. Any suggestions?

I am more than a LITTLE ticked with TPTB at the moment as they make us WAIT FOREVER AND TEN DAYS for this trailer and when someone finally get it they can't let us enjoy hardly an hour before its gone!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!

[ July 30, 2003: Message edited by: Arathiriel ]

I don't think it is avaliable anymore. On TORn they were asked by New Line to remove it. And I couldn't seem to find it anywhere on Coming Soon either.

Yup, it's gone.
I'm not surprised it was shut down, but man that was fast. Hopefully a number of people where able to download it before New Line swooped in.
Editted to add: Here's a bit of a transcript of the trailer I put together.
***SPOILERS***
Shot of The Ring on the palm of a dirt covered hand (Frodo's?). Cut to Gollum leading Frodo and Sam through woods at night.
Pippin (voice over): Is there any hope, Gandalf, for Frodo and Sam.
Gandalf (voice over): There never was much hope ...
Cut to Pippin looking melancholy. Looks up. Cut to Gandalf looking at Pippin.
Gandalf (continuing): ... Just a fool's hope.
Cut to dirt covered Frodo looking up and struggling to climb. Cut to Merry. He's holding someone's hand (Pippin) who is obviously on a horse.
Merry: We shall see The Shire again.
Cut to a sad and confused looking Pippin who hesitantly nods. Cut to Gandalf riding Shadowfax through dark woods (I suspect Pippin is with him). Flash of the Eye of Sauron and then mustering Orcs. Cut to Faramir.
Faramir: My Lord, Osgiliath is over run.
Cut to men (orcs?) running through the streets of a burning city. Cut to Eowyn looking distant.
Theoden (voice over): I would have you smile again, ...
cut to Theoden.
Theoden (continuing): ... not grieve for those who's time has come.
Cut to a Gondorian soldier holding a wounded comrade. Gandalf is in the background. Cut to Aragorn looking defeated. Cut to Gandalf.
Gandalf: The board is set ...
As Gandalf continues in voice over, scenes change to Gondorian archers taking aim, orcs pulling large war engine, Aragorn in Gondorian armour leading the Host of the West from Minas Tirith. Gandalf a top Shadowfax as he climbs stairs to the battlements of Minas Tirith. Camera tracks over the wall to the army of the Enemy below.
Gandalf (voice over, continuing): ... pieces are moving. We come to it at last - the great battle of our time.
Cut to Gondorian calvary charging. Cut to orcs attacking the gates with a large battering ram. Cut to either a machine of war or a chunk of wall coming down on battlements and doing significant damage. Cut to combat on the streets of burning Minas Tirith. Cut to Nazgul swooping down on the battlements, knocking off a soldier. Cut to Sam and Frodo.
Sam: You don't see it do you?
Cut to Gollum talking to his reflection in a pool.
Gollum: Precious will be ours ...
Cut to catapults launching flaming balls which go over the wall and land in the city.
Cut to a disoriented Frodo.
Sam (voice over - continuing): ... He's leading us into a trap.
Cut to Frodo running through cobweb covered tunnels.
Cut back to Gollum by the pool.
Gollum (continuing): ...once the hobbitses are dead.
He drops a stone into the pool.
Cut to Aragorn and Legolas in caves.
Cut to soldiers charging.
Soldier (voice over - it may be Eomer or Theoden): Ride, now! ...
Cut to Legolas taking aim.
Soldier (voice over continuing): ... Ride for ruin ...
Cut to Aragorn in Gondorian armer charging.
Soldier (voice over continuing): ... and the world ending!
Cut to more soldiers charging and then to a beauty shot of Gandalf rounding a corner on Shadowfax as a Nazgul lands in front of him.
Title: The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
December 2003
H.C.
[ July 30, 2003: Message edited by: HCIsland ]

OMG, that sounds like such a good trailer...and such good dialogue!!! The part with Pippin talking about Frodo and Sam and then Frodo and Sam on their way to Mordor!! Oh, it makes me want to see the movie so bad! The bad thing is though, I'm not aloud to download anything on my comp, so I can't see the trailer. Oh, I hope they have real player trailers soon!!!

Drattit! I downloaded it at work, but my darned computer wouldn't play it. And by the time I get home, I find that it has been removed.
Thanks for the transcript, HC. Some of those scenes sound great. The siege of Minas Tirith and the Battle of the Pelennor sound (I wish I could say look) fantastic. I wonder how much of the Gandalf voice over is simply for the trailer, though.
Interesting too that Jackson has Sam thinking that Gollum leading them into a trap. As I recall, they don't realise this in the Book until they are already caught in it.

Word has it there will be a trailer on the Two Towers DVD. I'm assuming this will be the one. Jackson says the trailer will be in theaters in September.
Now that this file is out there, I suspect it will be popping up on sites and will be screen-capped. I'd keep looking.
H.C.

Well, I've seen it now. I already have complaints. The Pellenor Fields are too desolate, the battle is too bright, and Frodo looks like an absolute idiot with his face covered with mud. My friends, we are in for a brief, brief summation of the final installment. That is all the griping material this trailer has provided me with, so I'll make some compliments. The nazgul are done excellently, as is Gollum and Shelob's Lair, and the Citidel in Minas Tirith. But, with the ridiculous waste of the Pellenor Fields as a background, the city looks ridiculous. It ought to be nighttime when they ram the gates, which are much smaller than they ought to be.
Finished,
Iarwain

quote:
i dont know about any of you guys but i don't know why new line is making such a big deal about it its just a TRAILER its not the movie, really all it will make us do is want to see the movie more. New Line should just let it go now that the trailer is out.

Actually I think the big deal is that New Line Cinema is going to release a longer trailer with the Two Towers extended Edition (I've heard 5-10 min., anyone else?), so if they clamp down on the trailers as much as possible, then people will want to get the Extended version for the monsterous trailer at the end. Oh well. I got the trailer off of filmhobbit (see the link by Lord of Angmar near the top of page 2), but the sound was behind, & frankly, I think the over-all quality of the trailers has declined over the course of the 3 movies. I always get goose bumps when I re-watch the FotR one, 'cause it has awesome music & awesome 'action shots', I liked the Two Towers one, & I was unimpressed with the Return of the King. I'm sure a better trailer will be out sooner or later, but the only good parts of this trailer (to me) were these:
#1-Pippin: "Is there any hope, Gandalf? For Frodo & Sam?"
Gandalf: "There never was much hope...just a fool's hope."-This sounds like another great 'conversation scene', following in the footsteps of Gandalf & Frodo in Moria, Borimir & Aragorn in Lothlorien, & Theoden's speech before riding out at Helm's Deep.
#2-The visual of the Orcish army coming up to Minas Tirith.-It looks freakishly awesome!
#3-The scene where Gandalf on Shadowfax & the Witch King (presumably) on his 'winged steed' meet up. Oh this this will be good! (as long as Gandalf doesn't kill the Witch King, & I doubt even PJ would make THAT happen!)
#4-Gollum talking to his reflection-Ah, Gollum. One of the few bright spots of TTT (seemingly), & sure to be as good or better in RotK!
This post (if read 'cause of it's length), might agonize those that can't get the trailer, & I 'pologize for that, but I couldn't resist putting in my 2 cents (or more than 2 by now)!

quote:
I always get goose bumps when I re-watch the FotR one, 'cause it has awesome music & awesome 'action shots'

Well of course you do, because those were the first ones and they were so new and mysterious. Additionally they still had the "fog effect" over the New Line logo that was the coolest (in my opinion), I wish they would bring that back for the ROTK ones
I think that this particular trailer was a rough cut that "accidently" made it out of the studios hands, or a teaser that they decided not to release. I don't think that it is part of the trailer that is coming out with the theatrical dvd, just because it seems rather complete. It is missing some things for a theater one (studio logo, cast info, etc.), and it also has a rather abrupt ending.
Don't worry though, I think we will get a rather spectacular trailer for ROTK soon

Otherwise it's not that bad.
Meela: Do you have QuickTime, or is it that none of the links are working? Would the theatrical be available yet? hmm...
[ August 05, 2003: Message edited by: arianrod ]

I don't know if I support this theory, but it has been suggested to me that New LIne actually released the teaser on purpose just to make people like us who would actually find it and watch it want to see RotK even more. What do you think of that?

Sounds like something they would do in the film industry. Clever advertising tricks.

It would be a 'good idea' for New Line, but it 'could' (technicaly) backfire I reduce desire for the trailer at the end of EE, therefore reducing desire for the EE. It won't stop me, but it could stop others. & that's a risk that the film industry seems to be rather slow to take...

I don't think new line did this on purpose because they are asking any site they find it on to remove it. It was probably just a slip in the LOTR advertising department and besides its not that big of a deal there will probably be not too many people who see it, i mean the only way you could find it is if your really interested in LOTR.

Peonydeepdelver- I paused the trailer at the scene you mentioned, and it does look like on of the "solders" is wearing Rohirrim armor. Greater evidence that they are, indeed Merry and Pippin is thus- if you look closely, the Gondorian "solder" has a Lorien brooch fastining his cloak. If that isn't proof I don't know what is.

Namarie

I just stumbled across this thread (God knows how I missed it) and I'm downloading the Quicktime trailer right now. It's certainly re-kindling my longing for RotK! I'll let you know my POV when I've got it.

It is rather hard to miss, being rather popular as you can probably imagine. If anyone can get a version that doesn't have the sound behind, let me know. Otherwise I'll have to accept my doom...

It's downloading now! It's about a third done. It's really funny, though, because the sound and the picture don't match up, so it looks like a foreign film that's been dubbed over.
EDIT: Aaah! It's about halfway through, I press play to see it so far and... my computer crashes!!!
[ August 09, 2003: Message edited by: Galadrie1 ]

Owwie. My condolances.
As of now, the link at flim hobbit is still up for downloading, but the sound is off so it kinda looks like the guy who dubed Godzilla did the trailer. Even so,
IT....WAS...SOO...AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dunno how many times I've watched it already, and I can't wai till it's out in theaters "offically".
ROTK looks like it will be every bit as wonderful as FOTR and TTT, maybe more. Leastways, it looks that way.

So now I know that I can only watch it once, then I have to load it again and repeat the process (and it takes a long time, too....) .
And mine also looks like a dubbed movie. I guess they're all like that. Amusing, but annoying.

For those of you who can't watch it...
Here is a cap of Pippen holding Merry.

the leaves of Lorien are quite clear, although with the helmets, you really can't tell it's them. At least I couldn't until someone pointed out the leaves to me.

Oh, I did not realise these were the two hobbits, I thought they were random soldiers...
But indeed, you can see the leaves.

I finally downloaded this one. WOW! This is sure to be the biggest, most emotional film of the three.
I don't remember Gandalf and Pippin facing a Nazgul in the books, but that gave me goosebumps nonetheless
I'm gonna cry a river this time though

But now that you point it out, the leaves are pretty clear. Thanks, Faramir Fan!
I got my trailer at The Shadow of the Ring. But, alas! They took it down. Too many people were downloading it and overwhelming the server. Hmmm... I can't wait for TTT on DVD, so we can see the reeeeeally long, (and legal) one.

So is it like on Fotr? A behind the scenes preview in August, and an official trailer in November? Or is it a trailer in August?

Sapphire_Flame
08-14-2003, 12:46 PM
I think it will be like with Fellowship: a behind-the-scenes preview in August (but not without awesome clips from the movie), and then a recap of the theatrical trailer in the Extended Version. I heard that a trailer will start showing in theaters in September; let's hope the information I got was correct!
Abedithon le,
~*~Aranel~*~

I saw a trailer for the TTT dvd in the cinema yesterday! Unexpected... but super and it said the preview would be on the dvd, so no worries there. And the behind-the-scenes footage looks super! I just hope they concentrate on the new characters as well as the old bunch from the Fellowship. It would be terrible if they just included interviews with Aragorn, Gandalf, Frodo, and Arwen or whoever. I hope Eomer gets a voice. And Faramir.
