What I would like to know about it is if they were identical or not? Does anyone know?

actually 3 generations
and now that I think about it there were 3 generations. The first being Elwing's brothers Elurin and Elured, so moving Elrond and Elros down to 2, and Elladan and Elrohir to 3.

I have always assumed so..... certainly I think it says that Elladan and Elrohir were alike ...... and twins always seem identical in literature.....

I somehow don't see them as identical, although they probably were. Since they had to have been very much different in their attitudes towards life, perhaps their very demeanors set them apart. Let's just say you'd probably never mix them up!

I too always have assumed twins as identical ,but Elrond and Elros may have been an exception I suupose.
Has Tolkein ever written about them being indentical??

I also wonder if elf twins could be females for I have never seen any mention of twin females in what I have read. Anyone know? Another thing, my friend who is a twin told me that when you are a girl twin you have an 80% chance of having twins. With elves it seems to come from the male side, for Elrond was a twin and he had twins.
