Alkanoonion -

It is so nice to see you. Please do drop into the Green Dragon Inn if you have the chance.

I feel it’s my duty to wonder about Robin Headstrong, the creator of the largest thread on the Downs. Crazy Captions. Even when I first entered a barrow, he was gone. Does anyone know where this creator of captions went? The thread is now reaching 10000 posts; I think if he comes back he'll be very surprised.

Alkanoonion 02-10-2006 06:33 AM

Thanks Child of the 7th Age

Well I remember my first foray into the world of written roll playing; I hope that you find my grammar much improved ;)

This was my longest wait in the halls of Mandos but Namo has relented and I have been allowed to return.

BTW I enjoyed your last post in “I found the Entwives” I just wish that Teleporno would return and share his analysis with us.

Child of the 7th Age 02-10-2006 07:21 AM

Alkanoonion,

A long wait in the halls of Mandos does not sound good! Glad you got out.

Thanks. I had fun with that post in I Found the Entwives, although in one sense it's a "futile effort". Since Teleporno hasn't shown his nose in either Land of Rohan or Minas Tirith since December 2003, I doubt he will do so. There's the possibility he posts on Tolkien sites like those under a different name today, but my gut says no. He is certainly not on this site. It wouldn't be hard to recognize someone with his particular mindset (the underlying ideas I talked about in the post) if he was here in Books.

Hmm.... I do love a mystery. Perhaps the only way to get an answer is to secure a list of film graduates at "KU" in 1992 (presumably Kansas State or U of Kansas if that is a typo) who then went on to work for U Kansas. There can't be too many of those! Don't know, though, if he'd spill the beans. It's possible he had second thoughts about his interpretations re the Entwives, but decided to keep the posters squirming!

A side note.... Glirdan asked about Perky Ent. She hasn't been on since January 2. At that point, she'd just returned to New Orleans and was without utilities, phone, and iternet. I hope she is doing alright.

Alkanoonion 02-11-2006 02:59 AM

Thanks all
1 member who I have not seen in a long time is Gandalf. He always had good posts that I found to be well written and well thought out.
I hope he is still around ME even if it is just in front of a warm fire with his pipe in hand.

Me too. :( She was the one who started the "Prisoner of Numenor" rpg, and it was a little sad ... and challenging! .... to finish it without her.

Oh, and Elora. Remember her? She could rp! Falowik especially misses having someone write Uien .... :(

Lhunardawen 02-13-2006 02:15 AM

And she still has to reclaim the "the Thunder Mistress" part of her name from Gil-galad... :(

Rune Son of Bjarne 02-13-2006 07:04 AM

A Question: Does it often happen that members who has not posted, check in now and again.

The reason I ask is that last night when I checked who was online, I thought we had gotten a new member. It turned out it was a member who had not made a post since 2004 GaladrieloftheOlden, this struck me as kind of odd, but what do I know.

Hey it seems I have reached a 1000 post's. This must be celebrated.

Glirdan 02-13-2006 05:23 PM

Rune, Galadriel actually checks in often. Trust me. I have an ambition to beat her in posts under the G's. So far, she's winning.

Edit- I just looked and I just realised that I have actually passed her!! YAY!!

Just for information, she did contact me shortly after that WW gameand she was having a hectic time in real life - clearly things may not have got better but I think she has checked in since..

littlemanpoet 03-07-2006 03:37 PM

What has happened to Wilwarin? I miss her! :(

Glirdan 03-07-2006 03:57 PM

Ahh, the dear old butterfly is out on leave for the time being. She's gotten real busy with RL stuff. She will be back (hopefully) in the summer.

I'm touched that someone missed me. :) But Glirdan is right, I have school and work and just haven't gotten much time to come on. I'm hoping that I'll be able to come on more once summer comes along. Maybe even this week(since its the march brake).

I miss you all to!

Diamond18 03-14-2006 12:56 AM

I just noticed that today is burra's 22nd birthday. Now there is someone I haven't seen in an age and a day.

Ith- I'm hoping that you didn't just come on the BD for a few days and then leave again.
Well, hehe... I suppose I did. Life is distracting. I did want to come back and say hi to old friends and perhaps meet some new people (since I'm sure there are many).

A lot of things have changed. I'm graduating and going to Boise State University next year, and planning on a master's degree in American Sign Language following a baccalaureate in some subject that only God knows for the time being. I'm also getting married on (tentatively) June 2, 2007. I know we're young, but we are very very happy together. I've discovered a love and somewhat of an affinity for jazz singing, and I hope to pursue that through college at least.

I still remember all the great people here at the Downs, and I regret becoming too busy to spend time here in the first place, even though such obstacles will probably continue. How is everyone? I see the site has changed quite a bit, and it looks nice.

I look forward to seeing you all again.
Namaarië,
Ithaeliel

YAY FOR YOUNG MARRIAGES!!!

(I have to say that...just look at my birthday in my profile, and Hubby and I have been married almost 9 months now.)

I'm one of those new people've been popping out of the woodwork like bored termites. Nice to meet you!

Eonwe 04-28-2006 07:03 AM

I wish a certain Ent would rampage the Downs in Balrog form more frequently...

Glirdan 04-28-2006 02:22 PM

I know what you mean Eonwe....I miss that firey Ent...

Child of the 7th Age 05-08-2006 12:27 AM

Ithaeliel,

We do miss you in the RPG forums. Good luck on everything, including the planned for wedding (if you're still here to read this.....)

I miss you all, too! I am hoping to stick around and jump into an RPG whenever a new one becomes available... I need to start refreshing on plotting skills... good to see you, Child!

je revien!

Hello, everybody. I used to frequent this site like I was being paid to, but alas, it has been 4 long years since I've posted regularly. I'm afraid to say that I haven't kept up; I'd probably have to re-read both the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion in order to properly participate in discussions here again. I just wanted to say hello to all the members who've been around since 2002 or earlier (I recognize many of you!) as well as "Hi! I'm Jessica! Nice to meet you!" to the ones I haven't met. It has been too long, and I've missed you all, this site, being on fire for Tolkien, everything! I hope everyone's been well, and I'll continue to lurk obscurely until I perhaps find a post that my rusty brain can handle :)

Estelyn Telcontar 05-22-2006 12:17 PM

Welcome back, Jessica! I saw your name on the forum today and recognized the familiar nick from the good ol' days. Hope you'll enjoy your comeback!

mormegil 05-22-2006 12:20 PM

I really miss Holbytlass I haven't seen or heard from her in at least a month. So if you're out there Holby we miss you very much and hope all is well.

Mithalwen 05-22-2006 12:33 PM

I miss her too but I know she is in the throes of moving house so that may have affected her internet connection. And the woman has four children!!! It is amazing she manages anything for herself at all..

Glirdan 05-22-2006 08:11 PM

So I'm not completely nuts. I thought we were missing our dearly beloved Birthday wisher. No wonder I've missed a ton of birthdays!!

Why, you're practically all grown up now I bet! :D

Does anybody know what happened to Finwe? And did Perky Ent leave or get banned? It was a surprise not to see his name on the Member's List... I remember him from the Quiz Room.

Looking back over this thread makes me feel very old-- I joined the 'Downs right after it (the thread) started way back in 2002, under another name. And yet there are members listed here who were gone before I ever set mouse here.

Perky has had RL problems and he hasn't had a working internet connection...

Bêthberry 06-08-2006 09:27 AM

The Perky Ent hasn't been banned and is still on the member list. You just have to look under "T" rather than "P". ;)

And yet they call me smart...

Thanks.

Thinlómien 08-14-2006 03:01 AM

Tar-Ancalime hasn't been here for months... I wonder what's happened to her.

Also, some really active members have been alarmingly silent these days (take Ang for an example), but I guess it's the summer holiday that should be blamed here...

Mithalwen 08-14-2006 06:31 AM

Ang will be back in September. He has been travelling a lot....

Fordim Hedgethistle 08-14-2006 08:44 AM

I still miss Kransha. And whatever has happened to Amanaduial the Archer??

Valier 08-14-2006 11:10 AM

Know who I really miss.......Garin. Where did he go I wonder? Will he be back?

Garin had some major things in life come up. I'm not sure if he will be coming back anytime soon but if I speak to him again, which may be soon I'll let him know he is missed.

Valier 08-14-2006 11:15 AM

Yes Morm please do!! I miss his so called "brash demeanor", it brightened my Days and wish him well for me. :D

Holbytlass 08-14-2006 04:43 PM

*sigh* I miss Shelob. I know she's getting ready for college, but still....
