Not sure exactly where to put this, but here seems as good a place as any...
The Future of Tolkien thread is going on, and while reading, I came across this post. Now, this sparked an idea in my mind. Call it a game or project or whatever, but I thought it might be interesting to set out different 'Ages' or 'Stages' of different Tolkien related things. (We can throw in a couple of joke ones if you wish, like the Ages of the Werewolf games, or the Mount Zoom joke or Gandalf’s uncloaking escapades). So, pick anything Tolkien and make a time line or list of the four* ages or stages in its growth. Anything can do: A character's life, events, jokes, whatever you like. Here is one of mine, to get the ball rolling... Ages of Melkor: First Age: (Ainulindule - Beginning of days) His beginnings were promising, being a good Ainur with the potential to be a great leader. His falling due to pride lead him to be one of the greatest enemies that Middle Earth has seen. In this first Age, he fell and began his conquest of Middle Earth, breaking and destroying everything the Valar worked at. Second Age: (Beginning of days - 1 Age of ME) After throwing down the lamps of the Valar he turned the entire world to darkness (I like to think he did a little dance at this point). When the coming of the Elves looked soon, the Valar made war upon him and he was chained and thrown into a deep dungeon for three ages... Third Age: (First half of the First Age of ME) He was unchained and set loose in the world once again. At first he seemed harmless enough and was 'helpful'. Yet his old ways lead him to deceive the Noldor to thoughts of war. He eventually destroyed the Two trees of Valinor and stole the Silmarills. From that point on, the Noldor made never-ending war upon him. Fourth Age (Second half of the First Age of ME) A time that saw many tales unfold in the wars of the Jewels, Beren and Luthien stole a single Silmarill and Turin killed the father of Dragons. Yet he was eventually overcome when the Valar sent their armies in the war of Wrath and cast into the Void. *I want to keep it as four to tie in with the Ages of Middle Earth. (Although some could have a possible fifth if you like)
